Milani’s Conceal + Perfect Foundation is a full coverage and water-resistant foundation. It efficiently conceals redness and scars. The glass bottle comes with a very precise pump, and its formula is thick with a sweet Shea butter like scent. Quick Tips: How To Choose And Apply Full-Coverage Foundation Like A Pro

Now that you’re acquainted with which foundations you could unquestionably consider while picking out a full-coverage foundation, here’s a guide to choosing the right formula for you to achieve that non-cakey, flawless coverage we all desire.

Consider What Your Skin Needs

It’s important to pick a formula that suits your skin type. Foundations are specially formulated for different skin types. For instance, if you’re trying to cover red pigmentation, a creme-to-powder foundation works beautifully. It also prevents shine. Liquid or cream-based foundations are great for normal to dry skin. Stick foundations are best for normal to oily skin.

SPF For The Win!

Make sure you do your research before choosing a brand because not all high-coverage foundations include SPF. It’s so essential to prevent premature skin aging, and your older self will thank you for it!

It’s All In The Prep

This is perhaps the most important factor to keep in mind when you’re going in for a full-coverage look – it’s all in the prep! You need to hydrate your skin so well that it does not have a chance of looking flakey, cakey or dry. You can either use a face oil or a heavy moisturizer underneath, instead of a light one.

Problem Skin?

If you tend to break out often, it’s always best to use an oil-free foundation that works well for sensitive skin. If your skin is on the drier side, try an oil-based formula.

Follow An Order

Apply your base makeup in the right order – color correction, foundation, and concealer – this is how it goes.

Pick Out The Right Shade, Always

When choosing a shade, the best thing to do is to choose a color that’s as close to your skin tone as possible. If not that, you can maybe go one shade warmer. If you’re still in doubt, try taking a daylight selfie to see if the color works for you.

The Way You Apply Matters

When applying your foundation, use a makeup sponge and start from the center of your face and work outwards a more natural finish. Also, blend your foundation seamlessly over your ears and neck.

Always apply foundation in good natural light – this will help ensure you walk out of your house with no telltale signs that you have makeup on and it will also help you check if you got the shade right.

Set your foundation with a luminous powder, so it helps you take down shine and keeps your makeup in place for longer hours.

A good foundation should unify your tone, but it shouldn’t take away the individuality of your skin. Also, don’t be afraid to try a high-coverage foundation – they are rather great for special occasions and photographs. Do you have a go-to full-coverage foundation? What factors do you consider before picking one? Let me know in the comments section below.

These Are The 7 Best Full-Coverage Foundations

If there’s one product we’ll never stop searching for, it’s the perfect full-coverage foundation. Even on our good skin days, who doesn’t love the pore-blurring, skin-perfecting benefits of a full-coverage foundation? If you’re anything like us cake faces at Huda Beauty, a good full-coverage foundation is everything! It does the most, so you don’t need to worry about a thing all day long.

So we’ve rounded up our foundations that actually ARE full coverage – aka, they hide signs of redness, conceal our pimples and pigmentation, and help to banish dark circles when we’ve been living our best lives. These seven bomb foundations are also long-wearing af, weightless, and full of good-for-your-skin ingredients. Here are our tried and tested, fave full-coverage foundations right now.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, $42

Finish: Natural, dewy finish
Shades: 53, from fair to rich
The deets: 30ml, non-acnegenic, dermatologist-tested

The formula: One of the best-selling foundations of all time, this iconic, very fluid formula is super full-coverage and long-wearing. It works beautifully on all skin types – from dry to oily great – and it’s a great non-irritating foundation for acne-prone and oily skin, as it’s oil and fragrance-free and has been certified as non-acnegenic. The vast range of shades and diversity of undertones mean that there’s a match for every skin tone. We also love that no matter the humidity or weather, this stays put ALL day!
Tip: Set with a loose setting powder.

Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Foundation, $40

Finish: Natural satin-matte finish
Shades: 30, from fair to rich
The deets: 35ml

The formula: This thick, creamy formula is like magic in a bottle – it’s literally a real-time filter for your face. It adds an instant veil of color to conceal imperfections, while also masking texture. The formula is so rich, you only need one pump for the entire face, and it has a beautiful luminosity to it, so it looks like real skin.
Tips: Start with a hydrating or mattifying primer, depending on your skin type, and set with a loose powder.

Morphe Fluidity Full-Coverage Foundation, $18

Finish: Very matte
Shades: 60, from very fair to very rich
The deets: 30ml

The formula: This extreme-coverage foundation blends like a dream and covers ERRRRYTHING in site. Plus, the shade range is unbelievable, so you’ll be able to find a true match no matter what your shade or undertone. Our only slight problem with this foundation is that it doesn’t last as well as some of the others – but the coverage is just SO good. We like to mix this with any of our other foundations, which helps to improve wear-time and give insane coverage – even diluted, this covers like a boss.
Tips: Start with a pore-smoothing primer, we love the Tarte Base Tape Primer. This sets to a matte, transfer-proof finish, but if you have oily skin, we recommend setting with a powder.

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation, $39

Finish: Natural finish
Shades: 34, from fair to rich
The deets: 30ml, non-comedogenic

The formula: This fluid formula blends like a dream and covers marks and imperfections easily. It wears beautifully all day and doesn’t go patchy or break up. This is what we call a foolproof foundation!
Tips: Start with a hydrating or mattifying primer, depending on your skin type, and set with a loose powder. You can apply a thin, extra layer to areas that may need more coverage.

Physicians Formula The Healthy Foundation, $16

Finish: Satin finish
Shades: 16, from fair to deep
The deets: 30ml, SPF 20

The formula: This is listed as a medium-coverage foundation, but we’re actually super impressed with the skin-transforming finish. It’s lightweight, breathable, and boosts your glow and your complexion, making it a firm fave in our book. It lasts all day without breaking up or settling into fine lines and blurs imperfections. It’s also really long-lasting, no matter what your skin type.
Tips: For extra coverage, use a dense, flat foundation brush to stipple the foundation onto your skin, then use a damp makeup sponge to blend. Set it with powder to keep it locked in.

Diorskin Star Studio Foundation, $50

Finish: Natural matte finish
Shades: 15, from fair to deep
The deets: 30ml, SPF 30 – PA++

The formula: This brightening foundation uses hollow silica beads to capture and diffuse light to create a correcting ‘halo effect,’ while color-filter pigments neutralize color imbalances. The creamy formula blends easily (whether with a brush, sponge or hands), and gives a gorgeous natural finish that doesn’t emphasize pores while remaining extra long-lasting. It is an incredible formula; we just wish it had a better offering for deeper skin tones.
Tips: Apply a hydrating primer and set with a loose powder.

Posts You’ll Love:

NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation, $49

Finish: Radiant matte
Shades: 33, from fair to rich
The deets: 30ml, non-comedogenic, dermatologist-tested

The formula: This foundation has a unique skin-matching technology, which means it will actually fit even more than 33 unique skin tones. This gives really full coverage, and it blends out nicely with both a brush and a sponge. The formula doesn’t set to a powder or transfer-proof finish, so we recommend setting with a loose powder.
Tips: If you have oily skin, use a mattifying primer and be sure to set with a loose powder.

Application Tips for Full Coverage:

Start by applying foundation with a flat brush, like the Huda Beauty Buff & Blend Brush, $25, in a stippling motion (soft patting motions). Then rub your hands together to warm them up, and gently pat the product into your skin – this will take off any excess product, but it’s also going to help the makeup melt into your skin. You can use your hands to apply it if you like, but it can get a little messy.

How to Layer Foundations:

First off, start with a full-coverage foundation, this means you’re less likely to need to layer your foundation. If you still need extra coverage, then only target those areas, instead of applying a second layer to your entire face, which could end up looking cakey. For a second layer, we recommend stippling the foundation on top with a flat, dense brush. Then take a damp beauty blender and gently bounce it across your face to ensure any excess product is absorbed or fully blended.

Full coverage foundations really can be little life saviours. Whether you woke up to a family of spots on your chin (thanks mother nature) or you just prefer the extra coverage, they are a makeup bag staple. But what ones offer the best coverage? We tested the 5 best full coverage foundations on half our face to see the difference.

1. Marc Jacobs Re(Marc)able Full Cover Foundation Concentrate, £37

King of the Booth

This foundation promises 24 hours of “full, flawless coverage” with the teeniest tiniest amount of product. It contains twice as much pigment as other full coverage foundations, which after testing I can definitely say is true. The shade isn’t quite right for me (obvs), but I gave it a go anyway.

I applied this with the Marc Jacobs The Face III Buffing Foundation Brush, £37 which worked a dream. I only needed the tiniest amount of foundation to cover half my face; it just blends and blends and blends. Out of all 5 this foundation definitely had the highest coverage, but it was a little too much for me, I prefer it when a foundation has high coverage but doesn’t sit on the skin or look too heavy.

2. Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation, £32

King of the Booth

I have used this foundation before and loved it so knew it wouldn’t let me down. Compared to the Marc Jacobs foundation, the coverage was lighter but it still hid everything I wanted it to. The only thing I would say is that this does tend to cling to dry patches of skin so better for combo to oily skin types (or just make sure you use a moisturiser before applying).

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation King of the Booth

3. Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup, £33.50

King of the Booth

Ahh good old Double Wear, it’s been around forever, cementing its cult status. It’s available in 44, yes 44 shades and is just as reliable as ever. It covers everything and lasts all friggin’ day. I used to wear Double Wear back in the day, so testing it out again was like taking a trip down memory lane. I know so many women who swear by this foundation and I can totally see why, it’s basically the perfect boyfriend.

4. Vichy Dermablend Fluid Corrective Foundation, £18.76

King of the Booth

Out of the 5 this felt the most hydrating on my skin, definitely a winner for normal to dry skin types. I felt you could actually sheer this out if you wanted to, either by using less or adding a drop of moisturiser. Second to the Marc Jacobs, this had the best coverage.

5. Rimmel Lasting Finish 25-Hour Foundation, £5.81

King of the Booth

The cheapest of the bunch, but don’t let that put you off. This gives full coverage without feeling like you’re wearing a mask. It doesn’t transfer which is a gift from god if you’ve ever had the unfortunate mishap of hugging a man in a suit and leaving an imprint of your face. Out of all 5 this is the one that I could imagine wearing everyday as it’s not a crazy amount of coverage.

Barely there, “no makeup makeup” is always in style, but so is minimalist makeup’s precise opposite: full coverage glam. And while we’re equally as keen on letting skin peek through along with freckles and blemishes, when you’re going to event, planning on being photographed or just feel like going glam, a flawless facial backdrop is key. And in moments like these, the best full coverage drugstore foundations, well, have you covered.

Prestige and luxury brands are no stranger to offering high-coverage bases, including Estee Lauder’s legendary Double Wear and Marc Jacob’s insanely pigmented Re(marc)able Full Coverage Foundation, but lately, this accelerated interest in a doll-like complexion seems to have inspired affordable drugstore brands to jump on the wagon. These highly-pigmented foundations are not only wallet-friendly, but the advanced formulas are absolutely on-par with high-end and prestige counterparts that cost triple the price.

With that being said, we’ve rounded up some of the best-selling formulas on the market today. Not only are they all under $15 and backed by plenty of glowing customer reviews. They’re also frequently name-dropped by both beauty gurus and co-signed by editors. Take your pick.

Our mission at STYLECASTER is to bring style to the people, and we only feature products we think you’ll love as much as we do. Please note that if you purchase something by clicking on a link within this story, we may receive a small commission of the sale.

1. Rimmel Stay Matte Full Coverage Foundation

I’ve used this underrated foundation for years, and while they’ve recently updated the packaging to highlight its full coverage finish, the formula has thankfully not been tampered with. This gorgeous matte foundation has always delivered a silky, velvet-matte finish with solid flaw-erasing coverage, and is formulated with oil-controlling to keep shine and oil at bay. With that being said, if you have dry skin, you’ll want to make sure you have a rich moisturizer, hydrating primer, or facial oil underneath to keep it looking natural.

2. L’Oreal Infallible Total Cover Foundation

As a part of L’oreal’s long-wearing Infallible line, this mouse foundation is on the thicker side but actually feels surprisingly lightweight on the skin despite its blemish-blasting coverage. From circles to hyperpigmentation and acne flare-ups, this natural-finish foundation will make your skin look flawless, but it does look like you’re wearing makeup. If skin-like trickery isn’t a deal breaker for you, give this drugstore superstar a try.

3. Covergirl Matte Made Foundation

For a relatively more recent drop, Covergirl’s Matte Made Foundation has already amassed an impressive following among beauty gurus, YouTuber’s and everyday consumers as evidenced by the product’s archive of glowing reviews. This soft matte formula offers solid staying power (even in ultra, hot humid weather) and is transfer-proof, making it a great event foundation.

4. Catrice HD Liquid Cover Foundation

This HD foundation is one of the most beautiful foundations I’ve ever worn (drugstore and prestige). It gives your skin a filter-like finish that’s matte but still skin-like. You can achieve full coverage with just one base layer, and it lasts me a solid 12 hours. Honestly, this is foundation makes your skin looking the subtle filter on Instagram, but IRL.

5. Milani Conceal & Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer

As a solid dupe for Clinique’s Beyond Perfecting Foundation, this full coverage base seamlessly conceals, evens, and perfects with just one generous layer. It has a moisturizing feel, giving the skin a satiny finish that, unlike many full coverage products isn’t too matte or too dewy and actually lets your skin breathe as you wear it. Plus, who doesn’t love a multi-use product?

6. L.A. Girl Pro Coverage High Definition Foundation

For those who prefer a luminous, dewy complexion but need more coverage than glowy gold-standards like BB creams and tinted moisturizers have to offer, this is a great budget-friendly product that competes with high-end products touting the same benefits.
