Amazon’s Huge End-Of-Year Sale Includes PS4, Switch, And Xbox One Games

As with every holiday season, it’s been a busy few months for deals as stores and publishers compete to offer appealing prices on games, consoles, and accessories. But the hectic shopping season is finally coming to an end, which means retailers are now clearing out their leftover stock at low prices. So while it may be too late to pick up a gift for that special someone, there’s still time to snag something on your personal wishlist at a nice discount.

Amazon’s massive year-end sale has replaced its Christmas sale, and with it come thousands of deals across categories like electronics, movies and TV, headphones, and, of course, gaming. While many of the best deals were offered earlier this month, Amazon is still discounting quite a few games. As usual, some of the best prices are for PS4 and Xbox One games, but PC and Switch gamers still have some nice options as well. One of the standouts is Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for just $33.74 (full discount shown at checkout). You can also find Gears 5 for just $25, The Outer Worlds for $40, and NBA 2K20 for $30. Some first-party Switch games like Super Mario Maker 2 are $10 off, which is about the cheapest you’ll find them outside major sales like Black Friday and Prime Day.

Speaking of Black Friday: If you missed out on the popular PS4 Slim bundle that comes with God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition, and The Last of Us Remastered, you can still find it in stock at Amazon for a discount, although not quite as cheap as it was in November. The bundle is currently selling for $249, down from $300. The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition is also discounted to $172.90, down from its usual $250. And while Nintendo Switch deals are unsurprisingly nowhere to be seen at this point, you can snag a Switch Pro Controller for just $55, an excellent purchase if you got a new Switch for Christmas.

Check out some of the best post-Christmas gaming deals at Amazon below. You can also see more year-end deals across other categories at Amazon.

Want to get the best deals after Christmas? Then read on for our complete guide to After Christmas sales, from when they start to the product categories to watch.

When Do After Christmas Sales Start?

We saw After Christmas sales start around December 21 in 2018. For the past two years, Neiman Marcus has led the pack with free overnight shipping — which meant you could get your After Christmas delivery before Christmas. That said, in 2019 you can expect the bulk of the After Christmas sales to fall between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.

Expect the bulk of this year’s After Christmas sales to fall between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.

What to Buy During After Christmas Sales

Here are the categories to watch during the After Christmas sales in 2019.

Holiday Decor

Sales on holiday decor dominated our hottest After Christmas deals last year. While you won’t be able to make use of your purchases right away, shopping ahead for next year is the secret to spending affordably and still having the best-bedecked building on the block.

Though we tend to see a store or two offer aggressive holiday-decor deals just before Christmas — like Home Depot’s up-to-50% off sale last December 24 — these are really only good options for customers who suddenly realize their Christmas won’t be complete without an inflatable Snoopy in the front yard. If you aren’t planning on putting out your purchases immediately, wait a few more days.

SEE ALSO: The 8 Best Things to Buy in December (Including After Christmas Sales!)

Starting on December 26, we’ll likely see sales cutting up to 80% off all holiday decor, and continue to see these until just after the New Year… although pickings will get slimmer as the week wears on. Last year we saw excellent sales from Amazon, Macy’s, Lowe’s, Hallmark, and many others. So count on being able to stock up on whatever you need, be it trees, tinsel, or trinkets.

Clothing

In 2018, about a third of the post-holiday deals we saw were for clothing and accessories. Clearance items saw particularly hot sales. For example, last year we saw the best extra discount on clearance ever from J.Crew Factory, when they took an extra 60% to 70% off clearance items. We also saw aggressive After Christmas clearance sales from Cabela’s, Nordstrom Rack, Dick’s Sporting Goods, 6pm, and many others.

In 2018, about a third of the After Christmas deals we saw were for clothing and accessories.

It’s not all clearance items, however. Many stores target this period for their semi-annual sales, including Victoria’s Secret, Tory Burch, Armani Exchange, and Michael Kors.

Finally, check DealNews for great deals on individual items. Among our most popular finds last year were seven Hanes men’s boxer briefs for $9, Jos. A. Bank men’s polo shirts for $7, and Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars for $20, each with free shipping.

Video Games

If you don’t find the video game deals you want before Christmas, don’t worry too much! Last year, more than half of the video game deals we saw during After Christmas sales were Staff Pick-worthy, meaning they were among our “best of the best” offers. They included titles like Titanfall 2 for Xbox One for only $4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Nintendo Switch for $46.

SEE ALSO: When Is the Victoria’s Secret Semi-Annual Sale?

And it won’t be only individual titles on sale, either. PC gamers can shop the Steam Winter Sale, which started on December 19 and should continue through the new year. Last year, it ran from December 20 to January 3. The PlayStation Store has also launched a holiday sale, and that goes through January 5, 2020.

Electronics

Last year, After Christmas sales were a great place to shop for electronics. Not only did we see tons of electronics deals, more than 40% of them got our Staff Pick designation, marking them as truly excellent.

We saw excellent deals on a wide variety of electronics, from a Sceptre 65″ 4K UHD TV for $400 to an Insignia Wave 2 portable Bluetooth speaker for $10.

Watch for electronics deals from Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, B&H Photo Video, and eBay.

Some of the very best deals were on refurbs, like a deal on a refurbished Samsung Galaxy S8+ 64GB smartphone for $255 with free shipping. About 10% of the electronics deals during After Christmas sales last year were for refurbished products.

Stores to watch for electronics deals this year include Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, B&H Photo Video, and of course, eBay, particularly for refurbs.

Exercise Equipment

Unsurprisingly, we saw more exercise equipment deals in January than during any other month this past year. Stores know getting in shape is one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions, and prepare tempting deals accordingly. While few deals are Staff Picks, it’s still a heavy time for fitness deals: more than 10% of the fitness deals we posted in the past year fell in the 10 days following Christmas.

SEE ALSO: Here’s the Holiday Return Policy at 48 Big-Name Stores

Last year, Dick’s Sporting Goods cut up to 50% off exercise equipment and Amazon cut up to 40% off, while Walmart offered a number of excellent deals on individual items, including neoprene-coated dumbbells starting as low as $1 and an indoor bike for $210.

Outdoor and Home Deals Photograph: Amazon

For the next few weeks, there will be plenty of deals on fitness and health gear to assist in any resolutions you may have made. If you’re in the market for a fitness tracker, gym supplies, or other health and wellness gadgets, they’ll probably go on sale soon if they haven’t already.

  • LifeStraw Personal Water Filter for $10 ($2 off): This deal is not a rare one. However, if you’re traveling to a place where there may be limited access to safe drinking water, a LifeStraw is a smart investment. You can use it to drink out of puddles, rivers, and other bodies of water, and it filters out anything that may make water nonpotable. It’s a good idea to keep one in your hiking bag.

  • Fossil Sport Smartwatch for $104 ($96 off): This Fossil smartwatch doesn’t quite compete with the Apple Watch in terms of features, but WIRED digital director Brian Barrett called it the best WearOS smartwatch you could buy when he tested it last year. Use coupon code WINTER30 to save. If the savings don’t work, we recommend picking it up for $144 ($56 off) at Amazon—still a good deal.

  • Kidde Fire Extinguisher for $10 ($9 off): You need a fire extinguisher! At the very least, your lease may require it, and of course there’s the small matter of it potentially saving your life. At only $10 there’s no excuse not to buy this model if you don’t have one on hand. This extinguisher is rated for liquid, gas, and energized electrical fires. Choosing in-store pickup will help you avoid shipping fees.

  • Echo Show 5 Two-Pack for $90 ($90 off): This device takes Alexa and gives it a screen. The display is small, making this a better option for a nightstand as opposed to a kitchen counter. The discount is essentially a buy-one-get-one-free deal. Check out our guide to smart displays to learn what your options are. Use code SHOW52PK to save.

  • Lenovo Smart Clock for $40 ($40 off): This is the Google-powered nightstand clock. We gave this gadget a 7/10 in our review. It’s one of our favorite Google Assistant-powered smart displays, but its small screen is particularly suited to the bedroom. Unlike some similar smart displays, this one doesn’t have a camera. The discount matches what we saw for Black Friday, and we prefer Google’s voice assistant to Amazon’s.

  • REI “Year-End Clearance” Sale for up to 50 percent off: Lots of gear is up for grabs at up to half-off. You can save on jackets, boots, snow supplies, and accessories. This Hydro Flask tumbler, for example, is 40 percent off in two colors.

  • Backcountry “New Decade Deals” for up to 50 percent off: Backcountry’s new markdowns offer the same discount as REI’s, but item selection and availability varies by store. We like this Fjallraven Re-Wool Hat made of recycled wool. It is available in a couple of colors for $48, a $10 discount.

  • Moosejaw “Don’t Go Extinct” Sale: This sale is all about staying warm while it’s cold outside. If you don’t plan on hibernating this winter, you might want to check it out. This Outdoor Research Foray Jacket is lightweight yet warm. It’s made with Gore-Tex to keep you dry, while the side vents prevent you from steaming.

Software, Movie, and Videogame Deals Photograph: Lenovo

Every year on Dec. 26, a magical thing happens. Almost everything goes on sale.

For retailers, the holiday gold rush spans from Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve. (Although this unofficial start date has crept earlier in recent years.) Then, all of a sudden, the party’s over. It’s a pretty abrupt end to absolutely gangbusters fun, and shops around America would like to avoid a post-holiday hangover.

So starting the day after Christmas, they launch sales that can rival anything on Black Friday.

For you, it’s a chance to grab some great deals, spend some gift cards and maybe even make a few returns and exchanges. (Discreetly of course. Aunt Melba never needs to learn you didn’t love the Papal nunchuck action figures.)

So, wrap up some leftovers and set fire to the tree, we’re going after-Christmas shopping! Here are just a few of the best deals you’ll find:

Online Retailers After-Christmas Sales

Amazon’s (AMZN) – Get Report year-end deals apply to almost every section of the site. Since this sale is generally about post-holiday clearance and overstock, expect to find some of your best deals in electronics, toys, and groceries.

Steam

Steam, another online retailer, sells computer games. In fact, it virtually owns that market. Every year, Steam’s winter sale starts a few days before Christmas and runs until early January. The site marks down games across its catalog and, while the discounts vary, some can go as low as 75% off.

Groupon

Even Groupon (GRPN) – Get Report has gotten in on the action with after-Christmas coupons for retailers nationwide. If you don’t see what you’re looking for on our list, try one of their offers. You might be surprised by what you find!

Department Stores’ After-Christmas Sales

Whether you pronounce it “Tar-get,” (TGT) – Get Report “Tar-jay” or, like me, hope to make “Tar-jet” a thing, the big store with a bull’s eye on the front is a great place for after Christmas shopping. While the company hasn’t made an official announcement yet, coupons are already starting to go up.

Macy’s

Like Target, Macy’s (M) – Get Report is well known for its after-Christmas sales. Already in the run-up to the holiday, the retailer has announced deals anywhere from 20% to 60% and 80% off.

With a smaller footprint than Target or Macy’s, Kohl’s (KSS) – Get Report is stepping up a more aggressive game. Its clearance sale has already begun, will last until several days after the holiday and cuts prices up to 70% off.

Clothing After-Christmas Sales

Lululemon

Lululemon (LULU) – Get Report calls it “We Made Too Much.” That’s code for a clearance sale that’s already underway, with deals of sometimes more than 50%.

Old Navy

It’s a little tricky, we’ll admit, to sort out clothing retailers since half of them seem to be the same company. It’s like discovering your friend Richard is actually Steven who is actually Brad who was Nancy all along. Nevertheless, Old Navy has launched its after-Christmas sale with deals mostly clustered around 15%-25% off.

L.L. Bean

There are two things I know to be true about L.L. Bean: One, I do not need a pair of pants well suited to deep woodland survival. I infrequently have to battle Alaskan grizzly bears on my daily waddle to Starbucks (SBUX) – Get Report and my last bout ended on good terms. Two: I will shop there anyway and love every minute of it. Especially during an after-Christmas clearance.

Nordstrom’s (JWN) – Get Report half-yearly sale has begun. Through Jan. 2, you can get deals as high as 60% or more off at a retailer so elite that it still hires pianists to play in the lobby.

Electronics and Other Retail After-Christmas Sales

Who doesn’t love buying themselves a toy after Christmas? Electronics are one of the biggest holiday categories, so retailers like Best Buy (BBY) – Get Report feels it the most once the Christmas music stops. To keep shoppers in its bright-blue stores (and to liquidate unsold product), Best Buy offers terrific discounts. Some have already started, but the real deals will begin Dec. 26.

Williams Sonoma

The sale has begun at home-goods retailer Williams Sonoma (WSM) – Get Report, with clearance prices of up to 75% off. Don’t miss this chance to buy a cast-iron skillet that you must never actually clean. Watching it develop a crust of old food is how you’ll know you’ve become a great chef, and the knife-like twisting in your stomach after every meal is (we believe) called “seasoning.”

Four Tips for Shopping After Christmas

Honestly, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to after-Christmas sales. There are far too many for us to list here, and many retailers keep their cards close to the vest. They don’t want to distract from the fun of Christmas shopping.

Still, there are a few best practices you can bring to your retail therapy after the holidays this year. (And let’s be honest, who couldn’t use a dose of therapy after Christmas?)

1. Shop Big, Avoid Brands

Major brands like Apple (AAPL) – Get Report typically won’t feature much in the way of holiday sales. That’s not to say you can’t get any deals there, but they’re usually not your best bet. Department stores and big-box retailers are where you’ll find the best deals. For an Apple Store, its products will sell all year round. The company can take those extra iPhones and hang on to them through 2019. Best Buy, on the other hand? It needs to move that merch.

2. Look at Gift-Card Exchanges

You got a gift card to Applebee’s for Christmas. In a fit of inspired irony, your cousin even wrapped it, so the thing looked like a real present. This kind of passive-aggressive gifting should be enough to summon up a few dozen holiday ghosts, but somehow people get away with it every year. You’re not alone. Fortunately, there are gift card-exchange sites where you can swap that Applebee’s card for something useful. Poke around and see if you can find the money you want to spend because Plan B is spending Christmas money to get drunk on tequila shots with a team of unemployed elves at the strip mall.

No judgment here.

3. Wait on a Few Specific Things

There are always a few products that retailers overstock on, typically because such goods make for incredibly popular Christmas presents. TVs fall into that category. Somewhere out there are millions of people who see an entire television set and think, “I’ll bet it’s never occurred to my friend to get a TV. I’m going to go ahead and buy her one. After that, I’m going to make a sexy Instagram account for my dishwasher, Louise.”

Meanwhile, clothing retailers are inundated with returns between Christmas and New Year’s every year as people bring back gifts that they didn’t like, which didn’t fit or which came with a note saying “I could have sworn you were a small.”

In these cases and many more, the stores end up with a glut of merchandise that they simply have to move. Prices tumble, and you can cash in. For the most popular categories of Christmas gifts, it often pays to wait on your own shopping until after the holidays.

4. Shop Winter

You have three, maybe four, cold months ahead. Don’t forget that, even if retailers will.

Now’s the time when coats, sweaters, boots and other winter apparel will start going on sale as shops begin cycling toward spring fashions. So stock up on your winter wear. There’s still a lot of Smarch to come.

Retailers crank up their after-Christmas sales

Now that the holidays are behind us, retailers haven’t stopped offering bargains. In fact, there’s evidence they’re offering even better deals in some cases.

That’s good news if you got some gift cards in your stocking or plan to return some gifts for a refund. Sara Skirboll, a shopping and trends expert at RetailMeNot, says the time between Christmas and New Years Day is a great time to find after-holiday sales.

“Plus, it is a great time for shoppers to make any returns or exchanges for those unwanted gifts and use up those gift cards they have received throughout the season,” Skirboll said.

Just about every retailer has something on sale this week, with many of the sales extending through most of January. Bath & Body Works has slashed prices up to 75 percent on a number of products. The sale ends on January 20.

Coach has marked down select items up to 50 percent for a sale running until January 7. It’s also offering free shipping.

Express has slashed prices up to 70 percent on a large number of products, with some clearance items marked down 40 percent. The sale runs through January 9.

TVs and video games

Best Buy’s after-Christmas sale features smart and UHD TVs in a variety of sizes, with savings of up to $70. The sale also includes $150 off the X-Box One X 1TB Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order deluxe edition console bundle and up to $200 off select laptops.

The Gap is selling everything for 40 percent off in a sale that ends January 7. JCPenney is holding its big winter wrap-up sale, with discounts of up to 70 percent. The sale ends on January 27.

Yankee Candle has launched its semi-annual sale with online discounts of up to 75 percent. The sale ends on January 21. Michael Kors’ semi-annual sale is also underway, with savings of up to 70 percent. The promotion ends on January 28.

H&M has a 60 percent off winter sale underway through January 3. TOMS is knocking 25 percent off all markdowns in a sale that runs until January 8.

Kohl’s, Lands’ End, Madewell, Macy’s, Target, Walmart, and Amazon started marking down select items right after Christmas, but those deals expire soon.

Now that your holiday shopping for everyone else is over, it’s time to unwrap something for yourself—and what better place to treat yourself than the Sephora after-Christmas sale. Now’s your chance to snag the beauty buys you’ve been lusting after, but that Santa somehow missed the memo on this year.

The discounts at the beauty mecca—which include up to 50% off on coveted brands like Lancôme, Nars, and T3—are truly great this time of year. In the past, you needed a code to unlock the Sephora after-Christmas sale, but not this time around. And for all you Beauty Insiders, you can use the code “SAVEBIG” at check out to get an extra 20% off discounted products until January 1 (just make sure to log in to your account to take advantage of the sale on sale). We’ll cut right to the chase because the gift sets, hair tools, and skincare product deals definitely won’t stay in stock for long.
