‘Rockabye’: The Story Behind Clean Bandit & Sean Paul’s Socially Conscious Dance Smash

Dancehall king Sean Paul returned to No. 1 on Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” in 2016, while British group Clean Bandit stormed America with 2014’s “Rather Be.” But Paul admits he didn’t think “Rockabye” would be a hit: “I loved the song, but wasn’t sure how far it would go.”

An ode to single mothers, “Rockabye” is “about doing anything you can to give your child a decent life,” says Clean Bandit’s Grace Chatto. Co-writer Ina Wroldsen penned the lyrics with her son in mind; its video follows an exotic dancer trying to make ends meet.

Anne-Marie enjoyed a U.K. hit in 2016 with “Alarm,” but most U.S. listeners are hearing her for the first time. The 25-year-old’s biggest thrill? Hearing Paul say her name at the start of the song. “I was going to set it as my ringtone,” she says.

“Rockabye” has 230 million Spotify streams since October 2016, and gives Clean Bandit its second top 40 hit. “People are hearing the message,” says Anne-Marie, “bigging up single moms, saying they’re doing a great job — and to keep going.”

Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions by Justin Timberlake might just be the hottest album drop of the summer — if you’re asking 2-year-olds, that is.

With a track list that includes calm, instrumental versions of Timberlake’s latest and greatest hits (think “Mirrors,” “Rock Your Body” and “Can’t Stop The Feeling!”), this new album might just land him in baby whisperer territory. Hey, if a serene rendition of “Señorita” puts the kiddos to sleep without parents having to resort to bribery or sneak escapes, we’re pretty sure this one’s going platinum — which is pretty cool for a record that, at least from what we can tell, features a glockenspiel as its main instrument. Here’s the full track list, so you can prepare yourselves:

We have Rockabye Baby, the award-winning kids’ music company that transforms favorites from all genres into eye-droop-inducing songs, to thank for Timberlake’s lullaby makeover. The company boasts an impressive nighttime record list — from Beyoncé to Adele, to Bowie and Bruce Springsteen, plenty of celebs have had their greatest hits remastered into contemporary nursery songs (which you can buy on vinyl, if that’s your thing!). It’s a genius idea — not to mention, it bails out adults when they’re asked to sing “Twinkle, Twinkle” again. And then again.

These 2 angels… The greatest gift I’ve ever known. And, the reason I won’t EVER STOP! Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there! Hope you are enjoying! #Howearlyistooearlyforafathersdaybeer

While Justin Timberlake’s decision to frost his hair in the late ’90s didn’t make a lot of sense, his choice to allow Rockabye Baby to turn his upbeat pop songs into sleepy-time tunes is pretty fitting. He and his wife, Jessica Biel, became parents to their son, Silas, in 2015 — and you know what they say about art mimicking life!

Rockabye Baby! Lullaby Renditions by Justin Timberlake won’t be officially released until August 18, but if you literally can’t wait to hear what a tranquil, baby form of “Sexy Back” sounds like, you can preview and pre-order the album on Amazon for $16.

Justin Timberlake – A Special Christmas Box Lyrics

Hey girl I got somethin’ real important to give you
So just sit down and listen
Girl you know we’ve been together such a long long time (such a long time)
And now I’m ready to lay it on the line
(Wooow) You know it’s Christmas and my heart is open wide
Gonna give you something so you know what’s on my mind
A gift real special, so take off the top
Take a look inside — it’s my dick in a box
Not gonna get you a diamond ring
That sort of gift don’t mean anything
Not gonna get you a fancy car
Girl ya gotta know you’re my shining star
Not gonna get you a house in the hills
A girl like you needs somethin’ real
Wanna get you somethin’ from the heart
Somethin’ special girl
It’s my dick in a box, my dick in a box babe
It’s my dick in a box, my dick in a box girl
See I’m wise enough to know when a gift needs givin’ (yeah)
And I got just the one, somethin’ to show ya that you are second to none
To all the fellas out there with ladies to impress
It’s easy to do just follow these steps
1: Cut a hole in a box
2: Put your junk in that box
3: Make her open the box
And that’s the way you do it
It’s my dick in a box… my dick in a box babe
It’s my dick in a box, my dick in a box girl
Christmas; dick in a box
Hanukkah; dick in a box
Kwanzaa; a dick in a box
Every single holiday a dick in a box
Over at your parent’s house a dick in a box
Mid day at the grocery store a dick in a box
Backstage at the CMA’s a dick in a box (yeah-wow-wow-wow-wow-wow)
A dick in a box, a dick in a box, a dick in a box…

Is Justin Timberlake Working On A New Album?

It’s been about a year and a half since Justin Timberlake released his Man of the Woods album. The new music dropped just two days before he performed at the Super Bowl LII halftime show in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Remember that performance?

If you are eager to get some new Justin music in your ears, it seems there may be some good news!

Check out the video that was posted on social media this week.

That’s Justin, with Pharrell, The Neptunes, Ray J, and Brandy in the studio. Are they all working on some sort of collaboration? According to The Blast, it’s likely he is working on new music. As for a collaboration, he may have just dropped into another session to give some feedback.

I suppose if he is working on his own new music, it’s likely that he won’t be part of that rumored ‘NSYNC reunion that was supposed to be discussed over this Summer.

Of course, we will keep you posted when we hear any little inkling about new JT music! All I want for Christmas is some new Justin in my life, just sayin’! 🙂

‘Saturday Night Live’ Christmas Music: 6 Great Moments

From a number about hooking up in your childhood bedroom to a Paul McCartney sketch, ‘Saturday Night Live’ regularly gifts fans with perfect music moments.

Saturday Night Live’s Christmas shows are always extra special. The festive spirit means even higher energy than usual inside Studio 8H, and extra-buzzy celebrity guest stars can be expected.

In keeping with this hallowed tradition, the women of SNL recently carried on that hallowed tradition by getting together for a cover of Mariah Carey’s Xmas staple “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” flipping the script and asking Santa to bring just one thing on Dec. 25: the long-awaited report from special counsel Robert Mueller.

The instant classic joined a list of five other holiday tributes from the gang at Studio 8H. Get in the holiday spirit by watching the best holiday musical moments from Justin Timberlake, Jimmy Fallon, and more below.

6. “All I Want For Christmas is You (Mueller)”

Cecily Strong, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Leslie Jones, Melissa Villaseñor, Heidi Gardner and Ego Nwodim only want one thing in their stocking this year: “I just want to sleep at night/ So make sure that your case is tight,” they sang in the song about their anticipation of Mueller’s probe into the alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. “I just want a simple thing/ And the joy that it will bring/ The report is finally due/ Mueller, all I want for Christmas is you, you baby.”

Scroll to the 1:00:45 mark to watch the song here.

5. Paul McCartney Christmas Pageant

Martin Short is always hilarious, but putting him opposite a game McCartney as two guys auditioning together for a Christmas pageant — with no singing allowed from one Sir Paul — was still an unexpected treat. The fact that the sketch ended in the best possible way — with the set being struck and McCartney going onstage to sing “Wonderful Christmastime” was a delightful SNL Christmas miracle.

4. “I Wish It Was Christmas Today”

You can’t go wrong with an original new wave Xmas tune sung by Horatio Sanz, Jimmy Fallon, Tracy Morgan and Chris Kattan: “I don’t care what the newsman says/ Christmas is full of cheer/ I don’t care if you think it’s a lie/ Christmas will soon be here.”

3. Buble Duets

Michael Buble is the undisputed king of the present-day Christmas album. So when he stopped by SNL, he naturally had to participate in a sketch in addition to some singing. Impressions of Sting, Taylor Swift, MIA, and Russell Brand as Buble duet partners followed, but the real treat was Fallon’s perfect early-era Justin Bieber.

2. “D–K in a Box”

The sketch is an Emmy winner (yes, an actual Emmy winner) for a reason. The perfect mix of raunchy, absurd, and goofy (just check out Timberlake and Andy Samberg’s outfits!), it’s no wonder this instantly became a classic SNL moment — and helped cement Timberlake’s place as one of the all time great hosts.

1. (Do It On My) Twin Bed

The debut video from the best musical group SNL’s ever seen, Yr Girls, dropped a holiday ditty in 2013 that was stuck in our head for the next year. The old-school junior high photos as a backdrop — not to metion Fallon’s rap — were the perfect bonuses. (And don’t miss the Thanksgiving sequel, “Back Home Ballers.”)
