He was an in-studio technician behind the cameras, and she was an anchor and meteorologist in front of the cameras. This is how Dylan Dreyer of the Today show and NBC News met her husband, Brian Fichera.

The story goes that they first crossed paths when they both worked the morning shift over at the WHDH station in Boston, Massachusetts. Apparently, Dylan thought Brian’s name was actually Tom, so it quickly became an inside joke between the two of them to call each other the wrong name. But it wasn’t long before the two realized that they were meant to be.

“When he started working more, he’d hang out more in the Weather Center with our friend Todd. The three of us starting hanging out more and more outside of work, building our friendship and getting closer,” Dylan allegedly wrote on their wedding blog. “After a few years, we had a small party at Brian’s house which we dubbed the Jammy Jam. It was then that I realized I had totally fallen for him and from there it was history!”

In July of 2011, Brian reportedly proposed to Dylan on the front porch of his parents’ house. “When I saw there were roses and two glasses of Champagne, I knew,” Dylan told Boston.com.

A little over a year later in October 2012, Brian and Dylan made it official at The Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston. Around the same time, Dylan also signed on to join the weekend edition of the Today show.

All my joy, my laughter, my smiles…my whole world is because of you and the life you’ve given me. You and Calvin own my heart. Happy 6th Anniversary! #blessed

Not long after tying the knot, Dylan and Brian moved from their house in Boston to a smaller apartment in New York City for Dylan’s job.

“I never in a million years thought I could downgrade to 750 square feet,” Dylan said about the one-bedroom apartment. “Not to mention, share it with someone else.”

But, needless to say, they made it work. And two years later, the couple decided it was time to expand their family. Dylan revealed in June 2016 on Today that she was expecting her first child. Before she gave birth, Dylan released a video diary where she explained just how much her husband helped her overcome her fears of becoming a first-time mom.

“My husband kind of just sits back and reminds me, he’s like, ‘This baby is a piece of both of us … Everything we love about each other, and all the times we enjoy together, we’ve created this wonderful life that is going to be a piece of both of us and it’s going to become part of our lives.'”

“He’s amazing,” she continued. “He’s very supportive, and every time I do get scared, he brings me back to reality.”

In December of that year, the parents welcomed their son, Calvin Bradley Fichera, into the world. The couple may have been nervous at first, but now the two couldn’t be happier with Calvin in their lives.

“I just can’t believe I’m this lucky,” she wrote on Today.com at the time. “When I saw this little guy and watched him dance around and touch his hand to his face, I fell in love instantly. A love I, too, can’t put into words.”

She fell in love once again when she and Brian welcomed their second son, Oliver George, in early January. “All I do is stare at him,” Dylan said while calling into the Today show a day after giving birth. “I just want to kiss him every second.”

Apart from being parents, the couple also loves to travel across the country together, go out for the occasional date night, golf, and so much more more. Their favorite activity of all? Dylan has said before that the two absolutely love to explore the world together. But even when they’re not jetting across the globe, the love between Dylan and Brian is clearly strong.

“All my joy, my laughter, my smiles,” Dylan wrote on Instagram about Brian. “My whole world is because of you and the life you’ve given me.”

On Friday, Dylan checked in with Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones, and Jill Martin at TODAY to provide updates for everyone concerned. It has been less than three weeks since the baby arrived, and she’s still in the process of settling down. She added a little humor by saying, “I feel good. I feel like the honeymoon of the first time I called in has wound down.” She then added, “Not a whole lot of sleep the last few nights. He’s kinda up just wanting to eat and then he sleeps during the day.”

Dylan, who had a cold, expressed the tough part of being a parent in a colorful tone, said, “It’s not all rainbows and butterflies.” The big brother is full of questions and is eager to help momma take care of his little brother. “(Calvin’s) fascinated by the whole eating process,” she added. “(He asks) ‘He only eats milk? He can’t have gummy bears? He can’t have cereal?’ He wants somebody to share his Rice Krispies with.” He’s trying to be the captain of the house, figuring out the new routine for the family.

Dylan’s older son is head over heels with his little brother. So much so that, “He’s kind of learning through the whole process,” she said. “It’s just been making it so much easier for us. You know, he’s never jealous if I’m holding him or feeding him or putting him to sleep. He’s just been great, which is awesome.” He comes home from school, and he hugs the baby.

A few days ago, Sheinelle said she would love to visit Dylan soon and help her by holding Oliver to give her that moment of peace she really needs. Dylan certainly appreciated this offer, no doubt, since she is already doubting whether to shower or get things done or take a nap. And this week, she is particularly keen on catching up with her nap time, which seemingly might need to wait way longer than anticipated!

Dylan Dreyer Shares Too-Cute Photo of Newborn Son Oliver as They Head Home from the Hospital

Oliver George is headed home!

Dylan Dreyer‘s newborn son, whom she and husband Brian Fichera welcomed on Thursday, was all snuggled up and ready to leave the hospital in a precious photo shared by his mama on Sunday.

Wrapped in a white blanket and wearing a tiny pink-and-blue beanie, the baby boy appeared to be sound asleep, resting the side of his face on his arm inside his hospital bed.

“Relaxed and ready for home!” the Today show meteorologist and third-hour co-anchor, 38, captioned her post. “Thank you everyone for your outpouring of love and kindness as we welcomed little Oliver into the world! We are absolutely overjoyed with love. This must be what Heaven is like! #goolliego.”

PEOPLE confirmed Oliver’s birth on Friday morning ahead of Dreyer’s Today show call-in. Born at 9:13 a.m. local time, the baby boy weighed 7 lbs., 2 oz., and measured 19 inches long.

During her call, the new mother of two revealed that she didn’t have a hugely specific reason for naming her son Oliver, sharing that “there was no significance” and she and Fichera, 33, just “liked the name.”

Dreyer also said that she and her husband had a “list of five different names” leading up to Oliver’s birth, and then when she was covering the Royal Ascot in London, “Everybody we were around was either named Oliver .”

“We had to pick up Brian’s suit from a store called Oliver Brown and there were just all these signs and we were like, ‘Yeah, I think Oliver’s it,’ ” she added.

And no one was more excited to meet Oliver than his big brother. Explained Dreyer during the call of her older son’s reaction at 5 a.m., “Calvin woke up, he wanted to get dressed, he wanted to come with us .”

“I said, ‘Mommy and Daddy have to leave, but you’re gonna come to the hospital and meet Oliver today,’ ” she recalled. “He had his shoes on and his jacket on. He was so ready to come! And then he walks in with this huge smile on his face. He sits on my lap and he looks at Oliver and he asks to hold him right away. It was perfect.”

As for spreading her affection between two children, the weather expert said “everything just clicked” even though she initially wondered, ” ‘How do you find the love for another child?’ ‘Cause you love the first one so much.”

“Now, it feels complete. The four of us … everything about it just feels right,” Dreyer added. “There was no adjustment period. It’s like, ‘Oh yeah, this is us. This is our family.’ “

Dylan Dreyer has been enjoying her first pregnancy, which she announced on TODAY in June.

The fashion critiques on social media. Look, dressing for work when you’re pregnant is hard enough; imagine doing it when your outfits are scrutinized by a TV audience of millions! File that under things we definitely wouldn’t want to expect when we’re expecting.

“I don’t have a stylist… everything you see me wear on TV I’ve purchased, and I don’t like to spend a lot of money on clothes because I don’t like to repeat,” Dylan explains in her pregnancy diary, filmed in her very own closet.

Of course, Dylan’s not the only one pregnant, and expecting in December, on the TODAY show. Savannah Guthrie is expecting baby No. 2. And yes, she also’s had to deal with the inevitable maternity wear criticism.

Another TV reporter’s response went viral in 2015 when she responded to viewers who called her pregnant body “gross.”

“No matter how rational or confident you are, the mean things people say can have an impact. The negative thoughts seep in when you don’t even realize it. Even a little joking comment could do some damage. Hopefully this can help us all be more aware of our impact on others,” meteorologist Kristi Gordon said.

  • Earlier this year, TODAY show host Dylan Dreyer announced that she’s pregnant with her second child.
  • The meteorologist suffered a miscarriage last winter, and opened up about her struggles with secondary infertility.

TODAY meteorologist Dylan Dreyer and her husband, Brian Fichera, are looking forward to the arrival of their second child, but the journey has been bumpy. Earlier this year, she shared that she struggled with secondary infertility, and suffered a miscarriage last winter. Recently, she revealed that her natural pregnancy hasn’t been easy after her attempts to conceive.

“It was so much harder this time around,” Dreyer, 38, said in an interview with People. “We weren’t sure we were going to get pregnant or what sort of IVF treatments we’d have to go through to be able to have this baby.”

Earlier, Dreyer revealed that she and her husband were just about to begin in vitro fertilization treatments, when she learned she got pregnant naturally. “The day I was going to start my IVF…the doctor called and said, ‘Don’t take anything, you’re pregnant,” she announced on TODAY.

Despite the setbacks and hardships over the past year, Dreyer said she feels grateful that she has the opportunity to expand her family once again. “Every night I pray and thank God for putting us in this situation and giving us this opportunity and not having to struggle any longer than we did,” she told People.

Now that Dreyer is in her third trimester, she’s less worried about her soon-to-arrive baby, and is turning her focus on helping her two-year-old son Calvin adjust to the changes soon to come.

She shared on social media how she’s spending quality vacation time with Calvin, as well as taking the weekend to prepare his new “big boy bedroom.”

Dreyer wanted to make sure Calvin would feel okay about the new addition to the family, so she put a treasure chest with a baby countdown in his room, she told People. “Every day Calvin opens up the treasure chest and it’s a new little gift from his baby brother, little things like a Matchbox car or a little thing of Play-Doh or stickers or just something small, so he’s excited.”

Bob Dylan has told the Nobel prize committee he will not be attending the ceremony in Sweden to pick up his accolade.

Dylan was named winner of this year’s Nobel prize for literature in October for his vast body of lyrics and poetry but has since been reluctant to publicly acknowledge the honour.

The 75-year-old’s silence led him to be labelled “arrogant” by one member of the Nobel academy, and a brief message on his website that he was the “the winner of the Nobel prize for literature 2016” was taken down the next day.

It took two weeks for the singer and songwriter, who has a notoriously troubled relationship to his own fame, to accept a call from the permanent secretary of the academy, Sara Danius. He told them he had been left “speechless” by the honour and later said in an interview he would “absolutely” attend an award ceremony “if it’s at all possible”.

However, in a personal letter to the academy, Dylan told them “he wishes he could receive the prize personally, but other commitments make it unfortunately impossible.”

He underlined that he feels “incredibly honoured by the Nobel prize,” they added.

The Swedish Academy said it “respects Bob Dylan’s decision” but stressed it is “unusual” for a Nobel laureate not to come to Stockholm to accept the award in person.

Dylan is not alone in not attending the ceremony. Novelist Doris Lessing was too old, playwright Harold Pinter was in hospital and writer Elfriede Jelinek had crippling social phobia. Nonetheless, the academy noted: “The prize still belongs to them, just as it belongs to Bob Dylan.”

As this year’s Nobel laureate, Dylan is required “to give a lecture on a subject connected with the work for which the prize has been awarded”. The lecture should be given before, or no later than six months after, the Nobel Prize award ceremony in Stockholm in December.

Making the award announcement in October, Danius the academy “hoped the news would be received with joy, but you never know.”

She compared Dylan’s work to that of ancient Greek writers Homer and Sappho. Asked about the comparison, Dylan said: “I suppose so, in some way. Some songs – Blind Willie, The Ballad of Hollis Brown, Joey, A Hard Rain, Hurricane and some others – definitely are Homeric in value.”

The decision to award Dylan the Nobel prize was not without controversy. The French Moroccan writer Pierre Assouline described the decision as “contemptuous of writers” while Irvine Welsh, the author of Trainspotting, said that although he was a Dylan fan, “this is an ill-conceived nostalgia award wrenched from the rancid prostates of senile, gibbering hippies”.

Will Self also called on Dylan to follow the example of the French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre and turn down the prize.

However, before he died, Dylan’s songwriting peer and friend Leonard Cohen said that no prizes were necessary to recognise the indelible mark records like Highway 61 Revisited had made on popular music. “To me,” he said, “ is like pinning a medal on Mount Everest for being the highest mountain.”
