Regal Select

What is Regal Select Paint by Benjamin Moore?

Regal Select by Benjamin Moore paint is an extremely high-quality, 100% acrylic paint. Regal Select is known for being environmentally friendly, with absolutely zero measured VOC. This makes it a great contender for interior paint. With three finishes to choose from and the variety of color afforded by the Benjamin Moore brand, Regal Select is an excellent premium-quality paint. Regal Select also is self-priming, making the actual process of paint application simple. Providing full coverage with minimal coats needed, Regal Select is a popular and dependable product among the Benjamin Moore product line because it’s easy to use and versatile.

Regal Select Paint Finishes

Regal Select comes in a flat finish for projects for which you prefer the least amount of shine. Regal Select in flat finish is ideal for achieving a uniform finish. This finish is spatter resistant and can be utilized for a variety of interior projects, based on your preferences. Regal Select in flat finish comes in the entire variety of colors offered by the Benjamin Moore product line.

The Matte-finish Regal Select paint provides a smooth and easy application. Both mildew resistant and excellent at providing full coverage, matte finish may be ideal for more high-traffic areas within the home. Matte is an elegant and timeless finish that works for every area of the home, and with Regal Select this acrylic paint is guaranteed to be high-quality.

The semi-gloss finish of Regal Select paint is another favorite among our customers. The semi-gloss finish includes stain-release technology, making it easier to wipe down when there is a spill or mess made. This makes the Regal Select semi-gloss a popular choice for areas such as the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as doors and cabinets. This finish is very durable and will stand the test of time.

Where Can I Buy Regal Select by Benjamin Moore?

In addition to offering the Regal Select paints by Benjamin Moore, we also are the trusted supplier of a variety of paint supplies. With another week of house painting product reviews, we would like to share our experiences with Benjamin Moore’s Regal Select. With new stringent regulations that will soon take place, covering both interior and exterior paints; manufacturers are slowly reformulating to low VOC (less than 50 grams) or zero VOC paints! Benjamin Moore’s Regal product line is one of many products that have gone under reconstruction with a newly found Regal Select!

Benjamin Moore’s Regal Select hit a home run when it was first introduced. The adverting strategies were mostly geared towards the fact of it being a zero VOC product. The Select also added improved adhesion properties to the formula. We find these efforts mostly geared towards a competitor, Behr which claims a self-priming interior product. Along with a new formula and label came a few additional changes. These changes took a once top performing interior house paint and turned it into a product that now performs less than average.

Downsides to this newly created product are mostly found in semi-gloss finishes. In efforts to counteract a fast drying (low open time) paint, the consistency of the paint is now a lot thinner. However, the efforts did not help much. We found this product to dry too fast! As a result, this product did not level very well. Select reveals unsightly brush strokes that result in a below average finish. If additives that will extend open time add with a paint of this consistency, painters are at a loss for coverage. Benjamin Moore is known for producing smooth none spattering paint that levels, covers and contains a resin that is in a class of its own. Unfortunately, Regal Select Interior has fallen short of what is expected from Benjamin Moore Paints. In conclusion, the Regal Classic is still the best interior paint that Benjamin Moore has created!

Right Paint For Your Project

Now, I hope you get some idea of the difference between them.

The other difference I did not mention is the pricing. They do cost differently from $40, $63 and $74 per gallon respectively.

If you consider DIY or upgrade your paint, do you really need $74 Aura for the project?

In my opinion, it is not necessary for interior painting unless you are doing dramatic color change such as black to white or you want to paint vivid color like bright red and yellow or you want to paint very deep color accent wall.

In this case, you can take advantage of high percentage of primer inside Aura to reduce labor cost.

Pro tips: any Benjamin Moore color that ends with “-30” and below requires primer as base coat to achieve color accurately, For instance 2111-30, 2111-20 and 2111-10

However, if you are doing exterior painting, Aura is best bet for your project. It is because the high percentage of primer inside Aura promotes adhesion to surface and gives you a long lasting result

Pro tips: Use latex extender with Aura when painting to avoid roller lines as it dries too fast

As profession painter and toronto condo painters, I would recommend, instead of spending money on $74 dollar paint, it is better to invest a $20 brush and $7-$10 paint rollers such as Purdy brush and rollers.

The reason is the brush holds more paint than cheap dollar store brush so that you can get the job faster. Also, the shape of the brush gives you a straight cutting lines.

the $7-$10 dollar rollers hold more paint than cheap dollar store paint rollers so that you spend more time on rolling rather than spending more time to get the paint from roller tray. Plus, those expensive paint rollers never shed and gives you a smooth finish.

At the end, if you are on budget, go with Benjamin Moore Ultraspec, Sherwin Williams Quali Koat and Dulux Xpert.

If you want to upgrade, go with Benjamin Moore Regal, Sherwin Williams Super Paint / Opulence and Dulux Lifemaster.

If you want to deep color accent wall, go with Benjamin Moore Aura, Sherwin Williams Duration and Dulux Diamond.

As painting contractors in Toronto, we do receive contractor discount from Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams and Dulux. we always pass this discount to our customers for material savings.
