Can I give an iTunes gift to someone in another country

Because it is impossible to buy something from the iTunes Store in another country you may be wondering if it is possible to send someone a gift from the UK store, or alternatively, if you could ask a friend in another country to send you a gift from their store.

Unfortunately it’s not possible to redeem a gift sent via iTunes (or iBooks, or the Mac App or iOS App Stores). This is because the gift is only be redeemable in the country of purchase.

You can’t redeem a gift bought from another country.

Tired of malls and holiday traffic? Afraid that if you order something online it won’t get shipped in time for Christmas? Ready to just pick up some iTunes gift cards at your local supermarket? STOP!

Instead of buying a general gift card to iTunes, you can actually go onto the iTunes store yourself and “gift” individual songs and albums to your loved ones. Now doesn’t that sound more personal and thoughtful? Heck, you can even put together your ideal end-of-year playlist and gift all those songs to the diehard music fans in your life.

How to use send gifts through iTunes

It’s simple:

1. Go to the iTunes Store and find the music you’d like to purchase as a gift.

2. If you want to gift a single song, click on the arrow next to the price, scroll down, and then click “Gift This Song.”

3. If you want to gift an album, click on the arrow next to the price/buy button; then scroll down and click “Gift This Album.”

4. You’ll then be led to the ‘Send an iTunes Gift’ screen where you can provide the email address of the gift recipient.

5. Write a personal message, if you wish, in the Message box.

6. Select the date on which you’d like the gift to be “delivered” and choose a gift theme.

7. Confirm the information and send that gift!

Well, I hope that gives all you last-minute gift-buyers a less stressful option for purchasing music this holiday season. Oh, and what music ARE you buying for the music fans in your life? Let me know in the comments section below.

You’ve undoubtedly bought music, movies, TV shows, and audiobooks off of iTunes before, but it was likely for yourself. If you’re wanting to buy something from the iTunes Store and gift it to someone else, here’s how to do it.

The process for gifting digital content in iTunes is surprisingly complicated, mostly because it’s not intuitive how to get there.

The first thing you’ll want to do is open up the iTunes Store app.

From there, either browse and find the piece of digital content you’re looking for or hit the “Search” tab at the bottom of the screen.

At the top of the screen, type in the title of the movie, song, album, or whatever it is you’re looking for. In my case, I’m looking for a specific audiobook by Dale Earnhardt Jr. to give to my mom.

After selecting the digital content, tap the “Share” button up in the top-right corner of the screen.

Tap on “Gift” in the Share sheet.

Next, type the email address of your recipient in the “To” box. If they’re already in your contacts, you can select them that way, too. In the “From” box, type your name. Below that, you can type out a message if you’d like.

Scroll down and under the “Send Gift” setting, you can select when you want the gift to be sent to your recipient—great if you want them to receive it on Christmas morning, their birthday, or whatever. Hit “Next” up in the top-right corner when you’re done.

On the next screen, select a theme and hit “Next” to continue.

Confirm that all of the information is correct and then tap “Buy.”

Confirm again and then tap “Buy Now.” You might need to verify your Apple ID to complete the purchase.

Once the purchase is complete, you’ll move on to a confirmation screen. Hit “Done” in the top-right corner to finish. The recipient will receive an email letting them you gifted them something from iTunes, with instructions on how to redeem it.

The ability to buy gift cards on Google Play’s app and website has vanished recently, followed shortly by an update of Google Play Support to show that you can’t buy the gift cards digitally anymore, you have to buy a physical card, and that you can gift Google Play Books and Google Play Music All Access. We’re not sure what prompted the change, but for parents who top off their kids’ Google Play accounts through gift cards or those who found Google Play credit to be an easy last-minute gift, you’re going to want to head to a retailer that stocks them and grab a few.

So now, you now have to use three different methods to gift three different kinds of Google Play content:

  • To give Google Play credit, you have to go to a store that sells the physical gift cards.
  • To give a Google Play Book, you have to find the book on the Google Play site or app and tap Gift.
  • To give a Google Play Music All Access subscription, you have to open the Google Play Music app, open Settings and tap Send gift.

And here is what we now cannot gift through Google Play:

  • Movies and TV shows
  • Music albums and individual songs
  • Magazine and newspaper subscriptions
  • Apps and games

We can only hope that gifting books is the test balloon before being rolled out to the rest of the content in the Google Play Store, but that’s anyone’s guess, at this rate. What isn’t a guess is how much of a pain removing digital gift cards is going to be.

Google has quietly introduced a new feature as part of its Play Music service which lets users offer up gifts. Said gifts come in the form of 1-month, 3-month, and 6-month subscriptions to Google Play Music All Access. Indeed, a few short steps separate you from pre-paying for all the music your friend could ever want. Here’s how to do it!

Step 1

Inside of the Google Play Music web client, scroll to the bottom left. Just above the Trash and Settings is a new “Send gift” option. Clicking it takes you to a landing page; you can also just click the link directly, too.

Step 2

Choose which gift subscription you’d like to pay for. The rates shake out to $9.99 per month, regardless of which level you purchase.

Step 3

Fill in the appropriate information. Where’s it going? Who do you want it to say the gift is from? You also have 200 characters to use for any sort of message, too. When you’re ready, hit “continue”.

Step 4

Verify the information and enter your payment details. Send it!

Note that the recipient has the opportunity to decline the gift. If that happens, you can send it to someone else.

Note: Select outbound links may include affiliate tracking codes. Revenue generated from any potential purchases is used to fund AndroidGuys. Read our policy.

Music and books are a great gift to give at Christmas, but if the recipient wants the digital download version instead, what should you do?

The most obvious answer is a gift card for these services but if you feel giving gift cards at Christmas isn’t for you is there anything you can do? It is actually possible to gift a digital download, here’s everything you need to know.

Not all formats

However, there are a couple of provisos. Apple’s iTunes Store lets you gift an album, book or app – ideal for anyone that has an iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac or uses iTunes. Google lets you gift Play music subscriptions (either 1 month, 3 months or 6 months) or books but not individual albums. Amazon only lets you gift Kindle ebooks. All three send the digital gifts as a link in an email.

How to Buy Songs from iTunes

You’ve found a great song on Apple iTunes and you want to buy it. Before you can buy songs on Apple iTunes, though, you have to set up an account with Apple (assuming that you haven’t already done so) or use an existing AOL account. Here’s how:

  1. In the Source List, click iTunes Store. In the sign-in window, click Create New Account and fill in the requested credit card and other info.

    The rest is easy.

  2. Find a song you want to buy and click Buy Song.

To make sure you really mean it, Apple displays a warning.

  3. Click Buy to complete the transaction.

In a matter of seconds (usually), the song is downloaded to the Purchased playlist.

Once a week, you can download at least one free single handpicked by Apple and usually more. The freebies are usually from artists you’ve never heard of, though the music is often quite good. The downloading experience is identical to buying any track, except you’re clicking Get Song instead of Buy Song.

Those 99-cent songs can add up. To find out just how much you’re spending, click Account under the Quick Links list, enter your password, and click Purchase History to check out your latest transactions.

If you’ve cherry-picked the songs you’ve bought from select albums, Apple will let you buy the rest of the titles on the album at a reduced cost. There’s a six-month limit to take advantage of this Complete My Album feature, from the time you first downloaded a song from an eligible album.

If you click Manage My Alerts on the Account Information page, Apple will send you e-mail letting you know when artists whose music you’ve bought in the past have added new music to the Music Store. To do so, select the Send Me an Email Alert for All Individuals in My Purchase History option.

iTunes gift cards make great stocking stuffers, but did you know that you can also give one of your iTunes playlists as a gift? Here’s how it works: Create a playlist full of the songs you’d like to give and then follow the instructions below to purchase the songs in the iTunes Store. The recipient will be emailed a special iTunes code to download all of the songs in the playlist. And if you really want that stocking stuffer, you can print a gift certificate for the playlist.

Here’s how to gift an iTunes Playlist:

  1. Open iTunes. (It’s in your Applications folder.)
    />
  2. Create a new playlist and select it, or select an existing playlist. (For instructions on creating a new playlist, see How to Create an iTunes Playlist.)
    />
  3. From the Store menu, select Share Playlist. The window shown below appears.
    />
  4. Click Gift. The page shown below appears.
    />
  5. To send the playlist as a gift via email, select Send gift via email.
    />
  6. To print the playlist as a gift certificate, Print gift certificate myself.
    />
  7. Enter the requested information in the form fields.
    />
  8. Below the form, you should see the songs from your playlist. Verify that all of the songs are there. You will be charged for each of the songs listed.
  9. Note: Only songs available in the iTunes Store can be gifted. If your playlist contains songs that you ripped from CD or downloaded from another Internet music store, you might not be able to give them as a gift in iTunes.

  10. Click Continue. Follow the instructions to check out and send or print the gift certificate.

If you selected the email option, the recipient should receive the gift momentarily. And if you elected to print the gift certificate, fire up your printer. Now all that’s left to do is give yourself a pat on the back for buying a gift in record time!
