Tamron Hall has talked about the close relationship she had with Prince in the past, but she’s never shared one of the messages they exchanged.

The former “Today” host spoke with Dan Piepenbring earlier this week on “The Tamron Hall” show, who co-wrote Prince’s new posthumous memoir “The Beautiful Ones.” And during the conversation, she talked about her photo being used for the late singer’s 2015 single “If Eye Could Get Ur Attention.”

“Prince called me every single morning to critique or give feedback on what I would wear,” Hall explained. “I sent him a selfie one day, and he then stole my selfie and used it as the cover for his single. I woke up the next morning, and people were like, ‘You’re all over the internet. You’re on the cover of Prince’s song ‘If Eye Could Get Ur Attention.’”

Hall then shared an email she and the “Purple Rain” singer exchanged, and it’s clear that he was flirting with her.

“Eye hate ur red dress… Y? Because it’s touching ur body and eye’m not :(” the email read.

People had a lot to say after a clip of Hall’s Prince segment was shared on YouTube, and some were impressed by the Purple One’s come-on line.

“i hate that dress. Because it’s touching u and I’m not. Thats game,” someone wrote.

“Very cool Prince story, Tamron,” another person stated.

“Prince definitely loved the ladies!” a third person chimed in. “He played the field most of his life from all that I can gather. LOL.”

It’s been over three years since the Purple One passed away at the age of 57 in his home state of Minnesota, which set off international mourning.

After his death, Hall said she talked to him for a long period of time just days prior. Prince died Thursday, April 21, 2016, and Hall spoke to him that previous Saturday.

“He assured me he was OK,” Hall told NBC News then. “All Saturday he kept saying he was fine and asked me to come to Paisley to see his new piano and for a fan party. I was working and didn’t go.”

“Monday, we exchanged emails after I sent him a video from a restaurant playing a song. I talked about how he was everywhere I go. It was a sweet moment and I had no idea it would be our last time talking. I never imagined it.”

“I’m Happily Married Now…” Tamron Hall Hints At Romantic Relationship With Prince

If you followed Prince’s career, you know that he surprisingly used a picture of then news anchor Tamron Hall as the cover for one of his singles. Recently on her show, in speaking about his memoir, The Beautiful Ones, she shared their relationship and how that picture came to be used. See what she said below.

“On April 21, 2016, the world lost a genius, an original thinker, and one of the precious souls in my life that helped me get where I am to this moment. In fact, right before I left my last job, Prince wrote me an email and he said, ‘Why are you waiting for them when you can do this yourself?’ And he didn’t mean by myself because, Team Tamron, it takes a village to put on this show, trust me. What he meant was you have to believe in yourself and he sent that email and a couple of years later, I left my job. That’s another story.

In this book he says, ‘I wear what I wear because I don’t like clothes. This is what’s most comfortable.’ He say she didn’t like clothes, Prince called me every single morning to critique or give feedback on what I would wear. I sent him a selfie one day, he then stole my selfie and used it as the cover for his single. I woke up the next morning and people were like ‘You’re all over the internet. You’re on the cover of Prince’s song, ‘If I Could Get Your Attention.’

Biographer: Sounds like he got yours.

Tamron: Well, he did. Or I got his. But we had been very close, many years by now. And he wrote me an email in relation. Cuz I called him and I said, ‘What are you doing?’ I never share my emails with Prince. I have hundreds of them, if not a thousand. Because I don’t, like you, want to feel like I’m exploiting.

But she read this particular email aloud.

“Subject: #1: Eye hate Ur Red Dress…

Y? Because it’s touching Ur body and Eye’m not. : ( “

Yes, I’m happily married now. We’ll leave that there. We’ll just let that simmer.”

Did Tamron Hall and Prince Date? Inside Their Close Friendship

Tamron Hall has been making headlines for topics discussed on her new talk show. The host has been open about being a new mom and her struggle to conceive after 40. The newlywed has also talked about being in an interracial marriage and how balancing home and career is a challenge.

This week, Hall got even more personal. She’s been open about the close friendship she shared with Prince until his passing in 2016 but there may have once been a love connection between the two. Fans believe that Hall and Prince dated after she revealed personal emails she and Prince shared.

How did Tamron Hall and Prince meet?

The former Today show host had a close relationship with the singer. The two bonded after Prince made a selfie that Hall took the cover of his single, “If I Could Get Your Attention.” Hall was flattered and later revealed that she sent the photo to him privately but that it was not unsolicited.

They became so close that she spoke to him daily. She even said that he was a stickler for fashion and that she accepted tips on what to wear from him. She once told the Today show, “Prince and my mother are the only two people who I talk to about what I’m going to wear,” she admitted. “I send him a picture in the morning.”

Though their relationship was tight-knit, they tried to keep it out of the spotlight. Hall spoke of Prince’s private nature after his passing with her Today Show co-hosts, saying,

“He protected his privacy, he protected the privacy of his friends…He didn’t want people to know all of the ways he helped other people. He did it as this silent angel, including how he helped me in my life on many occasions…”

Tamron Hall Hall mourns Prince’s death

Hall had such a devastating reaction to the death of Prince that she missed work in the days following his passing. At the time, she was working on both MSNBC and Today and skipped work on both shows the day after the world found out about his death. Hall revealed in a telephone interview with Today that she considered the icon to be one of her “best friends” and revealed that she’d spoken with him just hours before he was found unconscious, telling the hosts,

“He didn’t sound sick. He assured me he was okay. All Saturday he kept saying he was fine and asked me to come to Paisley to see his new piano and for a fan party. I was working and didn’t go. His death shocked her, as it did most of the world, and she took to Twitter to express her sadness. “‘Like a bird without a song.’ I’ve lost one of my best friends today,” she wrote. “I know he would have advice right now, Prince I’m listening as always.”

Tamron Hall hints at romance with Prince

While promoting Prince’s upcoming memoir, Hall opened up about the role he played in her life on her show. “I never share my emails from Prince. I have hundreds, if not thousands by now- but I don’t wanna feel like I’m exploiting,” she said. “He said he didn’t like clothes.”

The friendship between Prince and Hall may have been more than platonic at one point. This week, Hall revealed an old email from the famed performer that hinted their relationship could have been a romantic one.

Prince responded to Hall’s photo by saying, “# 1: Eye hate Ur Red Dress…Y? Because It’s touching Ur body and Eye’m not. : (“

Hall spoke further on the email, telling the audience, “We had been very close for years by now…I’m happily married now,” she said. “We’ll leave that there. We’ll just let that simmer.”

I guess we will have to keep wondering as Hall would not confirm or deny if she and Prince were ever an item!

News flash: The secret to looking like a million bucks isn’t spending a ton of money. It’s having a few versatile, knockout pieces—like the ones worn here by journalist and TV personality Tamron Hall—that make all your basics feel special. Because when getting dressed is a no-brainer, you can get back to more pressing matters like, you know, enjoying life.

A modern midi & fun booties

The skirt’s layers are deconstructed cool…and comfy. The star-covered boots are glam… and comfy. Guess how you’ll feel in both of them?

A classic dress with a flirty twist

It doesn’t get more traditional than tweed or more feminine than a ruffle hem. Put them together in one sheath dress and it’ll take you pretty much anywhere, ever.

A tuxedo jacket

The dressier version of your go-to black blazer will give everything it’s paired with Rat Pack levels of sophistication. Just look at what it does for your all-denim Saturday uniform!

A pleated floral skirt & velvet heels

A breezy skirt adds a swing to your walk, while fancy-fabric shoes lend a touch of luxury. Thrown together with an equally ladylike blouse, the effect is beautiful and super-confident.

A colorblock crewneck

There’s zero shame in living in jeans and sweaters this time of year. A knit that’s this slim, stretchy, and vibrant is a star all alone and an ace for layering under jackets.

Wide-leg trousers

The quickest way to a brighter mood? Colorful, ultra-flattering pieces. In other words, these waist-whittling, hip-minimizing sky blue pants are the best style and mood pick-me-up.

Tamron’s Rules for Fearless Style

“I read that you have to wear something five times before people remember it,” says Tamron Hall, 47. When she coanchored the Today show, “even my mom would ask, ‘Is that new?’ ” she says. “No, no, no. I’d change the belt on a dress or the necklace to give it a different energy. I don’t have J. Lo millions—I repeat all the time!” She also picked each week’s outfits on Sunday night: “When you’re standing in front of the closet tired, guess what you think? Gosh, I have nothing to wear. Planning gave me time to see how I could mix things up.” Tamron exited the Today show earlier this year in a move that got lots of attention, but brought her no regret. “I didn’t get to where I am by being afraid to walk out the door,” she says. “I enjoy growing, so I’m always taking chances.” In July, she signed on with a major production company to develop her own talk show; the fifth season of Investigation Discovery’s Deadline: Crime With Tamron Hall premieres this month; and through the Tamron Renate Fund (named for her sister who was killed by an abusive partner) she’s helping educate friends and family on how to support victims of domestic violence. “Whatever I do in the future,” she says, “it’s important to me that it shows my authentic self.” Inspiring, no?

Tamron Hall Still Gets Style Advice from Her Mom – Sometimes Unsolicited, While She’s on the Air

No matter how long you’ve been out of the house or how successful you get, you’re never too old for your mom to not weigh in on your outfits. Just ask TV host and award-winning journalist Tamron Hall, who would field her mom’s thoughts even while on-air during her former job at the Today Show.

“I’d occasionally get a message from a viewer saying ‘Why do you look down at your phone?’ and I said, ‘Truthfully, waiting for my mother’s critique,’ Hall tells People, laughing. “‘Miss Hall, I don’t like that lipstick,’ ‘Miss Hall, that’s a great dress, ‘Miss Hall is that new?’ I had a dress I thought was very cute, and I wore it one morning. I couldn’t even get off air my mother says ‘Don’t you ever wear that dress again!’ And then you’re torn: Will I donate this ugly dress to someone?”

But there’s a reason that Hall trusts those critiques: Her mom, Mary Newton, has long been a style influence of hers, and it started with church on Sundays. “A lot of women in my neighborhood worked at the post office or were teachers or worked at hospitals, and often wore uniforms Monday through Friday. And the Sunday church service gave them this opportunity to show their individual fashion,” Hall says. “And for me, that’s where it all came together. That’s when I could look at my mom and say, not only was this an incredible mom Monday through Saturday, but on Sunday she was fierce.”

Hall also notes that her mom managed to look phenomenal on a tight budget – something she really takes to heart, even now that her job affords her designer items. “My mom was a working mom and at one point a single working mom. So she did not have an elaborate closet by any imagination. But you know, she worked with what she had,” she said. “For my mom, there was no ‘high/low’ . There was ‘low/low,’ and you were going to make it work. My prom dress was made by hand from a pattern book that she got in the dollar store. It wasn’t , and I’m happy it wasn’t.”

Image zoom Courtesy Tamron Hall

And though she didn’t always appreciate her mom’s style (“Oh, God no! Listen, I’m a child of the ’70s, and my mom went through the short-shorts, big Afro, Soul Train thing.”) she now can look back at the ways she was influenced by Newton. “I remember taking a pair of her hoops in ninth grade, wearing those and thinking that I was super fly. And I’ve been wearing hoops ever since,” she said. “I wish she’d kept the crochet style dresses you would see in the ’70s, the platform shoes that she and my aunt would wear. That ’70s retro thing – I am now into without even realizing it.”

In addition to her love of hoops, Hall says she also inherited from her mom a disinclination to spend much on jewelry, a love of color and an affinity for hats. “I never had a chance to meet my grandmother; we only have two photographs of her, and one is a grainy, blurry image, but she has a hat on. And to see my mother take on that hat tradition – and then without even knowing, I suddenly look in my own closet, and I have way too many hats. That’s also a special fashion connection that I didn’t see coming, but it is from my grandmother Mary, passed on to my mother Mary, and now passed onto me.”

Image zoom Courtesy Tamron Hall

The secret to pulling off a hat? “When you put the hat on, you cannot let the hat wear you. You’ve got to wear that hat,” Hall says. “The fashion culture that I come from wasn’t one of designer labels … it was how you strutted in the church. It was that kind of, what we call now swagger.”

It’s also that intangible element that keeps her mom looking youthful and vibrant in anything she wears. “She’s 68 years old and she looks phenomenal. People come up all the time: ‘Are you sure that’s your mom?’ When I see a photograph of my mother – you can see a hat, you can see beautiful clothing and bright colors, all of these things – but I see, and I think the people who know her, see that twinkle in her eye. That loving energy that she has.”

Image zoom Courtesy Tamron Hall

And though Hall is happy to treat her mom to a fancy handbag or nice jewelry these days, she says it’s not about that for her mom, even still. “My mom is like most mothers. She never asks for anything. She’s happy to see me be happy, that’s her gift,” Hall says. “You can look at my life now and any other celebrity and you think ‘Wow, look at the fashion’. But most of us were raised by women like my mother, who scraped and fought to get us to where we are. And the style that you see, the confidence that we can portray in photographs, that is something that’s given to us by our mothers. That’s something that’s delivered to us by them nurturing our spirit.”

On February 2, 2017 Al Roker announced that Tamron Hall would be leaving the Today show and NBC News. “We want to wish her nothing but the best, much continued success, and cannot wait to see what her next chapter is,” Al said at the time.

Right away, the announcement shocked Today show fans, with many wondering what the real reason behind Tamron’s sudden departure was (and if it had anything to do with the arrival of Megyn Kelly from Fox News).

Here’s what Tamron has said about her exit:

Why did Tamron Hall really leave Today?

Reports began to surface in late January of 2017 that Megyn was “being considered” for her own hour-long program on Today that would air in the fall. She was either going to take over the 9.a.m. hour, which Tamron and Al were running at the time, or the 10 a.m. hour that belonged to Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb.

What’s more, the network made clear that if they put Megyn in the 10 a.m. slot, they’d move KLG and Hoda up an hour. The same wasn’t true for Al and Tamron, however. As The New York Times put it, “the current iteration of the third hour of Today … will be at thing of the past once Ms. Kelly’s show begins.”

All while this unnerving news was going around, Tamron’s contract with NBC happened to be up in February. The journalist had been with NBC since 2007, having first joined MSNBC and later becoming a part of Today in 2014. She was allegedly in the process of negotiating her contract when the news broke.

However, Tamron decided to walk away just days after reports about Megyn surfaced.

“Yesterday was her last day as an anchor on both networks,” a statement from NBC News read on February 1, 2017. “Tamron is an exceptional journalist, we valued and enjoyed her work at Today and MSNBC and hoped that she would decide to stay. We are disappointed that she has chosen to leave, but we wish her all the best.”

Additionally, Tamron shared her own statement: “The last 10 years have been beyond anything I could have imagined, and I’m grateful. I’m also very excited about the next chapter. To all my great colleagues, I will miss you and I will be rooting for you.”

Where is Tamron Hall now?

Fast forward to today, and Tamron couldn’t be doing better. For one, Tamron recently welcomed her first baby with her husband, Steve Greener, in late April. The 48-year-old journalist was ecstatic to share the news about her baby boy named Moses.

“Moses & Mama!! I can’t wait to introduce y’all to my #sonshine,” she wrote on Instagram. “Photo credit: Dad who can’t stop crying tears of joy. Thank y’all for the love and support. It got us here.”

Behind the scenes though, Tamron shared with People that she was initially worried about telling people she was pregnant, which explains why she didn’t reveal the truth to fans until she was at the 8-month mark.

“I was high-risk, not just because of my age, but there were other medical factors, too,” she told the publication. “I was terrified I would lose this baby and I would have to go back and tell everyone that now it was bad news and after this pregnancy had gone so far.”

Fortunately, Moses and Tamron are doing well. And now, on top of being a new mom, Tamron has her own talk show launching on September 9, 2019. Variety explains that the set up will be like the Oprah Winfrey Show and Phil Donahue Show and will cover both light-hearted lifestyle topics as well as in-depth stories.

All in all, Tamron is the living, breathing definition of the old saying, “When one door closes, another one opens.” But even though she is thriving now, Tamron admitted to GoodHousekeeping.com that her mind was racing when she left NBC.

“On the outside, it looked like it was all together. ‘Look at her, she’s walking out, her head up.’ My head is never going to be bowed, but I had to pray not to be broken,” Tamron explained.

But eventually, she realized that everything does, in fact, happen for a reason.

While on a press run promoting her upcoming daytime talk show Tamron Hall earlier this week, journalist Tamron Hall opened up about how she felt about Megyn Kelly being hired in her spot and her departure from NBC News.

Hall said that Kelly’s success would not hinder her success, however, Hall still felt that NBC made the wrong decision.

“Megyn’s success or not, I already knew they made the wrong choice when I left the door. So I would never measure by her success or perceived lack thereof. I knew the day I left it was the wrong decision.

Hall went on to say that even though she wasn’t sure what the future holds she trusted her instincts which resulted in Hall landing her own talk show in the end.

“For me, I didn’t know what would come after leaving that situation. I’m blessed and fortunate that this is the end result. But whether that show made it or not, I knew I was making the right decision for me.”

Hall left NBC News in 2017 after Fox news anchor Megyn Kelly got the third hour of the Today show, which Hall co-hosted with Al Rucker.

Megyn Kelly Today was canceled after just one year. Although the show struggled with ratings, in the beginning, the show’s ultimate demise came after she suggested blackface is appropriate to wear on Halloween.

The Tamron Hall Show premieres on September 9th.

Tamron Hall’s signature pixie is as essential to her look as bright colors and great shoes, and she’s been vocal in the past about how much she loves it. But like any woman, it’s her prerogative to have fun with her hair from time to time – and it looks like she did just that in a yet-to-be-revealed segment for the Today Show.

The anchor, who spoke about how her Anita Baker-inspired cut made her feel like herself earlier this year, channeled another icon – Pam Grier – in a handful of shots she posted to her Instagram Tuesday afternoon. She didn’t share much about the inspiration for her new, textured do, aside from a few winky emojis and a promise to share details soon on the show. But fans immediately went nuts for her new look, many drawing comparisons to Grier and Diana Ross.

We’re equally obsessed with the star’s new do, but we don’t expect her to keep it up for long. Earlier this year, Hall said her piecey pixie, which she got at 18 after a boyfriend told her he loved Anita Baker, was her favorite thing about herself – and defended it from internet jerks. “I remember reading the cruelest, most awful thing about my hair online.

A person speculated about who I was as a person and even read into my personal life based solely off my hairstyle. He or she said I must be lazy because I have short hair. It was just devastating,” she said. She even started to grow it back out, but at her mom’s suggestion, she returned to her crop, and “My soul came back. And I said, ‘This is who I am, and deal with it.’”

She also added at the time that she preferred her hair straight, only going natural on TV once after taking a flight back from an outing with Bear Grylls: “I had a flight back in the middle of the night, and I’d planned on getting my hair done straight. But it’s a process, and I just did not feel like going through that that day.” Perhaps this mysterious new look will kick off some more hair experimentation for Hall in 2017.

Tamron Hall Loves Her Short Hair – Despite Getting ‘the Cruelest, Most Awful’ Comments Online

Tamron Hall has got to be one of the hardest working women on TV: She’s the co-host of the 9 a.m. hour of the Today show, anchors MSNBC Live with Tamron Hall and is the host of Deadline Crime. She’s also one of the most stylish, thanks to her fashion-forward wardrobe and her ultra-chic pixie, which she’s had since she was 18 years old!

Her piecey short cut became her signature look thanks to her boyfriend at the time. “Everyone used to say, ‘Oh, wow, she’s got Halle Berry hair,’ but the truth is, it’s fashioned off of Anita Baker,” she explains on Today.com. “My boyfriend at the time was absolutely obsessed with her. He just loved her. And I wanted to have Anita Baker hair.”

Hall kept the same hairstyle while working in cable news, but once she got to the national news stage, viewers’ negative comments had a huge affect on her: “I remember reading the cruelest, most awful thing about my hair online. A person speculated about who I was as a person and even read into my personal life based solely off my hairstyle. He or she said I must be lazy because I have short hair. It was just devastating.”

She actually varied up her strands because of it, growing them shoulder-length. “If you look at pictures of me on Today back in 2009, you’ll see that I started to grow out my hair to a little bob, or something like a bob. I really let it get to me.”

One day, her mom brought up the topic of her hair and she immediately chopped it off again. “I’ve finally learned that this is what I like, and this is how I look best. And that’s great.”

She’s been so faithful to her go-to style ever since, she only switched it up once, going natural after an outing with Bear Grylls in 2014. “I had a flight back in the middle of the night, and I’d planned on getting my hair done straight. But it’s a process, and I just did not feel like going through that that day.”

In the end though, she’s always happy to talk about her hair or fashion choices because she says it’s a great way to connect with viewers. “If someone says, ‘I love that lipstick’ I will always try to answer, honestly, if I know what color it is. It’s a connective tissue.”
