Emma (a la actresses Emma Stone, Emma Roberts and Emma Watson) has proven once again to be the top baby name for girls in the United States, where it’s safely been for the past five years.
The Social Security Administration released the top baby names for 2018 and for girls, Emma, Olivia and Ava sat in the top three spots. For the top three most popular baby boy names, Liam, Noah and William grabbed the top three spots respectively.

Emma means “whole” or “universal.” It was introduced to England by Emma of Normandy, who was the wife both of King Ethelred II and later of King Canute. Liam means “strong willed warrior” and “protector.” It’s the shortened version of “William.”
New on the top 10 list in 2018 is the girls’ name Harper, which pushed Abigail to the 11th spot. And Lucas (number 8 in popularity) pushed out the name Jacob. This is the first year that Lucas has appeared in the top 10 list.

Another name that rose in popularity in 2018? Meghan went from 1,404th most popular baby name in 2017 to the 703rd spot in 2018. Perhaps we can look to Duchess Meghan to thank for the reemergence of the moniker. In 2017, the former Meghan Markle married Prince Harry. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex just welcomed their first baby, Archie, on May 6.

Real talk: being on top isn’t always as easy as it looks. Sure, the old adage that being on top leads to a chance of a better orgasm is def incentive, but sometimes you’re just shy! If you’re having trouble feeling confident when you’re on top during sex, don’t sweat it.
Here, sex experts and educators share their top tips for mastering this position without breaking a sweat.
1. How do I get over any insecurity about my looks while on top?
Luckily, this one is all mental. “We tend to have an idea from porn that we need to be sitting straight up for his visual pleasure, and that we need to have a perfect body to do so,” says Lynn Wolfbrandt, sexuality coach who specializes in female sexuality. In reality, if you’re having sex with a man, “it’s 99% guaranteed that he’s having an amazing time, no matter what you’re doing,” says Wolfbrandt.
“It’s 99% guaranteed that he’s having an amazing time, no matter what you’re doing”
Tap into your inner diva and make the moment all about you and your pleasure. You know how dudes won’t realize you cut 10 inches off your hair for weeks until you literally bring up the fact that you did so? There’s your proof that he won’t be criticizing your body or anything to the degree you worry about.
If you wanna take a mental break and step away from the showgirl spotlight for a mo’, you can also try getting on top while belly-to-belly, or even close your legs and squeeze to get more clitoral pleasure, adds Wolfbrandt.
2. How do I get into the position?
Wondering how to segue gracefully over your partner’s body? “Begin by kneeling over your partner and gently lower yourself down,” explains Antonia Hall, sex and relationship expert and author of The Ultimate Guide to a Multi-Orgasmic Life. “From there, it’s easy to bounce up and down or rock your hips, adjusting your angle to stimulate your clitoris,” she adds. You can also try squatting with your feet flat. You’ll need more balance, but it opens your hips for deeper penetration.
3. What do I hold onto during woman-on-top?
The answer: Build a sex fort. Okay not really, but it’s totally cool to call in for furniture backup if you need. “Don’t be shy to use props especially if you have short legs or need extra support through the pelvic floor,” says Fiona Gilbert, sexual wellness consultant. Folded towels, yoga bricks, pillows, sex furniture, are all your friends here.
4. Why do people always say being on top is better for women, anyway?
“You have more control over the speed, angle, and intensity, so it makes it easier to keep it at a rhythm that’s really doing it for you. Your vulva and clitoris are also very accessible, and the vast majority of women find intercourse much more pleasurable if they are also stroking or being stroked in this area,” Layla Martin, sexpert extraordinaire and author of Wild Woman in the Bedroom, explains. And then there’s also the mental element of control: Taking the reins and doing things exactly 👏how 👏you 👏want 👏 can feel beyond hot.
5. OK, but what can you try if you’re having trouble getting the right angle when you’re on top?
Yes, in theory it makes sense that being on top lets your clit get more stimulation, but if that angle just isn’t happening for you, you’ve got options. To find that sweet spot, Martin suggests moving your body forward and back very slowly, and left to right, to see if you can notice and slight differences in sensation. Basically, troubleshoot!
Too deep? No problem. “If you are uncomfortable because the penetration feels too deep, you can try lying forward and propping yourself up on your hands or forearms almost like you are in a missionary position,” Martin offers. And don’t get discouraged if you don’t get there right away. “The key is to not get caught up thinking it’s not working and you need to fix it, but to focus instead on sensually discovering the spot that holds the greatest pleasure for you.”
6. How do you figure out how to move your body?
Once you’ve found the perfect angle, you can still get bogged down on how to move, especially if you think you have to be a dancer or someone with impeccable natural rhythm in order to nail it. But all you need is practice: Hall suggests starting by making small, slow adjustments to your hips or body until you hit that sweet spot.
“You can use your leg muscles and core to move up and down, then carefully lean forward or back to bring things into alignment,” Hall says.”Your hands can go on the bed for support and balance as you move into positions that feel great for you, and what feels good often changes, so you should feel comfortable adjusting as desired.”
7. What can I try if I just get really tired really quickly when I’m on top?
It’s no surprise that being on top exerts a liiiiiiittle more energy than just lying there and noticing all the cracks in your ceiling. Martin counsels that you can always slow way down but adds, “The biggest thing is to remember to breathe. If you’ve ever done intensive workouts, you can go much farther and longer if you breathe deeply. This will seem totally natural since people tend to breathe much more intensively during sex.” Deep inhales and exhales can help you focus on sensation and not become exhausted so quickly.
But you can also let your partner take over for a bit. “Sex is a dance,” Halls says. And your partner is probably going to move their hips a little too, because it feels amazing. She also recommends leaning forward so you’re lying on top of your partner in a sort-of missionary pose to ease the strain (and signal to them that they can contribute to the thrusting as well).
8. Are there any workouts you can do to make on-top sex better for you?
“Great sexual stamina comes from strength in your large muscle groups and a good cardio routine,” Hall says. “Working on your legs and core will really help in the bedroom. I also always advise doing Kegels, which will help strengthen your pelvic muscles, which means bigger, better orgasms.”
9. Are there any variations of the traditional “on top of my partner, facing them” position? And WTF are they?
You’ve got other choices! For one, you can swing your way into reverse cowgirl, which Martin suggests can be “hugely liberating.” This is basically staying on top of the penis, but leaning on your forearms, or sitting up, facing his toes instead of his face.
BUT THERE’S MORE! “There is an advanced position where you are facing forward and you lean to one side, and place that hand down to support yourself and give your pelvis a light lift. The extra support and slight lift of your pelvis means you can undulate up and down with more range in your pelvis, and this can be super erotic,” Martin explains.
10. What are some good toys to add to woman-on-top sex?
Many women can’t orgasm with P-in-V sex alone, so it can be good to throw in an accessory. Hall says this is a great position for incorporating vibrators, and recommends a handheld clitoral stimulator like the Clandestine Mimic, a couples vibrator like the We-Vibe Sync, or a vibrating cock ring like the Tenga SVR.
Clandestine Mimic by Clandestine Amazon $110.00 We-Vibe We-Vibe Sync Adjustable Couples Vibrator Amazon $189.05 Tenga Tenga SVR Cock Ring Babeland $80.00
11. Is there any way you could hurt yourselves with on-top sex?
Woman-on-top sex is actually the most common position for penile fracturing, but it’s still not insanely common or easy to do. The main thing to do, according to Hall, is ease into things slowly every time, because you can injure your partner if you lean in a way that bends their penis uncomfortably, or bounce up and down so quickly that you fall on a bad angle and hurt or even break their penis.
12. What if I can’t relax?
There are tons of other benefits to getting on top that you might not have realized. “Sex is very psychological, and for women to experience their deepest orgasms, there are parts of their brain that need to go silent that have to do with judgement and control,” says Martin. When you’re on your back, you might actually be more caught up in your head but when you’re on top, you’re forced to concentrate more on the physical act, which can help you really let go.

Many men report that their favorite sex position is girl on top. We’ve previously recommended this position because it’s good for G-spot stimulation. But girl on top is one that makes many of our readers feel self-conscious. If you want to know how you can feel more confident and get more out of girl on top sex, this is the one post you have to read!

When you’re feeling nervous about girl on top, remember these things.
1. Every Woman Doubts Herself
Remember that the anxiety you feel about being on top, stripping out of your clothes or even being that vulnerable with another person is universal for women. You might look at another woman whom you think is prettier, thinner, taller, curvier and so on & so forth and think she has no issues with her own body or skills, but you’d be dead wrong! In fact, many men share those same insecurities!
Perhaps that’s why so many people experience sexual anxiety, especially before their first time or the first time engaging in sexual activities with a new partner. If you feel your partner is out of your league, those insecurities may only be highlighted even more. Fortunately, we’ve got the definitive guide to getting over your sexual anxieties. And we’ve got great advice targeted toward feeling more sexually confident, especially when it comes to a girl on top position.
2. Love Your Body
Start hacking away at those insecurities by doing little things to boost your confidence in your looks and abilities, even if it’s not directly related to sex. Because so many of these insecurities relate to body image, do things to make yourself feel attractive. Go shopping and buy some new makeup, shoes or clothing. Perhaps a sexy pair of heels you can leave on when you’re riding him?
If you want to give your man back-arching, toe-curling, screaming orgasms that will keep him sexually obsessed with you, then you can learn these sex techniques in my private and discreet newsletter. You’ll also learn the 5 dangerous mistakes that will ruin your sex life and relationship. Get it here.
Exercise, but not because there’s only one acceptable body type. The endorphins feel great, and you’ll be reminded of your body’s power. If you’re worried about not being strong enough for girl on top positions, you can strengthen your arms and legs. Eat well because it helps you to feel better.
Stop by a lingerie store to buy something specific to wear during sexy times and when your man requests a girl on top position. This article has plenty of advice for buying the right pieces to flatter your body. Top the bag off with a bow and even give it to him as a surprise!
One thing you might consider is boudoir photography. Hire a reputable photographer to take sensual photos of you in various states of undress. Not only does this make a great gift for your man, but you’ll likely get a boost in confidence and have fun while you do it. The women of Bustle all discovered this when they tried boudoir photography – complete with professorial styling – for the first time! Watch their video to see the translation!
You can shoot your own sexy photos or record yourself having sex, too. It’s cheaper on the budget, and you won’t have to strip in front of a stranger.
Don’t just cover up your natural body and self, however. Take some time to look in the mirror, but make sure your gaze isn’t harsh. Look at yourself the way a stranger – an appreciative one, at that – might look at you. Run your hands across your body. Perhaps masturbate and revel in everything your body is capable of – giving and receiving pleasure, conceiving life, feeding and comforting your children, swimming or playing sports. The list goes on.
Yours is a real body, and the only one you’ve got, so you should appreciate it. We know your man does! Remember that celebrities, even the ones you admire, have similar body issues. Almost all the images you see of them in magazines have been altered. Clothing is pinned. Makeup is professional. Professional lighting was set up. Images and video were edited to perfection.
In fact, some of the women considered the sexiest by society don’t even recognize themselves after all that processing! That’s because an entire beauty and fitness industry exists around making us feel not good enough!
Furthermore, you needn’t compare yourself to women who have professional trainers and makeup artists. Spend more time looking at real woman. Think of marketing campaigns by companies like Dove and Lane Bryant. Pay attention to other women at the gym or in church. They’re tall and short, curvy and thin and far more varied than any TV show cast. Chances are, you’ll feel better after remembering what women, including yourself, really look like.
Take The Quiz: Do I Give Good (or BAD) Blow Jobs?
While everyone worries about their lumps, bumps, scars, cellulite and other quirks, curvy and heavier women are especially worried when it comes to being on top of their man during sex. Rest assured that no matter how thin your man is, you will never crush or break him. Besides, you can rest more of your weight on your legs and thighs straddling him than you do his body.
3. Know Your Worth
There’s no reason to stop at your body, however. You’ve got a personality and a mind, and your body is only a vessel. Your skills and talents are uniquely yours. There’s no one else like you, and that’s why your man chose you. Whenever you need a confidence boost, remind yourself of what you do right and what only you can do. You’ll be creating a list of positives that you can tap into any time you experience a negative thought.
Give yourself a pep talk in the mirror before you enter the bedroom. You’re gorgeous and sexy. You’re smart and capable. You’re the best you anyone can be!
4. Feel the Power
Let’s get down to how to feel more confident sexually. Perhaps it’s your first time with a new partner or you want to surprise him with some new moves. It’s understandable that girl on top can be nerve wracking! You might consider a glass of wine to take the edge off those nerves, but that’s completely up to you.
Being on top might feed into your desire to dominate your man. If you’d like, try scratching or biting his chest while you’re on top to help fulfill that sexual fantasy. Try out a few role play scenarios where you have power.
Another way you can dominate your man – there are many more ideas in this post – is with a blindfold. If your major cause of sexual anxiety when you straddle your man is how you look, you can cover his eyes. Then, you won’t have to worry about what it might look like. These sort of light BDSM elements aren’t for everyone, even though they can be quite fun.
Remember, too, that your man has his own insecurities, and he’s most likely focusing on them with the same attention you dedicate to your own flaws. Now, if you’re thinking “That’s crazy! My man is totally hot, and I love him!” then you’ve just hit on the very same thoughts your man likely has when he’s having sex with you!
The very things that you might see as flaws, he might see as character, setting you apart from every other woman. He may be attracted to other women – we’re all attracted to all sorts of people – and he may have been with other women, but he’s choosing to be with you right now. This is important to keep in mind to feel secure both when it comes to sex and girl on top position and when it comes to your relationship in general.
5. Act the Part
Confidence is one thing that everyone finds sexy, so acting confident, even if you’re not feeling it 100%, will only encourage your man’s animal side. It’ll also make it easier to talk to guys you like. Tips on talking to guysddd here.
If you’re having a little trouble acting the part, emulate how a confident woman (Scarlett Johansson, anyone?) whom you find sexy would act. Perhaps craft an alter ego for yourself and get into that head space when it’s time for woman on top sex. Would your Sasha Fierce be intimidated by a sex position? Doubtful!
6. Please Yourself First
You should also focus on your own pleasure. When you’re on top, it’s time to get yours. You know your partner is going to get off, but you can rub your your clitoris or grind it against his knuckles if he wraps his fingers around the base of his penis like Spock’s “Live Long and Prosper” motion. In short, focus on what it feels like and not what it looks like.
If you’re having trouble feeling sexy about yourself when it comes to girl on top position, think about how the situation can be sexy. For example, when you’re on top, you get more control of depth, angle and speed. This means you’re more likely to get the stimulation you need to orgasm. And we can just about guarantee your man finds your pleasure sexy as can be!
7. Atmosphere Matters
If you’re not into blindfolds, you can just dim the lights or toss a colored scarf over a lamp. Not only does this create a nice ambiance, but this can help to cut harsh glares from your light source that may not be flattering. You might remember an episode of Seinfeld in which Jerry dates a woman who looks stunning in some light but absolutely horrid in others. Although the plot was ridiculously exaggerated, there’s a bit of truth in it. A softer, natural bulb is more flattering than harsh fluorescent light.
Another thing to try is sexy music. Check out this post and this list for song suggestions. Music adds to the atmosphere, and the right song can make you feel like a sexy rock star. Having something to listen to can also make you feel better about positions such as cowgirl because there’s more stimulus in the room for your man to focus on. You can always take it further and perform a slow strip tease to a song before pushing your man back on the bed and having your way with him!
8. Ground Yourself
Any time you feel yourself slipping out of he moment and heading back to the place where you overthink, ground yourself. Pick out the things you can hear, see, taste, touch and smell. Breathe slowly and imagine those breaths moving throughout your body like energy. Visualize exchanging that energy with your partner. It’s a surefire way to get back in touch with your pleasure and the moment. Plus, you’re that much closer to Tantric sex. More on that here.
9. Practice the Skills
Not everything is about body image, however. You might have some hangups about your skills as a sexual partner. Remember that sexual skills aren’t innate. They’re learned. And they’re practiced. Those skills certainly don’t have to look anything like they do in porn, either. Sure, it might look good when a porn starlet bounces on her partner’s dick like crazy, but does it really feel good for either of them?
There are a couple options when it comes to technique. You can place your feet flat on the bed or surface beneath you and push or bounce up and down, but that’s pretty strenuous (and boring, if you ask us). A better option is to rock your hips forward and back. This movement emulates thrusting in a gentler way, which may help alleviate pain due to a sensitive cervix, which is more likely around the time of your period.
Next, try side to side movements. Perhaps you’ll find this is good for your G-spot. See how you like it when you rotate your hips in a circle, and pay attention to your man’s response, too! You might like forward-and-back movements better when you’re facing your man in regular cowgirl. For reserve cowgirl, you might prefer a different movement because of the angle. Read our posts here and here to get more specifics about technique.
You don’t have to do all the work, either. He can still thrust from underneath you. You can also try lying down on him to give your body a rest. The perk of altering girl on top positions like this is that you can hide your tummy if it’s your problem area.
10. Don’t Give Up
Feeling confident during sex in any woman on top position is a journey. For some women, it takes less time than it does for others. You might make great strides and find yourself stepping back a few paces. This is common, for example, after a woman has found out her partner has cheated on her (check out other thoughts a woman has after cheating).
You might fight several battles of self confidence a day, and it’s likely to be difficult at first. After all, judging yourself harshly is a habit you’ve honed!
So practice being bold, confident and kind to yourself. Smile and jump on the bull – or man! – like you were born to do it. You know the old saying about how you have to fake it until you make it? Confidence is one of the areas where that is true, and it’s especially true with confidence in the bedroom!
Practice makes perfect in this as in all things. Or it might be better to say that practicing loving yourself and having confidence will show you that perfection is neither obtainable nor desirable. You’re fantastic the way you are, and your partners should agree! If there’s a man who doesn’t, you don’t need to waste your time on him.

Was there a better decade than the ’90s? For those of us who were tweens and teens back then, the answer is … AS IF!
If you proudly sported pencil-thin brows and brown lipstick, rocked out to Tupac and Biggie and Hootie and Bush, believed that thick-soled shoes were the best shoes, and amassed butterfly clips like currency, you know that the ’90s were a fun time to grow up.
This collection of baby names pays homage to some of the things that made the ’90s iconic, so you can bring a little piece of that era to a whole new generation.
Think back to when catalogs were a thing — and then think back to when it was the dELiA*s catalog, and you pored over it circling all the wide leg jeans and baby tees and yin-yang necklaces.

She was one of the aforementioned singers who we’ve all bellowed at the top of our lungs at least a few times, but she’s in a category all her own — because gemstone names are on the rise, and Jewel kinda encompasses them all.
Between “Oregon Trail” and the Internet, there was “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” We spent hours in front of those boxy computer monitors helping the super-sleuth track down the thieving members of V.I.L.E.
And that sleek red trench coat and matching fedora? GOALS.
This wasn’t just the name of a character from “Friends” — it was the quintessential haircut of the decade. I mean, if you didn’t sport “the Rachel” at some point, were you even a ’90s chick?
People might think you’re naming your child Heaven because she’s a little angel, but if you’re ’90s-nostalgic, you’re naming her after one of The Gap’s signature fragrances that every girl of the decade smelled like. (I’d still wear it, TBH.)
If Heaven isn’t your idea of a good name, why not one of the other Gap scents: Dream? As a name, it’s on the up-and-up, thanks to Rob Kardashian’s daughter.
Back in the ’90s, Clarissa Darling was “explaining it all” from her quirky teen bedroom, in her fabulously funky wardrobe that we all wanted to copy.
Anyone from an older generation will automatically think of the one-named singer. But ’90s kids think of Cher Horowitz, the superficial it-girl turned catalyst for social change in the movie Clueless. There are other good names from the movie too: Tai! Dionne! Elton! Christian!
If you paid attention to any headlines in 1996 (or were forced to pay attention by your parents and teachers, let’s be real), you might remember Dolly: a sheep, and the first mammal to be cloned. Yay for ’90s-era scientific breakthroughs!
Psst … even if you’re not keen on naming your kid after a sheep, there’s always Dolly Parton as a namesake, and she was iconic in the ’90s too. But then, when wasn’t she iconic?
As real as an MTV-animated high school girl could get, Daria Morgendorffer (and her bestie Jane Lane) appealed to the smart, cynical, sarcastic parts of us all.
This name might just be the most laden with ’90s nostalgia. Not only does it bring to mind sports legend Michael Jordan, who dominated basketball for a decade and then casually switched to baseball (because why not rule at both sports?) — it brings to mind the Air Jordans named after him that everybody wanted (you know, along with Reebok Pumps).
And of course, we’d be remiss not to mention another ’90s Jordan: the dreamy Jordan Catalano from “My So-Called Life,” who basically made Jared Leto a household name.
Speaking of dreamy ’90s dudes, helloooo Leonardo DiCaprio! From his days on “Growing Pains” to wooing Claire Danes in Romeo + Juliet to playing Jack Dawson in Titanic, his photo was plastered on the wall of many a teen girl (thanks, Tiger Beat).

And speaking of Dawsons … you probably followed the late-’90s adventures of Dawson, Joey, Pacey and the crew as they navigated the growing pains of transitioning from high school to college on “Dawson’s Creek.”
Though this name is typically spelled “Martin,” you can’t pay homage to your fave decade without spelling it “Marten”: just like the footwear brand that made the combat boots we all wanted to wear with our floral baby-doll dresses. Oh, and chokers, naturally.

Does this really need an explanation? Kurt Cobain defined ’90s grunge, and his death in 1994 left a hole in the hearts of anyone who ever rocked out to Nirvana’s garage-band sound. If you want a less obvious tribute, you could use the cute nickname Coby — or just go with the more-traditional Kurt.
There isn’t much more of an iconic ’90s brand than Tommy Hilfiger. Kate Moss wore it down the runway; Britney Spears rocked Tommy overalls on her tour; and Aaliyah was in their ads, sporting that tube top.
You might’ve played “Madden NFL” on whatever game console you had during the ’90s, but my personal favorite Madden is the Steve Madden variety — the man responsible for those stretchy platform slides we all adored. Can’t you just hear the fwap, fwap, fwap of those big-ass soles as they slapped against your heels with every step? Ahhh.
Even if you didn’t grow up in the thick of the ’90s, you’ve gotta admit: These baby names are still all that and a bag of chips.
… Or whatever the kids are saying these days.

While many of the popular ’90s names are enduring, there are tons that aren’t quite as popular anymore. If you’re looking for a baby name that’s a little unique, consider using a ’90s name that’s no longer quite as widespread, like Hunter or Kayla.
