Justin hartley and wife

This Is Us‘ Kevin realized this week exactly how much he cared for his ex-wife, Sophie, just as it became nearly certain that they will never be together again. To invoke a movie often referenced in Tuesday’s episode: How do you like them apples?

The hour found Kevin returning to Pittsburgh to attend Sophie’s mother’s funeral. While there, he reminisced about several pivotal moments in their relationship, including the night Jack died. And later, in a surprising turn of events, Kev slept with Madison — yes, that Madison — once he returned to Los Angeles. (Read a full recap here.)

TVLine got Justin Hartley on the phone pronto to discuss Kevin’s heartache (that scene in the car!), his inevitable reaction to the unexpected hook-up (there’s no way this can end well, right?) and Hartley’s experience directing his co-stars in Kate’s upcoming part of the trilogy (which will air on Tuesday, Feb. 11).

TVLINE | In this episode, we get a lot more context for Kevin and Sophie’s relationship over the years. What was your take as you were reading these moments from their past in the script?
It’s interesting that what brought them back together is the funeral, right? That’s the very thing that may be the pivotal point in Kevin’s life. You learn it in this episode when he says, “This is where my childhood ended.” You learn that she was the one who was there with him when he got that news. And when she gets this news that her mother passes away, one of the first things she does is she calls him. There’s a lot of weight to that. They have a connection. It’s special. These are two people that are forever connected. It’s his ex-wife, you know? They’re different people now, too. Especially him. He’s finally found himself, and he’s comfortable in his own skin. It’s that heartbreak — he said it at the gravesite… He said, “The sad part is that I’m finally ready”…. He’s sitting there with this woman, an arm’s length away from her. It’s all he wants, and he can’t have it. It’s so sad, isn’t it?

TVLINE | It is. And it read to me as it’s not just him feeling that. She’s giving it back to him, too.
Totally. But I also think that he’s, in a way — in every way, actually — being a man and being there for her. The suffering that’s going on in him is taxing and it’s hard, because he’s not going to be able to get what he wants. But he knows that and he’s willing to suffer through that to be there for her. He’s tunnel vision. He’s like, “I’m going to be there for her, always. I will never not be there for her,” and suffering through all of that, the idea of her walking back in there and going back to her fiancé, which is what she should do, because hasn’t been the greatest to her. It’s an interesting thing. I thought that was so great. He’s putting himself second and putting her first. It’s what you should do, right? If he would’ve been able to do that earlier, maybe the outcome would’ve been different. But it’s sad.

TVLINE | We don’t actually see Sophie’s fiancé’s face. Will we meet him before the end of the season?
It’s John Stamos. Will we meet him by the end of the season? Probably. Eh, maybe? Maybe. Maybe.

TVLINE | Sidebar: Interviewing your cast is always amazing, because anything past the immediate episode is full of “Could be! I don’t know! We’ll see what happens!”
Listen, lemme just tell you. Let me apologize for all of us. We’re the worst f—king interviews ever, because we cannot tell you s—t. There’s a mandate. But on the phone, asking really great questions, obviously did homework, really invested and these questions are great, and we literally can’t give you anything. We’re the dud interview people.

TVLINE | First of all, you’ve clearly never read a dud interview. This is not one of them.

TVLINE | And second, if you were trying to butter me up, it worked. Now you can skate through the rest of this interview.
Challenged accepted!

TVLINE | Let’s talk about how Kevin sleeps with Madison, who is the second friend of Kate’s he’s moved in on.
Wait, is that true? What do you mean? Who was the first one?

TVLINE | Sophie was Kate’s friend first, right?
Oh yeah. Yeah, you’re right. Look, here’s the deal. For the first one, he was smitten. They were little kids, and then it turned into something more. But this one, yeah, this one’s a little bit… That’s kind of a forbidden fruit thing, right? You don’t sleep with your sister’s best friend. You can’t do that!

TVLINE | Especially when you’ve always kind of been annoyed by her. I’ve never gotten the sense there was a close bond between Madison and Kevin.
They’re mutually annoyed with each other. She thinks he’s ridiculous. Hey, look: Things change.

TVLINE | We don’t see what the vibe between them is like afterwards. Give me a sense of it, because he’s clearly feeling awkward when he’s whispering on the phone with Randall.
Oh, totally — and guilt. She’s not chopped liver. It’s nothing like that. But he understands what that is. That’s his sister’s . He shouldn’t have done that. That’s his sister’s best friend. Have a little more self-control. But at the same time, they’re both single. It was kind of the perfect storm: We’re both adults, we’re both single, whatever. Then he’s like, “Oh God, my sister, oh God.” I will tell you: It’s a couple episodes in the future, but it does get addressed between Madison and Kevin. It’s hilarious. It’s out of control hilarious.

TVLINE | Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger said last week that The Big Three’s trip to the cabin would be hard, because none of them are at their best, yet they’re having to step up and be there for each other.
We finish out the trilogy with Kate. There’s definitely some back story there. You start to see her relationship with her boyfriend and what all that means and how that influenced and affected who she is now and all of that stuff. That’s really great. The cabin stuff, it is interesting. Trying to be there for other people when you’re going through a lot of stuff is difficult. But they’re all connected. They’re family. And some s—t comes out. There’s a minor blow-up. Different ways of handling important situations. The fact that Kevin — should I be saying this? I shouldn’t be saying this — there’s a problem between Kevin and Randall.

TVLINE | We knew that was going to start at some point.
Yeah. It has to do with the way people handle certain things, and it becomes a dealbreaker situation. It’s massive. There’s two sides to the story and they both have their points, and I get both sides. But when I step into Kevin’s shoes, obviously, I only get one side of it.

TVLINE | You directed next week’s episode, which is Kate’s part of the trilogy and Chrissy Metz’s showcase. Tell me how that compared to the episode of Smallville you directed in 2011.
Less greenscreen. They were both great. Smallville was an iconic show that went on for 10 years, and I was really lucky to be able to direct that show. That was an incredible time in my life. I poured everything I had into that. As you get older and you gain more experience, with that experience comes more knowledge and with that knowledge hopefully comes more being able to execute certain things and give notes in a certain way. Hopefully, I’m better now than I was back then. We have the best actors in the planet on our show, so it’s a gift to be able to “direct” these people. I said to them, “I’m not directing as much as I giving little nuggets of inspiration while you guys are acting and doing the amazing things you’re doing,” and hopefully that comes across in the performance a little bit. They bring it every week. There’s not one moment of one scene that goes by where you’re like, “Eh, they weren’t really there for that performance.” It’s incredible. They’re great. So it’s easy in that regard.

TVLINE | I know you and Chrissy are tight. Did you have conversations about what was going to happen during filming?
A ton. And that’s part of the thing, too: understanding that I’m not the person… that comes in and assumes that after 80 episodes of playing this character that I’m going to change… it’s annoying. But what I can do is read the script 900 million times, and I can give an idea or a story about something that happened to me one time that reminds me of what’s happening here, how it was different or whatever. And then you just watch that actor process that information and then use the tools and their skills to bring all of that to life. It’s really incredible to watch. Mandy was phenomenal in this episode, as well. When you see the dynamic between the two of them in that episode, oh my gosh. I’m not sure they’ve ever really done that with them.

This Is Us’ Justin Hartley Reveals What Kevin’s Latest Romantic Encounter Really Means

If we could describe Kevin Pearson’s (Justin Hartley) journey on This Is Us, it would be growth. The off-the-rails eldest sibling of the Big 3 has found some real stability in his sobriety and is making strides towards having the life Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) would have always wanted for his son. That has never been more evident than in Tuesday’s episode of This Is Us, “Hell of a Week Part 2,” in which Kevin had multiple opportunities to slip into his self-destructive ways, but managed to stay above it.

The second episode of the Big 3 trilogy brought Kevin back to Pittsburgh for Sophie’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) mother’s funeral. The tense, emotional occasion proved that there’s still a spark between the exes, but Sophie remained faithful to her fiancé and Kevin resisted the urge to push her into breaking that trust. Okay, so he did sleep with Madison (Caitlin Thompson) at the end of the episode, which isn’t great considering she’s Kate’s (Chrissy Metz) best friend — but the two did have a real moment before it was revealed they tumbled into bed together. At the end of the episode, Madison is the No. 1 suspect for who is Kevin’s mysterious fiancée revealed in the fall finale back in November, but we can’t count Sophie out yet either.

TV Guide hopped on the phone to chat with Hartley about the episode, breaking down all those adorable moments with Sophie, Kevin’s journey for the rest of the season, and how Hartley felt stepping behind the camera for Metz’s big episode, “Hell of a Week Part 3.”

First things first, does Kevin have real feelings for Madison, or was that a rebound after an intense few days with Sophie?
Justin Hartley: I guess it’s kind of a rebound…He had a pretty rough day. He had a rough week, rough weekend. He’s had a rough couple of months, rough year. Then he goes over there to spend time with the baby and you know, Madison is there. She’s also kind of had a bad year. She’s lonely. She’s alone. He says the right thing, I think, but it comes from the heart. He says something that he really means, you know. “You should stop looking at it that way. I wish I had that.” Then they have that immediate connection. I think it’s just two people that were in need of something at that very moment. It was sort of like a perfect storm. Then, of course, there’s the aftermath, right? This dude slept with his twin sister’s best friend. did the same thing, but that’s a tough thing. Man, that’s maybe not the right move.

Putting the Madison situation aside, does it surprise you that Kevin is the member of the Big 3 that’s currently the most put together?
Hartley: I never really looked at it that way. That’s so funny that you said that, but if you really do take out, and you think about what this man is doing — he’s going to support his ex-wife, this woman that he loves, and she lost her mom. He’s not going to like hook up with her. He’s going to support her and be there for her. He’s there for his brother when his brother has his meltdown. He’s there for his sister, with the baby and visiting Jack. He’s there for his mom. He wants to reconnect with her and tries so hard. He’s trying really hard with Miguel. You’re totally right. I mean, this is crazy, right? He’s the one like he’s the one that’s kind of stuck together. I can’t even believe that.

There were a lot of moments in this episode where he could have reverted back to his old ways and didn’t. It was cool that he called Sophie to ask if it was okay for him to come to the reception.
Hartley: That was good. That was a well-written scene. I read that, and I was like, “Oh, he’s standing on the lawn with a box of donuts. That’s so cool.” That was really romantic and cool. I don’t think he was doing it . I think he was doing it, like, just really trying to be there for her and to give her something that she gave him when his father passed away.

It was obviously emotional to be there for Sophie when her mom died, but Kevin still doesn’t know about Rebecca. Can you tease what we can expect when he finds out that she’s in such a fragile state?
Hartley: It’s not great. That’s awful, sad, terrible news…It’s been in recent years — I don’t think it was when he’s a teenager, when he’s a kid — I think in recent years, he’s learned how to be there with his mom, and appreciate her and enjoy her company and her time and her humor and her grace. I think that’s what’s going to kind of carry him through this…This is what this is — the last parent, this is everything. He doesn’t have kids. He’s at home, alone.

You’re directing the next episode. What was it like stepping behind the camera for that episode?
Hartley: I mean, it was a little intimidating at first. I’m not going lie to you, just because it’s This Is Us and it’s like getting the keys to the castle, right? This is the show and it’s the whole baby, and they’re like, “Here you go. You asked for it.” It ended up being like one of the highlights of my life, honestly…To be able to sit at the monitors and, in the moment, watch what these actors are doing from a different perspective, it was really extraordinary. Mandy and Chrissy, I think, in this episode are doing things and I don’t think they’ve ever been better. It’s great material. The writing was incredible, but I think you’re going to see them do things that you haven’t really seen yet, and that relationship is going to blossom and bloom.

This Is Us’ Sterling K. Brown Reveals How Jack Pearson Shaped Randall’s View of Therapy

We are still waiting for answers about who Kevin’s fiancée is. What is your advice for fans that are chomping at the bit for those answers?
Hartley: You can be patient, because it might take a little bit to figure out who this is. But at the same time, there is so much story in between now and when we find out who this is. Right now, and all of that story in between those two points, inform the end. It is so well put together. It is like a master class in how to tell a story. They’ve done an amazing job. It’s really incredible.

This Is Us will return Tuesday, Feb. 11 with “Hell of a Week Part 3” at 9/8c on NBC.

‘This Is Us’: What Is Justin Hartley’s Net Worth and How Much Does He Make per Episode?

Justin Hartley might have landed in the hearts of fans for his role on NBC’s This Is Us, but his career didn’t start there. He wasn’t always part of the famous “Big Three,” of Kevin (Hartley), Randall (Sterling K. Brown), and Kate (Chrissy Metz).

He started on the set of a popular soap opera, Passions, as Fox Crane. He is also well known for his role on the CW’s Smallville as Oliver Queen/ The Green Arrow. Let’s take a look at what the star is currently worth and how much he makes per episode of This Is Us.

How much does Hartley make per episode of ‘This Is Us’?

When Hartley joined the cast of This Is Us, he started with a salary of $40,000 per episode. He and Chrissy Metz were the lowest paid actors out of the main five stars on the show. Milo Ventimiglia and Mandy Moore brought in the most, at $85,000 per episode at the show’s inception while Sterling K. Brown fell in the middle at $75,000 per episode.

With the massive success of the show, the stars negotiated substantial pay raises in 2018, before season 3. The five main stars—Ventimiglia, Moore, Brown, Metz, and Hartley— each now earn $250,000 per episode of This Is Us, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Typical seasons are around 18 episodes; therefore, Hartley will bring in $4.5 million for the current season of the NBC show.

The critically acclaimed NBC stars won the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in both 2018 and 2019.

Hartley was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards in 2019 but did not win. He was also nominated at the Teen Choice Awards for Choice Drama TV Actor in 2019 but did not win. Hartley was nominated for several awards for his work on Passions as well as The Young and the Restless.

You can watch Justin Hartley on This Is Us on Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. on NBC.

It’s easy to imagine Kevin Pearson, the hapless, impulsive and somewhat self-centered actor Justin Hartley plays on “This is Us” getting into the kind of marital muddle that Hartley, in real life, finds himself embroiled in.

If you’re just catching up, Hartley, 42, shocked not just “This is Us” fans but members of his inner circle by filing for divorce from his wife, Chrishell Stause, 38, last month, Us Weekly and other outlets reported.

Now Stause, who reportedly also was blindsided by Hartley’s divorce filing, believes that the actor is allowing his “This is Us” fame and money destroy their marriage, TMZ reported. Her legal team suspects he and his lawyers have engaged in some divorce dirty tricks.

Stause’s lawyers, who are pushing for the daytime soap actress to get spousal support, are asking whether he filed for divorce and is lying about the separation date in order to keep her from getting a share of some secret but lucrative deal he may have signed in recent months, TMZ said.

Stause also suggested in a cryptic Dec. 2 Instagram post that Hartley has changed with the massive success of “This is Us.”

The actress shared a quote from author Nishan Panwar, which read, “It’s hard to watch people change right in front of you. But it’s even harder remembering who they used to be.”

Hartley and Stause began dating in 2014, when both worked on different daytime dramas — he on “The Young and the Restless” and she on “Days of Our Lives.” Hartley previously was married to Lindsay Hartley from 2004 to 2012, with whom he shares a 15-year-old daughter, Isabella.

Hartley and Stause got engaged in 2016, just before “This is Us” debuted on NBC and became one of the most-talked about and lauded new shows on TV.

Hartley and his co-stars suddenly became household names, and the struggles of the Pearson siblings started national conversations on a range of topics, including family, identity, race, mental illness and coming to terms with one’s past. Hartley’s Kevin Pearson also dealt with addiction, among other things.

Hartley and Stause married in October 2017 in a ceremony witnessed by some of his “This is Us” co-stars, including Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia and Chrissy Metz.

But it sounds like problems emerged not long after their wedding — at least from Hartley’s perspective.

“Justin had been having problems with the marriage for a while,” a source told Us Weekly.

But to Stause, she and Hartley remained committed until just before he filed the divorce papers — which made it curious that Hartley cited July 8, 2019 as their date of separation, TMZ reported.

The date raised eyebrows because Stause and Hartley made statements about their marriage or enjoyed public outings as a couple multiple times following their supposed mid-summer separation, AOL.com added.

On July 21, for example, Hartley took to Instagram to wish Stause a happy birthday. He posted a series of photos of her, including one from their wedding. “Let’s all wish this young gem of a human a very happy birthday!” he wrote. “To many more years of love and laughs!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY @chrishellhartley !!!!!!!”

Ten days later, on July 31, Hartley and Stause smiled for dozens of photos together at an event for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and in September, they were by each other’s sides at the Emmy Awards.

They also hit a Golden Globes Ambassadors party on Nov. 14. The next day, the couple hosted a viewing party with their friend Melissa Claire Egan for the Hallmark Channel movie “Holiday for Heroes.” Us Weekly reported.

Egan praised her “besties” Hartley and Stause for hosting the party.

“SO lucky for these friends, and so lucky for my besties @chrishellhartley & @justinhartley, throwing a screening party for ‘Holiday for Heroes’ tonight,” Egan captioned an Instagram photo. “Best friends ever.”

For his part, Hartley is apparently not letting the divorce or negative reports coming his way get him down. He seemed upbeat at a recent holiday party that he attended with a bunch of “guy friends,” a source told Us Weekly.

“He was mingling and drinking and having a great time,” the source said, adding that he chatted with “This is Us” costar Jennifer Morrison and enjoyed some Don Julio cocktails. “He also took a Suja Wellness shot before leaving the party.”

THIS Is Us actor Justin Hartley can’t seem to agree with his estranged wife Chrishell Hartley on when they actually called it quits on their marriage.

The US actress has responded to Justin’s divorce petition and claims it came completely out of the blue for her.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Chrishell, 38, lists their date of separation as November 22, whereas Justin says they split on July 8.

However, the couple – who married in October 2017 – were pictured out together several times in between July and November, and were even seen just one week before Justin filed for divorce.

Justin cited “irreconcilable differences” in divorce paperwork and is apparently not willing to pay Chrishell’s legal fees.

Chrishell’s divorce attorney, Samantha Spector, says that as well as the fees, she wants him to pay spousal support, but Justin is allegedly refusing to that too.

This Is the Real Reason ‘This Is Us’ Star Justin Hartley Blindsided Chrishell Stause With Divorce Papers

This Is Us star Justin Hartley’s estranged wife, Chrishell Stause, is convinced that money ruined their marriage. Sources close to the couple claim that Stause was completely blindsided when Hartley filed for divorce, but she was even more troubled when he listed the date of their separation as July of 2019. She says that they were together until the end of November and that Hartley lied about when they split to avoid paying her spousal support.

Why did Hartley blindside Stause?

In his official divorce filing, Hartley wrote that their date of separation was July 8, 2019. Inside sources say that Stause has privately disputed this date and says they were together as late as November 22, 2019.

It is true that the couple was spotted in public together throughout the summer and fall, so his separation date is a bit of a mystery. But for Stause, she knows exactly why the This Is Us star pushed the date back by several months.

According to TMZ, Stause believes Hartley had some kind of deal on the table when he filed for divorce. A source claims that she thinks Hartley lied about their separation date so he could get out of paying her in the divorce.

Stause is seeking spousal support as part of the settlement and wants Hartley to pay for the legal fees. The actor has reportedly denied this request, so the fate of their financial future rests in the hands of a judge.

Hartley has likely made a lot of money following his work on This Is Us, though it is unclear how his fortune will be divided.

Stause shocked by the divorce

Stause was reportedly just as shocked as everyone else when she heard that Hartley had filed for divorce. Although the two had been struggling for a long time, she did not think they had reached the point that divorce was on the table.

“Justin had been having problems with the marriage for a while,” a source shared. “The divorce filing was a big surprise to everyone around Justin and Chrishell in terms of their friends.”

This Is Us star Hartley has not elaborated on why things did not work out between him and Stause, but they appeared romantically involved with each other as recently as a week before he filed.

At the time, the Selling Sunset star invited friends over to her house for a special viewing party for her new Hallmark film, Holiday for Heroes. Hartley joined her for the event, as did her good friend, Melissa Claire Egan.

A day before the party, the couple showed at a Golden Globes party. Stause shared photos from the award ceremony on social media and nothing seemed amiss. Little did anyone know that Hartley was thinking about breaking up the entire time.

Stause breaks her silence

Stause and Hartley have been fairly quiet about the divorce, despite the drama it has caused on social media. That said, Stause did post a comment alluding to her split on December 2. She did not mention the This Is Us star by name, but her quote from Nishan Panwar said enough.

“It’s hard to watch people change right in front of you. But it’s even harder remembering who they used to be,” she wrote.

The actress later removed the tags “stepmom” and “wife” from her social media accounts.

Hartley, on the other hand, has yet to say anything about the divorce. On December 5, he was spotted working on a photoshoot and was not wearing his wedding band. The sighting all but confirmed that the breakup rumors were true.

Stause and Hartley dated for four years before they tied the knot in the fall of 2017. His first marriage was to Lindsay Hartley, with whom he shares a daughter, Isabella.

Hartley enjoys a night out

While we wait to learn more about the divorce, Hartley recently enjoyed a night out on the town with some good friends.

The This Is Us star was spotted at Jennifer Klein’s holiday bash in Los Angeles. Inside sources say he mingled with a bunch of his friends, including Josh Duhamel and Audra Mari.

He was reportedly one of the last guests to leave the party and hung out at Klein’s home until midnight.

On Monday, Chrishell posted a cryptic quote to Instagram, which read, “It’s hard to watch people change right in front of you. But it’s even harder remembering who they used to be.”

Chrishell cited Nishan Panwar for the quote, but many speculated that the message was in reference to Hartley.

Another added, “Been through this! Keep your head up and keep moving forward! Time does heal! Surround yourself with the people that got you and we’ve all got you!”

The This Is Us star filed for divorce from his wife of two years in late November. The couple had been spotted at a Golden Globe party together just days before and showed no signs of a split.

A source previously told ET, “People close to Justin and Chrishell are completely shocked by Justin filing for divorce. The couple has always been incredible with no signs of things being on the rocks. Friends are speculating this was an impulse on Justin’s side due to something that happened, and are hopeful the couple can work things out.”

However, according to documents obtained by ET, Justin listed the date of separation as July 8, 2019. Justin has not publicly commented on the divorce filing, but he was spotted out without his wedding ring just one day after filing.

“Yes, they’d had some problems, but she certainly never thought he would just go and suddenly file for divorce, and not even try to save things,” the source says. “He’s reached a new level of fame thanks to the show and he doesn’t want to close many doors right now, and that’s not necessarily the path Chrishell is looking to take. She thought babies would happen soon after they got married, but it just hasn’t worked out.”

PEOPLE is out to reps for both actors.

According to the source, Hartley’s divorce filing has Stause feeling as though “Justin never took their marriage seriously at all.”

“Justin has already been married, and divorced, once before. But Chrishell had been in other serious relationships in the past, like with Matthew Morrison, and didn’t take them further because she was always adamant that when she got married, it would be forever — she was only going to do this once. It’s partly why she and Justin waited so long to get married: she wanted to be sure that when they said their vows, they meant them. And she did — she would have stayed forever,” the source adds.

“She was his staunchest supporter and would’ve had his back through anything,” the source explains.

An additional insider points out that Stause is not the only one upset that their relationship has ended.

“Justin is obviously very disappointed that his marriage didn’t work,” the insider says.

The insider adds that the couple’s work schedules often kept them apart: “Justin and Chrishell are both focused on their busy careers.”

On Monday, Stause shared a cryptic quote on Instagram about dealing with change, less than two weeks after news broke that the This Is Us star filed for divorce.

“It’s hard to watch people change right in front of you. But it’s even harder remembering who they used to be,” read the quote, attributed to author Nishan Panwar.

In documents obtained by PEOPLE, the This Is Us star cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their divorce, and listed the date of their separation as July 8, 2019 — despite the fact that the pair attended the Emmy Awards together on Sept. 22, the Veuve Clicquot Polo Match in Los Angeles on Oct. 5, and a Hollywood Reporter-sponsored pre-Golden Globes party on Nov. 14.

Stause shared some photos from the Golden Globes event on Nov. 15, writing in her caption, “Amazing time with this group last night at the @hollywoodreporter @moetchandon Golden Globe party!” In the series of snaps, she and Hartley posed alongside his NBC co-star Chris Sullivan and Superstore actress Lauren Ash.

The former couple also attended a friend’s birthday party together earlier in November, according to Stause’s Instagram.

A source previously told PEOPLE that Stause and Hartley had “been having trouble for a while,” adding, “in many ways, they’re somewhat fundamentally incompatible.”

“Chrishell is really ready to just settle down and be a wife and stay-at-home mom and was hoping to start a family relatively soon,” the source said. “Justin wants that but also doesn’t think it has to happen in the near future and is at a point in his career where he wants to really be able to explore all the options that are coming his way.”

Hartley married actress Chrishell Stause on October 28, 2017, exactly four years after they met. The couple began dating after a mutual friend suggested they meet. Hartley was working on the daytime soap The Young and the Restless while Stause was on another soap, Days of Our Lives. Stause and Hartley got the cutest couple award when Hartley was caught spreading the train of his wife’s gown at this year’s Golden Globes.

Stause attempted to play hard to get at the beginning, only allowing a kiss on the cheek after their first date. But she told People magazine that she immediately knew that Hartley was the one. She texted her friend the day after that first date simply, “I found him.”

Hartley told the magazine that he called Stause the day after their first date and they have been together ever since. Stause gushes, “They don’t make them any better than Justin, and I could not be more thrilled to officially be Mrs. Hartley!” And it looks like the This Is Us star feels the same, “At the risk of sounding cheesy, I look forward to sharing life experiences and growing old together. Someday, we can talk about all the things we did together 30 years ago!”

Hartley has been married once before

Before he married Stause, Hartley was married to another soap opera actress, Lindsay Korman. Korman and Hartley met while they were both working on the paranormal soap opera Passions. Korman played the hopeless romantic Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald and Hartley played the handsome boy from the town’s richest family, Fox Crane.

On screen, Theresa and Fox dated briefly, but Theresa’s heart was always meant for someone else. Offscreen, Hartley and Korman fell for each other fast. The two began dating in 2003 were married by 2004. Hartley left Passions in 2006 and Korman stayed with the show until it ended in 2008. The two worked together again when Korman guest starred on Hartley series Smallville in 2010. The couple got divorced in 2012 citing irreconcilable differences.

During their marriage, Hartley and Korman welcomed a baby girl, Isabella. Even though the couple divorced in 2012, they kept things about their daughter and opted for joint legal and physical custody.

Hartley gushed on a recent appearance on Ellen how he and his daughter still have a close relationship and how she still lets him drive her to school and even go in. He told Ellen that his agent recently approached Isabella and offered to represent her because she is such a great kid and has such a strong personality. But Isabella wasn’t sure if she was interested, stating that she had other things she was working on. Hartley joked that he told her, “Babe, it took me years to get anyone to pay attention to me…” He told Ellen, “She’s too cool for school.”

Hartley comments and his Instagram feed filled with pictures of his family leave no question just how much the star is wrapped around his baby girl’s little finger.

When This Is Us heartthrob Justin Hartley married actress Chrishell Stause on October 28, 2017, the ceremony was held at Malibu’s Calamigos Ranch on the fourth anniversary of their first date.

The two attended a concert together at the urging of a mutual friend. Chrishell, who has since changed her last name to Hartley, said it was love at first sight. “The next day I texted my friend: ‘I found him,'” she told People.

Justin’s This Is Us castmates, including Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, and Chrissy Metz, were on hand to help the couple celebrate their big day.

Justin, 41, stars on the critically acclaimed NBC series as the troubled Kevin Pearson, one of the Big Three at the heart of the show. This Is Us, which debuted in 2016, has become a cultural phenomenon, breaking ratings records and kicking Justin’s career into high gear (and it returns for a third season in September).

Longtime fans know he started out on a soap opera, logging four years on Passions before taking the role of Oliver Queen, aka the Green Arrow, on the CW series Smallville. In later years, Justin returned to soaps on The Young and the Restless and appeared on ABC’s Revenge and Mistresses. He’s also graced the big screen, most recently in 2017’s A Bad Moms Christmas.

Justin married fellow Passions alumni Lindsay Hartley (née Korman) in 2004, but the couple divorced in 2012. They share a daughter, Isabella Justice (Bella for short), born in 2004 and now age 14.

Chrishell, 37, is also an actress known for roles on soap operas All My Children and Days of Our Lives, and most recently played Bethany Bryant on The Young and the Restless. She’s also appeared on the web series Youthful Daze.

Although they’re only coming up on their first wedding anniversary, the two have settled into a comfortable, married life and enjoy spending time together at home when they aren’t working. “We really are all about staying in recently, cooking together, watching movies, and that sort of thing,” Justin told US Weekly.

He also knows the secret to starting his wife’s day off right. “I’m an early riser, so when I hear her coming down the stairs in the morning, I turn on the coffee maker for her and get espresso going,” he explained to the publication.

For her part, Chrishell helps her husband to stay on track with his fitness routine, he noted to People.

“She makes it easier. She’s a big motivational factor for me because she’s in such great shape,” Justin said. “I try to keep up with her. To have somebody in your life that can motivate you is really, really good.”

Building a life together is a top priority for the couple. As Justin told the publication after their wedding, “At the risk of sounding cheesy, I look forward to sharing life experiences and growing old together. Someday, we can talk about all the things we did together 30 years ago!”

‘This Is Us’: Justin Hartley’s Wife Chrishell Stause Posts Cryptic Message Amid Divorce News and Fans Are Rallying

Last month, This Is Us star, Justin Hartley, shocked many by filing for divorce from his wife of two years, Chrishell Stouse. It all happened a week after the pair attended the Golden Globes party where their marriage appeared to be fully in-tact. Now, the already contentious situation seems to have taken another turn. Here’s what we know.

When news first broke of the split, fans of Hartley took to social media to show their love and support of the This Is Us actor. According to court documents, Hartley listed the date of separation as July 8, 2019.

The date is significant because, since July, the couple has been to numerous outings together. All the way up to a week before Hartley filed, they appeared in public as a married couple.

They were spotted at the Emmy Awards on Sept. 22, the Veuve Clicquot Polo Match in Los Angeles on Oct. 5, and a Hollywood Reporter-sponsored pre-Golden Globes party on Nov. 14.

Hartley even posted a birthday tribute via Instagram on July 21, to his wife after the apparent separation date.

Stouse moved out of the marital home

Stouse laid low through the Thanksgiving holiday but on Dec. 6, she was spotted walking the couple’s dog in Los Angeles sans wedding ring. Days before that, the actress moved out of the marital home and into one of her own, according to People.

“Chrishell moved out of the house today that she shared with Justin. She is still in shock,” a source revealed. “There are so many things that she doesn’t understand. They don’t even agree on their separation date. It’s just a strange situation. But what she can do? She has no choice but to move on.”

Another source said Stause was blind sighted and she is “still reeling.”

“Yes, they’d had some problems, but she certainly never thought he would just go and suddenly file for divorce, and not even try to save things,” the source said.

The source continued, “He’s reached a new level of fame thanks to the show and he doesn’t want to close many doors right now, and that’s not necessarily the path Chrishell is looking to take. She thought babies would happen soon after they got married, but it just hasn’t worked out.”

Some things aren’t adding up

It’s important to note, Hartley and Stouse host a viewing party for Young and the Restless co-star (and Stouse’s best friend), Melissa Claire Egan, days before Hartley filed for divorce.

Stouse’s response to Hartley’s divorce filing claims a separation date of Nov. 22, 2019. That’s the same day Hartley filed for divorce and vastly different from the July date he initially stated.

She has since requested spousal support and for Hartley to pay her legal fees, but so far, reports say he does not want to. She also requested to change back to her maiden name. Ouch.

Aside from the fact that Stouse removed the “wife” and “stepmom” titles from her Instagram bio, she also posted a not-so-subtle jab at Hartley.

In the post, she quoted an inspirational writer from India, Nishan Panwar. It said: “It’s hard to watch people change right in front of you. But it’s even harder remembering who they used to be.”

Some of the supportive comments encourage Stouse to “stay strong,” with a lot of heart emojis.

“Thinking of you sweet girl,” one friend posted.

“Sending love to you,” Young and the Restless co-star, Tracy Bergmen, commented.

Many chimed in to let Stouse know she’s not alone.

Divorce is heartbreaking enough in normal circumstances but factor in celebrity-status and it gets even more complicated. Here’s to hoping the two can either work it out or walk away as friends.
