No7 hydraluminous moisturising foundation

Boots No7’s new affordable foundation is a glow-getting winner

Boots launches a new range today: No7 HydraLuminous, a foundation and concealer with skincare benefits. Here’s what we think

There’s been much talk about ‘skip care’, the time-saving South Korean trend for detoxing your skincare regime and chucking out non-essential products. New to the party is Boots No7, with their entirely new HydraLuminous range aimed at glow-seeking millennials, although good for the rest of us as well. So far there are two products in the range a Moisturising Foundation and a Dark Circle Concealer. They are packed ingredients you’d more commonly find in your serums, eye creams and day creams and presumably, the idea is that you can get by with less on all of these, or maybe dispense with them altogether because your base is doing all the hard work. The price point is refreshingly reasonable too – the foundation is £15 and the concealer £14.

I’ve been testing the foundation for three weeks and I’m surprised how much I like it, particularly the way it makes my skin look dewy. I have dry skin and so am not prepared to ditch my moisturiser just yet, but it there’s definitely good hydration over time when I wear it and it feels super comfortable and lightweight and easy to blend. It contains skin-boosting vitamins A and C for evening out skin tone and an antioxidant complex with vitamin E and nourishing grapeseed oil. Light reflecting pearl powders give that extra bit of glow while SPF provides basic sun protection.

The great thing is that once you’ve been shade matched in store with the Boots Match Made tool (just ask in larger branches, it’s free) you can shop across all their ranges without endless swatching. The accurate match, plus the hydration and glow all deliver a natural looking light-to-medium coverage that makes skin look and feel healthy. The packaging, however, doesn’t strike the minimalism and pastels notes that are code for ‘millennials, this way’.

As for whether the ingredients actually improve the skin itself I can’t say as I use multiple power-packed unguents anyway. However, Boots did their own small trial on 101 women over four weeks and 89 per cent said their skin looked fresh and healthy after removing foundation (although it may have been fresh and healthy already, we don’t know). Regardless, this is a great looking and feeling product at a very good price.

As for the Dark Circle Concealer, Boots didn’t have advanced samples, but when I tested it at the preview, it did a great job on masking my shadows and has a colour-correcting formula. It has the same skin ingredients as the foundation but also contains caffeine to perk and reduce inflammation. I love the foam ‘dobber’, the sponge applicator which nods to Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Away Liquid Concealer. The Tilbury is a tenner more but comes in double the number of shade: 16 to HydraLuminous’ eight.

The shade range is the one – quite major – place this new range disappoints. The foundation comes in only 12 shades, which excludes women everywhere who are darker than Deeply Honey (see pic below). Boots do say that they plan to roll out to their full 25 shades, but in the age of Morphe and Mac with 60 shades and Doublewear with 54, it’s playing catch-up. If you’re within range, I’d say definitely buy it; if you’re not, message Boots and tell them you want to be included.

MORE GLOSS: Which other high street foundations get our seal of approval?

If the cold weather has left your skin feeling super dry and your usual foundation just isn’t cutting it, then listen up because No7 has just launched a brand new product that could become your new beauty BFF.

Boots’ own-brand label has added an affordable new base to its makeup collection – and we reckon it’s perfect for dry winter skin.

Yep, after trying out the new No7 Hydra Luminous Moisturising Foundation for ourselves, we can attest that this rich cover-up gives your complexion an extra dose of radiance.

Light and easy to blend, it left our skin feeling dewy with a healthy glow, while the medium level of coverage disguised imperfections effectively.

The new foundation, which launched in Boots stores and online last week, comes in 12 shades and will set you back a reasonable £15.

The Hydra Luminous Moisturising Foundation also includes key ingredients designed to leave your skin feeling “fresher and healthier” over time, Boots said in a release.

Vitamin A has been added to help “firm” skin, while Vitamin C apparently helps even out tone and improve radiance. The product also contains an antioxidant complex that No7 says is designed to nourish and moisturise.

And, while we can’t comment on any long-term benefits yet, our skin did feel more hydrated than usual at the end of the day!

As well as the Moisturising Foundation, No7 has also launched a matching Hydra Luminous Dark Circle Concealer – and we have to say we were really impressed by its effects!

The £14 under-eye concealer is No7’s first full coverage, hydrating cream, offering a colour-correcting formula designed to disguise the appearance of dark circles.

We tried it out and loved the hydrating formula, which blended easily without settling in fine lines.

Much like the foundation, the Dark Circle Concealer contains an antioxidant complex, as well as Vitamins A and C. Plus, it includes anti-inflammatory caffeine and an ingredient called Haloxyl, which No7 says should help lessen dark circles.

It’s available in 8 shades and, like the Moisturising Foundation, is now available both in Boots stores and online now.

Tried and tested: the new No7 HydraLuminous Foundation will have you GLOWING

Brought to you by Boots No 7.

Brighter skin? Yes please.

I always get excited when I learn about a new and exciting beauty product.

Which may explain why I almost died reading about the new foundation from No7!

What’s so exciting about this shiny new product, I hear you ask?

Well, the new No7 HydraLuminous Foundation includes some pretty incredible ingredients.

It contains a blend of pearl and powder that instantly adds radiance to your skin – something we all need.

There are also some epic skin-loving ingredients, such as vitamins A, C & E together with Grapeseed oil.

So not only will you get the coverage and glow you want, you’ll also find your skin nourished and moisturised.

Dreamy, right?

So naturally, when I was asked to trial the product, I basically jumped at the chance.

I decided to give the No7 HydraLuminous Foundation a go on a day where I was feeling particularly exhausted.

My skin was having one of those “grey days” as I call them; I was just looking a bit meh.

There were no major issues with my skin, no blemishes or any of that, but my complexion just wasn’t cute.

So I applied the No7 Hydra LuminousFoundation (in “Beige”), and I was not disappointed.

The first thing I noticed was that the product was a delicious consistency – not gloopy or thick in any way.

It went on easy and smooth, no cakeyness, which I was a massive fan of.

Once I applied the foundation, with a buffer brush by the way, I was delighted.

My skin looked radiant and fresh, which was certainly a change from before.

And you know what? The foundation works its magic throughout the day!

After using the No7 HydraLuminous Foundation for a few days, I found my skin had a natural glow – even when I wasn’t wearing makeup.

So, I can only begin to imagine how gorgeous I’ll be looking after a few more weeks of using this baby.

The No7 HydraLuminous Foundation range is available exclusively in Boots stores and online a Boots.ie for a very reasonable €20.

It comes in 12 glorious shades, so there’s something to suit everyone.

Oh, and if you want even more amazing coverage, you need to try the No7 HydraLuminous Dark Circle Concealer.

A winning combination, I promise!

Before and After

I had a good feeling about this foundation before I tested it out and I wasn’t wrong. It is lovely, easy to use, skin flattering formula. I went with shade Cool Vanilla.

Before

After Cool Vanilla

It is great on redness, enlarged pores, and pigmentation and delivers a gorgeous glowy finish that is right up my street. It also feels light on the skin and nicely moisturising, but not sticky or tacky. I lightly powdered it with the Meteorites pressed powder from the Guerlain Spring collection and it lasted really well all day. I am really pleased with this.
