John travolta and olivia

John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John gave fans a major throwback on Friday. The pair reunited as Danny and Sandy from their classic movie “Grease” after more than forty years for the Meet n’ “Grease” singalong at the Coral Sky Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Newton-John donned a yellow pleated skirt with a matching cardigan, layered over a white button-down blouse to transform back into Sandy Olsson. Travolta returned to Danny Zuko’s roots and dressed head to toe in black, finishing his “greaser” look with a leather jacket.

“First time in costume since we made the movie !” Newton-John wrote in a photo caption on her Instagram page. “So excited!!”

Travolta shared the same candid photo with his former co-star along with plenty of other behind-the-scenes video clips of the fan event.

It wasn’t long before Newton-John had an outfit change to finish off her “Sandra Dee” makeover. People reported that the actress ditched the cardigan and pleated skirt for a leather jacket as well and black leggings, mirroring the movie finale, to join Travolta on stage for a Q&A session before the singalong.

Newton-John and Travolta are scheduled to take the singalong on the road and bring the show to Tampa’s MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre on Saturday night before wrapping up at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville on Sunday night.

Olivia Newton-John talks friendship with ‘Grease’ co-star John Travolta

Sept. 21, 201705:26

Though this was the first time the duo have come together in costume as the iconic lovebirds Danny and Sandy, Newton-John and Travolta got the “Grease” gang back together in August of 2018 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film’s release.

The two broke out a few dance moves from “You’re the One That I Want” and took selfies with other Rydell High alums, Didi Conn, who played Frenchy and Barry Pearl who played her boyfriend, Doody.

The movie musical still holds a special place in many fans’ hearts 41 years later.

In November, Newton-John auctioned off 500 pieces of her own memorabilia in order to benefit her Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre in Melbourne. From her auction alone, she was able to raise $2.4 million for the cause.

One buyer in particular made Christmas come early for Newton-John. Wrapped in a hot pink gift box, he returned her iconic leather jacket from the movie’s final scene after he purchased it at auction for $243,200.

In a video posted on Julien’s Auctions’ Facebook page, Newton-John looks shocked and excited, immediately hugging the buyer to thank him for “the most beautiful present.”

The buyer said he wanted to return the jacket to “its rightful owner.”

“This jacket belongs to you and the collective soul of those who love you, those for whom you are the soundtrack of their lives,” he told Newton-John. “It should not sit in a billionaire’s closet for country club bragging rights.”

More than 40 years later and grease is still the word.

Despite being released in 1978, “Grease” still has a strong fanbase as evidenced by crowds gathering in Florida back in December for special “Meet ‘N’ Grease” singalong screenings of the film hosted by stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.

And at a fundraising event on Saturday, Jan. 25, Travolta, 65, gushed over the experience.

“It was one of the highlights of our lives to see the joy of people’s unrequited love happening from 40 years of people waiting to be with us,” told the press, according to Us Weekly.

Travolta and Newton-John, 71, both donned their 1950s-inspired costumes, leather jacket and cardigans included, for the screenings.

“It was awesome,” Travolta said of wearing the costume once again. “For whatever reason, like, the bald head suits me, so does that ’50s getup. So either I’m gonna go bald or wear a Danny ’50s hairdo. It suits my appearance.”

As to how the stars have maintained a friendship spanning several decades, Travolta’s answer was simple.

“I think we love each other and when you love someone you stay in touch,” he said.

Among the challenges the duo has faced together is Newton-John’s ongoing battle with cancer, which has spread to her bones after previously fighting off two bouts of the disease. Travolta, however, still feels optimistic.

“Olivia is a survivor and she’s smart and she’s got a lot of life in her,” said the “Hairspray” star. “I think she looks at it from the glass half full, always, and that’s her beautiful, natural approach toward life and I think we all need to do that.”

Newton-John also commented on her health.

“Life is a gift and I’ve had an amazing life and I intend to keep going with it and I want to help other people with cancer of course,” the “Physical” singer said, according to People magazine.

Newton-John said she’s “winning over it well” and “getting stronger and better all the time.”

“Tell me about it, Stud“. Oh Sandy!!!! Grease is one of my all time favorite movies and I’ve been dying to recreate Sandy’s iconic look. This is a fairly simple hair tutorial + Halloween costume that can be put together last minute. I snagged these leather leggings on Amazon and then already had the top, belt, red shoes and leather jacket. If you don’t have leather leggings, just wear black pants, people will totally get the idea and with a bold red lip and the fabulous 50’s hairstyle you’ll be lookin’ fabulous in no time.

You’re going to need a few things to get started and I’m so lucky to be working with Goody on this post! Their accessories and styling tools are so affordable and can be purchased online or at any drugstore. You’re going to need: a brush, a side comb, a claw, a couple bobby pins and curl clips or sectioning clips work too!

Can we just talk about how pretty this Clean Radiance Paddle Brush from Goody is for a quick second? It has copper bristles that reduce product buildup and a flexible cushion pad for added comfort! This brush totally plays into my love affair with white so I’m just a tad bit obsessed! I washed my hair last night and let it air dry so before getting started I’m quickly brushing through the snarls so we can get right to work.

1// Using a goody claw or clip, bring all the hair leaving out a small section near the nape of the neck. Start with small sections and twirl the hair around an 18mm curling wand.

2// Once the hair is warm, coil the curl into the palm of your hand

3// Push the curl against your scalp and secure it with a sectioning clip or curl clip

4// Repeat all around the head! When you’re finished you can go grab a snack or finish your makeup, but wait just a few minutes before pulling all the clips out. The longer you wait the tighter the curls!

5// Then you’re going to take your goody side comb

6// Sweep a section of hair up and secure the side comb.

Run your fingers through the curls or even take your paddle brush to them again to make them look soft. If your hair is long like mine, you’re gonna want to take a couple bobby pins and roll the length under. You can also secure the bangs with a bobby pin if needed.

Make sure to throw on your favorite red lipstick, a sassy attitude and you’re ready to go!!! If you need some more instruction, you can watch the video tutorial below!

  • Grease co-stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John treated fans in Florida to three sing-a-long screenings of their iconic 1978 film this weekend.
  • For the occasion, John and Olivia recreated Danny and Sandy’s iconic looks.
  • John’s fans couldn’t stop commenting on his Instagram post from the weekend, in which the normally bald star can be seen with a full head of hair.

We’ve got chills, and they’re multiplying! This weekend, Grease co-stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John made all of their fans’ dreams come true when they came together for three sing-a-long screenings of their iconic film, 41 years after its original 1978 release.

John and Olivia announced the special screenings back in October, after John got fans buzzing earlier in the year by teasing that the former co-stars were “trying to do something together.” That “something” finally came to life with the “Meet ‘N’ Grease” sing-a-longs, where die-hard fans got the chance to celebrate Grease at three massive Florida viewing parties.

Throughout the weekend, both John and Olivia took to Instagram to post about the events. On Friday, for example, John shared a whole gallery of snaps and clips from the first “Meet ‘N’ Grease” screening in West Palm Beach:

The roundup of pictures and videos showed John and Olivia walking hand-in-hand with their full Grease costumes, getting excited about the crowd, and walking out on stage to an eruption of cheers. All fans could seem to notice, however, was one thing: John’s hair.

For about a year, John has rocked a bald, shaved-head look full-time, so the head of hair that he sported for the screenings seemed to take his followers by surprise: “Where did you borrow the hair from?” one fan commented. “How did you grow hair 🤣,” another joked. “He has his hair back and he looks the same,” wrote a third.

Of course, it seems safe to assume that the hair John sported at the screenings was a wig, as just earlier this month he was making TV appearances with a completely shaved head. And besides — real hair or not, John still totally rocks the Danny Zuko look all these years later, as was evidenced by the many compliments he also received from fans in the comment section.

“John you are just as GORGEOUS as back then!!!” one fan commented on his post. “Danny, you’re cooler than ever!” wrote another.

At the end of the day, fans seem to be ecstatic that the co-stars took the time to reunite and celebrate the film, and that their friendship still seems as real and strong as it did back in the ’70s. Perhaps John said it best in his Instagram caption, “Grease is still the word.” Indeed, it is.

John Travolta And Olivia Newton-John Dressed Up As Sandy And Danny From ‘Grease’

Danny and Sandy, is that you?

“Grease” co-stars and long-time friends Olivia Newton-John, 71, and John Travolta, 65, hosted an intimate “Meet n’ Grease” singalong and Q&A session with fans at the Coral Sky Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, Florida, over the weekend. The event was like a Rydell High School Reunion, with Newton-John and Travolta even appearing in full costume, reviving their characters Sandy Olsson and Danny Zuko.

It’s been more than 40 years since the release of “Grease,” the 1978 hit musical and romantic comedy that was packed with summer lovin’, drama and some stellar tunes and dance moves. In addition to the West Palm Beach event, Newton-John and Travolta also appeared at similar events in Tampa and Jacksonville.

Newton-John posted a photo to her Instagram account (@therealonj) from the West Palm Beach event and captioned it: “First time in costume since we made the movie! So excited!!”

Channeling that “good girl” image from the movie, Newton-John is wearing a buttery yellow skirt and matching cardigan. Travolta is wearing a signature black leather moto jacket that is so “Danny.”

Newton-John recently auctioned off memorabilia from “Grease,” including some of the most famed pieces she wore in that memorable “You’re the One That I Want” closing act. The money went towards the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre. Newton-John’s iconic leather jacket sold for $243,200, but it was returned to Newton-John so she could put it on permanent display at her research center in Melbourne, Australia.

“The odds of beating a recurring cancer using the newest emerging therapies is a thousand-fold greater than someone appearing out of the blue, buying your most famous and cherished icon, and returning it to you, which is what I’m going to do right now,” the media tech entrepreneur who bought the jacket told Newton-John in an emotional video.

Newton-John founded the cancer center during her first battle in 1992, according to People magazine. She overcame cancer once again in 2013 but, in May 2017, she was told the cancer had metastasized and spread to her bones.

In People’s “Grease”-themed 40th-anniversary special edition issue, Newton-John and Travolta talk about their long-lasting friendship, with Newton-John saying that her Grease co-star always reaches out during tough times.
