Princess beatrice wedding date

The royal family has had a lot going on lately: In addition to all of the drama with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepping down as senior royals, there’s also a big wedding in the works.

Princess Beatrice and her fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are scheduled to wed later this year. And now, according to royal sources, Queen Elizabeth has decided to let Princess Beatrice have her reception at Buckingham Palace—something that hasn’t happened since Prince William and Kate Middleton got married there in 2011. (Royal fans will remember that Harry and Meghan wed at Windsor Castle and had a reception at Frogmore House. And Princess Beatrice’s sister, Princess Eugenie, also wed at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in 2018.)

The news comes as Princess Beatrice’s father, Prince Andrew, was suspended from his royal duties because of his connections to Jeffrey Epstein, the financier and convicted sex felon who died in 2019. According to the Daily Mail, Prince Andrew opted not to go to his daughter’s engagement party at the London restaurant Chiltern Firehouse because of the scandal. It’s unclear if Queen Elizabeth offered Buckingham Palace as a reception venue to Princess Beatrice before or after the engagement party, but her friends say she’s excited.

“Bea was delighted and very grateful to accept. It was a really special gesture as it will be the first wedding celebration at Buckingham Palace since William and Catherine’s in 2011,” an insider told the Daily Mail.

There aren’t many other details about what else is in store for Princess Beatrice’s wedding, but with a venue like Buckingham Palace it’s bound to be gorgeous. It will likely also be full of personal touches, which Princess Beatrice has already embraced; Just after she got engaged, she responded to everyone who sent her congratulatory messages with sweet, handwritten cards. They read, “Thank you so much for thinking of us after the engagement.” We’ll have to see what other details she’s planned when she ties the knot later this year.

Princess Beatrice is engaged to her boyfriend Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, her parents have announced.

The 31-year-old daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York, got engaged to the 34-year-old property tycoon in Italy earlier this month.

The princess, who is ninth in line to the throne, will marry Mr Mapelli Mozzi next year.

“We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together,” the pair said in a statement.

“We share so many similar interests and values, and we know that this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness,” they added.

Beatrice said on Twitter she was “so excited” by the announcement, while her fiance said on Instagram: “You will never be alone my love, my heart is your home.”

The Duke and Duchess of York said: “We are thrilled that Beatrice and Edoardo have got engaged, having watched their relationship develop with pride.”

“We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and loyal young man. We send them every good wish for a wonderful family future,” they added.

“I know what a mother feels so I have tears of joy,” the duchess added on Twitter.

“I am so proud of this sensational news,” she said.

“Andrew and I are just the luckiest people ever to have two great sons in law.”

Mr Mapelli’s parents, Nikki Williams-Ellis and Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, said they were “truly delighted” by the engagement.

“Our family has known Beatrice for most of her life. Edo and Beatrice are made for each other, and their happiness and love for each other is there for all to see,” they said.

“They share an incredibly strong and united bond, their marriage will only strengthen what is already a wonderful relationship.”

Beatrice’s sister, Princess Eugenie, married her long-term partner Jack Brooksbank at Windsor Castle in October 2018.

“I’m so happy for you my dearest big sissy and dear Edo,” she said in an Instagram post congratulating the pair.

“It’s been a long time coming and you two are meant to be,” Eugenie added.

Who is Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi?

Mr Mapelli Mozzi – known as Edo – is descended from Italian aristocracy, according to AFP.

He is the son of former alpine skier Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, who competed for Britain in the 1972 Olympics.

His mother, Nikki Williams-Ellis, was formerly known as Nikki Shale, from her marriage to the late Christopher Shale – Edoardo’s stepfather.

Mr Shale – who died from heart disease at Glastonbury Festival in 2011 – was a senior Tory and close friend of former prime minister David Cameron.

Mr Mapelli Mozzi has been a friend of Beatrice’s family for some time.

The BBC’s royal correspondent, Jonny Dymond, said he believed the pair had been together for about two years – and that they have only been seen together in public a handful of times. He said things have “moved pretty quickly”.

In addition to his royal engagements, Andrew served as a special trade representative for the government until 2011, when his links to the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein forced him to step down.

Since their separation the duchess has been involved in various charitable projects, appeared on British and American TV and published several children’s books.

Further details of Beatrice’s wedding will be announced in due course, her parents said.

Princess Beatrice, the older daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York and ninth in line to the British throne, is engaged to property tycoon Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Buckingham Palace announced Thursday.

The couple became engaged while on vacation in Italy earlier this month and plan to get married next year. The two made their first public appearance together as a couple in March at London’s National Portrait Gallery.

Princess Beatrice, 31, broke up with her longtime boyfriend, American-born Dave Clark, in 2016. Mozzi is father to a young son, Wolfie, from a previous relationship with American architect and designer Dara Huang.

While Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s son Archie became the first American, mixed-race baby born into the royal family, Wolfie seems to be the family’s first American, mixed-race step-child (his mother is of Chinese descent).

Another first: Queen Elizabeth II’s granddaughter marrying a man with a child born outside marriage.

“We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married,” the couple said in a joint press release statement. “We share so many similar interests and values and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead.”

Mozzi, CEO of architecture/design studio Banda Property, posted engagement photos on his Instagram account Thursday with a sweet caption: “You will never be alone my love, my heart is your home. Hand in hand, today, tomorrow and forever. 💍”

Beatrice’s younger sister, 29-year-old Princess Eugenie, married commoner Jack Brooksbank last October. The two sisters are cousins to Princes Harry and William and are the daughters of Queen Elizabeth II’s second son, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.

Prince Andrew shared photos and the couple’s statement on his official Twitter account. The engagement comes amid the prince’s scandal over his involvement with accused American sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, who committed suicide last month while in federal custody awaiting trial.

The Duke and Duchess of York, who have been divorced in 1996 but remain close and share a home on the Windsor Castle estate, also issued a joint statement, announcing they were “thrilled that Beatrice and Edoardo have got engaged, having watched their relationship develop with pride.

“We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and loyal young man. We send them every good wish for a wonderful family future.”

Mozzi’s parents also expressed delight in a statement from Buckingham Palace. “Our family has known Beatrice for most of her life. Edo and Beatrice are made for each other and their happiness and love is there for all to see,” said Nikki Williams-Ellis and Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, an Italian count.

And Princess Eugenie shared well-wishes to the couple on her personal Instagram account: “Beabea – wow! I’m so happy for you my dearest big sissy and dear Edo. It’s been a long time coming and you two are meant to be.” Ferguson tweeted the same photos from her own Twitter account.

Although both are members of the royal family and have royal titles, neither York sister is on the royal payroll, so they have both forged different careers in different industries. Beatrice is currently a vice president at a software company, Afiniti. Eugenie works as a director at a London art gallery.

Jewelry designer Shaun Leane (a frequent jewelry supplier to Duchess Meghan) revealed via Instagram that the company had designed Beatrice’s engagement ring, a “platinum and diamond… fusion of Victorian and Art Deco designs.”

Leane wrote in a statement on Instagram he was “so honoured Edoardo chose to work with me to design the engagement ring for Princess Beatrice and to have been involved in this special moment in their lives.

“The bespoke experience was a beautiful journey; from imagining the design with Edoardo to the crafting of the finished rings. Being able to incorporate both Edoardo and Princess Beatrice’s characters into the design has resulted in a unique ring that represents their love and lives entwining.”

Who will be Beatrice’s bridesmaids?

It’s likely that Princess Eugenie will be her maid of honour or bridesmaid, having performed the honour herself at her wedding to Jack Brooksbank in October 2018.

She might also follow her sister’s example by asking little Princess Charlotte to perform bridesmaid duties.

And she has a host of young family friends and relatives who could take on that happy task.

Here’s how Princess Beatrice’s wedding to property tycoon and single dad Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi will change the royal family

  • Princess Beatrice’s wedding to the property tycoon Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi later this year will change the dynamic of the royal family, royal experts told Insider.
  • It’s not clear how involved Mozzi’s 2-year-old son, Wolfie, will be with the other royals after the wedding.
  • Wolfie could steer clear of the media attention, like the Duchess of Cornwall’s children, or take the opposite approach, like the eldest son of the Crown Princess of Norway, who gave the media a look into his personal life after appearing in Vogue in 2018.
  • Beatrice and Mozzi’s wedding is likely to be the final high-profile royal wedding for several years — and possibly the last witnessed by Queen Elizabeth II.
  • Visit Insider’s homepage for more stories.

Princess Beatrice of York is engaged to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, Buckingham Palace announced in September 2019.

The pair’s 2020 nuptials will bring plenty of change to the royal household. Queen Elizabeth II will welcome not one but two new members into the family, as Mozzi has a son from a previous relationship.

There is also the question of whether Mozzi — who made his first official appearance with the royal family on Christmas Day — will be granted a courtesy title.

This is something that recent additions to the family — including Princess Eugenie’s husband, Jack Brooksbank — appear to have declined.

Insider spoke with royal experts who told us how the wedding would change the dynamic of the royal family.

Beatrice will become a stepmother

Mozzi has a 2-year-old son, Christopher “Wolfie” Woolf Mapelli Mozzi, with Dara Huang, an architect and designer whom he was previously engaged to.

Though Beatrice and Mozzi dated for just a year before their engagement, they have been family friends for most of their lives, Mozzi’s parents said. So it’s possible that the princess already has a good relationship with his son.

However, we aren’t likely to see this relationship develop further, according to Joe Little, the managing editor of Majesty magazine.

“I’m sure on occasions when there is a gathering of the York family, Beatrice’s stepson will quite possibly be included,” Little said. “However, we haven’t seen much of Camilla’s children or grandchildren, apart from when she married Prince Charles.”

The Duchess of Cornwall’s children, Laura Lopes and Tom Parker Bowles, are private citizens — meaning they aren’t official members of the royal family.

But at the wedding of their mother to Prince Charles in 2005, they posed for official photos with their mom and their new stepfamily.

“We don’t see them on a regular basis as part of royal life,” Little added. “They keep their private life private.”

It’s worth noting that Camilla’s children were already adults when she married into the royal family. At just two, however, Wolfie will partly be raised by the royals.

This happened when Crown Princess of Norway Mette-Marit married into the royal family as a single mother in 2001. She had a 4-year-old son, Marius Borg Hoiby, when she married Crown Prince Haakon.

Though the couple went on to have two children together — Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus — the princess’ eldest son was never given a title, unlike his half-siblings.

Nonetheless, Hoiby, now 22, seems to have taken the opposite approach as Camilla’s children. In August 2018, his appearance in Vogue garnered major publicity. Hoiby and his girlfriend, Juliane Snekkestad, a model, were profiled for the story “How to Spend a Romantic, Relaxed Day in Oslo,” giving in-depth insight to their personal lives.

Though it’s possible that Mozzi’s son could follow in Hoiby’s footsteps and embrace a public profile, Little said he didn’t think that would happen.

“Mozzi doesn’t want his son in the public eye,” Little said. “He will want to protect him from the unwanted media attention that comes with being in the royal family.”

This could be the last royal wedding attended by the Queen and Prince Philip

Beatrice is not a working royal — instead, she has a career in business.

While she attends events such as the Royal Ascot and goes to Balmoral, she does not carry out official engagements on behalf of her grandmother, the Queen.

This means that the wedding will not be as high-profile as her cousin Prince Harry’s 2018 nuptials to Meghan Markle, watched by an estimated 1.9 billion people across the world.

But it’s likely to carry historical significance as the last high-profile royal wedding for several years — and quite possibly the last attended by the Queen and Prince Philip.

Richard Fitzwilliams, a royal commentator and former editor of “The International Who’s Who,” told Insider: “Beatrice carries out royal engagements, though — together with her sister, Eugenie — does not carry out official royal duties and receives no subsidy from the taxpayer or the round-the-clock police protection they once did.

“There will be public interest, as the broadcast of Eugenie’s wedding on ITV attracted some 3 million viewers, though obviously as she is not a senior royal it will be limited.

“However, this is likely to be the last high-profile royal wedding for years to come and will probably also take place at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor.”

After Beatrice, the Queen has two other unmarried grandchildren: Lady Louise Windsor, 15, and James, Viscount Severn, 11. Though it’s possible, the Queen, who’s 93, and Philip, 98, may not be around to see their younger grandchildren tie the knot, making Beatrice’s wedding all the more significant.

Mozzi could be granted a royal title, but it isn’t likely

Throughout history, men who married into the royal family were offered earldoms so that their children would be eligible for a royal title.

Mozzi could be made an earl upon his marriage to Beatrice, but that’s something that “just doesn’t happen these days,” Little said.

Beatrice and Mozzi were dating for a year before their engagement. David M. Benett/Dave Benett/Getty Images

Princess Margaret’s husband, Antony Armstrong-Jones, was made the Earl of Snowdon upon their marriage, and their children were subsequently granted the titles of lady and earl.

Princess Anne’s first husband, Mark Phillips, was reportedly offered an earldom for the same reason. But Phillips is said to have declined the offer, and the pair’s children have grown up without titles, as nonworking members of the royal family.

Since Beatrice is a nonworking member of the family, it’s assumed she will take a similar approach and raise any children without HRH status.

This seems to be the approach taken by Beatrice’s sister, Eugenie. Her husband is simply referred to as “Mr. Jack Brooksbank” on the royal family’s official website — an indication that he too either rejected or was not offered a title.

Nonetheless, the Queen broke protocol by allowing Mozzi to make an official appearance with the royal family at St Mary Magdalene Church on Christmas. This is something that hasn’t been done since Meghan Markle attended the church after her engagement to Prince Harry in 2017.

Breaking from tradition in this way could suggest Mozzi is eager to begin his new life — and possible role — as a royal. However, fans will have to wait until after the wedding to know for sure.

Whether or not Mozzi is made an official royal, Fitzwilliams summed it up best when he said that Beatrice’s choice to marry him would certainly help shape the dynamic of the royal family for generations to come.

“It is an example of how significantly European royal families have changed that they marry for love, as they obviously should, and they and their families reflect the freer nature of contemporary relationships which are often considered unconventional,” he said.
