Too faced primed poreless

Overall Score: 88/100

Tested May 2017

Too Faced has formulated this product to wear under bronzers and foundation powders, or alone, to achieve the look of flawless skin without make-up. Vitamins A & C, Mulberry Extract and a powerful dose of Retinol are said to virtually banish pores while tired skin is left hydrated, firmer, and detoxified. Skins should appear brighter, fresher and younger. The product is only available in one ‘colourless’ tone, suitable for any skin colour.

GHI Expert Verdict

One tester said this product made her pores disappear ‘like magic’. Some testers said they required more of the product on areas with more visible pores, but the application was easy and it gave a smooth light texture. Some would’ve liked it to have a longer lasting effect, as they had to reapply after a few hours of wear.

Overall Score: 88/100

  • Smooth and light texture on application
  • Gives skin a smooth finish

  • One or two testers found it did not sit well on their moisturiser and ‘beads-up’
  • Testers would’ve preferred this product to include UV protection so they could use it alone

Hi everyone!

Today I’m going to do a review of the second product in this series, and it’s the Too Faced Primed and Poreless Skin Smoothing Face Primer.

I have had this primer for almost a year and hadn’t used it often until late last year. This was my first primer product and the girl at the Too Faced counter introduced me to this when I was just gawking at their beautifully packaged make up products.

As indicated on the packaging, “Use alone for the look of flawless skin or under bronzer and makeup for a perfect finish“. I did a little research and found that it contained the following ingredients:

1. Mulberry Extract & Arctostaphylos UVA URSI: Protect, brighten and lighten skin for a renewed freshness and soothing effect.

2. Retinyl Palmitate & Cyclodextrin with CAVAMAX Retinol: Restores moisture, elasticity and suppleness with a powerful combination of anti-wrinkle, youth enhancing, skincare ingredients.

3. Camellia Oil & Vitamin A: Essence of the white tea plant and the free radical fighting vitamins are nature’s most powerful antioxidants. Skin looks firmer, brighter and more resilient, even up close.

This is also vegan-friendly and paraben-free. Sounds good doesn’t it?

The primer is a nude beige colour and does not have a sheen at all. It is meant to blend right into your skin on application so it makes it perfect for all skin tones 🙂

I applied some on the back of my hand and it really becomes invisible on my skin after blending. It is not very obvious in the picture but it did make my skin look slightly smoother and covered some pores. This is a silicon-based primer that is slightly creamy in texture which makes it go on smoothly on the face.

I use this every morning and because of it’s slightly creamy texture it makes it easy to spread the product across the face. My skin is not that great and this primer alone was not enough to cover the blemishes on my face so I have never used it alone. If you have generally clear skin, this would be a great product to wear on days you wish to have light makeup on.

I wear this with my ModelCo Mineral Powder Foundation and my make up stays fresh for most part of the day. At around 5-6 hours you can see some fading of my make up but it is still visible on my face. My face also does not look oily at the end of the work day, although I’m not sure if it’s entirely due to the primer or combined effects of the primer and my mineral powder.

So what do I think of it?

Wearing this underneath my foundation indeed makes my face look more flawless and I am very satisfied with how long it locks my makeup on for. Personally, after using this I realised that I don’t really like how silicon-based primers feel on my skin, but I could overlook that seeing what this product could do for me.

This primer comes in a 28g or 1 oz tube and retails at about A$38, so it isn’t exactly cheap for the amount of product you get. I only have experience with two primers so far, the other one being my Laura Mercier Foundation Primer so I can’t say the Too Faced Primer is my favourite primer in the world.

As to whether I will repurchase after it finishes, I probably will not for the time being as I would like to try out other primers on the market. I am most likely staying away from silicon-based primers but if one day I find that cream primers do not work well on my skin, I might return to this Too Faced Primer. If you are used to silicon-based primers then I would think this is a good product to try out.

Hi beauties,

I’ve been seeing a lot of blurring and poreless type of products being talked about lately and I myself have always wanted to own one. I’ve tried the Benefit Porefessional and think it’s a great product, but I decided to go for the Primed and Poreless Skin Smoothing Primer by Too Faced because it also had great reviews online and you get more product for better value (1 oz. for $38CAD vs. 0.75 oz for $39).

I’ve always been skeptical of drugstore pore-filling products as they usually use cheap ‘filling’ ingredients that cannot be good for the skin. This product contains vitamins A and C along with anti-aging Retinol and mulberry extract. It is supposed to firm and hydrate the skin while smoothing fine lines and pores. This has a similar shade and texture as the Porefessional but is slightly less thick. As always this is a cruelty free product.

-Melts into skin, easy to apply and not sticky

-Nude skin tone blends in to skin and doesn’t tint your face

-Gives makeup a smoother finish

-My makeup has lasted noticeably longer

-Doesn’t ball up on the skin

-Expensive ($38 is a lot for most people!)

I am really enjoying this product and find it very similiar to Benefit’s Porefessional (though slightly less blurring). I’m not someone with enlarged pores but I don’t think this is a complete miracle worker as I still notice my pores a bit. I do think my makeup goes on a lot smoother lately and it lasts 12 hours no problem even without setting spray. I have dry patches and was hoping this would smooth them out but it doesn’t- screw you winter! You only need a nickle-sized amount so I think this primer last me several months, but I don’t think it’s an absolute must-buy.

Hi ladies,

The next product IMBB allowed me to purchase is Too Faced Primed and Poreless Pressed Powder. Thank you, IMBB! The reason I went for this is that the concept of a primer in pressed powder form fascinated me and I have pores (hell, yah!) and I can do anything to get rid of them. Let’s get into the review!

Price: $30
Product Description:
With just one brushstroke, pores disappear and skin glows with a stunning, soft-focus effect that can stand up to the harshest lighting. Wear our innovative, tried-and-true matte powder under foundation to prime skin, on top of makeup as a setting powder, or alone for a nearly-natural finish.
The pressed formula allows for easy application while still in the Boudoir or on-the-go. Choose which way you’ll wear our innovative matte powder: under foundation to prime the skin, on-top of makeup as a setting powder or alone for an in-the-bare smooth finish. Whichever way you choose, you’ll still banish the appearance of pores and achieve a stunning, soft-focus effect to combat any harsh lighting.

My Experience with Too Faced Primed and Poreless Pressed Powder:

Let’s start with the packaging first, as usual. Too Faced leaves no stone unturned for a sturdy and cute looking packaging and we all are very well aware of this. The pressed powder comes in a cute pink cardboard box (please ignore the de-shaped box, all credits to shipping 🙁 ) with details printed all over. Inside is the round plastic box which is shut tightly and closes with a click. It is embossed with designs across its circumference and Too Faced is embossed in the center in golden color. Flip side tells us what the product is about and other technical details.

Inside the box, there is wide pan of pressed powder and below it is the puff to apply it. For comparison, I have shown how this is exactly same in terms of size and quantity with Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer.

When it comes to the texture, the product is very finely milled. It’s absolutely white in color. I have hand swatches here to show how white it is exactly. It has no smell whatsoever unlike most Too Faced infused products.

When applied on to bare face, it makes the face look whitish and it leaves a white cast on the face with a sheen on the skin. I am afraid it doesn’t do much about pores. There is absolutely no effect if applied in a small amount and if applied a lot, you will turn into a ghost. When applied over foundation, I felt the same challenge of it being too white. As a primer, it does nothing. It can be used at the last as a final setting powder but to be applied in very less amount as it does mattify the skin.

This wasn’t an appropriate product for my skin tone and I believe it isn’t for any Indian skin tone unless you are really pale. Summing up, it’s a pretty product with minimal benefits.

Pros of Too Faced Primed and Poreless Pressed Powder:

• Beautiful packaging

Cons of Too Faced Primed and Poreless Pressed Powder:

• Does nothing for pores
• Too white for Indian skin tones
• Not a good primer
• Leaves a white sheen cast over skin
• No fragrance (may not be a con for some)

IMBB Rating:
Would I Recommend/Repurchase Too Faced Primed and Poreless Pressed Powder?
I would suggest you all to give it a pass. There are many good products in the market to experiment with in this budget; this is definitely a money waste.

There is just one thing I would never leave my house with: visible pores on my face! No matter what, I’ll not skip putting on a primer in attempt to make them invisible. It’s one of my biggest concerns and until someone comes out with some magic to make them disappear, I’ll keep continue using a primer.

Too Faced Primed & Poreless Skin Smoothing Face Primer

Too Faced Primed & Poreless performs very much like the famous Benefit POREfessional. This one comes in a pretty pink squeeze tube that’s easy to control the amount of product to dispense. It contains Vitamins A & C, Mulberry extract, and Retinol to keep your skin hydrated and firm while minimizing the appearance of pores. It has no detectable scent. The texture is lightweight and extra creamy and it spreads like silk. The color looks slightly pinky beige but it turns colorless once applied and pores become instantly less noticeable.

This stuff really works wonders and I’m not kidding! I normally apply just a tiny amount over the affected area such as on my nose and the inner cheeks. I find that by gently tapping the product into the skin (as opposed to “dragging across”) I get a better coverage. The texture of my skin becomes more smooth and even out. I can honestly say with proper application, my pores literally disappear. Unless you get really close to a mirror with a strong light shining over your face, then maybe you will still see them.

If you have really dry skin, this could ball up and make your skin flaky, though. At that point, try to exfoliate and moisturize your skin really well beforehand. If you have a pretty good skin to begin with, you can even skip foundation altogether, just apply this primer and some finishing powder and you should be all set. In my case, however, I’m suffering from a lot of red acne scars, so I’ll still need that foundation and some concealer to completely make my skin flawless.

If you think this primer alone already does a good job at smoothing out your complexion, wait until you see what it can do once you put foundation on top! I can’t even begin to describe. The best part is, it keeps your makeup looking fresh all day. I wouldn’t say it completely controls oil but it certainly keeps my skin matte longer than without.

Too Faced Primed & Poreless Skin Smoothing Face Primer; L-R: directly out of the tube, partially blended, completely blended (invisible)

Despite all the good ingredients Too Faced puts into this primer, it is still heavily loaded with silicone. So you may have to take it into consideration if you are sensitive to it. I’m acne-prone and this primer didn’t cause me any breakouts. It’s a bit more expensive than most primers on the market but considering the Retinol that has been added to the product and what it can really do to transform your skin, the price is quite reasonable in my opinion. I am totally in love and am not hesitating to recommend it to anyone!

I have tried Primed&Poreless a while ago as soon as it was released. It was great addition to Too faced line and one of the best selling primers at the moment.

It does really good job in instantly filling in pores and smoothing superficial wrinkles thanks to formula loaded in silicone. I know a lot of consumers out there try to avoid silicone but it’s the only and main ingredient that actually visually smooths the skin and preps it for other face products. Lately there have been a lot of newly released primers without silicone that are great and hold makeup on longer but they do not make skin as smooth as the ones with silicone. So if you are lucky and don’t have skin sensitive to it or you do not brake out, I suggest getting primer with silicone.

Texture is really tick and you need a pea size for the whole face. This primer is advertised that it can be worn before foundation or before bronzer. What sets it apart from other primers is that it has slight tint to it, it’s not completely clear. It has light beige color but when you apply it honestly it just blends into your skin color. Does not stand out nor it gives any coverage. I would say it just slightly evens out your skin’s color and texture. I am not sure how it would perform on darker skin tones because it might appear ashy.
Even though texture is thick it dries fast into matte finish. I think it would work for any skin type but do not expect any crazy matte oil absorbing action.

My experience is that it works great with wide range of liquid and powder foundation as well with tinted moisturizers or just on it’s own with light powder dusting on top. It does create perfect canvas. Does not require any tools or special application. I always apply it with my fingers. Make sure not to overdo it, less is more and blend fast before it dries.

Too faced claims a lot on the skincare part that honestly I can say anything about that because I have never worn it on daily basis. I have been switching between primers. And I never rely on skin improving promises from the makeup products.

Another plus is that it does not have strong scent or barely any, so if you are sensitive and can’t use highly fragranced products Primed and Poreless would be a good choice for you.

Price is decent too, I would say mid range. You get 1 oz for 30$. Not bad but for the same amount of money you can get 1.7 oz in Laura Mercier primer (although completely different texture).

I wanted to show you the actual color of primer right out of the tube, lightly blended and completely blended on skin.

Overall : I think Too faced did really good job with Primed and Poreless. Great addition to their line, could be staple in makeup kit of any Too faced fan.
