See the Cast of ‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial’ Then and Now

Back in 1982, Steven Spielberg introduced audiences to Elliott, a lonely boy who befriends an alien called E.T., and with the help of his siblings, tries to help their new friend return to his home planet while keeping him hidden from the government. ‘E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial’ was loved the world over, and became an instant classic, cherished by both adults and children alike. 32 years later, we revisit the cast of one of Spielberg’s greatest and see what they’re up to now.

Henry Thomas, Elliott

Then: Henry Thomas played Elliott, a young, lonely boy who finds an alien who’s been abandoned on Earth, and the pair strike up a meaningful friendship as Elliott tries to help E.T. return home.

Now: After ‘E.T.,’ Thomas decided to focus on school, still occasionally acting in films like ‘Cloak and Dagger’ and ‘Valmont.’ In the ’90s, he appeared in films like ‘Legends of the Fall’ and ‘Suicide Kings,’ and in the aughts he appeared in movies like ‘All the Pretty Horses,’ ‘Gangs of New York,’ and ‘Dear John,’ as well as the TV movie adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘Desperation.’ He’s guest-starred on ‘Without a Trace’ and ‘The Mentalist,’ and starred in the short-lived ABC series ‘Betrayal,’ which was canceled earlier this year after one season. Thomas also recently appeared in the film ‘Big Sur’ with Kate Bosworth and Josh Lucas, based on the novel by Jack Kerouac.

Robert MacNaughton, Michael

Universal/Getty Images

Then: Robert MacNaughton played Michael, Elliott’s older brother who plays football and often picks on his younger sibling.

Now: MacNaughton continued to work in the ’80s, appearing in ‘I Am the Cheese,’ as well as a CBS afterschool special, the TV movie ‘A Place to Call Home,’ and an episode of ‘Newhart.’ He also worked in the theatre, originating the role of Buddy Layman in ‘The Diviners,’ and appearing with Kevin Kline in a production of ‘Henry V.’ MacNaughton left acting in 2002 and became a mail handler, but he’ll return this year to appear in the upcoming films ‘Frankenstein vs. The Mummy’ and ‘Laugh Killer Laugh.’

Drew Barrymore, Gertie

Universal/Getty Images

Now: In the ’90s, Barrymore tried to distance herself from her childish roles by appearing in films like ‘Poison Ivy,’ ‘Doppelganger,’ ‘Boys on the Side,’ and ‘Mad Love.’ The late ’90s made her a legit star with parts in ‘Scream,’ ‘Ever After,’ and ‘Never Been Kissed,’ and she also starred with Adam Sandler in the rom-coms ‘The Wedding Singer’ and ’50 First Dates.’ Her other credits include the ‘Charlie’s Angels’ films (which she also produced), ‘Riding in Cars with Boys,’ and ‘Fever Pitch.’ In 2009, she made her directorial debut with ‘Whip It,’ and also gave an acclaimed performance in the HBO film ‘Grey Gardens,’ for which she earned a Golden Globe for Best Actress. In recent years, she’s appeared in the films ‘Going the Distance’ and ‘Big Miracle,’ and you can catch her this month in the new rom-com ‘Blended,’ which reunites her with co-star Adam Sandler.

Dee Wallace, Mary

Universal/Getty Images

Then: Dee Wallace, previously known for roles in ‘The Hills Have Eyes’ and ‘The Howling,’ played Mary, Elliott’s mother who’s been recently separated from her husband and is kind of oblivious to an alien hanging around her house.

Peter Coyote, Keys

Universal/Getty Images

Then: Peter Coyote played “Keys,” a mysterious government agent identified by the keyring he wears, and who’s on a mission to capture E.T. Coyote was a relative newcomer who had previously appeared in the film ‘Die Laughing.’

Now: It wasn’t until the late ’90s that Coyote started landing roles in bigger films like ‘Sphere,’ ‘Patch Adams,’ and ‘Erin Brockovich.’ He’s had recurring roles on ‘Commander in Chief,’ ‘Brothers and Sisters,’ ‘The 4400,’ and ‘Law and Order: LA,’ and appeared in the recent HBO film ‘Hemingway and Gellhorn.’ He also recently appeared on episodes of the new CBS series ‘Intelligence.’ In addition to acting, Coyote often provides narration for National Geographic and NHL specials and documentaries, and has narrated Ken Burns’ PBS miniseries ‘The Dust Bowl,’ as well as a recent episode of ’30 for 30.’

C. Thomas Howell, Tyler

Universal/Getty Images

Then: C. Thomas Howell made his acting debut as Tyler, one of Michael’s friends who helps Elliott and E.T. try to outrun the authorities during the climax of the film.

Erika Eleniak, Pretty Girl

Universal/Getty Images

Then: Erika Eleniak made her acting debut as the young girl Elliott works up the nerve to kiss in his class.

Now: Eleniak didn’t appear in another film for six years, returning to star in ‘The Blob.’ In 1989, she became a Playboy Playmate, and had a recurring role on ‘Charles in Charge’ before landing a leading role on ‘Baywatch’ from 1989 to 1992. She went on to become best known for her roles in ’90s films like ‘Under Siege,’ ‘The Beverly Hillbillies,’ and ‘Bordello of Blood.’ In 2005, Eleniak appeared on the reality TV show ‘The Real Gilligan’s Island,’ and in 2006 she competed on VH1’s ‘Celebrity Fit Club.’ In recent years, she’s starred in B-movies and made-for-TV movies like ‘Dracula 3000’ and ‘Absolute Zero,’ and appeared on an episode of ‘Desperate Housewives.’

What the pretty girl in E.T. looks like today

There are several truly memorable scenes in 1982’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (the movie’s tear-jerking finale was named the most moving cinematic moment of all time in a poll), but there’s one iconic part of Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi classic that almost never happened. Everyone remembers the science class scene in which Elliott (Henry Thomas) sets the frogs free and kisses his pretty blonde classmate (Erika Eleniak) in a cute recreation of John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara’s big smooch from The Quiet Man. It looked completely natural on the big screen, but Eleniak (just 12-years-old at the time) had some major doubts when it came to shooting the scene.

“It was super frightening,” the actress told Fox News years later. “I cried in my little trailer. Steven came in and talked to me and my mom for 10 minutes. He explained what a closed set was and how no one who didn’t have to be there wouldn’t, to make me feel better. And I believe Henry Thomas was in a girl-haters club at the time. He was only 10, so he was unhappy about the kiss too.” Spielberg managed to convince both Thomas and Eleniak (who revealed that the veteran director was like “a fun, big kid” on set) to go through with the kiss, and the rest is film history. But what happened to Eleniak post-E.T.?

She got her first taste of adult acting some six years later when she appeared as monster-bait in the 1988 remake of The Blob, but Eleniak’s real big break came the following year. She was named Playboy’s playmate of the month for July 1989 (the then-19-year-old admitted that she “partied too hard” in her teens during her accompanying interview), and she was also cast in Baywatch. Eleniak starred as Shauni McClain in the first few seasons of the hugely popular lifeguard show, though the set wasn’t quite as glamorous as you’d think.

“When we shot that show … it was January,” she recalled to Fox News. “It was the coldest time of the year. We would use these huge lights to make it look hot and sunny. I remember running in the water on the coldest day of the year. Our lips were so blue that we couldn’t use the footage. It was ridiculous.” The actress revealed that they would make the scantily-clad cast look all sweaty by spraying them with cold water between takes. “Bathing suits in winter with the wind blowing and then you would be sprayed with cold water — that’s the magic of television, right?” Eleniak quit Baywatch in 1992 when she started becoming uncomfortable with the “super risqué” direction it was taking. She was swiftly replaced by Pamela Anderson, who was “perfect for the show.”

After leaving her red bathing suit behind, Eleniak set about making a name for herself in feature films. She landed a part in Steven Seagal vehicle Under Siege, which turned out to be an “incredible learning experience” for her, despite the male-dominated set. “I learned a lot on that shoot watching Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey work,” she told Fox News. “It was a hard shoot, I have to say. Long hours.” Eleniak went on to work steadily for the remainder of the ’90s, but keeping her famous frame in top shape reportedly took a real toll on her health. “At one point she was severely underweight and was hospitalised because of laxative abuse,” the Daily Mail claims. By the mid-2000s, however, her weight issues were totally reversed.

In January 2006, the star gave birth to her daughter, Indyanna. “I milked my pregnancy for everything it was worth,” the former model told People. “I did yoga, I ate everything that was good for … and then I went to McDonald’s.” Later that year she participated in the fourth season of VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club, losing an impressive 30 pounds in the process. With the extra weight gone she was able to pursue the types of roles she’d built a career on, but her child has always come first. “I’m a single mom of a 10-year-old, and that’s my heart,” she said during a convention appearance in 2016. “That’s your first world. That’s everything.”

Getty Images

She might be putting her daughter first, but Eleniak still pops up in film and TV on occasion. As of this writing, the actress remains a big fan of the action genre, but, in her own words, at her age it’s difficult to keep up with the pace, especially with all the injuries she’s suffered over the years. “I have so much damage in this body,” she said. “I have nerve damage in my wrists from a stunt going terribly wrong. … I’ve had a severed tendon in my hand; I have nerve damage in my knees; my ankle is messed up.” Understandably, she now prefers character driven roles over physically demanding ones. In 2018, Eleniak was cast in the indie thriller To Avenge, and she’s also reportedly signed on to play a reincarnated version of Hollywood icon, Marilyn Monroe.

There’s nothing more special to a mother than her children. I think a big part of that is because mothers see so much of themselves in their kids.

My mother and I always get mistaken for being sisters, even though we have a 20-year age difference. One time we swapped faces on a mobile app and the image didn’t even change! Not all mother-daughters are like this, but there are many cases where you know a daughter is going to look just like their mother when they grow up. Sometimes they already do…

42-year-old actress Drew Barrymore gave birth to two girls, Olive and Frankie Barrymore Kopelman, in 2012 and 2014 respectively, but she hasn’t flaunted her children on social media like other famous celebrities.

We’ve known Drew since the early ’80s, where she starred in hit movies like E.T the Extra-Terrestrial, Firestarter, and Irreconcilable Differences. She was only six years old when she started acting, so we’re well aware of how the Santa Clarita Diet star looked in her younger years.

We’ve noticed Drew post photos of young girls on her Instagram page before, but we thought they were photos of her when she was a kid! Turns out those are some rare photos of her daughters, and we’re completely surprised by how similar Drew’s oldest daughter, Olive, looks to the famous actress!

For Thanksgiving and for Mother’s Day last year, Drew shared a heartfelt post about her love for her two daughters.

“The love of my life. Olive. Sunday. Thanksgiving weekend. I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday. This is a very special time. And may it bring out the best in all of us. And all the spirit of family and loved one,” she wrote in one post.

If that wasn’t Drew Barrymore kissing Olive, I would have thought that photo was the 50 First Dates actress as a baby.

These two are not the only celebrity mother-daughters who look alike! Reese Witherspoon and her daughter Ava Elizabeth Philippe, and Cindy Crawford and her daughter Kaia Gerber look nearly identical! Of course, these girls are much older than little Olive, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Drew’s oldest daughter grew up to look just like her. They’ve got the same face shape, big eyes, delicate nose, and bold lips.

We’ll update you in a decade!

Back in 1982, a young Drew Barrymore stole America’s hearts in the Steven Spielberg classic E.T. And now that Drew has grown up and has children of her own, it turns out one of her daughters could easily take over as her character in a remake.

E! News reports that Barrymore brought little Frankie, who is about to turn 3, to the 2017 Society of MSK’s Bunny Hop event on Tuesday. They even posed for photographs together, and that’s when the entire Internet realized what a mini-Me Frankie is.

Here’s Drew and little Frankie on the red carpet:

And here’s little Drew in E.T. They have the same light blonde hair, chubby cheeks, and big, expressive eyes:

Frankie Barrymore Kopelman was born on April 22, 2014, and is the second daughter of Barrymore and her ex-husband, Will Kopelman. After she was born, Barrymore said she wanted her oldest daughter, Olive, to have a sibling because she didn’t have that growing up. “Olive loves Frankie and just wants to hang out with her all the time,” she told People. “She wants to feed her. She’s super into it. That’s now. I’m sure things will ebb and flow.”

At the event, things just got cuter and cuter. Here’s Frankie posing with her lookalike mom and the Easter bunny. Yup, she’s clearly just as adorable as Mom.

11 Celebs Who Look Just Like Old Hollywood Stars — PHOTOS

There are few things in life that I find more timelessly glamorous than old Hollywood. I devour black and white movies from Capra to Hitchcock, savoring every last detail — a swish of a dress, the charming lilt of the transatlantic accent — and imprinting them in my memory so that maybe, one day, I can embody even an ounce of the stars’ irresistible charm and allure (spoiler alert: never gonna happen). It may not be in the cards for me, but there are certainly a fair share of modern-day celebrities who look like old Hollywood stars, whether they capture a specific feature, possess the same kind of glamorous appeal, or are even just straight-up twinning (those are always the best). Because everyone just gets it: That classic, old Hollywood look never goes out of style. It will always be sexy, it will always be desired, and it will always (always) be emulated.

Celebrity doppelgängers are one of life’s greatest pleasures, and by “life’s greatest pleasures,” I mean they’re one of mine. So combining the idea of celeb lookalikes with old Hollywood celeb lookalikes, and I am in the zone. Check out 11 pairs of celebs — modern-day stars and their old Hollywood counterparts — in the list below.

1. Zac Efron & Leonard Whitig

Real talk: This is NOT actually Zac Efron, but actor Leonard Whitig, who starred in a 1968 film version of Romeo & Juliet. He’s been confusing English classes for decades.

2. Debra Messing & Lucille Ball

It’s more than just the trademark red hair and big, wide eyes that makes Debra Messing the reincarnation of Lucille Ball. Her comedic timing on Will & Grace and those hilariously over-the-top facial expressions make Messing a spitting image of the beloved Lucy.

3. Jennifer Lawrence & Zubaida Tharwat

J. Law bears more than just a passing resemblance to Egyptian actor Zubaida Tharwat.

4. Scott Eastwood & James Dean

Scott Eastwood gives some heart-stoppingly sultry James Dean vibes.

5. Eva Mendes & Raquel Welch

Eva Mendes could be Raquel Welch’s modern-day twin, TBH. The two are practically identical.

6. Daniel Craig & Bing Crosby

MIGUEL MEDINA/AFP/Getty Images

It’s the square face, twinkling baby blues, and those tell-tale ears: James Bond himself, aka Daniel Craig, looks a whole lot like famous old-school crooner Bing Crosby.

7. Lindsay Lohan & Elizabeth Taylor

Looks-wise, Lindsay Lohan is the living embodiment of Elizabeth Taylor.

8. Christina Aguilera & Vivien Leigh

There’s a sparkle in Christina Aguilera’s eyes that makes her unmistakably similar to Gone With the Wind star Vivien Leigh.

9. Gwen Stefani & Marilyn Monroe

The singer and iconic movie star share the same heart-shaped face, bleach blonde hair, and ruby red liptsick.

10. George Clooney & Cary Grant

George Clooney has the irresistable charm and distinguished good looks of another era — an era where king Cary Grant reigned supreme. It’s the salt-and-pepper hair, California tan, square jawline, and movie star status that make these two twins.

11. Drew Barrymore & Lionel Barrymore

Yes, they’re related, so it makes sense that they look alike. But Lionel Barrymore (Drew’s great-uncle; perhaps most well-known as his role as Mr. Potter in It’s A Wonderful Life) really is still alive in his great-niece: They have the same face-shape, the same strong jawline, and that same crooked smile. Nice to see that it’s passed down from generation to generation.

Old Hollywood lives on!

We know that Hollywood has quite a few Bollywood look-alikes (or is it the other way around?).

These ladies, despite living continents apart, seem every bit the spitting image of each other.

We tale a look at five Bollywood actresses who have a doppelganger in Hollywood of all places.

1. Anushka Sharma and Julia Micheals

Hi @AnushkaSharma apparently we’re twins lol 👯‍♀️👯‍♀️ pic.twitter.com/eYb9xjGBb2

— Julia Michaels (@juliamichaels) February 5, 2019

People had thought that Anuskha Sharma is a Julia Michaels look-alike for a while. Some even said that Anushka was a brown Julia Michaels. The similarity could no longer be kept silent when social media spread the news like wildfire. Even Julia Micheals accepted she’s an Anushka Sharma look-alike.

2. Parineeti Chopra and Hayden Panettiere

Parineeti Chopra’s look-alike has obvious physical similarities. The Heroes actress shares a doll-like face and petite size that could make people mistake her for Parineeti, if she wasn’t blonde that is. Their faces though have an uncanny resemblance though. Parineeti Chopra definitely looks like Hayden Panettiere’s doppelganger.

3. Preity Zinta and Drew Barrymore

There have been many Drew Barrymore look-alikes, however, Preity Zinta is the first brown Drew Barrymore doppelganger. From her dimples down to their grin, no wonder they look so much alike.

4. Kareena Kapoor and Paris Hilton

Kareena Kapoor’s nose and jawline make her a Paris Hilton look alike. Is Kareena Kapoor a Paris Hilton Doppelganger or is Paris Hilton a blonde Kareena Kapoor look-alike? We can go at this whole day and still not decide the winner.

5. Deepika Padukone and Irina Shayk

Did we say that Hollywood does not have a Deepika Padukone look-alike? Apparently thats not true if you look at Irina Shayk, a model for Sports Illustrated. The crazy part is not only is Deepika an Irina Shayk look-alike, they even have the same height and physique.

Who’s your all-time favorite child-actor-turned-movie-star? There are a lot of great options to choose from, from classic starlets, such as Judy Garland and Elizabeth Taylor, to modern Oscar winners like Leonardo DiCaprio and Natalie Portman. Though they are, undoubtedly, fantastic performers, our favorite is still—and will always be—Drew Barrymore.

We first fell in love with her upon our first viewing of E.T. and our obsession only grew as we watched her blossom into the ultra-likable superstar that she is today.

In recent years, she has taken on less acting roles so that she can work behind the scenes as an executive producer. She also acts as the founder and CEO of Flower Beauty, her hugely successful cosmetics line. Oh, and did we also mention that she’s a mom to two preschoolers? Talk about busy!

The renaissance woman is so busy, in fact, she does the very same thing that so many time-challenged mommas do—she takes her daughters with her to the beauty salon. Celebrities: they’re just like us!

In a recent viral Instagram post, Barrymore shared the above photo of her oldest daughter—and COMPLETE mini-me—Olive along with this adorable caption:

Tracy puts conditioner in foils on her for solidarity.

The “Tracy” Barrymore is referring to is none other than hair guru Tracy Cunningham, a master stylist who does the hair of all of your favorite celebs. It seems as though Cunningham has not only discovered the secrets to eternal hair beauty—she has also mastered the all-too-common issue of squirmy kids in hair salons.

We hope that other salon owners take note of this lady’s genius! You just know that these “mommy and me” foils entertained the little one for at least a few precious minutes. BRB while we tag our hairstylist in the comments section of this pic…

Drew Barrymore’s tiny clone

The adorable little one from that hair salon shot is Barrymore’s 5-year-old daughter Olive. The actress is pretty good at protecting both of her kiddos’ from the glare of the media spotlight, so we don’t know too much about the tot, but one thing is for sure…

… Olive looks EXACTLY like Barrymore did when she was a kid.

You do see the resemblance, right? If we didn’t know any better, we would have guessed that the photo was actually a shot of E.T.-era Drew Barrymore. In fact, we think she looks so much like her famous momma that the similarities in appearance may just rival that of another famous Hollywood kid, Reese Witherspoon’s daughter, Ava.

We just love watching our favorite former child star grow and evolve! To see even more pictures of the Hollywood mom and her lookalike daughter, be sure to watch the video below.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on all things Drew Barrymore! Do you think her daughter Olive looks like her as a child? Who is your favorite former child star? What’s your trick for keeping your kids occupied while you’re at the hair salon?

Drew Barrymore on Co-Parenting Daughters with Ex Will Kopelman: ‘We Marvel at What We Made’

Drew Barrymore is reflecting on her life and her marriage to Will Kopelman.

On Friday, after beginning a self-inspired #TheWayItLooksToUs trend to emphasize the false realities often portrayed on social media, the actress shared her own truths when it comes to co-parenting with her ex-husband.

“#TheWayItLooksToUs : RELATIONSHIPS,” Barrymore, 43, began the candid post. “Once upon a time… I remember reading an article that said I had gotten my happy ending after all. Looking at this picture, it sure looks that way.”

In the first photo she shared, the actress and Kopelman, 40, were dressed to the nines while attending the 2014 Golden Globes.

“And then, like many times in life for all of us, our plans change and our dreams are adjusted,” she continued. “But that doesn’t mean that every second wasn’t worth it. And if that DeLorean time machine pulled up every day, I would do it all over again.”

“After all, I did get my dream. 2 healthy girls,” she added, referring to the former couple’s daughters, Olive, 6, and Frankie, 4.

“Will and I continue to marvel at what we made and try to be the best co parents we can be. It’s not always easy and the point is…nothing in life is. But it doesn’t mean that any bitter outweighs the sweet!”

Along with her caption, she also posted a second photo featuring the parents, who split in August 2016. as they went for a walk with their baby girl.

In addition to Friday’s #TheWayItLooksToUs parenting post, Barrymore also shared a photo of herself on Thursday with a fresh blowout and a perfectly made-up face alongside a photo of herself crying.

Like the most recent post, the purpose of her shots was to show to that not even Hollywood glamour can hide all problems.

“What I propose some days are great and beautiful,” Barrymore captioned the shot. “Sure, I can be this with two hours of hair and makeup and amazing photography and lighting. I also feel beautiful after a sweaty workout…”

“But it all takes work!” the actress continued. “Which is good because we can achieve it. What I can’t hide is that some days are difficult and not so pretty,” Barrymore wrote in reference to the shot of her weeping.

“And I realize I am lucky with solvable problems and my gratitude is never ending,” Barrymore continued before encouraging her followers to never give up and to push through challenging times.

“But sometimes life can just get to you and take you down for a minute! But we cry and then pick ourselves up and put one foot in front of the other,” she added.
