How old is noel fielding?

Noel Fielding

“Noel Fielding” (born 21 May 1973 in Westminster, London, England) is an English comedian and actor, most famous for his role as Vince Noir in The Mighty Boosh.

Early LifeEdit

Fielding’s parents (who appear in The Mighty Boosh with him in the episodes Nanageddon and The Priest and the Beast) were in their late teens when he was born in 1973, and he recalls having a very liberal upbringing, always aware of his parents’ eclectic taste in music and openness with drugs. He has a brother, Michael Fielding, who appears alongside him in The Mighty Boosh as Naboo. Also appearing in the show is Noel’s nephew (really Dee Plume’s nephew ,but Noel refers to him as his nephew anyway), as Kirk in the episode Nanageddon.

He attended Croydon Art College and Buckingham Chilterns University College, where he met friend and fellow Boosh comedian, Julian Barratt. It was at this time that the pair choreographed the sword fight performed by Fielding and Barratt in the Mighty Boosh 2006 stage show.

CareerEdit

The Mighty BooshEdit

Fielding is best known for playing Vince Noir opposite Julian Barratt (Howard Moon) and brother Michael Fielding (Naboo) in The Mighty Boosh. Fielding met Barratt when he was performing a gig – and Julian offered Noel a place to perform.

His character; “King of the Mods”, “Goth Fairy”, “Electro Poof”, “Shoreditch Vampire” and “Camden Leisure Pirate”, as well as fashion icon and would-be musician (“Vince Noir – rock ‘n’ roll star!”); is a kind, somewhat naive and loyal friend to Howard Moon. He can talk to animals, earning him the nickname “Mowgli in Flares”. Vince has a “run-between-the-raindrops” quality about him, giving him the ability to land on his feet in the most difficult of situations. He is somewhat of a golden boy, largely popular with most of the other characters (and comically, almost all of the characters played by Rich Fulcher), much to the annoyance of Howard.

Fielding is a visual artist responsible for many of Boosh’s distinctive sets and characters, including the polo theme that occurs in many episodes (e.g. The The Hitcher’s eye, the background of the main titles, the The Ape of Death’s costume).

Vince has a strong feminine aspect to his attire, often being confused as Howard Moon’s “ugly wife” by supporting characters. This is due to his androgyny dress sense, which commonly includes drainpipe jeans, women’s tops, large hats, boots with heels, a glitter-ball suit, faux-fur leopard skin jackets, sparkly accessories or clothes from high-street store Topshop.

OtherEdit

Outside of his work on The Mighty Boosh, Fielding has also had bit parts in many of Channel 4 stranger comedy programs, including Nathan Barley, The IT Crowd and Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, more often than not appearing alongside Mighty Boosh partner Julian Barratt. His role in “The IT Crowd” was filmed around his “Boosh” commitments. He also appeared in 1998 sketch show Unnatural Acts. In February 2007, Fielding appeared on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, where he mentioned an anecdote involving English pop-rock band The Kooks, who wanted him to provide The Mighty Boosh T-shirts for them to wear on Top of the Pops, however he did not have any, so hand-painted some for them. He arranged to meet their tour manager at 3 AM in Camden, but the tour manager never showed. When asked how long he waited, Fielding laughed and said, “Oh, about… four minutes.”

Fielding is an artist and has had two exhibitions at Maison Bertaux in Soho, selling artworks to Ringo Starr and Bryan Ferry amongst others. He released his art book The Scribblings Of A Madcap Shambleton in 2011.

He starred as a version of himself in his own psychedelic comedy show Luxury Comedy (two seasons, 2012-2014), written and directed by himself and Nigel Coan. It received very mixed reviews, many giving it high praise, others referring to it as absolutely horrible. The show features many of Noel Fielding’s own comic and artistic creations, in vignettes that are somewhat tied together. It also features actors that are friends and colleagues of Noel Fielding, but the great majority of characters are played by Fielding himself. It has some shared characters with An Evening With Noel Fielding, his 2015 live show. The show resulted in the collaboration between Noel Fielding and Sergio Pizzorno of Kasabian in the band Loose Tapestries, which came out with two albums, the music featured in each of the two seasons of the show.

MusicEdit

Fielding has appeared in several different music videos, including Robots In Disguise’s “The Tears”, alongside Chris Corner, Mint Royale’s “Blue Song”, alongside Julian Barratt, and Razorlight’s “In the Morning”. Fielding is friends with Razorlight, and involved them in the The Priest and the Beast. Fielding also appeared at one of their concerts, dressed as The Hitcher, to introduce the band. He also appeared in Kasabian’s music video for “Vlad The Impaler.” Fielding lent his voice to the Midfield General song “Midfielding”. Fielding has acted as a live bass player for Robots In Disguise. Fielding has co-written the music for his series of Luxury Comedy with Kasabian’s Sergio Pizzorno. They plan to release an album under the name of Loose Tapestries in 2012.

Goth DetectivesEdit

In December 2006, Fielding appeared alongside Russell Brand in the yearly panel show The Big Fat Quiz of the Year, hosted by Jimmy Carr. The pair won with 39 points thanks to the 22 points they got for one question (a joke that Carr offered, assuming that they would not know). Due to much joking on the show, involving Bob Skeleton (“Indie Detective”), which led to Fielding and Brand describing a fictional scenario in which they were “Goth Detectives”. This led to the decision to perform a Goth Detectives themed show for the Teenage Cancer Trust event at the Royal Albert Hall in March 2007.

How did Noel Fielding become famous?

Following his initial TV success, Noel Fielding teamed up with Julian Barratt to create, write and star in their own show.

Just like in his stand-up routines, Noel played a whole host of different characters in the surreal comedy The Mighty Boosh.

The series also featured a number of famous faces, including Matt Berry and Richard Ayoade.

It aired from 2003-2007 and scooped Shockwaves NME best TV Award three times.

Following the success of The Mighty Boosh, Noel took his series to radio.

He’s also appeared on BBC Radio 2 broadcasts, including The Russell Brand Show and Vic Reeves’ House Arrest.

Fans will know that Noel is partial to a bit of singing in his shows, which is probably why he’s featured in a variety of music videos.

He can be spotted in the videos for Kasabian’s Vlad the Impaler and Razorlight’s In The Morning.

Fielding’s repertoire does not end there, as he is also a keen artist.

The comedian has held a number of different exhibitions, including The Jelly Fox, a video installation that was shown at the Saatchi Gallery in 2012.

The Great British Bake Off’s Noel Fielding took a break from making surrealist jokes about cakes to enjoy a rare date night with his long-time girlfriend,

The 46-year-old attended the press night of Mamma Mia! The Party with Lliana Bird, and after nearly nine years together, the pair still looked smitten as they posed for pictures.

Noel looked jazzy as always in a red and orange zig zag shirt teamed with skintight purple jeans and black boots, while Lliana was as eccentric as her beau in a pair of dungarees patterned with stars and pictures of rabbits.

Lliana – a Radio X presenter and co-founder of the charities Help Refugees and The Kindly Collective – shared pictures from inside the event at London’s O2, telling followers they were supporting Noel’s GBBO partner in crime Sandi Toksvig.

Lliana, also known as Birdy, wrote: ‘Getting ready for Mamma Mia The Party – book by Sandi T’, before sharing a picture of Noel chatting with ABBA legend Bjorn Ulvaeus.

What a dream team.

Lliana captioned the snap: ‘Noel and Bjorn just having a chat #nobiggie.’

Sandi, 61, adapted the book for the immersive ABBA experience, saying: ‘This has been a dream job – writing this adaptation mainly because I want to go to it myself and I got to hang out with the legend that is Björn.’

We are so jealous (Picture: Instagram)

So it’s no surprise that Noel and Lliana were among the celebs in attendance.

The pair have been together since 2015, and welcomed their first child Dali last April.

Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show about his daughter, Noel said: ‘I don’t know how that happened, look at my pointy visage. She is very beautiful and she blows my mind about a hundred times a day.

‘It’s a new level of tiredness that I’ve never experienced. I’ve done a lot of all-nighters in my life. In a way I’ve been in training for this moment all my life.’

While Noel doesn’t usually talk about his private life, The Mighty Boosh star did mention his girlfriend on Dairy Week of The Great British Bake Off.

After learning that fellow goth Helena was baking a cake shaped as a ghost while wearing pointed black shoes and a vampire brooch, Noel said: ‘I don’t know what to say. I love you.’

Helena joked: ‘I’ve told my husband I’m divorcing him so we can marry on Halloween’, with Noel replying: ‘I’ll tell Birdy today.’

Thankfully, it looks like they’re still solid – ghost cake or no ghost cake.

Who is Noel Fielding? Is the Bake Off presenter married and what’s his baby called?

The Great British Bake Off is finally back on Channel 4.

The show made the controversial jump from the BBC in 2017, and while the move kept all of the charm of the original, it did require some new presenters.

And where the BBC had Mel and Sue, Channel 4 went for a more off-the-wall choice with comedian and famous goth Noel Fielding.

Luckily Noel’s on-screen partnership with co-host Sandi Toksvig grew on viewers, and he is becoming increasing popular on the baking show.

So here’s everything you need to know about the Mighty Boosh star…

Who is Noel Fielding?

Noel is a British comedian, actor, artist and presenter, best known for co-starring alongside Julian Barratt in cult comedy classic The Mighty Boosh.

He was also a team leader on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, and makes regular appearances on panel shows such as The Big Fat Quiz of the Year.

Fielding was born in London, and began his career in the 1990s on the stand-up circuit. He does character comedy, featuring a lot of elaborate outfits and make-up.

After stand-up, but before he made it big, Fielding impressed in Lee Mack’s TV show Gas, with a musical, off-beat style.

It was after Gas that he teamed up with Julian Barratt to create, write and star in The Mighty Boosh.

When Fielding was a permanent team captain on Never Mind the Buzzcocks, he sat opposite Phil Jupitus. Fielding provided a soundboard for Jupitus’ more cynical persona – and he wasn’t afraid to wind up guests.

He’s also worked in radio, most notably in The Russell Brand Show, and on Vic Reeves’ House Arrest.

Fielding has also appeared in music videos. He’s in Kasabian’s Vlad the Impalar, as well as Razorlight’s In the Morning.

The Great British Bake Off 2018

Noel’s initial casting as host on Bake Off was controversial, with the outlandish goth a world away from the BBC’s Mel and Sue.

When the first Channel 4 series started, Chief Creative Officer Jay Hunt said: “Sandi and Noel bring a fresh wit and quirkiness to the tent. It’s just the sort of innovative lineup audiences expect from Channel 4.”

And Noel soon won over fans with his iconic shirts, and the show gave Channel 4 some of its best ratings for five years.

Noel’s start on Bake Off must have been tricky after he gave up sugar – and therefore eating cake – before the show started.

He ditched sugar after landing a film role to play Alice Cooper that meant he had to shed a stone.

He said: “It’s not that I don’t like cake, I have a very sweet tooth.”

He’s also suggested he watches his figure, because: “no one likes a tubby goth.”

Is Noel Fielding married and does he have children?

Noel Fielding and Lliana Bird (Image: Getty)

Noel has been with partner Lliana Bird since 2010, but it is not thought that they are married.

The pair’s first child was born in April 2018, and named Dali after Spanish artist Salvador Dali.

The painter has been a big influence on Noel, and was even his inspiration for joining Bake Off.

He had feared he would be selling out by joining the show for a six-figure fee.

But Kasabian guitarist Serge Pizzorno, who is close pals with Noel, said: “We figured Salvador Dali did a chocolate advert, so it’s OK. That sort of makes it all right.”

Who is his partner Lliana Bird?

Noel and Lliana have reportedly been dating since 2010.

Lliana is a radio host on Radio X, and has also worked as an actress and writer.

She appeared on several episodes of Fielding’s The Mighty Boosh, as well as his show Luxury Comedy.

In 2015 she co-founded humanitarian aid charity Help Refugees.
