Jacksonville high school students create the viral ‘Mannequin Challenge’

The Mannequin Challenge is the next viral craze that’s taking over the social media world – just like the Running Man Challenge before it. College football teams really ran with the Mannequin Challenge on Saturday, and the results were fantastic.

It’s really not that hard to successfully complete this challenge. All you have to do is be as still as you can while someone walks around and films the scene.

The challenge was apparently created by students at Edward H. White High School. Jasmine Cavins told First Coast News her and some of her friends came up with the idea one day in class.

“Our friend Emili walked up to the front of the class and froze still and our other friend Alaynah said “hey you look like a mannequin”. Then my other friends Jasmine and Breonna joined Emili in the front and started doing crazy poses, that’s when my friend Deryk said ‘hey we should make this a challenge’. That’s when we recorded the video with weird poses.”

— blackie (@pvrity___) October 26, 2016 Here are some of the videos from Saturday:

1. Tim Tebow and the SEC Network crew partnered with the fans and really committed, despite requests to get back to work.

2. Clemson shared their video after beating Syracuse 54-0. They all dance at the end. It’s pretty epic.

3. TCU celebrated a 62-22 win over Baylor with this one that spread throughout the entire locker room.

4. Navy celebrated a close 28-27 win over Notre Dame with this on-field Mannequin Challenge.

5. Penn State hammered Iowa 41-14, then froze, and danced it out.

6. Utah didn’t play on Saturday, but the Utes still shared their take on the challenge – and they dance at the end.

7. Texas A&M University-Commerce spent a weather delay filming this.

8. Kennesaw State beat Clark Atlanta 56-0 and shared this video.

9. Kent State didn’t play on Saturday, but put out an impressive video that involves heavy lifting.

10. South Oregon University beat Montana State-Northern 56-14 and shared this one.

There are probably a million more out there. I did my best to round up as many as I could find on this fine Saturday full of college football. If you want to see more, check out the #MannequinChallenge hashtag on Twitter.

By now you’ve probably seen some mannequin challenge videos and wondered what the hell is going on. The purpose of new viral sensation is to make everyone in your video look like they’re not moving to create a tableau effect. When it works it’s actually pretty cool and when it doesn’t it’s cringe worthy.

The phenomenon started with students from Edward H. White High School in Jacksonville, Florida on October 12, 2016. The initial posting has inspired other groups to take on the “challenge” (YouTube is weird), especially celebrities and athletes that have posted increasingly complex and elaborate videos. Suddenly people everywhere were creating insane scenes of frozen movement and the viral trend shows no sign of slowing down.

The trend of making movies of people frozen in time stretches pretty far back into film history, and this 2009 Philips Carousel commercial might be what inspired the high school students in the first place. It still blows all the other videos away. Oddly enough, it’s even got creepy clowns. Maybe it’s also responsible for another 2016 craze.

If you’re still left wondering why the hell anyone would do something like this, Michael McCrudden is here to help. His new video documents the origins of the absurd mannequin challenge back to its roots in performance theater.

Even though Joe Biden memes are giving this viral trend a run for it’s money, there’s no end in sight for the mannequin challenge. So if you’re thinking of making a mannequin challenge video, why not add some social commentary? The world needs it right now.

Remember the Harlem Shake? The viral video challenge that had people busting crazy dance moves in 2013? The latest internet obsession is just as mesmerizing, but with the exact opposite goal in mind.

The “Mannequin Challenge” has been taking over Instagram and Twitter ever since high schools started attempting it in late October. The idea is simple: Get a bunch of friends together and pose perfectly still while someone films you. The videos usually show people holding incredibly difficult positions (no flinching!) with Rae Sremmurd’s song “Black Beatles” playing in the background.

It looks like the challenge is only just getting started, but these 15 videos take the cake so far:

13 Best Mannequin Challenges To Surface On The Internet & Give You Your Own #MannequinGoals

I have a lot of questions for Gen Z, including and not limited to: How did you get all those Instagram likes? Why are you so much hipper than I am? And now, of course, WTF is going on with these mannequin challenge videos that are sweeping this here internet? Using the hashtag #MannequinChallenge, teens are now taking videos of themselves frozen in place, pretending to be mannequins in dramatic poses while Rae Sremmurd’s new song “Black Beatles” plays in the background. The phenomenon started in late October, and let me just tell you, the commitment in it is some REAL SAUCE.

The first known #MannequinChallenge video, posted by Twitter user @pvrity___, has since gone viral, and it shows a group of students sitting so ramrod still in various positions on a table that you actually start to question your sanity while watching it. To make it even more boggling, midway through the video, someone starts picking up the humans pretending to be mannequins, and they don’t even move an inch. I cannot fathom the muscular control this requires on their part, because I am a person who struggles to reach my arm out to turn off my alarm clock in the morning, let alone defy the logic of gravity.

Since then, the tweet has inspired many other attempts at the challenge — here are the best of them so far.

Mannequin Challenge Videos : 6 Tips To Get Them Right

Matthew JohnFollow Dec 22, 2016 · 5 min read

We made a Mannequin Challenge video recently and here are a few video hacks to get it right.

A snapshot from the famous Cleveland Cavaliers Mannequin Challenge video featuring Michelle Obama

Mannequin Challenge videos have hit the internet like a viral storm! Every small group out there in the internet is now doing a Mannequin Challenge video featuring their workplace, hangout with friends or even a regular family get together. There are 2 things that makes Mannequin Challenge videos viral:

1. It’s Almost Zero Effort: Yes! The best qualification for you to be part of a Mannequin Challenge, interestingly, is the ability to do nothing. No other viral challenges have been so easy to ‘perform’ (don’t even compare it with the Ice Bucket challenge!). All you need to do is decide a pose and stick onto it when the camera pans on you.

2. It Actually Works: Like it or not, panning a video camera around absolutely still people do give the feeling of having a lot of mannequins around. This is enhanced by the way the videographer treats each still person in the scene. We will get to that soon.

Here’s a compilation of some of the most creative Mannequin Challenge videos

So next time you’ve got a gathering and want to do something fun, easy and cheap — Mannequin Challenge video is the way to go! Now let’s look at some important tips on how to get it right:

1. Get your location to freeze

Anything and everything you capture on the Mannequin Challenge video has to be still. For example — if you are planning to do a Mannequin Challenge with a lot of people walking behind like a busy street — not a great idea. Reason is simple — the viewer wants to get the feel of the scene getting frozen and anything that moves in the scene would be annoying — be it a TV screen playing some cartoon, your pet wagging its tail or even a paper flying around. So choose a location where you can get everyone and everything to freeze. If you get a big crowd to freeze, nothing better than that. More the people involved, merrier it is! That’s why some of the best Mannequin Challenge videos feature a lot of people.

2. A Mannequin at a time

Even if you have 3–4 people who could be covered in a shot, try not to do that. Always pick one person or a close group engaging in an activity in a frame, pan very close to them and then move slowly to the next person. This approach makes the shoot look continuous and also builds an anticipation — “Now that this mannequin is done, what crazy pose would the next one be sporting?”. This makes the video engaging. Summing that up — don’t pick a long shot featuring all the mannequins in the beginning. Start one by one and once you cover all of them, you could zoom out to give a summary shot of the location.

3. Cues for your actors

An average Mannequin video duration is anywhere between 40 secs to 80 secs. Now it’s not right to expect your actors to stay still all this while, especially if they are still on a weird or difficult pose. Remember, you can’t even blink your eye when you are shot. Here’s where the videographer could help everyone. Shout out a cue when you are reaching a specific person or group so that they remain prepared for the shot. Since the video would mostly be covering a person or small group at a time (refer to the tip above) — you don’t need everyone still all the time. They just need to be still when the camera covers them. And the videographer can shout out as many instructions as he or she needs since we would anyways be cutting the audio channel and adding a nice music for the video.

4. Be creative with poses

Try to get as creative as possible with your mannequin pose. One way is to do something very difficult or freeze in a pose as if you are captured while in the middle of something. For example — holding onto the basketball ring as if you just did a slam dunk or holding a bar with weights lying on a bench press as if you are in the middle of a workout etc. You can also get creative by freezing in poses where one or two people together on a frame would help the audience make some sense about the situation — eg. an arm wresting match in action!

5. Stitch some good music

Mannequin Challenge got popular with the track ‘Black Beatles’ by Rae Sremmurd. But if you plan to download a copy of this music or a close variant of it, edit it with the video and upload on YouTube — there is a good probability that YouTube detects copyright material on your video and deems it unplayable on certain screens (eg. it would not work on Mobile). You can get around it by following the instructions here or decide to use a free song from YouTube’s audio library. Please note that you should completely do away with the original audio of the recorded video. That way, the videographer can help you all with better cues (refer to the tip no. 3).

6. Give your audience some context

A Mannequin Challenge featuring Michelle Obama or Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t need any specific context building. But if you are planning to do a creative Mannequin Challenge video with your friends and hope that it goes viral, you will want to tell your audience who you are or where you are shooting. That gives some context for the audience. Use an easy overlay graphics tool like Typito to do this finishing touch.

Here’s a Mannequin Challenge video that we shot in a startup incubator in India where we feature along with other startups in the incubator. As you can see, the context building helps the audience get a good grip of when, where and who of the video in general. Comment below if you can find the 2 parts in the videos where our mannequins got vulnerable ;-).

Mannequin Challenge featuring all the startups at the Space, Bangalore

Note — Give credits to your videographer. The guy who shoots the video and unfortunately doesn’t feature on it — he’s the one who has the most difficult job in a Mannequin Challenge. So go ahead and show some love for the video guy by giving him credits on the video description or tag him when you share the video on social networks. Definitely a great gesture!

Hope you liked the tips shared here. Now go creative and do a Mannequin Challenge video with your mates this coming holiday season!

We Ranked the 23 Best ‘Mannequin Challenge’ Videos

The “Mannequin Challenge” took the web by storm, starting with the Cool Teens in high schools before making its way to the worlds of celebrities, professional sports, concerts, and politicians, (It’s even gotten political, as with this powerful Black Lives Matter-themed compilation film.) Between Britney Spears, Blac Chyna, and Beyoncé, it’s become something of a celebrity rite of passage. And when First Lady Michelle Obama gets in on the game, well, it’s official: we have a national phenomenon on our hands.

We’ve rounded up some of the absolute best and most amusing videos of frozen-in-time groups of people, including some who frankly defy physics.

Best Casual High School Squad: These kids all managed to freeze-frame some of the most iconic high school scenes, from that moment when you rush down the school steps after the bell has rung, to those casual encounters hanging in the hallways or goofing off in a classroom.

Best School-Approved Mass Assembly: Hundreds of teens got in formation for this giant tableau, featuring what appear to be a number of dance squads.

Best Meta Music Moment: Rae Sremmurd, the hip-hop group whose song “Black Beatles” is the unofficial soundtrack to most of the Mannequin Challenge videos, somehow got an entire concert crowd to participate. It’s eerie.

Best Even-More-Meta Music Moment: Paul McCartney—an original Beatle—tipped his hat to Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” with his own version of the challenge.

Best Team Effort: The New York Giants got in the spirit admirably.

Best Surprise Celebrity Sighting: Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry and his wife Ayesha contributed to the genre with a video of an entire restaurant rendered frozen mid-meal. Keep an eye out to glimpse the basketball player and cook in the mix.

Best Political Participation: On the morning of Election Day, Hillary Clinton and her team shared a video of their entire plane cabin—filled with the likes of Jon Bon Jovi and Bill Clinton—executing the Challenge with aplomb.

Best Execution by the Pros: James Corden got his backstage crew and guests to do the Challenge… and then brought it all the way to the front of house, where his full studio audience remains motionless as the camera swoops through. The nearly three-minute video is flawlessly executed, with dozens of people captured in complex activities.

Best Beyoncé: Because something isn’t pop-culture-approved until Queen Bey gives it her royal stamp. The Destiny’s Child version is simple but, naturally, flawless.

Best Test of Strength and Skill: It’s hard to understand just how these cheerleaders are maintaining their acrobatic positions for quite so long. Practice makes perfect?

Best Dance Crew: Laurie Hernandez and the crew at Dancing with the Stars know exactly how to pose for the cameras.

Most Mind-Bending: This gravity-defying, physics-defying squad’s submission just doesn’t seem real.

Best Workout Video: You know anything Kevin Hart’s involved with will be comedy gold. This one’s short but sweet:

Best Mannequins on… Rollerskates? This roller rink is no joke.

Best Party Animals: Things start to get fancy when filmmakers get involved, like this Twitter user, whose freeze frames are physically impossible (bullet frozen in midair, anyone?). But that doesn’t make the scenes any less engrossing to watch.

Best British Invasion: The team at BBC’s Radio 1 music station got in on the game, too.

Best Guest Appearance by a Non-Human: Watch for it.

Most Committed: Blac Chyna’s mid-labor Mannequin Challenge shows insane levels of dedication to the craft of web virality. Well played, Team Kardashian.

Best Behind-the-Scenes: Ellen DeGeneres and her crew look like they’re having a great time backstage at her show. Ping pong, anyone?

Best Britney: Don’t mess with the queen of Vegas shows.

Best Red Carpet Appearance: The SoulTrain Awards managed to freeze their entire red carpet, including photographers and onlookers, to do the challenge. Erykah Badu slays.

Best Surprise Ending: Director Ava DuVernay stopped time on the set of the upcoming movie A Wrinkle in Time… and revealed the movie’s release date.

Most Impressive Location: Yes, that is First Lady Michelle Obama hanging out with LeBron James and the rest of the dapper-looking Cleveland Cavaliers at the White House. They chose to soundtrack their challenge with some classical music, understandably.

Lately, it seems we’ve all been stopped in our tracks by the latest internet sensation to hit social media platforms. From Twitter to Instagram, short, medium, and long length videos consisting of frozen folks have been popping up everywhere. For those not in the know, the Mannequin Challenge is a hashtag that started just this year, in early 2016. In the spirit of department store displays, weird horror movies, and other viral dances like the Harlem Shake, the Mannequin Challenge consists of a group of people freezing in the middle of an action. While some videos come off as creepy, some are hilarious and have taken the artistry of it to a new level. This list compiles 21 of the best-ever Mannequin Challenges into one compact article. From the most hilarious to the most daring, watch as all these different groups, from musicians to sports stars, tackle the challenge of freeze-framing under pressure.

Hillary is giving Michelle Obama, who appears later on in this list, a run for her money in this viral video challenge. The importance of taking part in your country’s democratic system is essential if only to back up the saying that “if you don’t vote, you don’t get to complain”. Hillary Clinton is taking a stand, literally, against people who refuse to get out there to the polling stations. Her video is cute, taking place with all of her campaign managers, friends, and other support systems during her run. The twist? She’s on an airplane! Moving along the campaign trail doesn’t mean she’s not up to date on the latest viral trends. In fact, it gives her the unique position to take up some really interesting positions in crazy places. Thank you for using the Mannequin Challenge trend to send a political message, Hillary! That’s a great example of using social media for the greater good.

These amazing ladies pop up in the news only for the most important reasons. And the Mannequin Challenge is one of them! Gracing us with their combined force of artistic power, this trio of awesome brought even more cool to the table when they opted into this viral video challenge. The ladies decided to get together originally for the celebration of Kelly Rowland’s son. His second birthday was a great excuse for them all to get together, but the group quickly turned to more rambunctious activities. The women have made a hilarious video featuring play balls, long balloons, and Rowland’s son’s play room. Gorgeous, funny, and incredibly well shot, this short video is awe-inspiring if only because of the brilliance combined in it. The women look gorgeous, in casual clothing that screams “2nd birthday party” chic. They’re so still it’s hard to believe they aren’t department store dolls brought to life.

— New York Giants (@Giants) November 6, 2016

Kicking off our sports team participants, these guys truly embraced the spirit of the challenge. Taking the simple approach, they gave us an intimate view into their locker room. This makes this video more like a diary entry, or a still from a documentary. It’s fascinating to see how they all prepare, and to see the sheer amount of people that can fit in that room! Of course, because of the competitive nature of sports, they aren’t the only team that has embraced this challenge. As one of the first ones, they had an advantage, quickly gaining viewership and likes. They’ll be hard-pressed to keep up with the rest of the videos on this list, though, as playing it safe can only get you so far. The sports team up next beat them, we think, with a video filmed completely up in the air. See for yourself who did the better job!

In the professional sports world, competition is a huge part of the game. While most recreational leagues have participation medals, that’s not the case at the level the New York Giants play at. These guys have to compete for everything since it’s their job! Is it any surprise that they’ve gotten themselves into a Mannequin Challenge video competition? The gentlemen here are upping the ante with these videos once again and daring their other professional sports friends to match them. Fresh off a thirty-five to ten win, the team and their support crew were soaring high when they decided to pass the time by filming a crazy mannequin video. Their mid-air antics consist of shoving people into overhead compartments, making fun of the management team, and showing off their success. Careful about bragging too much, boys; there are still more sports teams showing off their stock still best on this list!

17 Michelle Obama

A post shared by Kyrie Irving (@kyrieirving) on Nov 10, 2016 at 5:14pm PST

Would you expect anything less than perfection from this incredible woman? Not only does she brilliantly turn a casual get together on its head, but she demonstrates remarkable elegance while doing it! Instead of the classic Black Beatles song, Michelle Obama chose a soaring classical theme to compliment the backdrop; where else would she create a viral video but the White House? She just needed the perfect accompaniment to round out the performance. Her and all her friends on the Cleveland Cavaliers squad are looking well-dressed and obsessed with making the best video out there. While this one scores high, it’s not the absolute most amazing video we’ve seen. While the density of people is high and the folks there breathtaking, there are stranger and more death-defying ones out there. However, it still makes the list due to its elegance and charm, a quality not often seen in viral videos.

16 Rae Sremmurd

#Mannequinchallenge live 🤘🏽❄️ pic.twitter.com/y0aUTIfyTn

— Swae Lee Lee Swae (@goSwaeLee) November 4, 2016

“Black Beatles” is the unofficial official soundtrack of a lot of the Mannequin Videos we’ve seen. While it might not be obvious at first listen why this song is perfect for the Mannequin Challenge videos, it seems to be the best choice. The beat is steady and the music just eerie enough to add to the atmosphere of totally frozen scenes of movement. It lends itself to a kind of science fiction mood, harkening back to scenes in the Matrix and other futuristic movies. Due to the popularity of this song, of course, the recording artists had to do their own take on this viral video. This one shows a full concert, all the artists, and the audience members freeze framing during the song. We couldn’t make a list without this one being involved, since it’s the old grandfather of all the videos, despite it not necessarily being the first. But very well deserved!

15 Steph Curry

Soooo. This happened! Last night at @chefmichaelmina test kitchen for #internationalsmoke and they’re on to the next! @ayeshacurry congrats! #mannequinchallenge

If you’re brainstorming where to take your sweetie out on a date, what’s the first thing that springs to mind? The movies can be an entertaining-yet-intimate experience; a picnic is great for the summer or spring time. Drinks is fun and casual and usually, leads to an overall great night. But by far the most popular place to take your significant other out on a date to is dinner. Whether you opt for classy or casual, you can’t go wrong with a good meal. Steph Curry knows this, which is why he and his wife Ayesha were out and about on the evening of their Mannequin Challenge. Out on a romantic date, this Golden State Warriors star and wife asked if the restaurant they were in would be willing to participate in this viral video challenge. Much to everyone’s joy, they said yes! The video stars everyone from the chef to the bartender to the patrons. Keep an eye out for the ridiculous set up at the end, too!

14 Garth Brooks

This happened last night! #MannequinChallenge HA! love, g

A post shared by Garth Brooks (@garthbrooks) on Nov 13, 2016 at 10:12am PST

Garth and his compatriots pounded out a musical Mannequin Challenge when doing a live show this past week. This country star certainly has an eye, and ear, for the artistic, showing off his specialty moves and music while astonishing viewers with this crazy video. The camera person utilizes both the space and the sound well, integrating both into the action of this video. They start filming backstage, move to the front stage, and then move behind a curtain. On the way back, viewers of the video get to see the audience, crew, and musicians onstage and frozen in space. The music has stopped, which makes the whole thing a little creepy and otherworldly. Everyone, even the audience, stays frozen until the camera dips underneath the stage, which then sparks the music cue to unfreeze the world. Possibly the most magical video we’ve seen so far, this is one that’s hard to beat!

13 Dancing with the Stars

That girl is a real crowd pleaserrrrr #MannequinChallenge #dwts pic.twitter.com/empyBNcngt

— Laurie Hernandez (@lzhernandez02) November 7, 2016

Anything that has to do with dancing and stars has our vote as one of the best! We love when celebrities pick up on viral trends, as they often have the resources to do absolutely crazy things us normal people wouldn’t have the capacity for. And when you combine stunts and celebrities with viral videos, you’re always in for a good time. This Mannequin Challenge pans from judges to dancers, so we get to see the whole range of crazy movements it’s possible to be frozen in. The outfits alone are worth a watch too, as they bring a sense of joy and professionalism to this video. This challenge can also be a good prank, as it looks just like the show itself… But frozen! See if you can fool your friends by sharing this with them before telling them what it is. Dancing With the Stars has done such a good job with these shots, you can hardly tell whether your TV is on pause, or if they just have a remarkable talent for staying still!

12 The Late Late Show

Comedy is the name of the game on The Late Late Show. You’d think a star-studded cast and witty writers is enough to give this show the biggest and best viral videos always, but that might not be the case. While not the absolute most amazing on this list (that one comes later), this video shows off all the work that goes into making The Late Late Show everything it is. James Corden ring mastered this event, detailing the best way to go about getting everyone involved. He decided to film not only himself, but also his guests, backstage crew, support staff, and audience! Almost like a behind the scenes tour, it’s neat to see how a huge show like The Late Late Show gets produced. We see people in hair and makeup, people working cameras, getting ready to go on, and hiding in plants. Maybe the latter isn’t essential to producing a big late night talk show, but it sure brings us some laughs in this Mannequin Challenge video!

11 Anaheim Ducks

#MannequinChallenge, 80s style 😎

A post shared by Anaheim Ducks (@anaheimducks) on Nov 14, 2016 at 4:07pm PST

Hockey is often thought of as a violent sport. The number of injuries is shocking when you watch a game, and the statistics surrounding permanent damage or concussions is staggering. It’s almost enough to question who would want to go into sports in the first place! Some people do enjoy it, though. Those people are often incredibly hard working too. The benefit to all this hard work is that players know how to have a good time off the court as well as on. These boys were showing off their skill off the court here, during a big celebration party. This 80s-themed bash was just a few days ago but has already had a huge response to it. The lights, sound, and color make this Mannequin Challenge video exciting to watch, despite the fact that there’s no movement or dramatic stunts. It feels more like a time machine than a viral video project, which makes this one super exciting to watch!

Typically, the videos we’ve been seeing have had music playing in the background. Whether it’s a unique soundtrack or a song we’ve heard a thousand times, the music is an important part of any mannequin challenge video. Traditionally (if it’s possible for a viral video to have tradition) the song playing in the background is “Black Beatles” by Rae Sremmurd. This song has a great beat and adds to the overall tone of the videos we’ve seen. On the topic of Beatles, it makes sense that this musical Beatle decided to make his own version of the challenge. Paul McCartney pops up every now and then for only the most important reasons, and this hilarious video is one of them. Who doesn’t find his self-effacing humor charming? Another artist might make themselves the center of attention, but instead, McCartney draws more attention to the song in order to build humor.

9 Cheerleader Challenge

We don’t know about you, but the scarier the better is what we’re looking for in these videos! Gravity-stopping, death-defying feats of strength are the highlights of all these amazing videos. Most regular people don’t have the physicality to achieve that, though. So many Mannequin Challenge videos seem to fall a little flat because of the way they look like everyone else’s. If you’re making your own, unique location and crazy stunts are a great way to get more views. That’s true for this team, at least! While not perfect (if you look closely, you can see a girl’s hair moving in the first couple seconds), these cheerleaders know how to impress! The crowd also seems to be participating, until they can’t hold their excitement in anymore! These kids have remarkable control of their strength and have incredible trust in themselves. We can only imagine what it must have been like to be there in the stands for this wild show!

Once upon a time Andy Warhol said we’d all be famous for 15 minutes. This seems to be the slogan of the internet age, in a time when viral videos can be posted by anyone and everyone. We doubt Andy Warhol was thinking of the Mannequin Challenge when he said that, but the essence of the idea still applies. This is particularly interesting when we apply it to people like ZachKing, the Instagram star with a gravity defying Mannequin Challenge Video. While you might not have known of him two weeks ago, last week he and his friends posted an incredible video featuring ping pong balls, mid-air leaps, frozen falls, and other accidental spills caught on camera. He posted this video last week and quickly has garnered over 4 million views. Warhol would be proud to know that the allotted 15 minutes has been extended to more than a week, but it makes it hard for anyone else to get in the game! Who will be the next person to top ZachKing? We found a couple… Read on!

7 Chicago’s The Rink

The Rink did the #mannequinchallenge . I’m feeling homesick. Chicago is the greatest city, but y’all already knew that :D. pic.twitter.com/czDQfODxqp

Chicago is full of weird artists, talented people, and brilliant ideas. One of the best ways to combine all these things is in a viral video. You have the confines of what the video is about, while still being able to stretch your creativity and ideas. This makes viral videos the most interesting things to watch, as you never really can predict what’s coming next. The Rink is a staple in Chicago. This roller skating paradise features two maple wood floors, a gear shop, and offers both regular roller lessons and theme nights. No surprise, the roller rink also features lights, music, and a plethora of people and talents. The rink here is seen frozen in mid-party, with all of the moving lights on pause too. How is it possible? It must be rollerskating magic since we can’t figure it out. Making this Mannequin Challenge video truly stand out is the fact that all of these talented people are frozen, in position, on wheels! Bet you can’t freeze frame mid-fall in a set of roller skates!

6 Kevin Hart

The funny man himself is bringing more laughs to this viral video challenge. It’s surprising that with all the sports teams jumping on this train, we haven’t seen many that take place in a sports arena. We’ve seen the incredible cheerleading group, and we’ve seen the gymnastics team, but we couldn’t seem to find any inside a gym… Until now! When we saw this short, hilarious video filmed inside a gym, we couldn’t believe how brilliant it was. While no one is upside down, and there’s no ping pong balls in the air, this video is still one of the most impressive ones we’ve seen. These strong men pose like there’s no tomorrow, without a muscle twitch or a watery eye. Their feats of strength are almost as dazzling as their faces, which are exaggerated just enough that it looks like they might actually be cartoon characters brought to life!

5 Britney Spears

We use our bodies to make our own #MannequinChallenge 🎉 THANK YOU for voting #PieceOfMe for @TheBestOfLV!!!

Is there anything this queen of pop can’t do? Taking the media by storm, she’s been a cultural icon since a young age. Most girls, boys, and all in between remember the shocking steaminess of watching “Oops, I did it Again” for the first time. From her breakdown to her momhood, Britney continues to create new life milestones… Such as this mannequin challenge! She has upped the ante of the viral video world again, with this new dance-oriented frozen challenge. This simple but astonishing video shows dancers in varying poses; everything from deep squats to splits, to single-legged stands are scattered throughout this video. The densely packed crowd means the camera person must have had a heck of a time getting around them. That makes the stillness even more impressive! This control and balance is something very few pop stars can ever hope to achieve, especially stars with a history like Britney’s.

4 Ellen Degeneres and warren Beatty

#MannequinChallenge

Put these two together and what do you have? Trouble. Fun and playful, but trouble nonetheless. These two froze the entire set they were filming on, from people snacking on bananas to a woman almost getting run over! There’s an incredible moment with a ping pong ball too, where Ellen goes to whack it but gets stopped mid-swing. The camera person does a long, scrolling shot, weaving in and out of people to get all the views possible. This is definitely one of the better videos we’ve seen for this challenge, but that’s no surprise. Ellen is a little bit magic (okay, a lot magic), and she makes wild things happen sometimes. We wouldn’t be surprised if this was an actual scene frozen in time, rather than just a bunch of people acting! It’s not, of course, but that’s the type of effect Ellen has on people: stop-you-in-your-tracks talent, as seen in this video!

3 Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian

When you were young, in the teenage or preteen years, did you ever have to watch the movie “The Miracle of Birth”? Typically shown in high school life sciences classes (or biology), this movie demonstrates a female giving birth to a real, live human baby. While the birth process is interspersed with helpful commentary aiding in the digestion of the material, this video is traditionally the stuff of every kid’s nightmares. No amount of colorful voiceover can erase the horror from the minds of the youth who watched it. Luckily, this video is a little more tame. More of a 12th grade diorama scene than a real birth, Chyna and Kardashian played their antics well, with everyone involved frozen to the spot. The most amazing part? Well, the most amazing part is the silence. There’s no screaming, twitching, or contractions while the filming was happening, which is totally opposite to what one expects from a birthing room. We’re impressed! Bravo!

2 Ivanka Trump

We opened the new #TeamIvanka office and had to partake in the #mannequinchallenge. Mannequin included 😉

A post shared by Ivanka Trump (@ivankatrump) on Nov 14, 2016 at 7:11am PST

The Trump name has been all over the news lately, due to his new elected standing in the white house. The man himself has had a scandalous past, but does that rub off onto his family? Well, yes and no. Ivanka Trump has been less in the news than her dear old dad, but she still gets the fame and fortune of her namesake. She’s just gone about opening her new office. As any new, office owning woman of the business world should do, she decided to celebrate this new success. Celebration usually consists of appetizers and champagne, as well as the office staff and maybe a few close friends. ‘But,’ Ivanka thought, ‘what would make this more exciting?’ The best way to make something immediately more exciting is to film it. And the best way to have more fun is to partake in a video challenge! Ivanka combined all of the above with an office party mannequin video challenge… With a twist! Look closely and see if you can find the odd one out in this office party.

1 Team Valnet

Ok, so you might be wondering who Team Valnet is so we will tell you. This is a little behind-the-scenes of the people who are behind this wonderful site and many others that they have. The editorial team from different websites, including The Talko, along with other willing participants got together and joined in on the mannequin challenge fun. The idea behind the video was to give everyone a taste of what goes on in an office full of creatives during meetings! Everything about this video is amazing we don’t even know where to start. How epic is that spilled coffee? The team did such an amazing job and the way they managed to stand still (how did they do that!) It’s really cool to see so many people come up with these videos, not only celebs but real people like us too! You can follow Valnet on Instagram @valnetinc to see more behind-the-scene stuff of the offices and the people who bring you the things you love and more!

In Huston’s freeze frame, the camera focuses on men at a gambling table, but it’s really Keach’s reaction to his surroundings that is the focus. For Zack Morris, the people around him may freeze in animated poses, but the focus is on Zack’s monologue. The difference between the Mannequin Challenge that is happening now is that no one talks, the focus is on the frozen people, and the takeaway is on the action they are taking.

Just like with everything, the Collective Thought is at play here, and while the concept is not new, the application is unique to now.

How You Can Do A Mannequin Challenge!

Yes, you! You may think your brand is boring, or uneventful, or not fit for a Mannequin Challenge, but start thinking of what happens around you, and a scene will unfold that will be captivating!

Of course, you want to do this in order to get into the wildly popular hashtag #mannequinchallenge, but you also want to show what your brand is all about.

What Makes a Great Mannequin Challenge?

Let’s dissect this for a moment. There seem to be a few rules, but being a business owner, you’ll, of course, want to break or bend them:

  • Many People: The most interesting videos seem to have 5-20 people in them. If you don’t have that many people in your office or shop, invite friends in for a Mannequin Challenge Day. Offer them wine. They will come.
  • Music: Right now, the “official” song that plays in the background is “Black Beatles” by Rae Sremmurd. But…being a creative person, you may want to play your own jingle selection here, like Garuda Indonesia did on their Boeing 777-300ER plane.
  • Grand Poses and Plain Poses: What would people do naturally in your space? What do you wish they would do? This can include:
    • Dancing
    • Buying something
    • Looking at something, considering it
    • Dropping something!
    • Making a phone call
    • Hanging a picture
    • Moving a child away from your workspace
    • Answering the door
    • Talking to a co-worker in the hall
    • Serving someone their meal at a table

You can see the list is endless and very fun to start thinking about. The pose a person takes could be indicative of their personality and reflect what they love doing.

Examples of Mannequin Challenges

This is some of the most fun homework ever. There have been many types of videos, so take a look to get some ideas. Definitely hit up the #mannequinchallenge hashtag in Instagram to get loads of ideas.

Watch Beyoncé, Laurie Hernandez and the Giants Nail the Latest Viral Trend: ‘Mannequin Challenge’

High schoolers around the country have started posting fascinating videos: tableaus of groups of kids, frozen in mid-move as a videographer pans the eerily static scene.

Like its predecessors planking and the Harlem Shake, the trend took flight, inspiring the moniker “Mannequin Challenge” (#mannequinchallenge for the Twitter-inclined—that hashtag has been mentioned 2.3 million times in the past week, according to representatives of the site). Over the weekend, the trend officially went viral; beyond squads of Cool Teens, everyone from Destiny’s Child (yes, Beyoncé) to the New York Giants and gymnastics star Laurie Hernandez have submitted their own versions.

The original videos show teens frozen in locker rooms after practice; in hallways checking their phones; on the steps outside of school taking selfies; watching fistfights go down; practicing football; and even, in one memorable submission, wreaking havoc in a men’s restroom. (Most of the videos are set to teen-favorite rapper Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles.”) They’re a visual artifact of modern youth culture, offering onlookers a nostalgic moment to drink in the energy and tension of the high school experience once more—and reminding us that, although cell phones are now ubiquitous, not much else has changed in the halls of high school. Plus, now a whole generation of teens know how to spell the tricky vocabulary word “mannequin.” Win-win. Check out some of the standouts, and some of the adult submissions to the genre, below.

Here are some kids goofing off:

This high school cheer team took it to the next level:

Over the weekend, professional sports teams and managers got in the game. Witness: the Dallas Cowboys’ executives attempting the challenge while mid-flight on a private jet. (Word to the grownups: private jets, while cool, do not provide for optimum conditions for freezing in place.)

Oh, and then there’s Destiny’s Child’s version. (You know—Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams).

Laurie Hernandez, of Team USA’s Final Five, also shared a Mannequin Challenge from the set of Dancing with the Stars, on which she is currently a contestant. Since Hernandez is actually high-school-aged—and the video is spot-on—we’d say she gets a gold.

Ayesha and Steph Curry got a whole restaurant to do it, too.

Expect to see way more of these videos pop up this week. Everyone loves a viral video trend.
