The best of intentions

“Best Of Intentions” lyrics

I had big plans for our future,
Said I’d give you the whole world somehow
I tried makin’ good on that promise,
Thought I’d be so much further by now
Never could build you a castle,
Even though you’re the queen of my heart
But I’ve had the best of intentions from the start
Now some people think I’m a loser,
Cause I seldom get things right
But you make me feel like a winner,
When you wrap me in your arms so tight
Please tell me you will remember,
No matter how much I do wrong
That I had the best of intentions all along

I’d gave you a ring, and I promised you things
I always thought we’d do
But my best-laid plans slipped right through my hands
to show my love for you.
And if you could read my heart,
then you’d know without exception
It was all with the best of_ intentions

So here I am asking forgiveness,
and praying that you’ll understand
Don’t think I take you for granted,
girl I know just how lucky I am
Though you deserve so much better,
you won’t find devotion more true
Cause I’ve had the best of intentions
Girl I’ve had the best of intentions,
Yes, I’ve had the best of intentions
loving you

Letra “Best Of Intentions” de Travis Tritt

I had big plans for our future
Said I’d give you the whole world somehow
I tried makin’ good on that promise
Thought I’d be so much further by now
Never could build you a castle
Even though you’re the queen of my heart
But I’ve had the best of intentions from the start

Now some people think I’m a loser
‘Cause I seldom get things right
But you make me feel like a winner
When you wrap me in your arms so tight
Please tell me you will remember
No matter how much I do wrong
That I had the best of intentions all along

I gave you a ring
And I promised you things
I always thought we’d do
But my best-laid plans
Slipped right through my hands
To show my love for you
And if you could read my heart
Then you’d know without exception
It was all with the best of intentions

I gave you a ring
And I promised you things
I always thought we’d do
But my best-laid plans
Slipped right through my hands
To show my love for you
And if you could read my heart
Then you’d know without exception
It was all with the best of intentions

So here I am asking forgiveness
And praying that you’ll understand
Don’t think I take you for granted
Girl, I know just how lucky I am
Though you deserve so much better
You won’t find devotion more true
‘Cause I’ve had the best of intentions
Girl, I’ve had the best of intentions
Yes, I’ve had the best of intentions loving you

There is this song from Travis Tritt called Best of Intentions. The video features a man in prison whose wife stands bravely by his side. It is an anthem of sorts about a bad boy who was either wronged, done wrong, or simply misunderstood. Either way, the torch song promises that despite having royally messed up, he really loves her and wants to do right.

So here I am asking forgiveness, and praying that you understand
Don t think I take you for granted, girl I know just how lucky I am
Though you deserve so much better, you won t find devotion more true, For I had the best of intentions, loving you.

Many women, from the comments I have read about this song, find this pretty romantic. Call me jaded, but I find it a ton of crap.

Good intentions are simply not enough. I am not saying that Rex cannot ever make a mistake. If you have read my columns, you know that I am not about seeking perfection in my husband. But with the world being insane enough, I simply could not tolerate a man who intended to put me on a pedestal but somehow forgot and treated me like a doormat. And worse, I would hate to romanticize it.

Another song that has always bugged me is Willie Nelson s, “Always on My Mind.” Little things I should have said and done… I just never took the time… but you were always on my mind. Huh?

Let me get this straight. The guy from this song ignored his woman, admits to not treating her very nicely, and yet tries to make her swoon with what’s on his brain – his most likely alcohol soaked, weed altered, brain? I am thinking, like driving drunk, that is a recipe for crashing and burning.

I wonder why women insist on supporting men who do not support them, both financially and emotionally? Do I sound like an old biddy? Perhaps. But I have a daughter. And while I would want her to be understanding of her husband s failings, I hope she never ends up with someone who, like Tritts song, gives her a ring and promises her things he always thought he d do… But my best laid plans slipped right through my hands to show my love for you.

That would kill me. And so, I am asking you, is there some sexy chip I’m missing? Are songs like these really romantic? And seriously, no offense to Travis Tritt or Willie. I love their stuff. But these two songs just really irk me. Maybe in my past life I was knocked up by a felon and left on a farm to raise my six kids alone. I’m not sure. But if you are one of those women, I sure hope you demand some more for your life. After all, life is short. You deserve more than good intentions. In fact, some securitiy and confidence is worth ten orgasms any day of the week.

Anyone agree with me? Disagree? Let’s hear it!
