Sleep In An Actual Rail Car When You Stay At This Train-Themed Hotel In Northern California
If you consider yourself a train enthusiast, you’ll definitely want to pay attention to this one-of-a-kind rail car hotel right here in Northern California. Not only is this place located smack dab in the middle of wine country, but the hotel itself looks like something from a dream. Located in downtown Yountville, the Napa Valley Railway Inn is composed of 100-year-old train cars that have been converted into beautiful and cozy overnight rooms. The hotel’s bright red exterior is both hard to miss and the first clue that this hotel is unlike anything you’ve seen before. There are nine individual suites within the property. Although the rooms are simple, they are absolutely exquisite. They are actually surprisingly spacious despite the fact that the train car’s have a long and narrow interior. Guest rooms offer a king or queen bed, a private bathroom, a flat screen TV, and a sitting area. The decor is downright gorgeous. It’s hard to believe these train cars had former lives which included carrying cattle or supplies. The hotel comes complete with anything you could possibly need for a relaxing getaway. The Model Bakery is the on-site bakery that offers specialty coffee drinks, fresh juice and smoothies, and delicious fresh-baked pastries. It’s the perfect way to start your day before exploring wine country. In the evening, you’ll definitely want to end your day by indulging in a glass of local wine while taking in the view from your outdoor patio. The hotel is so charming that you’ll find it hard to pull yourself away. However, there are plenty of things to do in the area that you’ll want to take advantage of. In the morning, be sure to catch a view of the hot air balloons that take off in the field right behind the hotel every day. The scenery of Napa Valley is world famous, and you’ll want to take some time to explore it. Enjoy a day of bike riding through the vineyards, hike one of the many trails in the area, or simply shop ’til you drop in downtown Yountville. There are tons of restaurants within walking distance of the Railway Inn. However, the Yountville Trolley is a great option for transporting yourself around town. So much to see, so little time! The Railway Inn is a uniquely Northern California experience. For more information, you can visit their website here.
This is a great place to stay for railroad buffs. The motel rooms are cabooses that have been refurbished. It is an experience worth doing. Having said that, the caboose we stayed in was the Honeymoon Caboose, and had a large bed and a whirlpool tub. Also an adequate bathroom. Very clean. However, because it was small, there were limitations. For instance, no side tables beside the bed, as there wasn’t room. No closet or even a hook to hang clothes on anywhere, or a bureau. So it was a bit like camping, and we lived out of our suitcases while there for two days. Probably would stay in a motel next time if we went back. The restaurant is very good, and is in refurbished train cars, so again, a train buff experience. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on-site. Very handy and good food. Fun to watch the Amish buggies go by on the road while we were eating breakfast. The Amish buggy rides are on-site, as well as a petting zoo, and a “viewing silo” to climb and see the Amish countryside around. The Strasburg train goes by the property, and especially for children, it is an experience.
Enjoy the ride of your life on the “Whistle Stop Limited”. Our private train cars were built at the turn of the century and their historic past services include dining and railroad executive cars.
Train travel has always held a sense of romance for those who choose to “ride the rails”. Perhaps the greatest joy is having time for yourselves. Suspended in your cocoon you can soak in the whirlpool, enjoy some popcorn and a movie, read a book or just lie back and let the train gently rock your cares away.
Experience the grandeur of the Victorian Era when you step inside the house and see the quality workmanship and restoration. Beautiful oak woodwork and turn-of-the-century antiques grace the interior. Whether staying in the house, built in 1903, or in one of the authentic railroad cars, whether a railroad buff, a lover of antiques or just someone who enjoys the unusual, this place is for you. The Inn sits on an acre of land, nestled among towering 150 year old pine and oak trees.
Whether you’re planning a business trip, a honeymoon, a slumber party, observing an anniversary, or just an “escape” from the ordinary, the Whistle Stop is at your service.
