Chip gaines man bun

The most polarizing thing about the HGTV hit “Fixer Upper” isn’t the interior designs or the exterior paint colors or even the generous use of shiplap.

No, it’s the hair.

While fans love renovation guru Chip Gaines, many have been vocal about his long — wind-blown and sometimes man-bunned — locks. But no more!

Chip’s wife and home-improvement partner, Joanna, just shared a photo of his amazing hair-free makeover.

That’s right! Chip no longer has long hair — or any hair — and it’s all for a good cause.

Last week, he announced that he knew his fans “hated” his ‘do, but he wanted them to prove just how much, telling them, “Now’s the time to put your money where your mouth is.” ⠀

And they did.

Chip vowed that donations made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would determine how much he lopped off.

“And, who knows, maybe if you really exceed my expectation … I’ll buzz it all off,” he wrote at the time.

Well, it looks like “Fixer Upper” followers really came through. When Chip and Joanna visited St. Jude’s Target House in Memphis this week, he took it all off.

But for the couple, it really wasn’t about the hair.

“We are leaving Memphis changed,” Joanna wrote alongside the shot she shared on Instagram. “Kiddos of @stjude we go with your faces on our minds and your stories in our hearts. Thank you for letting us be a part of your home at Target House. We are cheering you on every step of the way.”

Chip Gaines, is that you? The Fixer Upper star shaved his head — and seems to love it. His wife, Joanna Gaines, showed off the new bald look in an Instagram post on Wednesday, November 8.

The couple visited the Target House with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Chip chopped off his red locks for a good cause after fans donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“Thank you for letting us be a part of your home at Target House,” Joanna, 39, added on Wednesday. “We are cheering you on every step of the way.”

Last week, Chip, 42, promised that he would shave off his hair if fans got involved. “No family ever pays @StJude for treatment, travel or food—so basically, we want to bring them a giant check from YOU to help cover costs—lets come together to do something big to bless these kiddos,” he wrote via Instagram on November 2. “Donate to St. Jude through the link in my profile, and the more money we raise over the next FOUR days, the shorter my hair goes. That’s a promise. And, who knows, maybe if you really exceed my expectations…I’ll buzz it all off.”

As previously reported, the HGTV stars announced in September that Fixer Upper would end after its fifth season, which premieres this month.

Back when Fixer Upper premiered in 2013, co-host Chip Gaines looked just like a clean-cut husband who would raise four kids on a Texas farm. But everyone’s favorite redheaded contractor is letting loose for the HGTV’s show fifth season.

According to his wife Joanna’s recent Instagram post, Chip is now the undeniable owner of a … dun dun dun … man bun.

He competes with the view. Man bun, tube socks, adult onesie and all… He still looks mighty fine to me❤️#workcation #bookcamp

That’s right, Chip Gaines is embracing the unofficial hipster hairstyle (albeit a few years late) and growing out his ‘do. “Man bun, tube socks, adult onesie and all … He still looks mighty fine to me,” Joanna Gaines captioned the cute couple pic.

While she sounds a little reluctant about the whole look (an adult onesie?!), lots of Chip-loving fans can’t get enough of the new shag.

Of course, that hasn’t stopped the haters from piling on some words of disapproval — and emoji scissors in the post’s comments. “Just say NOOOO to the man bun. It’s not cute on ANY man! Ewwww,” one user wrote. “I love you guys but you look like you’re going through a mid-life crisis”, another person added. Ouch.

The journey from short to shag started earlier this year, when Chip started growing out the usual clipped cut:

Chip Gaines Just Shaved His Head for Charity

Chip and Joanna Gaines wrapped the final season of their HGTV show Fixer Upper last week, and now they’re already making big changes to their lives. One of the first things to get a drastic makeover? Chip’s hairstyle.

RELATED: 5 Unexpected Lessons I Learned From My Fixer Upper

Chip’s hair is a polarizing topic on the show—some fans have complained about his long, shaggy hair. The HGTV star acknowledged it in an Instagram post last week and decided to use this “controversy” for a good cause. He wrote, “It’s come to my attention that most of you hate my current hairstyle. But how MUCH do you hate it? Now’s the time to put your money where your mouth is.”

Chip and Joanna were scheduled to visit the children of Target House at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee—so he challenged his fans to donate to St. Jude. “The more money we raise over the next FOUR days, the shorter my hair goes. That’s a promise. And who knows, maybe if you really exceed my expectations…I’ll buzz it all off.”

Well, the results are in and it looks like fans were more than generous—he shaved it all off. Joanna posted an Instagram photo of the children at St. Jude touching Chip’s newly-bald head. “We are leaving Memphis changed. Kiddos of @stjude we go with your faces on our minds and your stories in our hearts,” Joanna wrote.

In the running for most beloved celeb couple, everyone has a favorite. Some choose the posh power pair that is the Beckhams. Others can’t get over the sentimental story of how Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis met years ago on the set of That 70s Show. But for reality TV lovers, there is no other duo that has stolen America’s hearts — while doling out some practical home renovation tips — quite like HGTV’s Chip and Joanna Gaines.

While we were borderline heartbroken to find out this season of Fixer Upper will be its last, the shockers continued to roll as we learned that Chip has totally transformed his look — by buzzing off his signature shaggy hair. That’s right: He has officially said goodbye to his man bun.

We can’t say he didn’t warn us. Last week, Chip posted a photo to Instagram, grimacing as scissors were held next to his almost shoulder-length dude bob with a caption challenge. “It’s come to my attention that most of you hate my current hairstyle,” he wrote below his photo. “But how MUCH do you hate it? Now’s the time to put your money where your mouth is.”

Chip asked fans to donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, offering inches for dollars. “The more money we raise over the next FOUR days, the shorter my hair goes — That’s a promise,” he wrote. “And, who knows, maybe if you really exceed my expectations…I’ll buzz it all off.”

And per Joanna’s most recent Instagram of the couple’s trip to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee — Chip definitely held up his end of the bargain.

As it appears, fans must’ve either really hated Chip’s unkempt mop or really wanted to support the important cause. Whatever the reason, Chip’s hair has been buzzed — all while raising money for children with cancer in the process. Chip and Joanna just got even cuter in our book.

Chip and Joanna Gaines’ fans love a good “Fixer Upper” story. That is, unless it pertains to Chip and Joanna Gaines themselves, it seems.

Joanna caused a stir among her fans earlier this week when she posted an adorable, seemingly harmless photo of herself and husband Chip snuggling in front of a gorgeous, bucolic backdrop. They look wonderfully relaxed and casual, with one of Joanna’s pant legs rolled up, and her husband giving her a loving smooch on the head.

But it wasn’t Joanna’s look that caught everyone’s attention: it was the way Chip had gathered his shaggy hair (usually hidden under a baseball cap) up into an approximation of … a man bun!

To be fair, Chip’s locks do not quite rise to the occasion of “bun.” This is more like a “get it out of my face” top knot. But that didn’t stop fans from posting over 5,000 comments that ranged from “love” to “what are you doing, man?”

We’re more interested in one of Joanna’s hashtags: #bookcamp. We know Chip has a book coming out in October, “Capital Gaines: Smart Things I Learned Doing Stupid Stuff,” but perhaps there’s another entry on the horizon? Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Chip and Joanna Gaines have made headlines again, but not because of a new design or product.

The “Fixer Upper” stars have gone viral after Joanna posted a seemingly adorable (and rather harmless) photo to Instagram of herself and Chip.

WANNA BE ON TV? How to get featured on HGTV

However cute it may be, fans flipped out when they saw Chip sporting a messy, half-up-half-down man bun.

Yes, it would seem that he has crossed over to the dark side, and the Internet is having none of it.

One commentor said, “just say no to man buns, just sayin!”

Another person said “Bad hair Chip.”

Still others commented things like “I can’t un-see this” and “Noooooooooo man bun!!”

Of course, the only opinion that really matters is Joanna’s and it seems she’s perfectly fine with the new look.

“He competes with the view,” Gaines said in the post. “Man bun, tube socks, adult onesie and all… He still looks mighty fine to me.”

If Joanna is happy, then you do you Chip.
