Spiewak and Parsons have been in a relationship for more than a decade before finally marrying in 2017.

Todd Spiewak Bio: Early Life, Family and Education

Todd grew up in his hometown of Boston while his partner was raised in Houston, Texas. While Jim Parsons was determined from a young age that he wanted to become an actor and nothing else, it took quite some time for Todd to figure out what he wanted to do in his life. Eventually, as he was a person with artistic aspirations. he decided to venture into the world of graphic design. Having matriculated from high school he enrolled at Boston University, graduating in 1999 with a Bachelor’s degree of Fine Arts in graphic design. At the same time, young Jim Parsons matriculated from Klein Oak High School in Houston, and enrolled at the University of Houston. When Todd was graduating, Jim become one of only seven students accepted into a specialized course in classical theater at the graduate program of the University of San Diego. Following his graduation Todd moved to New York where he pursued a career in graphic design, and Jim moved to the Big Apple after he graduated from University of San Diego in 2001.

Career Beginnings and Meeting Jim Parsons

After settling in New York the young graphic designer struggled at first when it came to finding a stable job. He had to work as a freelancer for some time before he was able to build a reputation for himself that would enable him to land a permanent job. However, his hard work and patience finally paid off, and he landed several high paying gigs over the next couple of years. Among the most notable companies he has worked with are American Express, Barnes & Noble and ‘The New York Times’. During his first years in New York, Todd met and fell in love with aspiring actor Jim Parsons. The two first met on a blind date at a karaoke bar in 2002, and felt and instant attraction – soon they started dating, and living together. Todd was a great support for Jim at the time when the young actor was still struggling to land good roles, however, it all changed for them in 2007 when Jim was cast as Sheldon Cooper in Chuck Lorre’s comedy series “The Big Bang Theory”. The show about a group of socially awkward nerds became a huge hit and brought international fame to its stars. Jim’s character Sheldon is considered to be the most popular and the most unique character on the show. Parsons was commended by critics and audiences alike for his performance of the brilliantly smart yet socially unskilled physicist. His role of Sheldon Cooper skyrocketed his career, and he was soon being cast in roles in big budget productions.

He also produced the family drama “A Kid Like Jake” in which his partner Jim played the role of Greg Wheeler. However, their most recognized collaboration is the ongoing television series “Young Sheldon”, created in 2017 as a spin-off of “The Big Bang Theory”, and focusing on the childhood years of Sheldon Cooper. The show became a hit and is currently slated for its fourth season in 2019 – Jim Parsons narrates the series while Iain Armitage plays the role of young Sheldon, and Todd is credited as executive producer on all four seasons of the show. In addition Todd produced a pilot episode of the comedy show “Special”, to be released in 2019.

The Big Bang Theory star married his longtime partner Todd Spiewak at the Rainbow Room in New York on Saturday night, his representative Jillian Roscoe confirmed to USA TODAY. New York Post’s Page Six first reported the nuptials Sunday.

In November, Parsons posted on Instagram that he met graphic designer Spiewak 14 years earlier, and “it was the best thing that ever happened to me, no contest.”

Parsons, 44, came out as gay in a 2012 New York Times article that referenced his work in the Broadway play The Normal Heart. The play centered on gay men dying of AIDS in New York in the 1980s.

Parsons’ real-life wedding occurred just days after his popular Big Bang character, Sheldon, proposed to Amy (Mayim Bialik) on Thursday’s Season 10 finale of the series, which has been extended for two seasons. Big Bang has been such a ratings hit for CBS that a spinoff prequel called Young Sheldon is expected in the fall.

Co-creator Chuck Lorre says the growth of the relationship between Sheldon and Amy and others — resulting in breakups, marriages and a baby — is a key to the success of Big Bang (averaging 18.7 million viewers).

“The best way to explore a character is to put that character into a relationship,” says Lorre. “We started with these (brilliant scientists) who were extremely stunted in terms of their ability to connect with other human beings, especially women. And look where we are now. It’s kind of mind-boggling.”

Parsons, who has won four Emmys for playing Sheldon, says of the plot development, “It worked out beautifully, it’s the same thing with life-changing storylines. I’ve never felt they were done at a time when we we were starving for something.”

As for Young Sheldon, which focuses on the genius’ Texas upbringing and features a new cast and no studio audience, Parsons will narrate the series, set to air this fall right after Big Bang.

“It’s more of an origins story than a close cousin to Big Bang,” he says. “It’s more like the beginnings of a superhero, which in this case is a genius nerdy kid.”

Mayim Bialik, Jim Parsons Reunite for Fox Comedy

“In pursuing a hand-crafted approach to our scripted development, Charlie and I knew Carla, written by Darlene Hunt, was a project with great potential that could become the centerpiece of our comedy slate — and Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik coming to Fox Entertainment is obviously an enormous part of that equation,” Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn said Thursday in a statement. “Carla is an unapologetically big, broad multicam with a strong female point-of-view, pushing the format in a way that will be distinctive. With the A+ creative team, our partners at Warner Bros., led by the inimitable Peter Roth, and BBC Studios, we think we have something truly special here.”
The potential series arrives as Fox is looking for programming with broad-skewing appeal after abandoning its niche comedies. Bialik is a broadcast veteran with proven star appeal after an Emmy-nominated turn on CBS’ Big Bang Theory. Should Carla move forward, it would give Fox an easily marketable star at a time when top talent is in high demand. Plus marketing a show that counts two of the stars from one of the most proven comedies of the past decade would easily give the network a way to cut through the cluttered landscape. Big Bang Theory signed off in May after a 12-season run as broadcast’s most-watched comedy among total viewers and the all-important adults 18-49 demographic.

Jim Parsons Explains Why He and Todd Spiewak Waited Nearly 15 Years to Get Married

Jim Parsons and his husband Todd Spiewak were together for nearly 15 years before they decided to finally tie the knot earlier this year — and according to the Big Bang Theory actor, it was well worth the wait.

The four-time Emmy winning actor stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday where he explained why they waited so long to get married.

“We just didn’t care about the act of it that much, to be honest with you,” said Parsons, 44. “That sounds cold in a way but I finally thought: ‘Well, let’s have a party then for the celebration and we’ll go ahead and legalize this thing.’ “

The trip down the aisle ended up being much more special than he had anticipated.

“It was so much more meaningful in the moment for me than I predicted, and it’s been resonantly much more meaningful than for me afterward than I ever saw coming,” he said. “You know, I had been an adult gay person for so long at a time where that wasn’t possible where life was ‘fine’ for me.”

Parsons and Spiewak, a graphic designer, said their “I dos” in May at the Rainbow Room in New York City.

“It was fantastic … much more fun than I thought it would be,” he told Extra days later at the CBS upfront presentation. “I wasn’t too nervous, just a lot to organize and I thought, ‘Well, this will be sort of fun … Let’s get through this,’ then it was all fun.”

“It was the latest I stayed up in many years,” he added. “I’ll be honest with you — I’m still paying for it. I got a cold, I was at the doctor earlier and got antibiotics.”

Marriage, it turns out, had changed things for Parsons — who in November will celebrate 15 years with Spiewak.

“I don’t know in a specific day-to-day sense what it is — I don’t know that there is anything. There is an underlying buzz of a thing,” he told Colbert. “And I keep reminding myself of it. Like, I kind of forget and then I’m like, ‘We really did it! We’re a legal thing, just like Mom and Dad were or whatever.’ “

He went on to describe the sensation he feels being married, one that he equates to a sense of “divinity.”

“To be in love, to find a love in that way, is as close to anything I can imagine doing in life that brings me close to the feeling of God — or whatever that is for you,” he said.

“When we first got together, I remember lying in bed and closing my eyes but not being asleep. And that sensation of ‘light.’ I was like, ‘I don’t know what’s going on exactly, but it’s sort of close to eternal,’ ” Parsons continued. “My dad had passed a couple of years before I met Todd. And I remember very early on that sensation I would have when I closed my eyes and I felt that light, it was like, ‘Oh that’s him.’ He’s going like, ‘Hi, I see. All good. This is a great thing.’ And it both was and it wasn’t, obviously … but I still feel that now. Maybe not as often, because life gets in the way. But sometimes that sensation in closing the eyes and going, ‘This is so close to God.’ “

While Parsons admitted to Colbert he “didn’t know any other word for it,” Colbert had an answer.

“Love,” the 53-year-old talk show host responded.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights (11:35 p.m. ET) and The Big Bang Theory returns Monday at 8 p.m. ET, both on CBS.

Jim Parsons married his longtime partner Todd Spiewak in New York City this past May, and now the Big Bang Theory star is opening up about the celebration.

Parsons talked about the couple’s decision to marry after being together for almost 15 years on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “I didn’t really think we cared that much about the act of it, to be honest,” the actor said. “I finally thought, let’s have a party, then, for the celebration, and we’ll go ahead and legalize this thing… It was so much more meaningful in the moment to me than I predicted and it’s been resonantly more meaningful to me afterward than I ever saw coming.”

“Big Bang Theory” Star Jim Parsons Hosted an Unplugged Wedding

He noted that he didn’t necessarily feel pressure to wed throughout his decade-and-a-half relationship. “I had been an adult gay person for so long at a time where wasn’t possible, that life was ‘fine’…I got along fine, and our relationship did,” Parsons explained.

Colbert asked him how saying “I do” has changed his relationship. Though Parsons said he couldn’t quite place what was different, he said he knows there’s an “underlying buzz,” and that he keeps reminding himself he’s married. He added, “I kind of forget, and then I’m like… we’re a legal thing just like mom and dad were!”

The most significant thing about marriage, Parsons says, is the feeling of being closer to some kind of higher power. “There’s this sense of divinity… to be in love, to find love in that way is as close as anything I can imagine doing in life, that gives me the feeling of being close to ‘God’ or whatever that is for you.”
