REAL BEFORE AND AFTER FROM FURNITURE CLINIC CUSTOMERS

These photos were sent into us from a customer in the United States. He has used one application of balm on the chair and as you can see, it has totally transformed it! The balm has re-instated the color into the drastically faded ‘white’ areas of the armchair making it look almost new again! The color used was Brown. The head area has absorbed grease; this could have been removed first using the Leather Degreaser.

Wear and tear on the driver’s side bolster has caused the colour to wear off exposing the raw leather beneath. The Re-Colouring Balm in Navy Blue is applied and the damage is hardly visible!

The arm of this leather chair has been scratched by cats and has suffered general wear & tear. The colour beneath is the natural leather colour exposed and the damage has been rectified using the Leather Re-Colouring balm in Maroon. Maroon was used because on a whole the leather is darker than the standard red, although the photo doesn’t show it.

Preparation

Your project: Remove loose dirt, flaking material or anything you believe may interrupt your work. Make sure the surface is clean (no dirt or grease) and dry. If it is a garment or removable textile, it may be easier to wash or wipe clean first.

Your work-area: Our spray paints and dyes will stain/mark carpets, clothes and some other items, so it is advised to use a dust sheet, newspaper, magazines, cardboard or anything else you can get your hands on to protect anything you think might get damaged. Remember, these are dyes and therefore liquid, so waterproof / non-absorbent dust-sheets and plastic sheets will work best. The spray’s tend to be quite focused and are relatively easy to control with very little in the way of air particulates, but it always pays to be cautious.

The can: Shake can well before using, this helps to ensure the dye is evenly mixed and ready, then tear off the blue safety tab at the top.

Painting

Practice: Try it out on a scrap material or inconspicuous area.

Paint Application: Hold can 6 to 8 inches away from project and begin spraying maintaining an even pressure on the trigger, do not pump. Spray thin layers of paint to cover project. Sometimes you may need a few layers, especially when spraying over darker colours, to get good even cover allow 30 minutes between coats and repeat until desired colour is achieved.

Primer Application: Applies to vinyl & leather dye only. Spray onto you’re the surface and rub into hard to reach areas with a cloth. Allow to dry for at least 30 minutes. Never re-apply primer, especially over the colour, as it will cause issues with the finish.

Tips & Tricks: If it comes out in a stream or fits and spurts, try shaking and use different angles. Don’t be shy to get your hands dirty, it’s often more effective to rub it in with your hands, you might see streaks to begin with, but they will soak in (and it washes off your skin very, very easily!)

Dry Time: The overall dry time will depend on temperature and level of humidity, so you can speed the process with a hairdryer to dry material. Typically allow 72 hours to dry before using or washing the sprayed item.

Issues: On rare occasions our spray paints may not perform, this is typically due to pressure as a result of using environmentally-friendly, food safe gas (unlike every other spray paint manufacturer), a clogged nozzle or an over exerted trigger. The dye is still likely to be functional, but you may need to see the below to fix the issue:

Clogged nozzle: Paint may build up in the nozzle after it is used. If this happens, pick off any excess dried paint from the nozzle opening, then flip the can upside down and spray to clear the passage. If this is not effective, let the spray stand upside-down in water to clear the nozzle, give it a wipe and try again.

Low pressure: You should still be able to achieve a stream from different angles, use a cloth or hands to rub the paint into your project.

Damaged trigger: If the trigger is pulled back too hard, it can “stick”. Simply put your index finger behind the blue trigger and push it forward. A “pop” or “click” should happen. If you push on the trigger a few times, it should start spraying again. If you are having serious issues with your canister, just give us a call on 01948 662629 and we will send a replacement.

Cleaning

Clean tip of nozzle between each use; for best results, use entire can in one application.

Nozzle: Rinse under warm water or tip can upside down and spray to clear nozzle. Let dry approximately one hour.

Clothing: Because our dyes are permanent, you will want to wash your clothes as soon as possible if you accidentally spray them. You should wash your clothes using liquid fabric softener because fabric softener breaks down the pigment in the paint. Unfortunately, there’s not a universal solution to remove permanent paint from clothing, all material is different. Keep washing them and put soap directly on the paint, scrub and hope!

Skin: You can wash it off your skin with regular soap, water and a little help from a cloth. It’s surprisingly easy and we have never had issues with skin cleaning or contact in the years of its use. If you wash your hands immediately after using, the paint should come off with little effort.
