WHAT TO WEAR WITH WHITE JEANS – LET’S COUNT THE WAYS
As much as I love a stylish pair of white jeans the thing with white jeans is that they can be tricky to wear. At times they are not flattering and you always have to watch where you’re sitting. What to wear with white jeans is a question I get a lot so I’ve put together this guide to provide style tips, white jeans outfit advice, and some outfit inspiration!
I found my first perfect pair of jeans at LOFT. They are skinny, a little bit distressed, fit perfectly, and they are very affordable. LOFT also carries various sizes, petite, regular and curvy so if you haven’t found a pair of white jeans that you love I would suggest to go to the store and try on a variety to see which style fit you perfectly.
Also remember this shopping tip every time you’re buying a new pair of jeans, white or otherwise. If you can’t tell in 20 seconds whether or not the jeans look good on you… they don’t. You’ll know immediately when the jeans are perfect!
I collected all of the white jean outfits I’ve shared on the blog to create a resource for you to come back to whenever you need some white jeans outfit inspiration.

How to Wear White Jeans – Tips to Remember
White jeans of any kind are not the easiest to wear if you are curvy. They often make individuals look wider than they really are, because of the light color. But don’t despair; just follow these style tips to discover how you can wear white jeans and look your best!
1. The fit of the white jeans should be perfect: Not too tight, not baggy. A mid-rise, straight leg white denim jean is your best bet. If you can rock the skinny ankle pant, by all means, do so, but most women should stick to something more classic. For summer, you might want to invest in a cropped white jean, one that ends just two or three inches above the ankle.
2. The material of white jeans is important: While stretch denim is currently covering everyone’s derriere, you need to be careful with white jeans. Stick to a higher percentage of cotton in your white denim, 95% and above. This will allow you a bit of stretch, but not so much that it pulls and puckers, which on white pants is not a flattering look. And make sure to double check that the material is very thick, some white jeans can be see-through and that is the last thing you want!
3. Clean lines with minimal fuss: By this, I am referring to the shape of the clothing you’re pairing with the white jeans; proportion, color, and textures. In some white jeans outfit, I will wear a cropped denim jacket to emphasize my waistline, rather than a jacket that ends at the hips, which would make them look wider. Remember the proportion, balance, color, and fit. If you need more information on what I mean by that than read How to Look Stylish Everyday – Your 5 Step Checklist.
4. Shirts in or out? With white jeans, I recommend wearing your shirts primarily out. Tucking them in not only adds bulk, but the color of the top can show through the material. And, given the fact that white pants can add visual weight to your behind, tucking in a shirt and wearing a belt just adds emphasis to the area, which is not a good thing. Leave your shirts untucked, or just tuck a corner in for some added panache.
5. If you’re looking to dress up your white jeans make sure to select a pair that is not distressed and a classic cut: Pair your white jeans with a crisp button-up blouse or a beautiful bright flowy tip. For shoes, you could wear a classic pair of pointy toe flats to elongate your legs or pointy toe heels to really make you taller. Outfit examples below!
Keep these style tips in mind and you’ll create a stylish white jeans outfit!
Creating a Dressy White Jeans Outfit
If you’re looking to create dressy outfits with jeans take these four points into consideration when putting together your outfit.
1. Choose the right pair of white jeans: Go with a cut that you normally wear. If you like straight leg, wear straight leg, if you like boot cut, wear boot cut. Personally, I usually wear straight leg or skinny, they are my preferred style and it’s what I stick to.
Make sure they fit perfectly and look fabulous on you. White jeans are notorious with making you look a little wider than you really so make sure they really fit perfectly. I know I keep saying this, but it’s important.
2. Select a dressy shirt: Since we’re going for a dressed up outfit select a material that is “pretty.” Find a shirt in lace, chiffon, silk or similar. Pair the white jeans with a shirt that is more dressy than casual, you want a shirt that you think may be too dressy.
3. Wear dressy shoes: If you want to add a pop of color you can do it with your shoes! If you’re deciding to wear white jeans with a pretty black shirt then add some color with your shoes! Think fuschia, gold, blue or your favorite color. If you’re wearing dressy flats or heels make sure they are a pointy toe, as they will make you appear taller and leaner.
4. Complete the look with accessories: Gold jewelry adds warmth to this cold look. Since this white jeans outfit was more in the classic minimal side I wore gold earrings, necklace, bracelet, rings and even a crossbody with a gold chain. No holding back on the accessories. The blouse has a high neckline so I’m able to wear a long necklace that stands out against the black.
Wearing White Jeans Year-Round
While wearing white of any kind tends to be verboten during the winter months, that style rule has fallen by the wayside in the last decade or so. There’s no reason you can’t rock a pair of white jeans in November or February (or December and January, for that matter).
Denim is a hardy material and holds up well in colder months. You can pair them with a long-sleeve colorful tee and a cozy white-and-black oversized cardigan or try a light gray turtleneck and a black leather biker jacket. Swap out the flats for a pair of knee-high boots, booties, or even ankle boots. In fact, if you can wear it with blue denim jeans, you can probably wear them with white denim jeans as well.
The advantage of white denim over blue is that it tends to look dressier than blue jeans. Pair white jeans with a frilly blouse and tall sexy heels for date night. Top it off with a belted coat for warmth and you’re ready to go.
Springtime is the perfect season for white jeans. There is still a bit of chill in the air, often making pants a required item. White pairs well with the soft pastels of spring. Dress them down with a pair of white sneakers, t-shirt, and lightweight jacket or cardigan, or dress it up with a silk blouse and a pair of wedges.
When summertime rolls around, your white jeans will pair perfectly with a tank top and sandals, or a flirty halter top and embellished sandals. The summer outfits with jeans are endless!
The white jeans outfits are really only limited by your imagination. Which is why I put together this white jeans resource, to serve as your outfit inspiration! In fact, I’d venture to guess that 80% of the tops and blouses you own can be worn with your white jeans! As for shoes, unless they are heavy and clunky, most sandals, tennis shoes, flats, and heels will work well with a skinny pair of white denim pants.
What to wear with white jeans in the Winter
White jeans in the winter is no longer a bad thing. A pair of bright white pants while it’s chilly, foggy and gloomy outside can brighten up your mood. I’ve shared with you before what the “no white after Labor Day” doesn’t apply anymore. If you want to wear, white jeans go right on ahead. You might get a few remarks from the older demographic but with the right styling, those same people might cave in and say they like your white jeans outfit.
Only because the sun’s not shining doesn’t mean your outfit has to be the same. I love wearing white and bright colors on a rainy or foggy day. You should put together outfits that have the mood you want to reflect. You don’t have to wear muted colors or black all the time in the winter. If the weather is not what you’d like it to be put together an outfit that has light and color to it, so the outfit has a light feel to it as your mood. That’s what I always do.
Let’s review a few details that you should keep in mind next time you’re planning on wearing white jeans in the winter.
SELECT THE RIGHT COLOR COMBINATION
Choosing the right color combination for wearing white jeans in the winter is one of the most important things when it comes to putting together a stylish white jeans outfit in the winter.
A color combination that I love is white and gray. White jeans paired with a gray turtleneck or sweater keep the white jeans from overpowering the outfit. Like in this outfit I would opt for a lighter gray than a dark charcoal gray. A light gray plays nicely with stark white jeans, going for a somewhat monochromatic outfit.
Add a gray and white scarf to your outfit to bring it up a notch. The white and gray scarf I added to this winter outfit brings the white jeans and gray turtleneck together for a perfect color balance.
PAIR YOUR WHITE JEANS WITH ANKLE BOOTS
When it comes to footwear you want to select shoes that are winter appropriate, so no sandals or wedges.
The best shoe option, in my stylish opinion, is ankle boots. As soon as the weather gets chilly I reach for boots! They are one of my favorite type of shoes, even more than pumps! Need some outfit ideas with boots view 20 Stylish Ways to Wear Boots. In this outfit, I opted for a pair of light brown ankle boots. Again I paid attention to the color of the boots. I went for something light to keep with the theme and not to bring the eyes down rather have a cohesive look.
When wearing ankle boots with white jeans in the winter make sure to roll up your jeans to just about the top of the ankle boots. If you decide to wear white bootcut jeans, then select an appropriate length, not too long or short.
ADD A SCARF FOR GOOD MEASURE
To give your outfit that wintery feel add on a scarf. Make sure the scarf matches the colors in your outfit and select something warm. Opt for a large blanket scarf or large wool scarf. If you need more scarf inspiration check out, 27 Stylish Ways to Wear a Scarf!

Cute Outfits With White Jeans
Now that we’ve gone through how to wear white jeans and how you can wear white jeans year-round, let’s get into the outfits ideas! The following sections are ideas on what you can wear with white jeans in the spring, summer, fall, and winter. I separated each outfit by season so it’s easier to go to the season you need ideas for or you can just scroll through and pin your favorite outfits for future reference!
Summer Outfits with White Jeans
Blue Cropped Denim Jacket with White Jeans
As I mentioned, white jeans can be paired with almost anything, but because we were at a lake, I chose a subtle nautical theme. The blue-and-white striped boatneck tee is an updated version of what French Breton sailors used to wear. I topped it off with a light-wash denim cropped jacket, black ballet flats, and dark sunglasses.
I like the light blue of the jacket as a contrast to the deep navy of the stripes in the shirt. It also keeps the color palette relatively light and perfect for the day we had. Each item is a classic in itself, and all are versatile pieces that can be mixed and matched with other items while traveling, making packing a bit easier.
These classic pairings make the outfit timeless. It wouldn’t be out of place 10 years ago and it will still be fashionable 10 years from now. This is why you should always invest in a base wardrobe of classics. You’ll get much more use out of them in the long run, not to mention they can still be paired with items of clothing that are on trend now.
When these four classic items are combined they create a classic and stylish white jeans outfit that works year round.
Polka Dots & Pop of Red
Nothing like getting a little patriotic and going red, white and blue. The funny thing is that I’m wasn’t going for a patriotic outfit it just ended up that way.
Pairing your white jeans with a chiffon blue polka dot shirt with matching polka dot flats will create a fun outfit that can be worn throughout summer. For an added bit of color and texture, I added a bright red leather handbag.
Outfit Formula: Blue Polka Dot Blouse + Blue Polka Dot Flats + Red Handbag = Stylish 4th of July Outfit (that can also be worn any other day)
Tie-dye, Heeled Sandals and Matching Patent Handbag
Pairing white jeans with a light blue tie-dye tank top will immediately make you stand out if that’s what you’re looking for! In this white jeans outfit, I wore a bright tie-dye tank top in many shades of blue with coordinating sandals and patent handbag.
This outfit is perfect for late night drinks with the girls or date night with the boyfriend. White and blue is a perfect duo as you’re starting to see.
Outfit Formula: Tie-dye tank top + Matching Heeled Sandals + Matching Patent Handbag = A Standout Outfit!
Nude Heels & Crochet Sweater
If you don’t want to go all the way and wear all white then you can try an outfit like this. White jeans paired with neutrals.
I this white jeans outfit I paired nude pumps with a light cream crochet sweater. This sweater has a lot of texture and it can look perfect worn on its own but you need to layer I would suggest a denim jacket or white blazer.
Outfit Formula: Nude Heels + Cream Crochet Sweater = Stylish Neutral Summer Outfit
Flowy top & Stylish Summer Sandals
Yes, these pants have a pattern but I’m going to say that they are white too because patterned jeans are just as or if not more difficult to wear white jeans.
This is an outfit I wore wine tasting in Napa, Ca. I wanted the outfit to look casual yet dressy and stylish. I wore a blouse that matched a color from the jeans and a stylish pair of summer sandals. In this outfit, I coordinated the color of the handbag and the sandals.
Outfit Formula: Summer Sandals + Neutral Top + Matching Handbag = Stylish Wine Tasting Outfit
Fuchsia Top & Mint Clutch
Make your white jeans look even whiter by pairing them with a bright fuchsia top. In this summer outfit, I paired the white jeans with a fuchsia tank top and sheer fuchsia blouse for a fun summer outfit.
I added a fuchsia accent to the mint clutch and completed the outfit with a cute pair of summer sandals.
Outfit Formula: Fuchsia Tank Top + Fuchsia Sheer Blouse + Fuchsia Accents + Mint Clutch = Fuchsia Love
Winter Outfits with White Jeans
Cute Winter Outfit with White Jeans
In this white jeans outfit, I paired my white jeans with dark colors. The color scheme was black, white, and blue. I like the contrast between the dark saturated colors and the bright white pants. It makes the darks appear darker and the white pants even whiter.
I paired the white pants with black flats, black handbag, a black and white striped shirt and layered a dark blue embellished sweater.
A few outfit details to note; the pullover sweater has a 3/4’s sleeve and an embellished neckline. The jewels on the neckline made it, so I didn’t have to wear a necklace, and that’s a good thing for these type of sweaters because I would advise not to wear a sweater with a crew neck.
The striped shirt has black cuffs, so when I folded the cuffs up around the sweater the dark on dark looked fantastic. I wanted the collar and bottom of the shirt to peek out from under the sweater, so there are another dimension and pattern to the outfit.
Lastly, I added a large jeweled cuff and silver ring to complete this white pants outfit.
7. Long Coat, Bright Heels & Gold Accessories
Do you want to wear your white jeans during the winter? I did! So this is the outfit I put together. I must mention that I live in California so the winters are not that bad here. Hence the open-toed shoes.
Pair your white jeans with a contrasting long black coat and scuba shirt for a dramatic effect. The pop of color in the outfit are the heels. A little leopard print and fuchsia can go a long way in a winter look. I finished off the look with gold accessories and my favorite sunglasses.
Outfit Formula: Long Contrasting Coat + Black Scuba Shirt + Gold Accessories + Bright Heels = Stylish White Jeans Winter Outfit
Fall Outfits with White Jeans
Olive Green Jacket Outfit
Here is a white pants outfit I wore to the California Coast on a chilly weekend. I wore a long sleeve button down, and the military green jacket and I was still a little cold.
When it comes to wearing white jeans my favorite ways to wear white jeans is pairing them with neutrals. This combination is the easiest and safest way to create a casual and stylish white jeans outfits that work for every day.
I paired the white distressed denim with a light blue button-down that peeked out from the back of the jacket and the jacket sleeves. A dark olive green military jacket that gave the outfit a little more attitude but still kept it casual. If I were to have worn a blazer, the outfit would have moved into the dressy side.
Lastly, I wore light brown ankle boots that match the light brown cloth belt. I wanted to keep the natural feel of the outfit, so I made sure that all the colors were nature colors and that the material and played along with the theme.
Brown Ankle Boots, Military Green Jacket & Chambray Shirt
Do you want to wear your white jeans in the Fall? Roll them up and pair them with ankle boots!
In this everyday Fall look, I paired the white jeans with a chambray button down and layered a military-style jacket over it. I finished off the outfit with a pair of ankle boots and black crossbody.
Outfit Formula: Military Green Jacket + Ankle Boots + Chambray Shirt = Fall Perfection
Spring Outfits with White Jeans
Black and Gold White Jeans Outfit
Wearing white jeans doesn’t have to be a mystery. White jeans can be dressed up or down, worn during the weekend or date night and yes even after Labor Day. What to wear with white jeans is a question that arises often so today lets cover how you can dress up white jeans.
This is the outfit I wore during the day on Valentine’s Day which is why it’s more dressy than casual. I previously shared with you my evening Valentine’s Day outfit.
If you’re just starting to wear white jeans the easiest pairing you can do is black. A black and white outfit is chic and stylish and when you’re creating a dressed up look black and white is the simplest starting point.
Stripes, Denim Jacket & a pop of Mustard Yellow
I believe this is the easiest way to wear white jeans. Stripes, some light wash denim and a pop of color! This is an outfit you can wear in the springtime or summer. The bright pop of color brings some fun to the outfit and keeps the outfit from looking a little too plain.
Outfit Formula: Striped tee + Light Wash Denim Jacket + Bright Clutch or Handbag + Flats = Easy Breezy White Jeans Outfit
When Can You Wear White
If you’re ready to be a little bit daring, how about going all white! It doesn’t matter if it’s before or after Labor Day wearing an all-white outfit is a stylish way to sport your favorite white jeans.
Wear a white tank top with a white blazer and if you have the white shoes. I don’t own any white shoes so I wore a pair of silver sandals with matching silver jewelry.
Outfit Formula: White Tank + White Blazer + Silver or White Sandals = No Fuss All White Outfit
Striped Button Down, Sexy Heels & Cute Satchel
Dressing your white jeans up and making them look more sophisticated is easily achieved with a button down. Pairing your white jeans with a striped button down and gray heels can make your white jeans office appropriate. This depends on your office dress code of course. If you do have a business casual dress code check out 20 Work Outfits – Decoding Women Business Casual, Style Tips & More for more office outfit inspiration.
I wore a bold striped shirt with contrasting cuffs so the outfit had a little more attitude. I finished off the outfit with a cute salmon colored satchel. A pop of color can make all the difference!
Outfit Formula: Striped Button Down Shirt + Textured Heels + Bright Satchel = Office Appropriate White Jeans Outfit
Floral Bolero & Coordinating Accessories
If you’re looking for an easy breezy outfit for a spring or summer day pair your favorite pair of white jeans with a bolero and white tank top.
I coordinated the handbag with the blue of the bolero and the orange in the sandals match the pop of color in the floral pattern. Always make sure your items coordinate and you’ll have an outfit that looks put together.
Outfit Formula: Floral Bolero + White Tank Top + Matching Handbag + Summer Sandals = Easy Breezy Summer or Spring Outfit
Green Jacket Outfit
You could also wear your favorite white jeans while road tripping it! The trick with road trip outfits is comfort and layers.
I paired the white jeans with olive green flats and a matching green military jacket. For a bit of glitz, I added a blue sequined tank top.
Outfit Formula: Military Green Jacket + Olive Green Flats + Sequined Tank Top = Outfit for the Road

White jeans — you know ’em, you love ’em, you wear them all year. They’re slimming, they’re stylish, and they replace your basic, boring blue jeans when you need to hit refresh on your wardrobe. Below, we share our seven favorite items to wear with our beloved white jeans:
1. With a Chambray Shirt
Source: Fashion Gum
White jeans and chambray tops just scream summer as much as ice cream or lime margaritas. Make the classic look your go-to for all summer barbecues or dress up for a night out with killer heels. The look can also transition into fall with a simple jacket or blazer thrown over the outfit to make it more apple-picking than barbecue.
2. With Bold Accessories
Source: Luella & June
Do you have an of-the-moment bag or totally crazy pair of earrings you adore but have no clue what to wear them with? Look no further than your faithful old pair of white jeans. They won’t dress down the outfit like a pair of blue jeans would, but they are an easy, neutral backdrop to a statement bag or eye-catching jewelry. Keep the rest of the look neutral so the accessories really stand out.
3. With All White
Source: Hayet Rida
All-black is a tried and true slimming secret (that’s no longer a secret), but I bet you haven’t heard the slimming benefits of all-white. It’s basically just as slimming as all-black, but can be worn in the summer months (without people thinking you’re a vampire), and looks extra refreshing and stylish. Plus, you’ll be showing off your great curves rather than hiding behind dark colors.
4. Under a Blazer
Source: Man Repeller
Tired of the same old pantsuit you wear to work every day? Swap your matching navy or black trousers for a pair of white jeans (or trousers) for a look that’s instantly trendy and appropriate to wear to work. Not to mention, white under a darker color blazer will lengthen your legs and might give you the confidence to rock that 9 am meeting or presentation (not that you need any help with confidence, but a good outfit can’t hurt!).
5. With A Checkered Shirt
Lumberjack-chic more your style? Give your white jeans a relaxed and casual feel with a checkered shirt. Any color of checkers would work because it’ll offset the bright freshness of crisp white jeans, looking a whole lot chicer than your typical checkered shirt and blue jeans. Wear with heels for a more sophisticated occasion, or dress down with ballet flats or booties.
6. With All-Black
Source: Seams for a Desire
Name a more iconic duo than black and white — I’ll wait. An easy go-to that is not typically thought of is pairing a simple black shirt and black heels with your white jeans (because we know you have all three of these staples in your closet). It’s the easiest outfit ever for a great night out, and everyone at the bar with the same old blue jeans and white top will be so endlessly envious of your stylish combo, they’ll never know how easy it was to throw together.
7. Under a Denim Jacket
Source: Take Aim
When summer starts to transition to fall or spring starts to transition to summer (or that office AC is brutal), you want to live in your denim jacket. So why not throw it on over a denim staple like your white jeans? It’s the easiest outfit ever, especially if you’re not partial to the Canadian tuxedo (blue denim, head to toe), but love the easiness of both jeans and a denim jacket. Say hello to your summer uniform.

FAQ: What to Wear With White Jeans
I’ve been thinking long and hard about how to BEST answer all your questions related to how to wear white jeans. I had a few different ideas on how to go about it but I ultimately decided that providing lots and lots of white jeans outfits (all in one place) would be the easiest and most beneficial way to address the topic for y’all. As such, I’ve gone through ALL my outfits with white jeans and am including several of them in this post to hopefully give you some inspiration for putting together your own white jeans outfits!
How to Wear White Jeans
Even though white is a color that goes with literally everything, it’s sometimes tricky to balance the starkness of white on bottom with the rest of your look. I definitely have some go-to color schemes and general outfits that I like best with white denim. When figuring out what to wear with white jeans, it’s important to consider the time of year (obvi), attire (work vs. play) and a number of other factors that will ultimately play a role in your overall look. If you ask me, you can wear just about anything with white jeans if you’re styling and accessorizing appropriately.
I’m a huge fan of mixing colors, textures, and prints up when it comes to putting outfits together with my white jeans. I think that everything from neutrals (black, tan, gray) to bright colors and prints work well, but it’s important to add more than just one color/texture/print to accessorize and “pull together” the look. First I’m going to talk about what types of shoes work with white jeans and then I’ll go into colors that work well with them!
What Colors Go Well With White Jeans?
In answering the questions what to wear with white jeans and how to wear white jeans, I think one of the best ways to provide value to YOU is by simply showing you past outfits with white jeans. As such, I’ve gone through several of my white jean outfits and organized them into general color groups that will hopefully speak to what works when it comes to putting together white jeans outfits and why.
Wear Your White Jeans With White for an All White, Monochromatic Look
If you can find the right color white top (aka one that’s similar in its starkness, then you should absolutely go for an all-white monochromatic look; I especially love how this looks in the summertime. It’s such a cute look and it’s really easy to accessorize with colorful accessories too to make a statement.
Pair Your White Jeans with Neutrals for a Tone-on-Tone Look
Another one of my favorite ways to wear my white jeans year round is to pair them with similar neutral, off-white hues for a one-on-tone look. I think it creates SUCH a chic and stylish look that you can wear (literally!) year round. The key is mixing textures and shades of cream/off-white and then balancing it out with cognac or other strategically chosen accessories. Here are a few examples that might help to inspire:
I also love wearing some version of this look (wearing white jeans with other neutrals) during transitional months and even in winter time like I’ve done in these two outfits:
Pair Your white jeans with Chambray
Wearing white jeans with chambray is probably one of my absolute favorite ways to wear them in summer and even into the Fall with my riding boots. I love how the blue of the chambray looks against the white and then I almost always pair some shade of brown or cognac with the outfit to tie it all together. Wearing chambray with your white jeans is also a fun take on the denim on denim look without going full on Canadian tuxedo!
Another way I love wearing my white jeans is pairing them with some shade of blue – whether it be dark navy or even pastel blue. I’ve found that wearing navy with white is similar to wearing black with white in that you have to balance out the look with accessories or different darker elements of the outfit so it’s not too heavy on top or bottom (in the case of wearing black shoes).
Wear Your White Jeans With Shades of Grey
You’ll see me pairing white and grey quite often these days as I love the subtlety of the two colors together how they complement each other so well. I especially love mixing grey with other pastel colors (like blush pink in this outfit!) or with a pop-of-color like I did with red in the outfit below.
Wearing White Jeans With a Black Top
Similarly to wearing black shoes with white jeans, if you’re going to wear a black top with white jeans then it’s important to balance out the look with shoes and accessories that are going to complement the overall outfit. I think the biggest thing to remember is that you’ll need at least one other color in your look to even out the heaviness of the black and help you balance out the look.
In the first outfit (on the left), I balanced out the black by making a statement with green heels and green earrings and finished the look with a black handbag. Hopefully, you can see how the green sort of complements the black and makes it a little less of a stark contrast? I’ve also worn almost this exact look with grey jeans too if you’d think that’s more you’re style! And then in the second look, I balanced out the black top with color-coordinated shoes and handbag, which I think complement the black fairly well.
Wearing White Jeans With Black and White Prints
Another great way to wear your white jeans is with any sort of black and white print – you really can’t go wrong with this one and you’ll always be able to pull off a cute and stylish look. I love pairing brown with it but also think that sticking to only black and white works to (like I did in the second/right outfit!)
Pairing Your White Jeans With Blush or Other Pastel Colors
Wearing my white jeans with pastels has GOT to be one of my absolute favorite ways to wear my white jeans! Typically, I stick to wearing pastels with white jeans in the summertime, but I’ve been known to mix things up in the Fall and Winter as well – it really just depends on what I’ve got in my closet and if the colors work.
Pair Your White Jeans With Stripes for a timeless look
I love wearing my white jeans during summer with navy stripes and a pop of red (with gold accessories!) for a nautical look. And then you could also go for a classic look with black and white stripes paired with cognac leather or any other neutral-toned accents. Either way, you really can’t go wrong with white jeans and any sort of stripe!
Wear Your White Jeans with Brights
And lastly, I love wearing my white jeans with solid, bright colors for more of a color-blocked look during the Summer months. Any time I have a vibrantly-colored top, my first instinct is to pair it with my white jeans for a starker (and brighter!) contrast of colors!
What Shoes To Wear With White Jeans
A question I’ve gotten before is what types and colors of shoes work with white jeans. And honestly, it’s a pretty difficult question to answer because it really depends on a number of factors including what the cut is of your white jeans, the time of year, and the overall color scheme you’re going for. But in general, I think it’s safe to say that pretty much all styles and colors of shoes can work with white jeans if you style them correctly! But for the sake of actually answering the question, I wanted to address a few specific types/colors with you:
1. Wear Neutral Shoes With White Jeans
Neutral shoes paired with white jeans are my personal favorite and what I gravitate towards most often – regardless of the season. While all neutral-styled shoe styles work well, I like to balance a lot of white jean outfits with some sort of heel since I personally have short legs. Here are a couple examples:
Basically, if you were to consider all my outfits where I’m wearing white jeans, it’ll be pretty obvious fairly quickly that nude/tan wedges are my go-to shoe of choice to pair with my white jeans. I think I’m partial to them because the natural color elongates my legs. And like I mentioned before, white isn’t THE most flattering shade of denim, so I love adding length to my bottom half.
2. Wearing Sneakers with White Jeans
Sneakers are also a great way to make white jeans look sporty or more casual and a look that I frequent often. Below are two outfits I’ve worn recently where I’ve paired my white jeans with sneakers for a more casual, chic look for running around town or doing fun things like sailing.
3. Wearing Black Shoes with White Jeans
Pairing black and dark-colored shoes with white jeans can be tricky, but it can be done if you balance it out with accessories (and not just a black top).
Like I mentioned, it’s totally possible to wear black shoes with white jeans despite the stark contrast in color but I think it’s KEY to balance out that contrast with similar “weighty” or darker-colored aspects of the outfit. For instance, in the two looks above, I’ve got something else dark-colored to balance out the black on the bottom. Specifically, with my black mules, I’ve got a darker-colored grey sweater with a solid black handbag and then with my black riding boots I’m wearing a black and white striped turtleneck balanced out with a solid black blazer that levels out the contrast of the dark black riding boots on the bottom. Hopefully, that makes sense?
With spring on our mind, we’re about to have one thing on our legs – white jeans. For many people, white jeans are the most dreaded bottoms to put on. Will they show everything?! How do I hide cellulite? Undies – do you wear em’ or go commando , what’s a good wash, do I want a denim fabric or twill and the list goes ON. Because they can be such a trouble spot for a lot of women, we thought it would be fun to do a similar post to our white tee comparison post we did a while back. I am a HUGE fan of white jeans as I think they freshen up any look and love to rock them all spring + summer + heck, even all fall long #YOLO.
We purchased ten different brands and styles of white jeans across many price points, set up our panel of expert judges and rated each pair of white jeans in the below categories from 1-5 :
- Overall Fit
- Total of all categories = Overall Score
We take this stuff very seriously. Because I’m sure you are most curious about what the results were, we should just dive right in. To keep the anticipation alive we are going to start with our least favorite and work our way from there. Spoiler alert: The end of this blog post is the most exciting 😉 Oh wait – one more thing, in case you’re curious I did wear these nude undies in the making of this post. You’re welcome.
First up, with the lowest score of all ten pairs were…..these NYDJ Ami Stretch Ankle Skinny Jeans that come in right over $100. Yikes. Now, while I love a good high waist to keep everything in, I am not loving what the backside of that high waist is doing here. They were quite sheer and the look of how the pockets laid underneath wasn’t flattering at all. We also had difficulty getting the jeans to look straight from the backside . Here’s how it rated in the categories:
- Sheerness: 2.00 – the worst score on sheerness we had!
- Stretchiness: 5.00
- Overall Fit: 2.00 – Ordered true to size
- Quality: 3.00
- Overall Score: 3.00
Next up, we have the Wit & Wisdom Ab-Solution Ankle Skimmer Jeans in Optic White. Now, while I am typically a HUGE fan of Wit & Wisdom these just didn’t do it for us. I will say, just comparing this pair to the top – way better on the booty. Phew. However, what we didn’t love was the twill material vs wearing a white denim pant. These did have a lot of loose threads on them which was a surprise. I do love that they have a front pocket, I just don’t love that you can see them through the pants. Here’s how they rated!
Onward, we now tested the Kut from the Kloth Mia Skinny Jeans and they came in at number 7 on our list of 10. If you need a longer inseam, these are a 31-inch inseam which is great! My biggest issue with these was that the jeans didn’t seem to lay nicely, especially in the knee area. This could have been because they were too long but again – if you look at the booty you will notice the seam doesn’t line up straight. No Bueno.
- Sheerness: 4.00
- Stretchiness: 4.00
- Overall Fit: 2.00 – Ordered true to size
- Quality: 4.00
- Overall Score: 3.50
Alright, number 6 on our list of 10 were the Old Navy Mid-Rise Built-In-Sculpt Rockstar Jeans. These are great because they do come in petite, regular and tall! We also tested the regular Old Navy Rockstar Jeans which you will see later below..oooh, the anticipation! The biggest thing with these was that while they have a built-in-sculpt, I felt like it doesn’t do a good job of hiding the lumps and bumps on the backside. They also had some bunching in the knee area which wasn’t my favorite. If choosing between this style and the regular Rockstars, I vote regular Rockstars.
Okay, now to number out 5 of 10 Here we have the Articles of Society Sarah Skinny Jeans. These definitely win the most awkward smile award. Some fun facts to know about – there are no actual front pockets on these and they are more a shiny material than a regular flat white denim. I have noticed in other times of wearing Articles of Society that they do start to lose their shape and stretch out in the knee and booty area. Here’s how we rated them!
We’ve made it to number 4! Coming in hot are these Jen7 Release Hem Stretch Skinny Ankle Jeans. These were one of the pricier pairs right at the $150 mark. I absolutely love the release hem look on these! The only reason these didn’t score higher on the list is that they did have quite a bit of sheerness to them we thought. Otherwise, I did love mostly everything about them!
- Sheerness: 3.00
- Stretchiness: 4.00
- Overall Fit: 5.00 – Ordered true to size
- Quality: 4.00
- Overall Score: 4.00
We are inching so much closer to our winner(s)! Coming in at number 5 are the Old Navy Mid-Rise Rockstar Skinny Jeans. For $30 or less, these are a great option for white jeans! I know a lot of people love these and I can see why! First, the price. Second, they aren’t sheer at all! They do have a real front pocket which I like. They do have some bunching at the knees, but overall I would recommend!
- Sheerness: 5.00
- Stretchiness: 4.00
- Overall Fit: 4.00 – Ordered true to size
- Quality: 3.50
- Overall Score: 4.13
We’re getting close! Close to the top are these American Eagle NE(X)T Level High Waisted Jegging. My love for American Eagle jeans runs deep. I do love that these are skinny all the way to the ankle . These were a slightly thinner material which may not hide cellulite very well which is the biggest downfall. They are very stretchy but shouldn’t stretch out.
- Sheerness: 4.00
- Stretchiness: 5.00
- Overall Fit: 4.50 – Ordered true to size
- Quality: 4.5
- Overall Score: 4.50
Now my PERSONAL FAVORITE! Who knew that Abercrombie would be gracing me with their presence in my 30’s?! These are the High Rise Ankle Jeans in Simone White Wash. As mentioned before in this post, I have a thing right now for the release hem detail! I think it’s such a fun added element for white jeans and think this style of hem looks so cute with flats, booties, Converse and more! Additionally, these jeans laid so well and had minimal bunching.
- Sheerness: 4.50
- Stretchiness: 5.00
- Overall Fit: 5.00 – Ordered true to size / if in between, go up!
- Quality: 4.00
- Overall Score: 4.53
Winner winner chicken dinner — the verdict is in and it was these Liverpool Penny Ankle Skinny Jeans that took home the grand prize for the highest score of a 5.0! Here’s why we loved them so much – they weren’t sheer at all, they laid SO flat , the material was thicker which means that cellulite won’t show it’s self as much in these babies and the cropped length makes them super easy to wear with heeled sandals and booties!
And that’s a wrap on white jeans my friends! Which pair(s) are YOUR tried and true favorites? Do tell!
I am not kidding you when I say that I have had several pairs of white pants hanging in my closet for YEARS and I have never worn any of them. I told you a little bit about that when I started trying my capsule wardrobe.
Every spring or summer I would buy another pair and think this was going to be the time I finally figured out how to make them work for me. This time of year I see my friends wearing them and looking adorable and I think, “Why can’t I pull that off?”
Then I would go home and try them, but no matter what I did, I just could not make them look good on my body. Some friends recommended buying white jeans for the thicker fabric, but I have not yet been able to find them in my size without major gapage going on at the back. (The pants in the picture are from Ann Taylor and a size 14.)
This is how I finally figured out how to wear white pants….
What I tried:
When I wore white pants with white full coverage underwear you could see the underwear in all of its glory. So I tried beige/nude underwear, and those still gave panty lines. Results: Nope.
Some friends said they wore their white pants with thongs, but when I tried that you could see my cellulite. That wasn’t exactly the look that I was going for and I am also getting way too old and curmudgeonly to submit to being uncomfortable at the same time that I am worrying about a whale tale hanging out every time I need to bend over to help one of my kids tie their shoes. Results: Nope.
I tried wearing some of my more expensive brand-name body shapers under the white pants (the kind that look like half a pair of panty hose and end at the thigh), but not only were they really uncomfortable because I was being squeezed in a corset, but you could still see a panty line and you could tell where they ended on my thighs. Results: Yeah, nope.
Not happening. I have ridiculously sensitive skin. I cannot even handle most laundry detergents touching me without breaking out into hives. I actually do need that extra layer of cotton protection because, as you can probably imagine, especially sensitive areas are, well, especially sensitive. Besides that, we were headed to a graduation party being held at a church. There was no way I was going in there without undergarments.
I cut the feet off a pair of panty hose and tried that too. Surprisingly, that gave some of the best results. The only problem was that they weren’t quite thick enough, so you could still see a bit of a panty line. And if I was going to be wearing all of that business under my pants anyway, then I wasn’t going to bother with a thong for all of the other reasons I just listed.
The panty hose gave me the idea for the one thing that finally did work…
White footless leggings!
I put a pair of thin white footless leggings like these on top of full coverage underwear.
I no longer had a visible panty line or completely see-through pants.
This is not a trick I would recommend in mid-August in 98% humidity at an outdoor cook-out, obviously. But right now it is May. The day I wore this outfit to a graduation party it was 70 degrees and mild.
And I FINALLY wore white pants in public.
