  • Andy Murray has been married to his wife, Kim Sears, since April 2015.
  • While Andy (who is currently competing in the 2019 Rafa Nadal Open in Mallorca) has broken near-countless records, he’s done it with Kim by his side.
  • Andy plays his round of 32 match against Slovakia’s Norbert Gombos on Tuesday, August 27 at 2:30 p.m. EST.

Andy Murray is a two-time Wimbledon champion and two-time gold medalist, which has allowed him to garner quite a fanbase. There’s one fan, however, who is cheering, fist-pumping, and smiling at each and every match. Before 2005, we would have said his mom Judy. But for the past 14 years, it’s been his wife Kim Sears.

Still covering from his hip operation in January, he’s made it back onto the court as a doubles player. Today, he’s set to play with his older brother James in the quarterfinal of the Washington Open in Washington, D.C. While he isn’t competing in the U.S. Open this year, we’re still expecting to see lots of Kim. Here’s everything you need to know about their enduring, oh-so-private love relationship.

Andy and Kim met in August 2005

The two met at a party for the U.S. Open. At the time, an 18-year-old Andy was competing in the tournament and lost in the second round. Kim’s tennis connections come from her father, Nigel Sears, a former pro player who is now a seasoned coach to high-ranking players.

Their relationship became public in February 2006

Though they’ve kept much of their relationship out of the public eye, Andy celebrated with his girlfriend after winning the SAP Open in San Jose, California. They shared a very-public kiss, and then he talked about how grateful he was to have her there.

“First time she came to a tournament with me,” he said. “I’m maybe more relaxed on court. I played really well and hopefully she’ll come to a few more tournaments.”

Andy probably didn’t predict that “a few more” was the biggest understatement of all time. In the 800+ matches he’s competed in, we’d wager that Kim has been in the player’s box for most of them. They moved in together by 2008, and welcomed two border terriers, Rusty and Maggie May (named after their favorite song by Rod Stewart).

“To say we love having them would be an understatement,” Murray wrote in an article for The Players’ Tribune. “Honestly, I can’t imagine our lives without them.” Aww.

They broke up in 2009

Before you get too upset about this one, fear not. They were only apart for a few months, and they made a glorious return when they confirmed their reunion in April 2010. By June, she was there for more tournament watching. In 2009, Kim graduated from the University of Sussex. The self-described “full time procrastinator / part time painter” creates pet portraits.

Andy won Wimbledon in 2013 and Kim was there (of course)

Everyone can remember Andy’s first-ever Wimbledon championship in 2013, which also marked the first time a British man had won the tournament in 77 years.

Almost immediately after the historic win, everyone wanted to know one thing: When are you getting married? Andy was adamant that it wouldn’t happen soon, but sure enough …

Andy and Kim were married in April 2015

True love prevails!

After confirming their engagement in November 2014, the longtime couple was married in Andy’s beloved hometown of Dunblane, Scotland. It was a private, intimate ceremony, but Scots lined up to get a glimpse of the couple on their big day.

Kim wore a custom gown made by Jenny Packham, one of Kate Middleton’s favorite designers. Meanwhile, Andy rocked a traditional kilt for the nuptials.

The couple has welcomed two daughters

Sophia was born in February 2016, just after Andy lost the final in the Australian Open. Fighting back tears, he shared a message to his pregnant wife: “To my wife, Kim, who I’m sure is … she’s gonna be watching back home just now. You’ve been a legend the last two weeks. Thank you so much for all of your support, and I’ll be on the next flight home.”

A few months later, the new dad won Wimbledon again in June 2016. And Kim’s reactions were everything. She also co-authored the book, How to Look After Your Human: A Dog’s Guide.

Karwai TangGetty Images

The couple welcomed their second little girl, Edie, in November 2017. To prove just how private they are, Edie’s name wasn’t revealed until 10 months after her birth. Kudos to them and their inner circle for holding that one back!

No photos have been taken of the couple’s kiddos, but Andy shared the most adorable (not to mention, hilarious) conversation he had with his 3-year-old Sophia earlier this year. Andy is more skilled on grass or hard court surfaces, but a particularly great moment happened when Sophia ask him about “orange tennis,” or playing on a clay court. “Just watching some of the Barcelona tournament on the tv with my daughter,” he wrote, before showing this conversation:

“Daddy do you like orange tennis?” “Emmm not really poppet” “Daddy you’re rubbish at orange tennis” Wife … “actually daddies quite good at orange tennis” “No daddy’s rubbish at orange tennis”

“Bit harsh but she’s got a point,” he wrote at the end of the epic Instagram story.

People also suspect a third baby is on the way, as Kim was spotted wearing a maternity top at Wimbledon last month.

All Andy wants is for his daughters to see him play

The pro couldn’t hold back his tears in January 2019, when he announced that he needed to step away from tennis to prioritize his health. After what he thought could be his final match, he told reporters:

“I would like my daughters to come and watch me play a tennis match, hopefully understand what’s happening before I finish. But I’m aware that probably isn’t going to happen now. I’m a bit sad about that.”

About five months later, though, he triumphantly returned to win the men’s doubles tournament at the Queen’s Club Championships in London. Two weeks later, he appeared as the mixed doubles partner for none other than Serena Williams at Wimbledon. So, from what we’ve seen so far, we’re pretty confident that his daughters (along with their mum, obviously), will be there to watch him win again.

Sir Andy Murray and wife Kim Sears expecting third child

Sir Andy Murray has revealed his wife Kim is expecting the couple’s third child.

The two-time Wimbledon champion said his wife could give birth as early as next week.

Kim, 31, sparked pregnancy rumours in July after arriving at Wimbledon wearing a maternity top while cheering on her husband in a mixed doubles match with Serena Williams.

Now Sir Andy, 32, has confirmed their third child is expected imminently.

The Dunblane tennis star said he may need to rearrange his playing schedule depending on the timing of the new arrival.

Sir Andy told The Times: “Obviously the baby can come any time from pretty much next week.

“I would adjust my schedule if I couldn’t go to Antwerp.

“My plan is to play Antwerp and then I am done through to the Davis Cup.

“If the baby came early, I would miss Antwerp and then maybe play at the Paris Masters.”

Sir Andy and Kim are already parents to daughters Sophia, three, and Edie, who will turn two next month.

The couple got married in Sir Andy’s home town of Dunblane in 2015.

Sir Andy has just lost a fiery encounter with Italian Fabio Fognini in the second round of the Shanghai Masters.

Three-time Grand Slam winner Sir Andy is currently ranked number 289 in the world after battling back from a career-threatening hip injury.

Andy Murray revealed his marriage to wife Kim Sears was ‘strained’ following his hip injury.

The tennis ace was forced to undergo a ‘life-changing’ operation at the beginning of the year, in an attempt to prolong his career.

And, lifting the lid on his journey back to health, the 32-year-old admitted it was a ‘tough period’ for his family as he became ‘quite selfish’.

Speaking about ‘being down’, he explained: ‘It put a lot of strain on our relationship, just because I was down all the time.

‘She has been brilliant and I would probably be quite selfish, just in terms of thinking about myself and how I’m feeling all the time and not actually realising the impact that has on all the people around me.

‘When everyone was trying to encourage me to keep going and keep trying and keep playing, I was, like, “You don’t know what it’s like. You don’t know what it is that I’m feeling”.’

And the Wimbledon winner revealed the surgery has changed his life, as he can play with his little ones properly.

‘People say it all the time, but for me this was genuinely life-changing for all sorts of reasons, not just to play tennis, but when I’m crawling through a tunnel in soft play with my children, or just getting down on the floor to play and roll around with them,’ he told The Times.

‘I couldn’t do that before. I couldn’t get the same enjoyment out of doing that with my children as I can now.’

Andy previously opened up about adding to his family with Kim, confessing it has been ‘busy’ in the Murray household.

‘It’s been good. It’s just busy. We’ve got three under four now and two dogs so you’ve got to keep an eye out all the time but it’s been good, sleeping fine. Everyone’s healthy,’ he told reporters at his AMC clothing launch.

‘This time has been really good actually. The first time when we went from one to two the first week or so was a bit I don’t know, a bit of jealousy.

‘But this time they’ve been brilliant.’

And he’s hoping that his brood will be able to watch him play tennis when they’re older.

Which is fair enough.

‘Selfishly I’d like for them to watch me play but ultimately it’s not that important,’ he added.

‘Hopefully I can get a few more years out of my body and see what happens after that.’

Andy Murray has made sure he enjoyed some down time with his loved ones, jetting off to the Maldives for a luxury family holiday. The 31-year-old, who has spent most of the year recovering from a hip injury, took to Instagram on Monday to share some pictures from his vacation at the beautiful five-star Jumeirah Vittaveli resort. Accompanied by his brother Jamie Murray, the sports star wrote: “Had to post a picture with my ice cream lilo as it took me about four hours to blow the bloody thing up. It’s been a trying few months in the Murray household after Andy’s hip surgery in January, which forced him to be out of action since last year’s Wimbledon. The evening before Wimbledon 2018 kicked off, the former world number one revealed he had withdrawn from the tournament, citing it was “too soon” to play five-set matches. Last year, Andy and his wife Kim Sears welcomed their second child, a baby girl called Edie. The couple have been married since April 2015, and are also parents to daughter Sophia Olivia, who was born in February 2016.

Earlier this year, Andy revealed that the thought of his children had kept him going. “I have spoken to my wife a bit about it,” the tennis ace said. “One of the things that I would like to do is play until my eldest daughter is able to watch me and have a small understanding of what it is I’ve done for my living.” He added: “That’s one of the things that’s motivated me to keep playing. That would be cool if she can come along and watch me hit some balls or practice, just to see what it is I do.”

Tennis pro Andy Murray and his wife Kim Sears are now the proud parents of a baby boy, after the couple welcomed the newest addition to their family last week.

Andy’s mum, Judy, confirmed the news on BBC Scotland’s Mornings with Kaye Adams programme today saying: ‘It’s lovely news, lovely to have a little boy…I’ll leave it to Andy and Kim to fill in all the details.’

Andy only confirmed that he and Kim were expecting another child very recently, although there were rumours that Kim was pregnant when she supported Andy at Wimbledon back in July.

The couple, who first met in August 2005 and have been together for 14 years, are particularly private when it comes to their children and family life, rarely choosing to comment on rumors or speculation about their kids.

British Tennis star Andy Murray has three kids with his wife and long-time love interest, Kim Sears. Murray and Kim had been dating since the year 2005 and finally tied the knot in 2015. Since then, Murray has been a happy father to three-year-old Sophia, two-year-old Eddie and a month old son named Teddy. Andy Murray’s children have served as motivation for him to continue his tennis career.

Sophia Olivia is Andy Murray’s eldest daughter and was born not long after Andy finished in second place at the Australian Open in 2016.

Kim was heavily pregnant and could not travel with her husband to support him. Murray called his wife a legend in his emotionally charged speech post his match with long-time rival Novak Djokovic.

In a much talked about Instagram story, Sophia can be seen having fun with her dad calling him rubbish at Orange tennis.

Andy’s second daughter was born in November 2017. The parents kept their baby girl’s name a secret for quite some time. Finally, the pair named their daughter Edie, short for Edith.

It is a traditional English name and means rich and happy.

The third of Andy Murray’s children, Teddy Barron Murray was born last month. Andy revealed the name of his baby boy while announcing the launch of his new clothing brand AMC in November.

Andy’s wife Kim liked the name Teddy. The middle name, Barron, is a family connection. Murray revealed that he didn’t actually love the name but his dad’s middle name was Barron, so he decided to keep it.

The arrival of Murray’s third child was scheduled to avoid a repeat of the stress that the couple had to face during the birth of their first child in 2016.

When asked about the possibility of all three of his children watching him play, Murray said- “I don’t know when I’ll stop. Now as well, after the past couple of years, it would be nice if Teddy did (see me play), but that isn’t the priority for me. Selfishly, I’d like for them to watch me, but ultimately it’s not that important. Hopefully, I can get a few more years out of my body and see what happens after that.”

Injuries and lacklustre performances have rocked Andy Murray’s career in the recent past. However, the Britisher insists that he still has some tennis left in him and has got the capability to lift another grand slam trophy.

The 2020 season will be crucial for Murray as he looks to prove his critics wrong.

However, all sporting achievements aside, his long-term relationship with wife Kim Sears is no doubt a personal highlight for the tennis pro. But how did Andy Murray and Kim Sears meet?

According to Hello!, the couple first met whilst attending a party for the U.S. Open back in 2005, where Sears had been travelling with her father Nigel — who was the head of the women’s lawn tennis association in England. Despite the pair’s romantic relationship developing pretty quickly, Sears and Murray managed to initially keep things low-key. However, following the Wimbledon champ’s first major tournament win in San Jose, California, the couple went on to become the sweethearts of the tennis world. As the BBC reports, Murray and Sears eventually tied the knot on April 11, 2015, during a small ceremony in his hometown of Dunblane, Scotland, and have since gone on to have three children together.

As iNews reports, Murray previously explained how he hopes the film will go on to inspire viewers, and revealed his aims to provide fans some “insight” into what he was going through over the past couple of years, because at certain times he wasn’t “able to perform on court.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m very much looking forward to what promises to be an insightful look into the life of Britain’s biggest tennis star, and you can stream Andy Murray: Resurfacing on Friday, November 29 on Amazon Prime.

They were revealed to be a couple when Murray kissed Kim after he won his first tournament in 2006.

Andy and Kim briefly split up that year, before they reconciled, and they’ve been inseparable ever since.

The pair married on April 11, 2015 at Dunblane Cathedral.

He made a tidy profit from his luxury Miami flat which he sold in 2016 after deciding to spend more time in the UK following the birth of his daughter in February 2016 – he is estimated to have netted a profit of £1million.

When is Andy Murray planning to retire?

Speaking in a press conference before the 2019 Australian Open, Murray opened up about his retirement plans.
The 31-year-old, who is a two-time Wimbledon champion, got emotional when speaking, admitting he was “in pain daily.”

He said: “I’m not feeling good.

“Obviously I’ve been struggling for a long time. I have been in a lot of pain for probably about 20 months now.

“I have pretty much done everything that I could to try and get my hip feeling better. It hasn’t helped loads.

“I’m in a better place than I was six months ago, but still in a lot of pain. Yeah, it has been tough.”

“In the middle to the end of December in my training block, I spoke to my team, and I told them ‘I cannot keep doing this’.

“I needed to have an end point because I was sort of playing with no idea when the pain was going to stop. I felt like making that decision. I said to my team, ‘look, I think I can get through this until Wimbledon.’

“But could this be my last tournament? There’s a chance of that, for sure. There’s a chance of that, for sure.”

He said: “I’m not sure I am able to play through the pain for another four or five months.

“I have an option to have another operation, which is a little bit more severe than what I have had before. Having my hip resurface, which will allow me to have a better quality of life, be out of pain.

“That is something I’m seriously considering right now. Some athletes have had that and gone back to competing.

“But there are obviously no guarantees with that, and it is not something…the reason for having an operation is not to return to professional sport, it’s just for a better quality of life.”

What sponsorship deals does Andy Murray have?

The prize money that Andy wins over the course of a year are only part of the Scot’s earnings though.

His sponsorship deals are where he can really top up his bank account and his off court earning potential has soared this year.

He has contracts with Standard Life, Head and Rado as well as a £15m four year deal with sports wear maker Under Armour.

At the beginning of 2016 he signed a partnership with car manufacturer Jaguar.

Andy is the sole shareholder of his company, 77 Management which looks after his business empire.

However the savvy sportsman is selective about the companies he will do deals with. He won’t take on a sponsorship deal if it compromises his principles or impacts on his training schedule regardless of how much money it will earn him.
