Tarte creamy lip paint swatches

Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint ($20) is a new permanent 14 shade selection of liquid lipsticks that launched with the Tarte Spring 2016 Collection. Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint is kinda getting mixed reviews but I have to admit to loving them. These aren’t your traditional wear all day liquid lipsticks which I’m perfectly fine with. I’m a little scared of long wearing liquid lipsticks to be honest!

If I’m eating I’m perfectly fine if my lip color wipes away as it is easy enough to retouch it. Wearing the same lip product for eight or more hours straight kinda freaks me out as it likely won’t remain completely perfect all day and it’ll be difficult to touch up without completely removing it first which will be difficult to do without eye and lip makeup remover. I also happen to have drier lips so yeah, I’m ok with a liquid lipstick that isn’t completely bulletproof.

Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint are a super pigmented matte liquid lipstick however, they do promise long wear which they don’t completely deliver on so if you’re expecting 8 or even 12 hours of wear this might not be a pick for you! But if you’re ok with around five to six hours of wear, well dive in!

Tarte houses these in simple, basic packaging with a black top and gold lettering but the bright shades really shine through here and make the simple packaging look rather extraordinary against the backdrop of gorgeous, super pigmented shades. Each lipstick is 0.01 oz in size and has a sponge applicator for application. A few of the tubes I had issues with as I had an overflow of product over the top at times because the sponge does saturate quite a good deal with the lipstick. Many people complained about the formula being too gloopy and this does lead to some mess around the top of the tube at times so just beware.

I thought the formula was ultra creamy and almost whipped in consistency. It’s quite concentrated a little goes a very long way to create a gorgeous matte finish on lips with full, opaque color on a single layer. All the shades I tried provided intense, bright, bold color pay off. Although thick the formula thins out during application considerably and almost looks like a stain. They feel very lightweight on my lips and although they were not moisturizing, they also weren’t drying on my lips but they never quite set so they do tend to transfer if you’re drinking or sipping from a straw. They didn’t migrate though or feather plus they never set to a super dry finish which can cause flakiness. I’m actually fine with this as touch up is a lot easier with a product you can layer and build easily with or just wipe off and reapply unlike super long wearing liquid lipsticks that isn’t as easy to remove or build upon. They do have a minty flavor and fragrance which I thought was pleasant and did not irritate my lips in anyway.

So no, Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint aren’t going to get you 24 hours of wear. But yes, Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint are pigmented, comfortable to wear, easy to apply, and wear for several hours without fading or drying out so I’m perfectly happy with that. I’m not looking for a long wearing bulletproof liquid lipstick so this formula works out great for me. They are gorgeously pigmented, don’t dry my already dry lips out, and they look smooth, even and gorgeous on my lips.

Matte liquid lipsticks were hugely popular in 2016 and the trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Just about every brand has their own line of liquid lipsticks and I’ve reviewed lots of them in the past. So today I wanted to share with you the relatively new Tarte Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Paint ($26 CAD) matte liquid lipsticks. The line has quite a wide array of neutral “my lips but better” shades and I have ten of them swatched for you today. To check them out, click…….

Packaging:
The Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint comes in a lip gloss tube embossed with shiny gold designs. The matte black cap is equipped with a doe-foot applicator. The tip of the doe-foot has a small reservoir that helps pick up extra product and while the applicator is fairly precise, I would still recommend using a lip brush with some of the bolder shades to ensure a perfect application.

Formulation:
With a fairly runny but still smooth and creamy formulation, the Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint are liquid lipsticks that set to a completely matte and transfer-proof finish. The formulation has a soft chemical smell (nothing too unpleasant, though) and it sets very quickly. The majority of the shades are very pigmented, thus providing a full coverage with just one swipe. Below I have a breakdown of all the shades but this collection is quite heavy on the more neutral tones. A few of them are almost identical to each other, making me wish that there were a wider range of shades.
As mentioned, the lip colors are transfer-proof but they will fade and flake if you eat greasy food or drinks. The formulation is right on par with that of the Stila and Kat Von D liquid lipsticks, with the Tarteist Lip Paints being slightly runnier than Stila and slightly more viscous than Kat Von D. I did not notice a difference with the wear time or the pigmentation level. All in all, these are a great and I would definitely recommend checking them out if you are a fan of the more neutral everyday shades!
Acid Wash: This is a very deep burgundy with a slightly patchy formulation. I needed to re-coat a couple of spots to ensure a mostly opaque finish.

Killin’ it: A deep rose brown, Killin’ it is very smooth and pigmented. This color is quite unique as well; it’s slightly deeper than your everyday generic rose brown yet it’s not so dark that it’s difficult to pull off.

XOXO: One of my favorite out of the bunch, XOXO is an interesting medium red with just a hint of burnt orange. The formulation is very pigmented and even.

Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint | XOXO

Vibin: This is a brick red with a pigmented formulation. The color is not my favorite out of the bunch but I can see it wearing very well on a darker skin tone.

Fortune: Soft nude taupe cream, Fortune is slightly patchy as you can see from the swatches below. Nevertheless, I was quite happy with the coverage given how it is a lighter shade.

Bling: Perhaps my favorite shade out of the bunch, Bling is a mauve-y rose neutral. The formulation is a dream and I just find the color to be so flattering!

Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint | Bling

Bounce: A pinker and lighter version of the previous shade Bling, Bounce still retains wearability as it’s not too pale or bubblegum-pink. The formulation is very pigmented so you get a great application.

Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint | Bounce

Front Row: A smoky peach nude, Front Row is almost identical to the next shade Delish. The formulation again is very pigmented; I was able to get a full coverage with just one swipe. The shade reminds me a bit of a mix of Lolita I and Lolita II from Kat Von D, and you can find swatches of those here.

Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint | Front Row

Delish: A paler and less orange version of Front Row, Delish is a soft peach nude. The formulation is smooth and even.

Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint | Delish

Get It: Perhaps my least favorite shade out of the bunch, Get It is a very pale peach nude. I find the color to be way too yellow and pastel, which ends up making the complexion look sallow. With that said, the formulation is pigmented and opaque.

Below is a collage of all ten shades I’ve reviewed here. My picks are Killin’ it, XOXO, and Bling. Overall, all of the shades except for Acid Wash are very pigmented with a smooth and opaque coverage.
