Dancing with stars sharna

On Wednesday’s episode of Good Morning America, the season 28 Dancing With the Stars cast was introduced and immediately caused an uproar. While most of the clamor revolved around Former Press Secretary Sean Spicer joining the ABC dancing show, some fans were more upset that one of the most notable pros (and winner of last year’s Mirrorball Trophy), Sharna Burgess wasn’t going to be competing.

After the cast announcements were made, Sharna took to Instagram to confirm that, indeed, she would not be coming back for the next DWTS season. Sharna had been a part of the DWTS franchise for almost nine years, becoming a pro in season 16.

She wrote alongside a photo of Bobby: “I am unbelievably sad to not be back!!! However, what i can whole heartedly tell you is that It’s all good, ALL love and in this moment I can’t help but be grateful for the time and the journey that I’ve had, the people I’ve met, the incredible talent I’ve shared the stage with and the memories I’ve made.”

“I am going to truly miss creating, story telling and performing for you all, I’ll miss giving the transformative power of dance to the person in front of me, and I’ll miss seeing my Dwts family every day and watching them work their craft in ways that inspire me.”

Not surprisingly, her fans were pretty upset when hearing the news.

@SharnaBurgess so sad to read that you won’t be back on the show! Love ya!

@SharnaBurgess gonna miss not seeing you on this up coming season

Besides Sharna, it appears Artem Chigvintsev will also not be returning after joining as a pro in season 19.

Okay, so why is Sharna Burgess leaving Dancing With the Stars?

While Sharna hasn’t straight-up said why she’s walking away from the show, her Instagram post did hint that “there are things coming into my world that I’m excited to dive into now that I have time.” That makes us think she has a few secret projects up her sleeves.

Sharna has been serving as a judge on Dancing With the Stars Australia and spent this summer performing in the musical The Storm in New York City. Perhaps now that she won’t be on season 28, she’ll be focusing on performing in more musicals and continue judging the competition series in Australia.

With that being said though, Sharna did kind of make it seem like the decision to leave DWTS may have not been her own. On her Instagram post announcing her departure, she wrote, “everything happens for a reason.”

Jon Kopaloff

What’s more, DWTS host Tom Bergeron told Entertainment Tonight that Sharna seemed “surprised” when he spoke to her recently. “As a matter of fact, I was just texting with Sharna recently. She was surprised and I was, too. But again, that’s somebody else’s call.”

Another possible explanation for Sharna’s exit could’ve been that she was not happy about the “formatting tweaks” that the new season will bring. ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke told Deadline in early August that the producers were still working on switching things up a bit, including making a tweak to how the couples’ scores are calculated.

“The producers were just in last week talking about the casting and the creative evolution,” she said. “It’s all very exciting. It won’t be major format changes, just tweaking and tinkering.”

As fans of the show can recall, Bobby and Sharna’s win last season was a controversial one. Even though they received low scores from judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, and Carrie Ann Inaba, they still won the show thanks to fan votes.

Bottom line, no matter what happened or why she’s leaving, we sure are going to miss seeing Sharna salsa, meringue, and cha-cha on the dance floor this year. But who knows, maybe, just maybe, we’ll see her again in season 29.

Dancing pro Sharna Burgess opened up about the reason she wasn’t chosen to participate in this season’s ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and talked about the ups and downs that come with the time off.

Sharna Burgess, 34, may not be featured on this season’s Dancing with the Stars, but she’s got a good reason for it and counting her blessings along the way. The ballroom dancer, who won the last season of the competition show along with her partner Bobby Bones, has been a part of the series for the past 12 seasons but she admitted her absence this time around is simply because the show’s producers just couldn’t find a partner for her.

“It was a case of they just couldn’t match me up with a partner this season and that’s okay,” she EXCLUSIVELY told HollywoodLife at Debbie Durkin’s 13th Annual ECOLUXE ‘Endless Summer Festival’ during Emmy’s weekend. “It happens. It has been known to happen in the past. It was tough being the reigning champ and not really ever thinking that this would happen. But, again there’s a whole new team at Dancing with the Stars that are trying to revamp the show into a different way. I think they’re doing a great job at it and they decided that for this season I wasn’t right. But it’s been made very clear that they hope they can have me in the family for things coming up in the future.”

The Australian talent is not harboring any bad feeling towards the series and that future seems to very much be definite. “There’s no love lost between me and Dancing with the Stars,” she assured. “They’re wonderful. I just had lunch today with one of our producers over at BBC and we’re talking about future things. So it’s all very exciting and it’s kind of a blessing to have this time to really explore other things for me. So I’m actually grateful for it. It’s a whole new fall season to me, but of course I’m still supporting the show. I was there last Monday. I’ll be there this Monday. I definitely want to cheer them on. I’m excited for their season.”

In addition to getting excited over the new season, Sharna has been keeping busy with her time off and has even been exploring things she hasn’t been able to before. “I’m doing great. I’m in a really good place,” she gushed. “There’s a lot of new things that have come into my world and I’m really experiencing I think a transition in my career into a whole world of other things I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. I have time on my hands to date now, which is unbelievably exciting.”

Although she’s gearing up to date and is enjoying her time of transition, the red-headed beauty admitted she was quick shocked when she found out she wasn’t returning to Dancing with the Stars and had a moment where she needed to make sure she kept her personal feelings in check. “It was like, wait, is this really happening or am I going to wake up soon kind of moment because it was unexpected for me, and I had about 24 hours of processing and then natural feelings of ‘But why?’ and ‘Why don’t they want me?’ I think we would all go through that and then I very clearly understood everything happens for a reason and this is what was meant to happen. There’s a silver lining to everything and it wasn’t personal.”

She went on to insist that it really was just all about business and had nothing to do with her abilities. “It’s not personal that I wasn’t back. It’s a business decision,” she explained. “It was, they have a vision for what this show is and for this season to bring it back, and I wasn’t a part of that and that’s okay. Maybe they didn’t want a flaming red head in the middle of the dance floor. You know what I mean? Whatever the decision was, it’s okay and essentially it doesn’t even matter at this point because I just move forward with whatever I’m doing now.”

Lastly, Sharna is well aware that fans of the show love her and she’s very grateful for the support. “It does feel good. You know what, in a weird way, it feels overwhelming to say that. I don’t want people to feel bad, but it felt beautiful to know, oh yeah, people really cared about my presence on the show too,” she said. “It wasn’t just that I loved being there. Other people loved me being there too. And I was very grateful to hear the love that people had for me and what I’d done.”

She also hopes that love for her can continue with the show this season despite her departure. “I also don’t want people to have a negative emotion towards the show. I want them to support this season,” she went on to say. “I want this show to go on for another 10 years. You know what I mean? I want it to succeed. And that’s really where my heart lies with it. I want this version, this season 28 to be the best show, the best season that we’ve had yet. So we can do 29 and we can do 39.”

Sharna Burgess attends ‘Dancing With the Stars’ season 28 premiere after axing

Sharna Burgess still has love forDancing With the Stars after she was axed as a professional dancer on season 28.

The choreographer, 34, took to her Instagram Story on Monday, September 16, to post a video showing her at theseason 28DWTS premiere. The video of Burgess watching the show backstage comes a month after the ABC reality competition announced that she and fellow proArtem Chigvintsevwould not bereturning for the current season.

“Hahahahaha @mrbobbybones I’m about to run and find you :)” Burgess captioned her Instagram Story video after spotting her season 27 partner Bobby Bones in the audience.

In an interview withEntertainment Tonight on Monday, the Australia native opened up about how “sad” she felt when she learned she was cut as a professional dancer from the show.

“There is no animosity from me. There’s no shade,” she said. “There’s definitely sadness, yes, but that’s normal. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was sad. It would be terrible if I wasn’t sad actually.”

When asked if she would return to the show for a cameo or as a guest choreographer for the current season, Burgess said she would come back in a heartbeat.

“I would love to, and I certainly wouldn’t say no to it either,” she said. “If it lines up for me and I can, I would love to go do a little performance for them or choreograph an opening number. I’m down to do all the things.”

Though she has no hard feelings toward DWTS, the ballroom expert admitted that it’s still difficult to think about not starring on season 28.

“Nobody is saying it’s not going to be hard. You know, even walking into CBS Studios and driving into the lot, there is a loss there because it’s been a part of my life for so long,” she said. “But I can’t be selfish about that, and I can’t wallow in that. I can only look at what this show has given me for the last eight and a half years. It’s given me a life I never could’ve imagined.”

As for what she misses the most, Burgess confessed that it’s working with her celebrity partner. In her 12 seasons on the show, the Burn the Floor alum was coupled with stars such as Backstreet Boys memberNick Carter, race car driver James Hinchcliffe and NFL star Josh Norman. She won once with Bones, 39, in season 27.

‘DWTS’ fall 2016 cast: Derek Hough to compete on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ season 23

A very familiar face was just added to the Dancing With The Stars fall 2016 cast. According to an Aug. 26 E! report, six-time Mirrorball Trophy winner Derek Hough will waltz back into the ballroom as a pro coach when the season premieres on Sept. 12. A tweet by PureDWTS confirmed that the 31-year old Hough was a “very last-minute” addition to the lineup. He last appeared on DWTSlast fall, when he won the trophy with wildlife conservationist Bindi Irwin.

DWTSseason 23 cast to feature plenty of formershow stars

Hough’s return is exciting for fans of the hit reality dance competition, but he’s far from the only former Dancing with the Stars super star to return for season 23. Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who won season 18 with Olympic gold medalist Meryl Davis, announcedthat he will be part of the lineup during the Aug. 25 edition of Good Morning America. Although he said he was finished with DWTS back in 2014, he told Us Weekly that being in “the best shape of my life” and enjoying time with his brother during their summer prompted him to goa second title this fall.

Other pro dancers who will be part of the DWTS fall 2016 lineup after absences include Allison Holker, who missed season 22 due to pregnancy (she and husband tWitch Boss welcomed son Maddox in March); Emma Slater, who last competed alongside social media star Hayes Grier during season 21; and Gleb Savchenko, who partnered Vanderpump Rules star Lisa Vanderpump during season 10.

The full Dancing with the Stars fall 2016 pro cast –to date– includes Derek Hough, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Allison Holker, Emma Slater, Gleb Savchenko, Sasha Farber, Sharna Burgess, Witney Carson, Artem Chigvintsev, Lindsay Arnold, Valentin Chmerkovksiy, and Jenna Johnson.

Johnson earned a promotion to pro coach after serving as a member of the DWTS performance troupe for several seasons. Tony Dovolani is officially out, and Mark Ballas’ status has yet to be confirmed.

Rumored DWTS2016 celebrity cast members

Although ABC doesn’t comment on celebrity cast rumors, several familiar folks have allegedly signed on to take part in season 23. Some included in the mix are Little Women: LA star Terra Jole, Grammy winner Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds, model Amber Rose, and Disney star Jake T.

Austin. A hint dropped on Twitter suggested that Arnold will be paired up with a football star, thougha name has yet to surface.

The DWTS 2016 cast will hit the ballroom for the first time on Sept. 12.

Fans of “Dancing With the Stars” will still need to wait until Fall to see how the show will change things up for its latest installment after a year-long hiatus from the schedule on ABC, but that doesn’t mean fantasy wish lists haven’t already begun in regards to celebrities who may or may not participate for the 28th run.

It was previously revealed that the show was going to step things up in terms of the celebrities they got to join the cast for this season, which means there isn’t as much of a limit on the people they can ask. With that in mind, here are the different names that have been floated around as potential contenders.

Samantha Barks

A post shared by @samanthabarks on Apr 4, 2019 at 1:43pm PDT

Fans know her best as Éponine from the 2012 film adaptation of “Les Misérables,” but she’s also currently making Broadway fans fall in love with her by starring as Vivian in the stage adaptation of “Pretty Woman.”

Naomi Campbell

The model/singer is also considered a good candidate for the show because of her long and storied career—and her name is the kind that could bring some recognition and new fans to the show.

Misty Copeland

While the New York City Ballet’s former Principal dancer could be seen as having an advantage due to her extensive background, Copeland could prove that a dance background isn’t always an advantage in the competition, since there is very different footwork required in the ballroom.

Robert Irwin

A post shared by Robert Irwin (@robertirwinphotography) on May 13, 2019 at 7:29pm PDT

Steve Irwin’s son has expressed interest in doing the show, and if he does, he would be following a tradition that has appeared on the show in the past, with siblings competing a few seasons apart from one another and seeing how the other fares. While sibling duos like Kim and Robert Kardashian both managed to not win a Mirrorball in their seasons, Nick Lachey had big shoes to fill after his brother Drew won the Mirrorball in Season 2. Much like Lachey, Irwin would also have to live up to something huge, since his sister, Bindi, took the Mirrorball home in Season 21.

However, the nature conservationist has already warned that if he were to do the show, no one should expect him to follow in his sister’s footsteps.

“I don’t think I’d be as good as Bindi. She was incredible,” he told Entertainment Tonight.

Dina Lohan

After competing on “Celebrity Big Brother,” Lindsay Lohan’s mother revealed she was convinced to compete if asked by speaking to her “CBB” castmates who all had previously been a part of the show.

Jennifer Love Hewitt

During an appearance on “The Talk,” where she served as a Guest Co-Host, the actress revealed she would love to join the show to judge Carrie Ann Inaba. She seems like a perfect fit for the cast considering her level of celebrity and long career—and she certainly wouldn’t take much convincing.

Katelyn Ohashi

A post shared by katelyn ohashi (@katelyn_ohashi) on May 18, 2019 at 11:58am PDT

The Viral gymnastics star, who is close friends with Simone Biles, admitted to a desire to be on the show and has hinted she could be cast by saying she’s had casual conversations with people from the show as well.

Shannon Purser

Pictured: Shannon Purser attends the “Wish Upon” Atlanta screening at Regal Cinemas Atlantic Station Stadium 16 on July 11, 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia. Photo: Getty Images/Marcus Ingram

The “Stranger Things” and “Riverdale” star could definitely bring a younger audience to the show considering the fanbases she has gathered from her previous roles.

Kelly Rowland

To fulfill a need for a musician on the show, the best option would be former Destiny’s Child, Kelly Rowland.

“Dancing With the Stars” Season 28 airs this Fall on ABC.

Who will compete for good scores from Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli on Season 28 of “Dancing With the Stars?”

Maksim Chmerkovskiy Reveals Why He’s Not Returning to Dancing with the Stars

Maksim Chmerkovskiy won’t try to add one last Mirrorball Trophy to his mantle.

On Monday’s episode of The Real, cohost Loni Love admitted she was “very disappointed because you decided not to go back to Dancing with the Stars.”

Showing off his trademark humor, Maks joked that he didn’t feel like his absence would have made that much of an impression.

“I have a sibling that looks just like me, does the same stuff, and says similar things,” he said, alluding to his younger brother Val Chmerkovskiy.

Getting serious, Maks, 38, explained that his growing family contributed to his decision to stay off the show.

“I’m a dad, I’m a husband,” he remarked, adding that “your chemistry changes when you have a child, things look different, they seem different.”

The reality star is married to fellow DWTS pro Peta Murgatroyd, with whom he shares son Shai Aleksander, 20 months.

“There’s also something to be said for what the show is itself,” Maks continued, adding that while he’ll always be a “big supporter” of the beloved ABC program, he no longer wants to participate in the competitive aspect of the show.

“You find yourself politicking for your votes,” he said, adding that while he wasn’t always successful at staying cool-headed during the 12 years he was on the program, “you find you have to be a certain way because you don’t want your antics to cost your partner their votes.”

But these days, the dancer wants “people to know me for me, and not that guy who was there.”

“I’m not saying that a lot of things are now gonna be said, and I wasn’t real back then,” he continued. “I want what I say now to be understood that it’s me, it’s not, well, he has to say that.”

Chmerkovskiy last returned to the DWTS ballroom in 2017, partnering with television personality Vanessa Lachey.

His first and only win came during season 18, when he helped lead Olympic ice dancer Meryl Davis to victory. Meanwhile Murgatroyd, 32, has two wins under her belt.

This season, Chmerkovskiy has encouraged his followers to root for his brother or Jenna Johnson, his future sister-in-law.

“Let’s get those fingers ready for some dialing, texting and typing, because it’s time to VOTE VOTE VOTE @dancingabc. As always, please vote for your favorites as long as those favorites are one of those two couples” he wrote on Instagram in September, alongside photos of his brother and partner Nancy McKeon, as well as Johnson and her partner Joe Amabile.

“Keeping it all in the family but secretly want @dance10jenna to have more mirrorballs than @iamvalc so he knows what it’s like to enter into ‘the rest of your lives’ type relationship with uneven balls in the household,” he joked, adding the hashtags, “JustSayingItHowItIs” and “NotBitterAtAll.”

While Val has since been eliminated from the competition, he’s the proud owner of two Mirrorball Trophies, while Johnson picked up her first win earlier this year during Dancing with the Stars: Athletes.

Dancing With the Stars fans are completely shook after hearing news about the upcoming 28th season.

On Wednesday, Good Morning America announced the group of stars and pros who will be competing on the show when it returns to ABC next month. While everyone seemed genuinely excited about the celebrity lineup — which includes Lamar Odom, Christie Brinkley and Hannah Brown — others were completely devastated to learn that two of their favorite pros will not be returning.

Arguably the most shocking of them all is Sharna Burgess, who won the mirrorball trophy with TV personality Bobby Bones last season. The red-headed beauty has consistently competed as a pro every season since 2013, when she made her debut with Andy Dick.

ET chatted with host Tom Bergeron just moments after the big reveal, where he told us Sharna seemed “surprised” when he spoke to her recently. “As a matter of fact, I was just texting with Sharna recently,” he said. “She was surprised and I was too. But again, that’s somebody else’s call.”

Meanwhile, Sharna took to Instagram to react to the news herself. “As I’m sure you’ve heard, I will not be returning to @dancingabc this season. I am unbelievably sad to not be back!!!” she wrote. “However, what I can wholeheartedly tell you is that it’s all good, ALL love and in this moment I can’t help but be grateful for the time and the journey that I’ve had, the people I’ve met, the incredible talent I’ve shared the stage with and the memories I’ve made. To say the least.. it’s been epic. ♥️ and to have finally won still feels as exciting and special as it did the moment @tombergeron said our names.”

“After nearly 9 years I feel like I grew up on the show. I am going to truly miss creating, storytelling and performing for you all, I’ll miss giving the transformative power of dance to the person in front of me, and I’ll miss seeing my DWTS family every day and watching them work their craft in ways that inspire me,” she continued. “Though nothing could ever replace my love for the show, there are things coming into my world that I’m excited to dive into now that I have time. Everything happens for a reason ♥️ you know me. I’ll share when I can. I have endless love and gratitude for all of you and for everyone at the show. For my fellow pros you light up the stage time and time again, you are what makes the show magical and I can’t wait to watch you shine. ✨ And to all 12 of my partners… thank you thank you and I adore you. I’ll be watching and cheering this coming season for all of my fam out on that dance floor!!! Good luck everyone, may this be the best season yet! Let’s go season 28!!! ? #dwts”

Naturally, fans immediately took to social media to voice their concerns, urging ABC to “BRING BACK SHARNA.”

“Don’t worry. She’ll be back at some point,” one fan wrote in response. “The reigning champ ALWAYS comes back!!”

Another longtime fan shared that she was “nervous” to break the news to her daughter. “She’s been waiting all year for @DancingABC just for her! We know you’re off doing big things though, Sharna! Happy for you! We adore you big time!”

“No Sharna, no watch,” another exclaimed.

Fans were equally torn up about not seeing Artem Chigvintsev, who has choreographed some of the spiciest pieces we’ve seen on the show (take, for example, any dance he put together for his now-girlfriend, Nikki Bella, during season 25).

“I just want to say how sad it makes me feel not to be part of Season 28 of DWTS,” Artem wrote in a lengthy post shared on his Instagram shortly after the announcement was made. “It’s been 10 years since I have joined this absolutely, one of a kind, incredible show! It has given me recognition as a dancer, choreographer and a teacher. I have had so many beautiful memories with all of my celebrity partners! They all have shaped me into the person that I am today.”

“Special thank you goes to all the people behind the camera who work extremely hard to not only impress our fans but to make our pro dancer’s visions come to life. What I will miss the most is working alongside my coworkers, the heroes of the show,” he continued. “I want to wish them and their new celebrity partners the best of luck this season! I want you all to make it better than it ever was before! Because our DWTS fans, who mean SO much to me, want DWTS to continue going strong for many, many years to come.”

Artem concluded his post with a special message to all the fans: “I want to thank you SO much for supporting me all these years! I simply couldn’t have done it without you! Without your love! Without your connection! And most importantly without your support! You all have no idea how much I will miss you all this season! I’m already missing you all so much! Even though this is so hard on me, I will be DWTS #1 fan, cheering you all on every Monday night! Good luck to everyone on Seasons 28! With lots of Love, Artem.”

Fans quickly flooded the comments section, sending Artem messages of love and support, like, “Chin up, brother. You’re the man!”

“Will miss you on DWTS, it wont be the same but brighter things lie ahead.”

A source tells ET that it’s not uncommon for dancers to take a season off and then come back for another season, adding that Sharna and Artem will still remain a part of the DWTS family. ET has reached out to ABC and reps for Sharna and Artem for comment.

Aside from Sharna and Artem, the fan-favorite pros we’ve seen from the past few seasons (like Val Chmerkovskiy, Emma Slater, Gleb Savchenko, Lindsay Arnold and Alan Bersten), are back, along with Peta Murgatroyd making her long-awaited return to the ballroom. There will also be two new pros joining this season — Pasha Pashkov and Daniella Karagach — who some may recognize from NBC’s World of Dance season two.

ABC entertainment president Karey Burke teased earlier this month during the Television Critics Association summer press tour that fans will be introduced to “really fun format changes” this season. While final details have yet to be revealed, we now know that there will be no troupe for the first time since season 11, and for the first time ever, viewers will have to tune in to the season premiere to find out who their favorite professional dancers will be paired up with on the ballroom floor.

“We have a lot of new people behind the scenes,” Tom explained to ET on Wednesday. “A new executive producer. There was a fairly widespread feeling among our viewers and among us on the show that we needed to take a look at things and maybe tweak things a bit.”

“So, you’ll see the results of those deliberations on Sept. 16,” he added. “I don’t want to give it all away, but the judges will have a little extra oomph this season.”

I remember season 19 was the season I really got into dwts & started watching every week & that was Artem’s first season as a pro & he instantly became my favorite & since then I’ve been rooting for him & it breaks my heart he never got his chance to win.

How ridiculous to drop a hugely popular Pro from @DancingABC and bring in two new Pros?! 🤷🏼‍♀️🙄 @artemchigvintse has a massive following, he’s a @bbcstrictly Champion, A World Class Dancer & is treated unfairly by DWTS like this???!!! 🤬 We’d love to know why DWTS? #bringbackartem

No one really knows why Sharna Burgess and Artem Chigvintsev were let go from “Dancing with the Stars” except the producers, but that, of course, hasn’t stopped people from speculating. One of the most popular theories for Burgess is that she was cut due to the backlash from her win last season with Bobby Bones. And even Bones himself considered that.

“I actually called and asked them ,” Bones told “Entertainment Tonight.” “Like, ‘Hey!’”

Producers assured the radio personality that was not the case and that in fact, his surprising win in spite of his lack of dance skills was a big selling point this season as they recruited celebrities. “If anything, the network, to me, was like, ‘We’re really happy you won because we were able to reach out to people who would have never come on the show because they couldn’t dance.’ And we were able to go, ‘Hey, here’s a guy who couldn’t dance and won,’” Bones shared.

SEE Val Chmerkovskiy is ‘disappointed’ Sharna Burgess and Artem Chigvintsev were dumped by ‘Dancing with the Stars’

Bones was just as shocked as fans were that Burgess was dropped. He had asked her three or four days before the cast reveal about her new partner, and Burgess replied that she didn’t know who it was yet. The next day, she told him she wasn’t asked to return.

“I think all of us were a little stunned by it,” he said. “Now why , I don’t really know. I don’t even know if they’ve told her. She had been there the longest and was one of the more popular ones, so it could have been a budget thing. I’m not really quite sure how that happened, but everyone was shocked by it.”

SEE Here’s how the new ‘Dancing with the Stars’ voting system works (you can’t even vote Week 1!)

The Season 27 champ, who’s pulling for his pal Lauren Alaina to win this season, will be in the ballroom for Monday’s big premiere. After the outrage over his polarizing victory, which was powered by his large fan base, the show tweaked the voting structure, now employing live voting nationwide during the broadcasts. “I’m happy that we broke the system,” Bones said of the changes. “So I think it’s great. It’s been on for 27 seasons, so it’s cool to actually move around. And I love the team there, so I’m pumped!”

And with the show finally returning after an extended hiatus, he hopes haters will stop getting their panties in a twist over his win. “I have a humongous Mirrorball in my living room that I look at and kiss every night before I go to bed. If anything, I think me winning last year showed a lot of people and celebrities that you don’t have to be a great dancer to win. You have to learn how to dance, but you also have to be great at engaging with the audience,” he said. “The backlash we still get is only from the people who are way too obsessed with that show. The hardcore ‘Dancing with the Stars’ people, they need to get over it. Everybody else, all my people and the silent majority, we’re in it together. We rock! They all need to shut up.”

Lauren Alaina Staves Off Elimination on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ [WATCH]

Lauren Alaina took two turns on the dance floor during Monday night’s (Nov. 11) episode of Dancing With the Stars. The country singer and her dance partner, Gleb Savchenko, performed twice — as did all six remaining contestants — during a week of competition devoted to the music of boy bands and girl groups, and staved off elimination for another week.

For their first dance, Alaina and Savchenko performed a quickstep to the Supremes’ “Can’t Hurry Love.” Prior to her performance, Alaina called her time on DWTS the “perfect recipe for healing my broken heart”: In early 2019, the singer called of her engagement to longtime love Alex Hopkins, and shortly before starting Dancing With the Stars, she broke up with her boyfriend, comedian John Crist.

Alaina and Savchenko’s quickstep earned mixed reviews from the DWTS judges, including guest judge Joey Fatone, an *NSYNC member and former contestant on the TV dancing competition. However, the judges awarded them 34 of a possible 40 points.

Alaina and Savchenko’s second dance was a rumba to the Backstreet Boys song “I Want It That Way.” The pair got a visit from the band’s AJ McLean during rehearsals for their performance, which earned 36 out of a possible 40 points.

“The growth is phenomenal,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba told Alaina after the pair’s dance. “There’s such a beautiful confidence and sensuality that is being exposed here.”

Alaina and Savechenko were one of the bottom two couples when all the votes from the judges and viewers were tallied on Monday night; however, the show’s judges chose to save them and eliminate former White House press secretary Sean Spicer. Alaina and Savechenko will, therefore, be competing in the Dancing With the Stars semi-finals next Monday (Nov. 18).

In addition to Alaina, Season 28’s Dancing With the Stars cast includes actor James Van Der Beek, former Bachelorette contestant Hannah Brown, comedian Kel Mitchell and more. The show pairs celebrities with professional dancers, with the pairings competition in an elimination-style competition until a winner is crowned at the end of the season.

Alaina is far from the first country artist to compete on Dancing With the Stars: Wynonna Judd, Chuck Wicks, Sara Evans, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Jana Kramer also previously appeared on the show. Kellie Pickler won the show back in 2013, while country radio DJ Bobby Bones won the show’s 27th season in 2018; in fact, it was Bones who convinced Alaina to accept the competitor spot.

These Country Personalities Have All Been on DWTS, Too:

Victory was clearer for peppy show business veteran Donny Osmond in season 9, when he was 51. And last season’s winner, Dirty Dancing actress Jennifer Grey, 50, earned her Mirror Ball trophy with tenacity and grit, triumphing over the exhaustion, stress and pain of injuries, including a ruptured disk in her back.

Beyond the winners, there have been numerous mature DWTS contestants who’ve made admirable showings. Among those: George Hamilton’s suave sophistication made him one of the attractions of season 2, in which he attained a respectable fifth place at age 66. Jerry Springer surprised many by faring equally well the following season at the same age. Soap star Susan Lucci took sixth at age 62 in season 7. Pixar and Cheers actor John Ratzenberger, 63, and beloved Dr. Quinn star Jane Seymour, 60, each came in sixth in their respective seasons as well.

Astronaut Buzz Aldrin drew deserved kudos simply for getting out on the floor and joining the competition at age 80, but he was never a serious contender and wound up second to last. Not so with arguably the most attention-grabbing — and oldest-ever — DWTS competitor, Cloris Leachman. The Oscar-winning original stole the show at age 82 in season 7 with such antics as sitting on judge Carrie Ann Inaba’s lap, and hung in past the halfway point of the season to come in seventh place.

Leonard wanted to end up like O’Hurley, Osmond and Grey, a winner. “I’m disappointed,” he said after the elimination show.
Still, he believes in dancing as fitness and says fitness is for everyone, at any age. He works out nearly every day. “Listen, when it’s all said and done, it’s your health. No matter how much money you have, fame you have, it’s your health that counts most. I take care of myself. I look at myself as being a classic, like an old car — I don’t know what model,” Leonard says with a laugh. “I like to keep that engine purring.”
