When calls the heart finale?

‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 6 and 7: Release date, plot, cast and everything else about the heartwarming drama

Following actress Lori Loughlin’s indictment in an elite college admissions cheating scandal, Hallmark Channel pulled ‘When Calls the Heart’ from their schedule in mid-March, upsetting fans everywhere — only three episodes of the sixth season had aired when the channel decided to pause the show. This was necessary to incorporate “creative solutions” to revamp the remaining installments of the 10-episode series.

The wait is over as it was revealed that season 6 will resume on May 5 and May 6 telecasting back-to-back remaining episodes. These episodes have been edited to exclude Loughlin’s character of Abigail Stanton, the mayor of Hope Valley.

The show’s executive producer Brian Bird also took to Twitter to deliver the news to fans.

#Hearties… I hope you all got to see @erinkrakow’s beautiful statement today about the return of S6 of @WCTH_TV on @hallmarkchannel. Here is my two cents for you, as well! pic.twitter.com/XCOZrGHRpU

— Brian Bird (@brbird) April 10, 2019

The news, however, is sweeter than fans had expected it to be. Series star Erin Krakow announced that the show has been renewed for season 7 during the premiere of the TV-movie ‘Bottled With Love’.

Release date

The remaining episodes of the sixth season will be telecasted back-to-back on May 5 and 6 on Hallmark Channel. Season 7 will be out in 2020.

Plot

The heartwarming drama set in the early 20th Century tells the story of Elizabeth Thatcher, played by Erin Krakow, a young teacher accustomed to her high-society life. When she is assigned her first classroom in Coal Valley, a small coal-mining town in Western Canada, she feels out of place. Living in the 1910 coal town, Thatcher must learn how the new way of life is in order to thrive in the rural. Following an accident that killed most of the miners of the town, the widowed women must go back to work to bring food on the table.

Hope is finally returning to Hope Valley: When Calls the Heart will resume its sixth season shortly.

Hallmark Channel announced Wednesday that its signature frontier drama will return on Sunday, May 5 at 8 p.m. In what’s being billed as a two-night event, a new episode will air on Monday, May 6 as well, and then the show will return to its normal Sunday slot. When Calls the Heart has been absent from the schedule since mid-March, when it was suddenly pulled from the schedule, mere hours after the network severed all ties with Lori Loughlin over the college admissions cheating scandal. At the time, the network announced that it was evaluating “all creative options” for the show.

As EW reported at the time, a likely option was to remove Loughlin’s character, Abigail, a key figure who is the Mayor of Hope Valley, from the rest of the episodes in season 6. (Cancellation was not one of the scenarios discussed, especially given that When Calls the Heart is the network’s top-rated original series and longest-running.) And that Loughlin-less scenario has come to pass. The remaining season 6 installments have been re-edited in such a manner that removes any appearances by Loughlin, a source close to the show tells EW.

Removing Loughlin from the majority of the season required some highly creative editing, as well as some minor reshoots. As a result, one fewer episode will be offered in season 6, which means viewers will receive six episodes instead of seven. (Three episodes from season 6 aired prior to the unplanned hiatus, and the first proved to be the highest-rated premiere in Hallmark history, netting 3.6 million viewers in Live+3, ranking behind only The Walking Dead for the week.)

WTCH executive producer Brian Bird thanked fans on Instagram for “sticking with us through this challenging time,” and added: “Life throws all of us painful curveballs, and the only way to survive is to walk right through them with courage, grace, a forgiving spirit, and most of all, hope. Many of you have wondered what the future holds for our cast and crew, and for the citizens of Hope Valley. Your care and concern means the world to us, and the best way we can thank you is to encourage you the way you encourage us because… Hope always lives here.”

Loughlin — a veteran of Full House and Fuller House, as well as Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ The Garage Sales Mysteries and many Hallmark Christmas movies — and her fashion designer husband, Mossimo Giannulli, are accused of paying $500,000 to help secure admission to the University of Southern California by positioning their daughters, Olivia Jade, 19, and Isabella Rose, 20, as recruits to school’s crew team. Neither daughter rowed crew. Loughlin, who was arraigned in federal court in Boston last week, and Giannulli have been charged with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, and honest services mail and wire fraud. On Tuesday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said that the couple, along with 14 other parents, are also being charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering.

In a statement last month, Hallmark Cards, which owns Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, said, “We are saddened by the recent news surrounding the college admissions allegations,” and noted that it was “no longer working with Lori Loughlin.” At the time, Bird confirmed on Instagram that the show was set to return following a “creative” hiatus and a “challenging transition”. “#Hearties, thank you for your love, support, and patience these last several days as we have all been preoccupied with the news about Lori Loughlin and her family, and the decisions our colleagues at the Hallmark Channel USA needed to make,” read his statement. “As you can imagine, everyone involved with When Calls the Heart was surprised by these developments, so we hope you can forgive us for initially staying silent while we sorted through how to respond. As for the show itself, we know millions of fans are on pins and needles wondering what will happen now. Let us reassure you, When Calls the Heart has always been bigger than the sum of its parts, and it HAS NOT BEEN CANCELED. With the full support of the network, we have gone on a creative hiatus to do some retooling on the remaining Season 6 episodes. That process has already begun. Hope Valley will return to your TV screens as soon as we can bring the episodes to you.”

When Calls the Heart, which debuted in 2014, also stars Erin Krakow, Jack Wagner, Martin Cummins, Pascale Hutton, and Kavan Smith, Chris McNally, Loretta Walsh, and Kevin McGarry.

Krakow also announced news of the show’s return in a video that aired on Hallmark Channel, which you can watch here.

  • When Calls the Heart revealed that character Jack Thornton had died in the Hallmark show’s season 5 finale.
  • The actor, Daniel Lissing, opened up about the real reason he left after the final episode aired.

When Calls the Heart devastated its loyal viewers when the show revealed the heartbreaking death of Jack Thornton during the season 5 finale.

The beloved Mounty had been a central character to the Hallmark series since it began in 2014, and “Hearties” were deeply invested in his relationship with the central character, teacher Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow). So why did Daniel Lissing, the actor who played Jack, have to go and ruin such a good thing?

“Circumstances arose for me where I needed to leave When Calls the Heart for reasons that are very personal to me,” Daniel said in a Facebook Live, according to Entertainment Tonight. “I went to Hallmark and they were nothing but supportive of me. I went to the girls and they were nothing but supportive of me.”

Eike Schroter

The “girls” he references are his close pals, Lori Loughlin and Erin, who play Abigail Stanton and Elizabeth, respectively. Erin said she was “really sad” about his exit, and SAME.

“Dan, in many ways, has been my partner in crime for five years, and one of my greatest scene partners ever,” she said. “I’m just really gonna miss him.”

But despite him leaving his cast members behind, Lori assured that there was no behind-the-scenes drama that led to Daniel’s decision.

“We are actors, and actors have contracts and sometimes those contracts expire and you have a choice to make,” she said. “You either renegotiate or you don’t, and Dan has chosen to move on, we respect that.”

Eike Schroter

Luckily, it doesn’t appear that Daniel is forgetting Hallmark entirely. He starred in a Christmas movie, Christmas in Love, in 2018, and attended a Television Critics Association event with his Hallmark friends in February.

But it also looks like we’ll be able to see Daniel outside of the family-friendly network, too. In 2018, he appeared on several episodes of S.W.A.T., and we can only hope we also see him on some of our other favorite crime dramas.

“I have no idea what the future holds for my career..but I’m excited to see what happens,” he wrote after his final episode aired. “I feel very lucky you have the support of the #hearties and @hallmarkchannel moving forward.”

Hearties Want to Know Why ‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 6 Isn’t on Netflix

Hallmark went back to Hope Valley on Christmas day when the network aired the annual When Calls the Heart holiday special. The 1½-hour movie featured Elizabeth preparing to celebrate baby Jack’s first birthday. Meanwhile, Lucas planned an elaborate Christmas festival to impress her, while his rival Nathan had to make a choice about whether to stay in Hope Valley or move on.

The special slaked the thirst of Hearties, who’d been waiting for new episodes of their favorite show since the season 6 finale aired in June 2019. But it also left many wondering when they’d get the chance to revisit those episodes on Netflix.

‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 6 still isn’t on Netflix

In recent years, new seasons on When Calls the Heart have aired in the winter and spring. And by late fall or early winter, those episodes have arrived on Netflix. But this year, that isn’t the case.

Currently, five seasons of the show are streaming on the service. Season 4 arrived on Netflix in December 2017, while season 5 made its debut at the end of December 2018. But season 6 still isn’t available, nor does it appear on any lists of upcoming January 2020 Netflix releases.

Hearties are getting frustrated

The Netflix streaming delay has left some Hearties frustrated. A few voiced their disappointment in comments on a post from the show’s official Instagram account that encouraged people to purchase a streaming pass for the upcoming season 7 on Amazon or other sites.

“When comes season 6 on Netflix?” one fan asked. Several other commenters had a similar response to the post. One even worried that Netflix and Hallmark might have parted ways, leaving those without cable no choice but to purchase individual episodes from Amazon or iTunes.

The When Calls the Heart Instagram account replied to a few of the comments. However, the response that a “Netflix date for season six has not yet been announced” didn’t shed much light on the issue.

What about ‘When Calls the Heart’ Season 7?

Hearties are also waiting to find out when the next season of When Calls the Heart will start airing on Hallmark. While a specific premiere date has not been announced, a Jan. 3 post on the show’s official Instagram indicated that the show would return in February 2020. That’s what many fans expected, since the last four seasons have premiered in that month.

In the next season of the show, fans will see more of the love triangle between Elizabeth, Lucas, and Nathan.

“Lucas and Nathan let Elizabeth know, in no uncertain terms, how they feel about her,” showrunner Alfonso H. Moreno told Entertainment Tonight.

We may also see more of Rosemary’s journey to motherhood, Moreno said, as well as the evolution of Carson and Faith’s relationship and wedding planning for Clara and Jessie. Clearly, Hearties have a lot to look forward to!

When Calls the Heart wasted no time addressing the elephant in the room.

Hallmark Channel’s original drama resumed its sixth season on Sunday after being taken off the air in March, following star and executive producer Lori Loughlin’s involvement in a massive, nationwide college bribery scandal. Shortly after, the network cut ties with Loughlin, leaving many to question how they would handle her absence on the popular series. Now, that question has been answered.

When Calls the Heart, which opted to edit Loughlin out of all her scenes, opened its return episode with Erin Krakow’s Elizabeth Thatcher writing a letter to a friend detailing the changes that have taken place in Hope Valley since the last aired episode in March.

A week has passed and Loughlin’s character, Abigail Stanton, who owns a local cafe and is also mayor of Hope Valley, made the abrupt decision to travel to the East Coast — with her adopted son, Cody — to care for her ill mother. The mood Elizabeth conveys through her letter is of hope and of moving on, one that could be taken as a direct message to fans of the show.

“We never know how life will turn,” Elizabeth writes. “It’s been a week since Abigail got word that her mother had taken ill back east. True to her nature, Abigail wasted no time in rushing off to take care of her. Abigail is much more than a friend. She’s family and I will miss her and Cody deeply. We all will. But we must get by as best we can.”

“We all keep Abigail and her family in our prayers and wish her godspeed,” she continues, revealing that members of the community, notably Bill (Jack Wagner) and Clara (Eva Bourne), have taken over responsibilities at the cafe in Abigail’s place. “In her absence, we must soldier on and we will. We are a community. We are strong. We are Hope Valley.”

The decision to keep Loughlin’s character alive in the world of When Calls the Heart keeps in line with the family-friendly programming Hallmark prides itself on. It also leaves the door slightly ajar for a slim chance at a Loughlin return should that opportunity arise down the line.

Lori Loughlin appears in an early season six episode of ‘When Calls the Heart.’

Eike Schroter/Crown Media

In addition to Loughlin being taken off all promotional materials for When Calls the Heart, which was recently renewed for a seventh season, the 54-year-old actress is no longer part of the show’s opening credits.

ET was with Wagner in April, where he compared Loughlin’s When Calls the Heart firing to “the five stages of grief.” “I can’t describe it any better than that,” he said. “When you lose something or someone, I would describe it that way.”

Wagner, who has been with the show since its first season, credited the rejiggering of the six remaining season six episodes “a real group effort,” praising the cast’s resilience as they begin to “lovingly ahead” without Loughlin.

“When a show … loses a character or something that is just such a key component to the show … you really have to regroup and restructure,” he explained. “Ultimately it’s about how you’re going to write the show and what the attitude is going to be amongst the actors as professionals, so that’s been tested again and we all showed up, we hit our marks and we’re trying to do our best.”

Loughlin was taken into custody by FBI agents in Los Angeles on March 13 after being one of 50 people — including her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli — charged in a college admissions cheating scam. They are accused of paying $500,000 in bribes to get their daughters, Olivia Jade and Isabella Rose, admitted to the University of Southern California as recruits for the crew team, even though neither of them participated in the sport.

On April 13, Loughlin and Giannulli were indicted on an additional charge. They formally submitted not guilty pleas on April 29.

When Calls the Heart continues its two-night return Monday, May 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Hallmark Channel, before resuming the rest of season six Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

When Calls the Heart is completing Season 6 today, but how long will you have to wait before you can watch the season on Netflix? Quite a few fans wait to watch the series until it comes to the streaming service. Unfortunately, if you’re waiting then you have a few more months ahead of you.

Netflix’s schedule for releasing When Calls the Heart has been erratic and tough to predict. Since Netflix has not announced anything officially about Season 6, it will likely be released sometime between December 2019 and February 2020. It’s likely that we won’t see When Calls the Heart Season 5 on Netflix until mid-to-late January or February. It will probably be released on Netflix just before Season 7 premieres on the Hallmark Channel, which typically happens in February every year.

If you just can’t wait, you can watch Season 6 on Amazon now.

Netflix often doesn’t always give exact dates for when its non-Netflix original series are being released. So it will probably be a while before we hear anything specific. There’s no need to start looking yet. You’ll probably get to watch the Christmas special for When Calls the Heart in 2019 before Season 6 comes to Netflix. (Hallmark hasn’t announced a Christmas special yet, but since they air one every year, it’s likely to happen again this year.)

For the last three seasons, When Calls the Heart has been releasing new seasons on the Hallmark Channel at the same time every year, in mid-to-late February. Season 3 released on February 21, 2016, Season 4 released on February 19, 2017, and Season 5 released on February 18, 2018. Then Season 6 released on February 24, 2019.

Season 3, meanwhile, was released on Netflix on Sunday, February 19, 2017, almost exactly a year after it premiered on The Hallmark Channel, HiddenRemote noted. This caused fans to believe this was the new schedule, and that When Calls the Heart Season 4 would be released in February 2018. But Netflix surprised everyone by announcing in November 2017 that it was releasing Season 4 in December 2017 instead of February 2018. Then Season 5 released on Netflix in early 2019.

As far as international viewers outside of the United States, it’s a little different. When Calls the Heart became available internationally on Netflix in August 2017. Season 3 of the series was released on Netflix Canada in February 2018, because Canada’s Super Channel has the rights to release the show before it’s released on Netflix Canada. So the show’s schedule for release on Netflix outside the U.S. is completely different and varies from country to country.

If you want to avoid the confusion and watch Season 6 right away, your easiest choice is to simply buy it on Amazon and stream it there.

  • The When Calls the Heart season 6 finale aired on the Hallmark Channel Sunday night.
  • The last scene of the episode saw Elizabeth Thornton seemingly choose Lucas over Nathan, but then appear to rethink her decision.
  • Now, fans are split over wanting Elizabeth to be with Nathan or Lucas.

Are you Team Nathan or Team Lucas?

It’s the tough question most Hearties are asking themselves following the When Calls the Heart season 6 finale on Sunday night. The last episode of the season left off with Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) choosing to dance with Lucas (Chris McNally) while also dramatically locking eyes with Nathan (Kevin McGarry). As a result, Hearties are now taking sides.

Of course, Team Nathan folks are aren’t happy with Elizabeth’s decision. “Anyone else feel bitter that Elizabeth @erinkrakow chose to dance with Lucas over Nathan?!” one fan tweeted. “Ahh I really wanted her to pick Nathan, not Lucas??? Ugh maybe next season!” another said.

We already had the perfect mountie, that was #Jack! #Elizabeth story needs to go a different road this time! #Lucas is witty, kind and under all that charm you can see he’s got a good heart! #TeamLucas all the way! #hearties #WhenCallsTheHeart

Meanwhile, all the Team Lucas fans are rejoicing about how the finale turned out. “#Elizabeth story needs to go a different road this time! #Lucas is witty, kind and under all that charm you can see he’s got a good heart!” one noted. “#TeamLucas. Way more chemistry between Elizabeth and Lucas! The suspense is fun though!” another declared.

Team Nathan fans shouldn’t give up just yet, though. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, When Calls the Heart executive producer Alfonso H. Moreno said that just because Elizabeth chose Lucas as a dance partner doesn’t mean Nathan is out of the picture completely.

“Honestly, I am not sure, yet. I am starting the WCTH writers’ room next week and we’ll start plotting out the season,” Alfonso revealed. “I believe that there is a lot of humor, romance, and emotion that can arise from Lucas and Nathan seeking to win Elizabeth’s heart and Elizabeth having to decide who is the better man for her.”

When Calls the Heart: Season 6 amazon.com

Alfonso went on to say that he wanted the season finale to divide Hearties the way that it did.

“I hoped to develop these two new, very different, characters in such a way that both would be worthy of Elizabeth’s love,” Alfonso explained. “I also hoped that the social media fan base would be engaged enough to be split as to who was the worthiest choice.”

In terms of who Elizabeth’s “worthiest choice” will be, Hearties are going to have to wait until season 7, which is set to return in February 2020. Until then, the Lucas-Nathan debate rages on!

**WARNING: This article contains spoilers from the When Calls the Heart season 5 finale.**

Fans of When Calls the Heart were dealt a seriously painful emotional blow on Sunday’s season 5 finale.

After an agonizing cliffhanger at the end of last week’s episode, the finale wasted no time in confirming fans’ worst fears: Jack is dead.

Just weeks after Jack (Daniel Lissing) tied the knot with the town’s popular school teacher, Elizabeth (Erin Krakow), after five seasons of watching their romance develop and blossom, the handsome Canadian Mountie was killed, leaving a heartbroken wife to tend to his funeral.

During Jack’s funeral, a touching eulogy revealed the star’s fate.

“Jack died as he lived — a hero. He was leading a group of recruits through the mountain, and there was a landslide,” revealed Jack’s close friend, Bill Avery (Jack Wagner). “He pushed two of his men out of the way, saving their lives at the expense of his.”

While the emotional episode begins with the town in mourning and Jack already buried, he makes several appearances during the finale through Elizabeth’s tear-jerking flashbacks.

In one of the most heartbreaking moments in the finale, Elizabeth goes out to the plot of land Jack bought for them, and reads a letter given to her by the Mountie who informed her of Jack’s demise at the end of the previous episode.

The letter, which Jack wrote in the event of his own death, tells Elizabeth that she should “take comfort that I will be watching over you for the rest of your days. I will always be with you in spirit.”

He also asks Elizabeth that she makes sure to open her heart to the possibility of love again in the future.

However, despite the tragic loss, it looks like the town of Hope Valley might actually get a little more hopeful next season. Late in the episode, Elizabeth discovers that she’s suddenly nauseated by the smell of coffee.

Stepping outside to settle her stomach, close confidant Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin) joins her, and helps her realize why she’s been feeling tired, run-down and sick to her stomach, and it’s not just deep emotional trauma — Elizabeth is pregnant with Jack’s baby!

Throughout his final episode, Lissing took to Twitter to live tweet the emotional finale, and seemed just as heartbroken and touched as so many of the show’s fans.

This is very hard to watch #hearties thanks for sticking with it #family

A baby heartie is on the way!!! #hearties

In fact, Lissing, Krakow and Loughlin spent the evening watching the show together and celebrating the end of the five-season on-screen romance and friendship.

We love you #[email protected]@LoriLoughlinpic.twitter.com/3fyWba2M3W

— Daniel Lissing (@DLissing) April 23, 2018

ET’s Deidre Behar caught up with Lissing right beforeWhen Calls the Heart’s big wedding episode in March, and he coyly addressed whether or not Jack and Elizabeth were planning on starting a family.

“I haven’t read too far in advance, but I have a feeling. I have a feeling!” he gushed. “You can guarantee there will be a few surprises along the way, but what I would like to see is a happy family. Elizabeth’s beaming smile, with a baby, in Hope Valley.”
