Is pippa middleton engaged?

Who is Pippa Middleton’s fiancé?

Royal watchers had a new in-law-in-waiting to gossip about Tuesday, with the news that Pippa Middleton is engaged to marry her financier boyfriend, James Matthews, next year.

Sister Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, and brother-in-law Prince William are delighted, according to a palace statement.

But who is Matthews? He’s 40, handsome and rich, a former race car driver-turned-hedge fund manager at Eden Rock Capital Management in London, where he made his millions. British celebrity reporters are no doubt digging further into his background now, but there’s a fair bit known about him, according to the profiles already landing.

The Evening Standard speculated that Pippa’s nephew, Prince George, who turns 3 on Friday, might serve as a page boy at the wedding. Other media outlets rushed to acquire pictures of Pippa, 32, leaving her London home Tuesday, her octagonal diamond engagement ring flashing on her left hand.

If Matthews sounds familiar, that’s because he’s Pippa’s longtime pal and an ex-boyfriend; the pair dated briefly back in 2012, and he only returned full time to Pippa’s life in 2015.

Pippa Middleton is engaged to financier James Matthews

“He’s one hell of a catch!” read one headline in the Daily Mail story by longtime royal correspondent Richard Kay, who was first to report the engagement late Monday.

Pippa and Matthews have charity work in common: Since her writing career stalled, Pippa has raised money for her fiancé’s family charity, the Michael Matthews Foundation, which was set up to fund children’s education (in Nepal, Thailand and Africa) in memory of his brother: In 1999, Michael became the youngest Brit to summit Mount Everest, then died on the descent. His body was never found.

Her connection to the charity has spurred Pippa to undertake several sporting challenges, including a 2014 bike ride across the USA and a 47-mile aquathon in Sweden.

Besides their love of sports, they have other things in common: Like the Middletons, Matthews descends from a working-class family, with parents who reached the wealthy middle class by working hard and being smart about money (his father started out as a mechanic). Like the Middletons, the Matthews family is “a shining example of the social fluidity of modern Britain,” Kay proclaimed.

Also like Pippa, who has a colorful and controversial maternal uncle, Gary Goldsmith, Matthews has a colorful and controversial younger brother, Spencer Matthews, a reality TV star in the U.K. who claimed in his memoir, Confessions of A Chelsea Boy, to have slept with 1,000 women. Spencer was photographed snorting cocaine in 2012 and was recently banned from ITV’s I’m A Celebrity after acknowledging he was taking steroids.

But James is nothing like Spencer; he’s described as serious and low-key, which is sure to please the young royals, not to mention the Middleton parents, Carole and Michael, who also expressed delight at the news of the engagement. (Brother James Middleton, who is close to both sisters, has not yet been heard from.)

Pippa has had an active romantic life since 2011, when she and her curves caught eyes as the bridesmaid at the royal wedding of Will and Kate.

“The engagement brings the curtain down on … Pippa’s search for love, which has been mesmerizing us ever since that debut in her slinky Alexander McQueen frock outside Westminster Abbey nearly crashed Twitter,” Kay reported.

Her boyfriend at the time of the wedding, star cricket player-turned-financier Alex Loudon, disliked Pippa’s new celebrity, with a constant pack of paparazzi trailing her, so they split and Pippa began hanging out with Matthews.

By 2013, she had fallen for another London financier, Nico Jackson; in September of that year, Sunday People, the weekend celebrity tabloid of the Daily Mirror, reported Pippa was secretly engaged to Jackson. False alarm.

Pippa Middleton might be secretly engaged?

By October 2015, the relationship with Jackson was over, after he moved to Switzerland for work. Soon the paparazzi were snapping her hanging out with Matthews again, turning up at his Chelsea mansion, strolling London streets, hitting Soho nightclubs and European ski slopes, taking in tennis at Wimbledon.

By New Year’s 2016, they were a couple, seen frolicking at the beach with her brother during a vacation on St. Barts at his parents’ exclusive hotel there, the Eden Rock.

Brother Spencer has said in the past that James isn’t a fan of the media, a sentiment that media-wary Prince William shares (James and the future king also attended the same exclusive school, Eton).

But also thanks to Spencer, James is already familiar with the spillover of media attention that comes with a celebrity relative. Now he’s going to have to adjust to living with the attention that comes with proximity to the royals.

Who Is Pippa Middleton REALLY Marrying? Here’s All You Need To Know About James Matthews

Who is this man who is going to be the the Duchess of Cambridge’s brother-in-law?

Dreams of that Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton romance we were all holding out for are now as far away from reality as a Friends reunion movie is.

That’s right, England’s most eligible bachelorette is now off the market. Pippa Middleton is engaged to hedge fund socialite James Matthews.

Whilst we are of course over the moon for the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister, we’ve not really heard too much about about this Matthews fella, so how do we know that he’s good enough for our Pips?

We’ve done some digging around and we’ve come to the conclusion that besides a Prince, they’re a match made in heaven! From his famous brothers to his parents’ five star hotel in the Caribbean, here’s all you need to know about the future brother-in-law to the future King.

The Love Story

Pippa, 32, who earned the title ‘Her Royal Hotness’ after she wore THAT figure hugging bridesmaid dress at the Royal Wedding back in 2011, first dated James, 40, back in 2012 but the romance only lasted for a few months. Pippa went on to date financer Nico Jackson for three years.

Then, newspaper reports suggest that the couple rekindled their romance in November when Pippa was pictured leaving his apartment with a bouquet of flowers in hand.

And as if it couldn’t get any more Kate and Wills, James apparently asked Pippa’s dad’s permission before popping the question whilst out on a romantic hike! Michael Middleton is reported to be ‘delighted’ with the match.

The Money Story

Socialite James works in finance and whilst it’s not known exactly how much he earns, in 2014 he bought a house in one of Chelsea’s swankiest streets for £17 million, which boasts a basement cinema and a car-stacking garage!

He comes from a wealthy family too – his parents of Eden Rock Hotel & Villas in St Barts in the Caribbean, which is often frequented by top celebs.

And you’ll have heard of his youngest sibling, Spencer Matthews, Made In Chelsea’s bad boy lothario. Whilst some may think it’s not appropriate for the Royal family to be linked with a reality TV star, others say that it’s a sign of the times and shows the gradual fluidity of society’s elite.

The ‘Outside Of Work’ Story

He’s super athletic. He enjoys swimming, skiiing and cycling and competes in marathons, which is partly why it’s a great match because Pippa is also into her sports. Earlier this year the couple competed in a 33 miles cross country ski race in Norway.

More nobly, he uses his passion for sports to raise money for charity. In 1999, his younger brother, Michael Matthews, died after becoming the youngest Briton to scale Mount Everest and his body was never found. James competes in endurance races to raise funds for a charity set up in his brother’s name.

There’s no doubt about it, meeting Pippa’s family is a daunting prospect for any suitor, what with her older sister being a Duchess and married to Prince William, not to mention the fact that her parents just happen to be the grandparents of the future King of England. But we reckon James can cope.

Despite having the same name as her brother, he’s got great credentials: he’s from a background similar, he’s got the respect of her parents, they both love the outdoors and – not that it matters – he’s loaded!

Congratulations Pippa! You’ve got yourself a keeper! Now the other Middleton sister will be able to enjoy married life.

Rise to Fame

After graduating in 2008, Middleton worked at a public relations firm, then as an event planner in London. She was often spotted out at London’s poshest nightclubs and on the arm of handsome young aristocrats.

It was Middleton’s sister, Kate, who changed the family’s fortunes for good. As a freshman at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, Kate befriended and began dating, a young Prince William.

As Britons paid close attention to the future king’s romance, Middleton became a familiar face. Often spotted out shopping with her sister, or partying with the same group of people at London nightclubs, Middleton’s good looks and sense of style earned her many fans, as well as critics. Dubbed the “wisteria sisters,” Kate and Middleton were criticized for what some perceived as social climbing. Seen out and about frequently, Middleton became a paparazzi favorite.

Royal Wedding

The November 2010 announcement of the engagement of Prince William and Kate caused a national frenzy in Britain. Always close to her sister, Middleton reportedly helped Kate plan many of the details of the royal wedding and the reception.

Bridesmaid Dress

When the much-anticipated wedding took place at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011, many eyes were on the bride’s younger sister — and Middleton, as the maid of honor, didn’t disappoint. Dressed in a slinky white dress by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, Middleton held her sister’s train and chatted with Prince Harry during the televised ceremony. Her beau, stockbroker and former cricketer Alex Loudon, sat beside her in the front row at the ceremony. The rave reviews of Middleton’s dress — and her figure — rivaled the enthusiasm for the bride’s gown.

Husband and Child

Middleton has been romantically linked to George Percy, the son of the Duke of Northumberland, and J.J. Jardine Paterson, the son of a banking family. She dated hedge fund manager James Matthews in 2012. After their split, she dated banker Nico Jackson from 2013 to 2015.

When Middleton and Jackson ended their relationship, she and Matthews began dating again. On July 17, 2016, Middleton and Matthews announced their engagement and plans to marry in 2017. Matthews is the son of Scottish nobleman David Matthews, the Laird of Glen Affric, an honorary title his son will inherit. When he acquires the title, Middleton will receive the title Lady Glen Affric.

The couple married on May 20, 2017, at St. Mark’s Church in the village of Englefield, near Reading. Big sister, Prince William, Prince Harry and other notables like tennis star Roger Federer were in attendance. Her nephew and niece, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, were page boy and flower girl.

In April 2018, it was reported that Middleton and Matthews were expecting their first child. The mom-to-be confirmed the news in June with a column in the publication Waitrose Weekend, titled, “Exercising during pregnancy.”

Middleton and Matthews welcomed their first child, a boy, on October 15, 2018.

Pippa Middleton, the younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge once dubbed “Her Royal Hotness,” is off the singles’ market after her boyfriend, James Matthews, popped the question over the weekend. Pippa, 32, was seen sporting a huge diamond engagement ring on her wedding finger as she headed out to enjoy the sunshine in London today.

The couple gave a brief statement confirming a report in today’s Daily Mail that Pippa’s millionaire entrepreneur boyfriend had popped the question during a romantic weekend in the Lake District. “Miss Pippa Middleton and Mr James Matthews are delighted to announce that they became engaged on Sunday, July 17, and plan to marry next year,” the couple said in a joint statement.

The happy news comes within a year of the couple’s courtship, and the engagement is said to have taken Pippa “completely by surprise,” according to friends. Says a source: “Things have got serious very quickly, but James just knew Pippa was the one and vice versa. Their close friends aren’t surprised by the news, just thrilled. Everyone is looking forward to a big wedding next year.”

While Bucklebury, the Middleton’s family home, will likely be an option when it comes to deciding on a venue, there could also be a wedding in St. Barth’s where the Matthews family own the stunning St. Barth’s Eden Rock hotel. Rumors are already swirling over who will be bridesmaids and whether Pippa will ask her sister, Kate, to be matron of honor.

Pippa memorably shot to fame in 2011 when she was head bridesmaid at the royal wedding. The younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge nearly stole the show in her figure-hugging silk Alexander McQueen gown and was crowned “Her Royal Hotness”—a label that has stuck.

Earlier today, Kensington Palace said that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were “absolutely delighted” by the news, and Pippa’s parents, Carole and Michael, told the press they were “thrilled” about the engagement. James, 40, took a leaf out of Prince William’s book and reportedly asked Michael for his daughter’s hand in marriage before popping the question.

“James is a traditionalist and very much wanted to do things properly,” a friend of the couple’s told the Daily Mail. “That meant getting the consent of his future father in law.”

There were rumors of an imminent engagement just weeks ago after Pippa and James were seen dining with Pippa’s mother, Carole, in Kensington. Both Carole and Michael are said to be fans of the wealthy hedge-fund entrepreneur, who owns a private jet and an impressive property portfolio. “They think he will make Pippa very happy, and they get on with him well,” according to a family friend.

Only weeks ago, the couple, who share a passion for outdoor sports and running marathons, were seen at Wimbledon, with onlookers remarking on their closeness and further fueling engagement rumors. Pippa and James dated briefly in 2012 before re-uniting last year after Pippa split from her then long-term boyfriend Nico Jackson. Their whirlwind romance quickly became serious and in the spring, Pippa moved into James’s Chelsea town house.

While the wedding won’t be as high profile as the royal wedding, there will be plenty of speculation, not least on the dress. Fashionistas are predicting that Jenny Packham, who has created a number of bespoke designs for the Duchess of Cambridge, will be top of Pippa’s wish list.

Congratulations are in order! Pippa Middleton is officially engaged to her longtime boyfriend, and financier, James Matthews.

The duo announced the good news on Tuesday to Britain’s Press Association, saying they are “delighted,” and plan to wed next year. So sweet!

Now for the good stuff.

The proposal happened on July 17, when Matthews got down on one knee while the couple was visiting the Lake District, a national park in northwest England, and presented Middleton with an art deco-style Asscher cut diamond ring with a central stone. (We were able to get a glimpse of the ring during one of Pippa’s outings today.)

Fameflynet

While it hasn’t been confirmed, jewelry experts tell The Telegraph that the ring is at least three carats. “The main stone appears to be around 3.5 carats with a total of 5 carats on the whole ring. The ring itself is platinum. The diamonds have an excellent clarity and white color, as you’d expect given who it has been made for,” said Sarah Sheard, manager and diamond expert at Hatton Jewels.

While Asccher cut engagement rings have a vintage vibe, they also have a modern edge. Jessica Alba and Gwyneth Paltrow’s rings were also this style, but no Asscher cut was more famous than Elizabeth Taylor’s, which was bought by her husband Richard Burton. Of course, we expect the style to make a major comeback thanks to Pippa.

The 32-year-old’s ring is definitely different than her sister Kate’s, which was an oval 12-carat Ceylon sapphire, that was also Princess Diana’s engagement ring.

And speaking of big sister Kate, she and Prince William released a statement saying they are “are absolutely delighted with the news” regarding Pippa’s engagement. And naturally, her parents, Michael and Carole, are also thrilled. “They make a wonderful couple and we wish them every happiness together.”

Middleton and Matthews first started dating in 2012, but split soon afterwards. Their romance rekindled in 2015, and has been strong ever since.

Now, excuse us as we spend the rest of the day dreaming of what Pippa — and Kate — will wear to the second biggest wedding of the decade.

Oh, in case you need a reminder of the biggest one of the decade…

Also, well mannered, perma-tanned from jaunts to the Caribbean and Ibiza, and close to their families, which usually reside in large gated houses with swimming pools and tennis courts less than an hour from London. It may be a stereotype, but it’s a relatively new and evolving one. And Pippa Middleton has become its poster child.

That said, it has hardly been easy for Ms. Middleton. Both she and her sister have regularly been referred to in aristocratic circles as the “wisteria sisters” — “highly decorative, terribly fragrant and with a ferocious ability to climb,” according to The Daily Mail.

“Pippa Middleton has actually been in a very tough position for a long time,” said Jo Elvin, editor in chief of British Glamour magazine. “Sneering at her for being rich and lazy had become a popular sport for the masses who relentlessly scrutinized her and everything she tried to do. Marrying was almost the only option left available to her, given she’s not on the royal payroll.

“Unlike her sister, who is heavily protected by certain guidelines upheld by press associations and an army of employees in terms of what can and cannot be written about her, Pippa had become fair game. I’m not sure many people actually envy her and the life she’s had to lead since the royal wedding.”

Certainly, both Ms. Middleton’s romantic relationships and her efforts to build a career for herself had come under more public examination than those of her younger brother, James. His latest start-up effort, Boomf, an exotic confectionery business specializing in “printed marshmallows,” and his dating of the TV host Donna Air have been largely overlooked by the national news media.

It was Pippa, not James, who garnered the unsolicited moniker of “Her Royal Hotness” thanks to her bridesmaid duties at the 2011 royal wedding — though Mr. Middleton had also played a starring role, albeit by doing a reading during the service. “The double standard between the two Middleton siblings is fueled by a good old-fashioned dollop of sexism,” Ms. Elvin said.

Pippa Middleton Is Engaged, Kate And William Couldn’t Be Happier

The rumors have been so rife about the romantic life of Pippa Middleton, younger sister of Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, and the failure of any of her relationships to achieve a ‘happy ending’ that royal correspondents referred to it as the “Pippa Problem” – one that required a solution for the sake of the image of her popular royal sister.

Now, finally, the desired event is in sight and the official announcement of her engagement to her multi-millionaire financier boyfriend, James Matthews, has triggered joyful celebration at Kensington Palace.

“Miss Pippa Middleton and Mr. James Matthews are delighted to announce they became engaged on Sunday, July 17, and plan to marry next year,” the pair said in a statement released Tuesday.

Outside her London home on the same day, Pippa – whose full name is Philippa Charlotte Middleton – showed off her diamond engagement ring to photographers, adding that “I could not be happier.” British press has reported that Matthews, 40, proposed to Pippa, 34, during a romantic trip last weekend to England’s Lake District.

Kensington Palace announced that “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are absolutely delighted with the news.”

Pippa who became an instant celebrity at the wedding of her sister to Prince William when she wore a famously figure-revealing white bridesmaid gown that “stole the show,” has been described as a socialite with writing ambitions. She worked without success for a short stint as columnist for the Daily Telegraph, published a party organizing book that didn’t quite work and has had to learn to adapt to the high-profile life that comes from being a “royal by association.” Constantly photographed and hounded by paparazzis, she has to live under the shadow of her ultra-famous royal sister, who one day will be the wife of the king.

She and Matthews are aficionados of extreme fitness, participating in some grueling competitions. Over the past year, she’s been training to become a sport nutritionist. She’s also involved in charity work along with her sister, with whom she is very close.

Duchess Kate Middleton’s future brother-in-law is an Eton-educated hedge fund manager who runs Eden Rock Capital Management, which he launched a decade ago and where he has amassed a considerable personal fortune. He named the company after the Eden Rock luxury hotel he and his parents own on the French island of St. Barts.

He’s no stranger to celebrity since his younger brother, Spencer, co-starred in the hit British reality show, Made in Chelsea and on I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!

In his memoir, Spencer wrote that he’s slept with more than 1,000 women and that he’s been addicted to steroids.

Their older brother, Michael, died tragically while hiking on Mount Everest. He was the youngest Brit to reach the top at age 22 before his death during the descent. In his memory, the family founded the Michael Matthews Foundation to provide education to children in remote areas. Pippa has supported a number of the sporting challenges and marathons organized to benefit the foundation.

The “Pippa Problem” has been compared many times with the “Harry Problem,” referring to the worry of the younger generation of Royals who would like to see Prince William’s younger brother married. While there had been a number of unsubstantiated rumors through the years involving Pippa and Harry in a “secret” relationship, the engagement announcement will finally put an end to those.

According to royal correspondant Tom Sykes, “The ‘Pippa Problem’ boiled down to the tricky question of what Pippa should or could actually do without being accused rightly or wrongly of ‘cashing in’ on her royal connections.”

Pippa and James had first dated in 2012 but split the same year. She then dated Nico Jackson until 2015. Last August, Matthews was seen at Pippa’s side during a Middleton family vacation at his parents’ hotel. They’ve been together this time for less than a year.

The wedding is already expected to be the social event of 2017.
