Christie Brinkley’s daughter finally responds to Wendy Williams over ‘DWTS’ drama

Sailor Brinkley-Cook is firing back at Wendy Williams, who accused her mom Christie Brinkley of faking an injury to get out of competing on “Dancing With The Stars.”

The 21-year-old slammed the talk show host’s accusations against her supermodel mom as “ridiculous” in an interview with People published Wednesday.

“How? How could that really be faked?” she said. “That’s crazy. My mom is not that type of girl.”

“She’s very genuine. She’s very real, and for her to put on a cast and be walking around and acting as if it’s fake – it’s wild,” she added. “But, you know, anyone who spews hatred needs more love, so love ya girl.”

Brinkley-Cook’s pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy added “no one’s expecting an apology from Wendy Williams,” but joked that when Brinkley’s arm heals “she’ll get that apology from Wendy Williams,” while shaking a fist.

Brinkley-Cook began competing on the show after her mother broke her arm during rehearsals, which “DWTS” showed in a harrowing clip during the September season premiere.

After Brinkley bowed out of the competition, Williams accused her of faking her injury on “The Wendy Williams Show,” saying video of the fall “looked fake as hell.”

The TV host said she didn’t “see a wrist and a shoulder being fractured.” Williams theorized Brinkley planned the injury right after “DWTS” hired her and knew “that she’d put her daughter Sailor in there.”

In a subsequent interview with People, Brinkley said she was “totally shocked, because I have been there for Wendy Williams.” She added: “That is so weird. I have to give her a call … I’m really stunned.”

Though Brinkley-Cook and Chmerkovskiy were eliminated during Monday’s emotional episode, the novice dancer recalled her mom’s advice following the disappointment.

“She just told me that, you know, things like this happen in life, and everything leads to some other great door opening,” Brinkley-Cook said. “Literally our team name is ‘c’est la vie’ – c’est la vie, such is life. This stuff happens, and I’m just so lucky that I had this experience.”

The “DWTS” contestant added she’s proud of the progress she made on the show, especially given her last-minute entry into the competition.

“I never in a million years would’ve thought that I would have been on this show. I didn’t sign up, I didn’t do the press trip before,” she said. “I literally jumped in for the first performance, and I’m just lucky that I made it to week six and I got to experience all of this.”

Is “DWTS” still in the future for Brinkley? According to Chmerkovskiy, the model certainly hopes so.

She’s a Sports Illustrated model

Brinkley-Cook is taking the modeling world by storm, and definitely not starting small. The 21-year-old appeared beside her mother in a 2017 of Sports Illustrated. In addition, the model had a collection of her own, unique images for the publication in the 2018 edition.

She’s an artist

Brinkley-Cook attended Parson’s School of Design in New York City for photography, according to Hollywood Life. She began her degree in 2016, though its unclear whether she is still enrolled.

She has 152K Instagram followers

The young model gives fans updates on her life via her successful Instagram account. While Brinkley-Cook posts professional photos from red carpets and modeling gigs, there’s also a casual feel to her account. Brinkley-Cook often posts photos of herself and her mom, as well as selfies and photos of herself as a child.

Her father is Peter Cook

Brinkley-Cook takes part of her last name from her father, Peter Cook. The architect and Brinkley split in 2006. “My parents had just gotten divorced and I was so confused about everything,” she wrote in an Instagram post in 2017. “There was this little after-school counseling session for kids with divorced parents that the school put me in called “banana splits”. Basically all we did was make banana splits and talk about how we have 2 christmas’ and how that was a plus lol.”

She’s all about body positivity

Brinkley-Cook has been open about her struggles with self-love. The model is vocal on Instagram about her own journey to appreciate the body she has. In 2017, Brinkley-Cook opened up about her struggles on Instagram, with a photo of herself, mother Brinkley and sister Alexa Ray Joel.

She detailed a long-lived struggle with body image, and noted how that’s changed. “My body and I have been through it all. But recently I have been liberated,” she wrote. “I am healthy, i treat myself well, and for that i’m happy. I’ve looked in the mirror and been able to LOVE the things about my body that beauty norms deem ‘undesirable’. I now have grown to know that my body is worthy of so many great things. I don’t need to be a size 0 to believe in myself.”

As has been much written about, Christie says that people have accused her of faking her broken arm so that she was able to leave DWTS and daughter Sailor was able to take her place.

Dancing with the Stars’ Sailor Brinkley-Cook on Stepping into Mom Christie’s Shoes, Body Image Issues and Learning to Face Her Fears

“This person thought that Dancing with the Stars, this amazing show that’s been on all these years, is going to lie, and that Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is going to lie and go along with it,” she tells Kelly Clarkson. “It was so ridiculous. At first, I wasn’t going to respond, but like any mom out there, when it is your child, you get a little riled up. It is just indicative of what is going on right now in America. We just need to love each other more.”

Kelly is in total agreement with that. In fact, she shows off a tattoo on her wrist which says, “Love Them More.”

“In childhood people were mean, and I was, ‘Why are people so mean?’” Kelly recalls. “I was at church and a really cool pastor said, ‘People who weren’t loved enough, that’s why they’re mean, so you need to love them more because they don’t even know how to reciprocate the feeling.’ So, it is true, love does heal a lot of things.”

DWTS Recap: Emotional Christie Brinkley Tells Her Daughter, ‘I Am So Proud of You, Sailor!’

Christie says she is doing really well, and while it is annoying because she broke her right hand, she will have the cast off in another month, so she really can’t complain.

“I never had so much fun breaking a bone before,” she says. “I was dancing with Val and it was going to be so much fun. ‘Uptown Girl’ was going to be my first dance. We had been practicing the rhumba, and Val said, ‘One for good measure because tomorrow we are doing blocking, so let’s run through one more “Uptown Girl.”’ It was at that point, I was starting the song, I caught my heel on my shoe and I fell down exactly wrong. The second it happened, I was, ‘I know I broke it.’”

The Kelly Clarkson Show airs weekdays on NBC. The interview with Christie and Sailor airs today.

Earlier in the year, she appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue alongside her two daughters. It marked the ninth time she’d been featured in the magazine.

In her book “Timeless Beauty,” Brinkley credited a number of factors for her ageless appearance, including eating a “rainbow diet” of fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants, drinking lots of water, keeping active and staying optimistic.

Christie Brinkley Shares Body-Positive Message with 1977 Bikini Pic That ‘Caused a Stir’

Christie Brinkley has graced the covers of many magazines, but she’s starting off 2020 by taking a trip down memory lane and looking back at some of her legendary editorial shoots.

The swimsuit model, 65, shared a photo of her June 1977 Cosmopolitan magazine cover on Instagram, and revealed the backstory behind the bikini-clad image.

“In 1977 this bathing suit caused a stir! At the time all the bikinis were low slung on the hip,” Brinkley wrote. “This high leg cut leg made the hip a new erogenous zone.”

Brinkley, who was 23 at the time, wore a Norma Kamali iridescent purple halter bikini top with a sweetheart-style neckline and a connecting high-cut ruched bottom.

“I couldn’t figure out how to put it on as just one string holds it all together!” she added about the suit.

She goes on to point out that there was no “retouching back then,” so she had some insecurities about the photo.

“I remember was worried that I looked fat,” she said. “I’m so glad that today our industry appreciates all shapes and sizes so we can just focus on being healthy. Not cookie cutter. Still there is something in some young girls that often makes them feel they just don’t measure up. I was one of them.”

She continued: “I look back at these and think that worry was such a waste of time. If only the perspective we gain with age that elevates the worries could be absorbed by the younger generation but I do think shifting the focus to feeling great is a great step in the right direction. Just thinking out loud as I sift thru a few photos.”

The mother of three has opened up about self love, and has publicly encouraged her daughters, Alexa Ray Joel, 34, and Sailor Brinkley Cook, 21, to love their bodies.

“I’ve had issues with my body image since before I can even remember,” Brinkley Cook wrote on Instagram. “I grew up not loving how I looked and felt held back because of it … I don’t need to be a size 0 to believe in myself. My body carries me each and every day, it loves the people I love, it holds what makes me healthy and strong, it bends it shakes it runs and it CHANGES. That is okay and that is beautiful…As a growing young woman SI showed me all bodies are different and all bodies are worthy of celebrating. Thank you thank you @si_swimsuit for celebrating my beautiful mama, my beautiful sister, I, and ALL WOMEN!!”

Alexa Ray also opened up on Instagram, posting photos of the SI Swim shoot.

“Let’s STOP degrading and START celebrating ourselves and others, from both the inside AND out. 👑🕊🦋There’s far too much degradation, competition, insecurity, and unhealthy standards associated with women and their bodies- particularly on social-media … We are all perfect, just as we are. Please know that. Thank you @si_swimsuit for showcasing all heights, shapes, and sizes. For within our distinctions, our quirks, and our self-perceived ‘flaws’… therein lies the beauty.”

In a second post she added, “This was a lesson in learning to let go, take the plunge, and embrace myself from both the inside AND out- which is something I struggle with each and every day. My purpose is to now pass along this lesson of unconditional self-love and self-respect to every woman who’s willing to listen.”

Christie Brinkley Posts A Throwback Bikini Pic With Body Positive Message

Christie Brinkley has worn countless bikinis throughout her career, but one seems to have made a lasting impact. On Monday, the 65-year-old supermodel posted a photo of her June 1977 Cosmopolitan cover on Instagram and shared the backstory behind the jaw-dropping pic.

“In 1977 this bathing suit caused a stir! At the time all the bikinis were low slung on the hip. This high leg cut made the hip a new erogenous zone,” Brinkley wrote in the caption. “I couldn’t figure out how to put it on as just one string holds it all together!”

For the cover, Brinkley sported a purple Norma Kamali bikini with a teeny-tiny, high-cut bottom. She went onto reveal how insecure she felt on set. “They didn’t have retouching back then,” she explained. “I remember I was worried I looked fat.”

Of course, Brinkley, who was 23 at the time, looks incredible on the cover, but her uncertainties are understandable. In her Instagram post, she goes on to discuss how happy she is with changes in the industry, especially that it’s more diverse and accepting now than it used to be.

“I’m so glad that today our industry appreciates all shapes and sizes so we can just focus on being healthy. Not cookie cutter,” Brinkley wrote, adding that she understands how it hard it can be to find self-confidence in today’s society. “Still there is something in some young girls that often makes them feel they just don’t measure up. I was one of them.”

She finished her post by sharing a life lesson with fans: “I look back at these and think that worry was such a waste of time. If only the perspective we gain with age that elevates the worries could be absorbed by the younger generation but I do think shifting the focus to feeling great is a great step in the right direction.”

Brinkley’s bikini post was met with overwhelming gratitude from followers, with many lamenting the same idea. “If I had my youthful days to do over again I would change so many things. Especially fretting about my weight. Wasted time,” one wrote. “I remember that issue. I was just 12 and my body and self confidence issues were just beginning for me. You were/are always my inspiration for positivity and confidence,” added another.

This isn’t the first time the supermodel has opened up about self-love, and she often shares inspiring stories on social media, encouraging women of all ages to love their bodies.

“I have nothing male modeling—it just wasn’t for me,” said Jack Brinkley-Cook, who, like his supermodel mother Christie Brinkley and his model sister Sailor, is signed to an agency—two, in fact, Untitled Entertainment and Abrams Artists. Instead, though, Brinkley-Cook is pursuing acting rather than the family bread and butter.

After a giving marketing a go at Emerson College for a year, Brinkley-Cook pivoted and studied at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in New York, where he graduated last year and he is now dreaming of working in theater or shooting Western movies, like Taylor Sheridan’s “amazing” film Wind River, which he’d just caught in the city the previous night.

But Brinkley-Cook is only based in the West Village for half of the year: He grew up in Bridgehampton, and has made a point to maintain ties out East ever since. “The Hamptons is home for me,” he said sincerely. “My friends and I go back every single weekend from Memorial Day to Labor Day, for the most part, and I try to get out there once or twice a month in the winter, just to sort of escape the city.”

Given that his favorite activities out there are surfing, hanging out, and grabbing drinks with his friends, it’s no surprise that Brinkley-Cook can usually be found in Montauk—and specifically in its mainstay, the Surf Lodge. (That also happens to be where he was first spotted publicly with the newly single Nina Agdal, another model and Surf Lodge regular who seems to have replaced her ex, one Leonardo DiCaprio, with Brinkley-Cook.)

Brinkley-Cook has “nothing to say” about summer flings, but he does have plenty to offer about his fitness regime in and around Montauk, where, despite all the notorious partying, he says it’s “the easiest thing in the world” to stay active. In addition to being a surfer, Brinkley-Cook and his crew of Hamptonites are some of the area’s biggest spearheads in spearfishing, a sport Montauk’s water is typically thought to be too murky for, and which they first took up by accident, when Brinkley-Cook and his buds headed to the local dive shop after pushing his teeny 24-foot boat to its limit and ended up walking with a couple of spear guns.

“We didn’t have luck at first, but a couple of tries later, we started getting some fish and then”—no pun intended—“we ultimately were hooked,” he said.

As Brinkley-Cook well knows, Agdal, for one, is a fan of Whole Foods, and the aspiring actor takes care to watch his diet, too—in part thanks to his model family. “I’m definitely grateful to have their influence when I eat,” he says of his mom and his sisters, who are all a combination of “super healthy,” vegan, and gluten-free. Not that their influence is overpowering: In addition to having a sweet tooth, Brinkley-Cook says he eats “100 percent” of the fish he catches—and makes sure to hit the local restaurants, too.

“I keep it fairly clean, but I eat a ton,” he said. “Like, I literally order three or four entrées. Well, I’ve been known to, but I usually order at least two. I’m starving, always. So hungry.”

Still, you won’t find any food pics on Brinkley-Cook’s Instagram—he leaves most of the ‘gramming to the rest of his fam—and especially his mom, who’s something of a pro. (She was, after all, the one to teach Mariah Carey about the importance of good lighting.)

“I follow a bunch of surfing accounts that are great, but it’s nice to see my fam on there and try to keep up with what my mom is doing,” Brinkley-Cook said. “It’s funny because sometimes I’ll be thinking, ‘What’s my mom up to? And I’ll go to her Instagram and it’s like, oh, she’s in the garden, there she is!’”

Find out more about where Brinkley-Cook usually hangs these days himself with his guide to his favorite spots in Montauk, here:

Go-to hang-out spots:
Well, I go surfing during the day, but to hang out and grab drinks, my friends and I will go to Surf Lodge. And Happy Bowls is great for a snack during the day—that’s kind of our go-to.

Best surfing spots:
There’s a bunch; it’s highly dependent on the direction of the wind, and the direction and size of the swell. If you’re west of Montauk, the best thing is just to scour the beaches for the best sand bar. In Montauk, Ditch Plains is ultimately the most consistent and one of my favorite breaks in the world.

Favorite place to spearfish:
There’s this bluff that’s like 100 feet tall and which we actually just swim to right off shore. We eat 100 percent of the fish we catch, which is funny, because in New York City I’ll never order fish, but I find the variety of fish in Montauk and the Hamptons to be the best ever. I love striped bass; I love fluke; I love tuna. On Sunday, my boys and I always barbecue.

Go-to workout regime:
Out there, we primarily surf and spearfish, but we also do a bit of sailing and wake-boarding and running around outdoors. We try to surf every day. In the city, I spend time at the gym, I try to lift, but out there it’s all spent outdoors. For me, getting out there is all about spending as much time in the water as possible. I actually find I stay the most active out there.

Sailor Brinkley-Cook admitted stepping into her mother’s dancing shoes was incredibly daunting — at first.

Just hours before the 2019 season premiere of “Dancing with the Stars,” Christie Brinkley announced she was done with the competition series.

The 65-year-old revealed on “Good Morning America” on Monday that she broke her arm during rehearsals and will need to undergo surgery. Brinkley-Cook, 21, took her mother’s place on the hit reality show.

CHRISTIE BRINKLEY OPENS UP ABOUT ‘DWTS’ INJURY IN EMOTIONAL INTERVIEW

“I didn’t want to at first, honestly,” Brinkley-Cook told People magazine on Tuesday. “I was terrified. It was a very scary thing for me. The whole idea of having to be live on stage, be on TV dancing, that’s something I’ve never done before.”

“I was so scared, but that was the reason I had to do it,” she continued. “I had to surpass the fear. I had to be stronger than the things that scare me. told me to have fun with it and to not let fear stop me from doing any of it.”

For the premiere, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit pinup made her grand entrance with a floor-length white gown, which was the same one designed for her mother. Brinkley-Cook danced the foxtrot to Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl.”

Joel and Brinkley were married from 1985 until 1994. The former couple shares a daughter named Alexa Ray Joel.

“Sailor is truly one fearless, strong, amazing person who just always impresses me,” the proud matriarch told the magazine before the premiere.

According to the outlet, her pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy felt the same way.

‘DANCING WITH THE STARS’ CAST ANNOUNCED: CHRISTIE BRINKLEY, ‘BACHELORETTE’ HANNAH B., SEAN SPICER AND MORE TO COMPETE FOR MIRROR BALL TROPHY

“Obviously it was a very extraordinary situation, but it wouldn’t be ‘Dancing with the Stars’ without a little excitement,” explained the 33-year-old. “In 15 seasons I’ve never had an experience like this. I’m glad I did. I’m glad I was the one that was put in this position. I’m really grateful for the challenge and I’m grateful I got to share it with an awesome person like Sailor.”

CHRISTIE BRINKLEY’S KIDS SAY THEY ‘HATE’ BEING CALLED ‘CELEBRITY CHILDREN’: ‘IT CAN STUNT YOUR GROWTH’

Brinkley-Cook previously told “Good Morning America” on Monday that she quickly had to learn the star’s dance routine just hours before performing live.

“I’m doing this mostly for my mom,” said Brinkley-Cook. “I just want to make her proud. She loved doing this. She loves dancing and she loves performing, and getting hurt was her worst nightmare.”

ABC and BBC Studios told Fox News on Monday: “While rehearsing for the premiere of ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ Christie Brinkley suffered injuries which required surgery to her wrist and arm. She is unable to continue her planned participation on the show.

“Keeping it all in the family, her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook, a Sports Illustrated model, has chosen to quickly step in with hours to learn the entire routine and will compete in her mother’s place for the remainder of the season. We wish Christie a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her in the audience, whenever possible, proudly supporting Sailor.”

CHRISTIE BRINKLEY’S KIDS ‘LAUGHED’ WHEN SHE JOINED ‘DANCING WITH THE STARS’

Brinkley told People magazine in August that her children had a surprising reaction to their mom joining the competition. Brinkley has three children: Alexa Ray, 33; Jack Brinkley-Cook, 24; and Sailor Brinkley-Cook.

“They laughed,” admitted Brinkley. “They were like, ‘Oh, you’re going to do ‘Dancing with the Stars?’”

While Brinkley’s kids were unsure about their mother’s chances, she told the outlet they were thrilled to learn the names of the other celebrity contenders.

“They got really excited when they started hearing about some of the other people that were coming,” Brinkley explained. “You know, there were like leaks coming out of, maybe there is going to be this person or that, and I know my daughter Sailor is a big Karamo fan. So she was like, ‘I’ll be there to visit.’”

Fox News’ Sasha Savitsky contributed to this report.

Christie Brinkley was hands down the proudest person in the room after watching daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook perform on the Dancing with the Stars season 28 premiere.

The supermodel, 65, was originally paired with pro Val Chmerkovskiy but fell and broke her arm during rehearsals. The solution? She asked her 21-year-old daughter to step in just three days before the premiere, after mom had rehearsed for three weeks.

“I have never danced before,” Brinkley-Cook said during her first rehearsal with Chmerkovskiy. “Here I am and it’s scary but I feel this adrenaline rush from wanting to pay homage to my mom. This is for you, mom.”

During the premiere, Sailor wore a white floor-length gown, which was originally designed for her mom, and danced a foxtrot to Billy Joel’s “Uptown Girl.” How appropriate considering Brinkley starred in the music video for the song, and was married to Joel for almost 10 years—they have a daughter together, Alexa Ray Joel, 33.

Right after Sailor stopped dancing, the two shared a sweet embrace as they both held back tears.

“I’m so proud of her. I’m so proud of you, Sailor,” Brinkley said during the episode.

Christie Brinkley says it was a joint idea of herself and the producers of “Dancing With the Stars” to have her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook replace her after Brinkley broke her arm.

Brinkley-Cook, 21, adding details to her previously given recollections, told Clarkson that when her mother phoned her, “I said no way.” Already on a plane to California to support her mother at the taping, “I’m … about to take off, wheels are moving, and she calls me and she goes, ‘Sailor, I found the silver lining.’ … I was, like, ‘What, you need me to stop at CVS, you need anything, anything from home, like bring the dog, maybe?’ And she’s like, ‘No, you should go on “Dancing With the Stars”!’ “

The request came as a shock, she said, particularly with the show premiering within days. But after some convincing, “I said to her, my final thing was, ‘OK you know what? Why not? I’ll try, and we’ll meet the producers and we’ll see from there.’ And now I’m on this five-hour flight thinking, ‘Am I about to be on “Dancing With the Stars”? Like, what is my life about to be?’ “

Earlier in the segment, Brinkley added detail to the moment in which she fell during “DWTS” rehearsals with professional ballroom partner Val Chmerkovskiy. “I was dancing with Val, who is so much fun, and … ‘Uptown Girl’ was going to be my first dance. And we had been practicing the rumba and at the very end of the day he goes, ‘Y’know what? … Tomorrow we do blocking and stuff like that, so let’s just run through one more “Uptown Girl.” ‘ And it was at that point that I started the song and I was just walking by and I caught my heel on my shoe and I fell down exactly wrong. … And the second it happened I was like, ‘Oh, no, I think I broke it! I know I broke it!”

Sailor took Christie’s place on the latest season of “Dancing with the Stars” following her mother’s injuries during rehearsals. Sailor was ultimately eliminated third, leaving the mother-daughter duo “heartbroken.”

“She was just as heartbroken as I am,” Sailor said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I don’t think that any of my close family or friends, they didn’t think that this would happen. So I was not only sad that this experience ended for me, but for them too. Because they loved watching, they loved tuning in. They were always my biggest support system.”

“My mom was always so excited,” she continued. “She was planning on coming back next week. Everyone sort of had this idea that they were going to have this show to root on.”

ABC and BBC Studios told Fox News at the time: “While rehearsing for the premiere of ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ Christie Brinkley suffered injuries which required surgery to her wrist and arm. She is unable to continue her planned participation on the show. Keeping it all in the family, her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook, a Sports Illustrated model, has chosen to quickly step in with hours to learn the entire routine and will compete in her mother’s place for the remainder of the season. We wish Christie a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her in the audience, whenever possible, proudly supporting Sailor.”

Christie explained to “GMA” in a statement at the time: “Showbiz is all about getting a break, and Sailor and I both got one on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ this season.”

Brinkley-Cook quickly stepped in to start learning her mom’s dance moves just hours before her first live “DWTS” performance.

“I’m doing this mostly for my mom. I just want to make her happy and make her proud,” she previously said. “She loved doing this. She loves dancing and she loves performing, and getting hurt was her worst nightmare.”

Brinkley-Cook took to Instagram Tuesday to lament the loss further.

“Last night was heartbreaking. I was so not ready for this experience to finish so soon but wow am i grateful for every minute of it,” she wrote in part. “I loved every sweaty moment in the rehearsal studio pushing myself past so many inhibitions and insecurities, and laughing my way through it all with my buddies.”
